Devolli's Italian Restaurant in Sherman
Description
Privilege
I gave a 3 only based on our waitress . The owner was very Ryde. Was our first visit and will be our last. Was waiting on a friend that was lost and the owner told us we needed to hurry lots of people waiting and pointed to his watch. If I wasnt so hungry I would have got up and left.
MoreI wish all Italian restaurants were this good. The bread sticks with the herb dip is great. We enjoyed the minestrone soup. And my wife and I fell in love with the pink sauce.
MoreI arrived at 828pm on a Saturday night. They informed me that they were closed. Hmm. Thought you closed at 9 and she said we close whenever we want... then say that on your site..not 9pm.....Went next door at Ivanhoes, was served food , from the restaurant. Definitely not great. No flavor at all. Will not be back. But I will definitely be back at Ivanhoes. Amazing wine and beer and live music!
MoreGreat food & atmosphere and the wine is awesome.
Fun and energetic place at night. The food was okay. Not really Italian but good enough, I guess. It was a fun place to go when family came to town.
MoreSuch a fun vibe, REALLY good food and nice wait staff at Devolis. They had live music on a Wednesday night and it was very nice. A lovely evening for a great price! The bread sticks and special butter are wonderful! The street is currently blocked for construction but they are open. Its a short walk to get inside.
MoreWe really enjoyed our first experience at Devollis Italian Restaurant last night. The food was great, loved the eggplant with pink sauce and eggplant Alfredo. The bread with garlic butter was awesome and the rear of our group enjoyed their food as well. Our grandson was spoiled by the owner and we had an all around great experience. Thank you to the staff and owner for a great birthday dinner.
MoreThe aroma of food greets you before you open the glass door! Live music added to the ambiance of the nostalgic building. Waitress was attentive and the food was filling! Will definitely return here!
MoreThe food is fine. I am sitting here with my family and I cannot have a decent conversation, because some guy is playing the sax 10 ft. away from me. We are having to almost shout and repeat ourselves.
MoreWe love the wine and the food and the service. Sometimes I wish the music wasnt as loud so we could visit more.
MoreGreat family atmosphere! The food was outstanding with the Saxophone musician made for a great night with my wife and I. Thank you
MoreHad not been to eat here in a while. It was very comfortable with excellent food and service, reasonable prices and delicious bread sticks. Highly recommend. And of course if you want, wine 🍷
MoreWhat a GEM of a place right here in Denison! Literally amazing atmosphere with great live music & even better food/drinks! I have never had a bad experience here & ive been coming for YEARS! Thanks devolis & staff for providing us with a great experience every single time!
MoreThe pizza next door is yummy. Great prices. Super cheesy. Nice atmosphere with open door.
MoreThe lobster ravioli was amazing. The cheese ravioli with meat sauce and meatballs was amazing. My daughter loved the spaghetti. Tiramisu was TO DIE FOR 🤤🤤🤤 we came on jazz night and they had live music with a saxophone and piano. Very nice evening out here.
MoreMy husband and I have been attempting to try this place out because we love Italian food, however every time we go by there they are closed even though their internet website says they are open.
MoreFood was very delicious! The portions looked small but they were filling. They had live music the night we were there and it was enjoyable.
MoreDont let the haters ruin it for you! Food is plentiful and tasty! The wine is outstanding!! The service was very friendly and offered samples of the wine so you can get the best one for you. The bread and garlic butter is plentiful and very garlicky. I would show you pictures but it just had to be eaten. I had the spaghetti and meat balls my daughter had the Fetticni Alfredo with chicken. We are all fat and sassy right now.
MoreThe dining area is cute, but the entryway bar area really needs a decor update.Older crowd.Salad looked like it came from a bag, but was still good. The eggplant parmesan was awesome. Chicken parm was ok. Veggies came from frozen, but werent bad. The herbed butter that comes with the bread is very good.Great service and really enjoyed the live music and wine tasting. They also just opened a brewery next door.
MoreOrder the chicken marsala $15. Chicken was a big frozen chicken nugget. Not flavour at all. Need more beer options. It was also warm the AC needs to be more adequate.
MoreThe homemade bread, lobster ravioli, and live music are all excellent. This place is a go-to choice when we want a tasty pasta dish.
MoreFrank Devolli literally ran us out of the restaurant loudly declaring that we should "get out" and we were "not his customers" while also saying that he would "fire the waitress". Sound dramatic? It was, and we definitely wont be back. After quite a wait for the food to arrive, we were served the wrong food. We werent that worried about it. The place was busy, and we werent in a hurry. Once our food was served, we waited a bit before digging in hoping to catch the waitress, but ultimately we decided to just eat it. The waitress came when we were midway through our food and confirmed that we received the wrong food. We all laughed about it. When our bill came we were charged for the more expensive dishes we ordered and not the food we received. After 21 years in the US Army my husband is essentially unflappable. So he calmly asked to speak to the manager after asking the waitress about the bill yielded this reply, "Well, I asked him about it, and he told me to charge you for what you ordered." Frank came by and my husband asked if he would change his mind and give us a corrected bill, reflective of the food we received. Frank snatched the ticket out of my husbands hand saying, "You dont pay anything then," and "shes getting fired right now." It was 0 to 60 in nothing flat. Then he started in on, "get out!"; "youre not my customers!" We hastily gathered the cash we had and forced it on the stunned waitress with our apologies. We walked out feeling stunned, embarrassed, guilty, confused and convinced wed never be back. After working in restaurants myself for more than 10 years, I have a lot of sympathy for how stressful and demanding it can be. I also have a lot of expectations for treating people respectfully.Frank Devolli, you missed the mark on treating your employee, a U.S. Army veteran, and me with the common decency any living being deserves.
MoreKool location. Nice spot
We had my mother-in-laws 50th birthday party here today.... it was FANTASTIC. There was about 50 people there and we all fit comfortably. The buffet for our event was so good! The tortellini was amazing! We got to decorate the back room and everyone was so accommodating. I HIGHLY recommend Devollis for any catering or event that you have. Super friendly staff too!
MoreThis place is such a gem. We couldn’t believe there wasn’t a line out the door on a Saturday night. The food is amazing and the prices are great. Service was wonderful. To top it off the night of our visit they had a talented saxophonist playing. Go, you won’t be disappointed.
MoreMy boys and I were planning a birthday dinner for me last Saturday, July 24th, and arrived at the restaurant shortly before 8 pm. They were scheduled to close at 9 pm. The first lady approached us and asked how many and we told her 3, then another woman charged to the front and said the kitchen is closed. I stated that the website showed they close at 9, and she said well we have been busy and we are out of food, Im sorry, were closed. I had been to this restaurant one time previously and the food was great, the service was great, no complaints, but a restaurant of that stature should not be telling anyone they are out of food at 8pm on a Saturday night. I wont be going back.
MoreAbsolutely amazing spot for a date night!!! The food was so delicious and the atmosphere invites you to stay longer and order more, which we did. There was a sax player on the Thursday we went and it was just so divine!!! So delicious!!! New favorite spot for sure!!!
MoreStarting from the moment you walk in the door you just know this is NOT a cozy Italian gem you were hoping for. Not a dime has been spent on making the restaurant inviting or a place you’d like to have a dimly lit bottle of wine and a plate of homemade gnocchi. It doesn’t exist here. It’s a whitewashed, fluorescent light, ceiling fan, picnic table and styrofoam cup type of restaurant. Which is such a shame, considering they have a perfect Main Street location. They had very loud music playing in both areas of the restaurant and their wine list was almost non existent. I asked for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the waitress said she had never heard of it. I asked my waitress several times for my glass of wine and all she would say was someone else is getting it. We were helped by the man busing tables more that our waitress ever helped us. She was a young, pretty girl but we never saw her smile one time and she never apologized for anything being delayed or cold. We ordered Caesar salads which were fine but the baked ziti I got was plain Jane and the simple soup my friend got was cold when she received it. We were served our food before I ever got my glass of wine so we decided it was just time to leave. I hope they get an investor, shut down to remodel and retrain and reopen with a smaller, better menu, a full wine list and no live music blaring in the dining room.
MoreOne of the most wonderful restaurants Ive even visited! The food was good, but the ambiance was fantastic! My buddy & I had the best waitress, the beer was excellent and the Texas wine surprisingly tasty! And did I mention the man playing the sax? Devollis was a gem of a restaurant and the owner visited several times to make sure all was well. This is the kind of restaurant that locals enjoy and visitors like us marvel! Make you way to Devollis and enjoy small town Texas!
MoreIf you are visiting from out of town and want a pleasant dining experience. DO NOT GO HERE. I am unsure if she was the bartender or manager but she was very disrespectful to our group. We made reservations weeks in advance to make sure they could accommodate us. She was an elderly woman who does not respect criticism or feedback. We waited 40 minutes for our bottles of wine for the table and were asked for our IDs after waiting 30 minutes for the wine. When I voiced how long we had already been waiting and upset the wine still wasn’t coming she advised “well I don’t have to serve you” we were here for a celebration and she did not make our experience special. We are all over 30 and as I understand needing to see ID this should have been done when we ordered the wine. Our server had to keep apologizing for her terrible attitude. The food was okay but the experience was terrible. We come often to the lake and will never return to this restaurant.
MoreStopped for lunch and it was fantastic. Everyone very friendly, food is so tasty. We really enjoyed the shrimp Alfredo.
MoreThis was our first visit. Hate to say but one of the worst Italian Places we’ve ever eaten. It was clean, inviting and waitress was friendly and we got great service. The bread/garlic butter was good but entrees were awful. Won’t be back.
MoreAmazing dining experience in beautiful downtown Dennison TX.Service exceptional, and the fun of live saxophone while you enjoy in house craft beer, and wine from the local vineyards of Homested TX. At Ivanhoe. The Italian food is exceptional, but tonight decided on the rib-eye and filet mignon,
MoreFirst impressions aren’t great... we walked in on the Saturday of graduation weekend at 8pm with a reservation. Stood at the front for almost 5 minutes, no one greeted us, I looked around and met eyes with a girl doing silverware and she said someone was checking to see if there was food left due to a busy day. A lady came and didn’t speak to us but asked another lady where we were going to sit. I asked if they needed our reservation name and was ignored. We were seated, got our drink orders and were given bread. We sat for close to 15 minutes before anyone came to ask for our order. By the time the food came, there were two other couples, no more crowd. Took another 30 minutes for our food to come out, by I now we have been here an hour. I’m watching staff clean and sweep, they close at 9. A lady lifts her broom off the floor, holds it over the table while she moves chairs, gross!! My chicken Alfredo was pretty good, husband said his ziti was mediocre. I was brought a tin and lid for leftovers, lid was covered in fingerprints. With COVID-19 right now, I wish they’d take more precautions. The bus person wore a mask and he’s the only one I saw. We won’t be back here. I did enjoy the sax music and the bread was excellent. i get being busy, I’m a patient person, we still left a good tip. Just expected more.
MoreThe eggplant Florentine is the best Ive ever had. The management and staff are so nice and accommodating. The live music is a nice touch to an already vintage and nostalgic atmosphere. When people talk about wanting to visit a "hole in the wall" type place, this is it.
MoreNice place to eat, just wished I had a little more chicken to go with my amazing pasta and sauce. Took my father in-law who is Italian and he loved it. Prices were fair. Had a saxophone player that my mother in-law loved especially when he played a requested song. Overall was a good experience, will definitely return to try other dishes.
MoreGreat authentic Italian food. Say hello to Frank while your there. Romantic atmosphere on the weekend with live music. Have a wine tasting experience with friends. Also nice lunch specials. Price extremely reasonable.
MoreOne of the best local Italian restaurants in town. Heads up - this restaurant is associated with a local winery. They will actually sell you an entire bottle of wine for ~twelve dolars to have with you meal. This means you can have a nice date with live music, good Italian pasta, and get out for less than thirty bucks. Huge value!
MoreVery friendly staff and people all around! Loved the atmosphere! There happened to be live music there the night my boyfriend and I went, and that was a fun bonus. Proportions were more than enough and we all know leftovers are what college students live off of.
MoreWe love Devollis and the owner Frank. They make the best pizza in town and offer so many toppings. They have great customer service and you never have to wait for a refill. Kid friendly place.
MoreThis is the place to go for authentic, homemade Italian food in the Denison/Sherman area. The owner is super-friendly and purely interested in the customers experience. The lunch special is very reasonable with a main dish, side salad and bread. Including drink, its under $7. The only thing Im not happy with is the pizza. Its been soggy every time Ive ordered it. However, the easy fix is just to eat something else... especially the cheese ravioli. Skip the mainstream Italian (*cough* Olive Garden *cough*and make time for a trip to Downtown Denison.
MoreGreat service, great food. The atmosphere is nice with the music in the background. Food is always fresh. Plenty of free parking. Diverse menu with steaks and Italian food. Quantities are just right and prices cant be beat. A must do place for dinner.
MoreExcellent meal and great live entertainment. Glad we went on Thursday night to take full advantage of all available amenities. Homestead winery serves the wine if you want it. The chefs special or featured menu item -- such as the prime rib -- is always delicious. Hot bread with garlic butter is brought to the table shortly after you sit down. Definitely a destination dining experience worth the drive!
MoreHome style Italian food. Also has a winery attached, so you can pair a local glass or bottle with your meal.
MoreA unique local treat. Charming decor in main dining room. Live brass band/jazz music most nights. You can sample and order wines from local winery. Food was good. Alfredo sauce was great. Definitely worth exploring!
MoreI was traveling alone, so I ordered the lobster ravioli for pick up. The brief service I received was great, but the food was just amazing. The garlic bread and the sauce it came with are some of the best Ive ever had! I just wish this wasnt so far away for me as I would absolutely return!
MoreThis restaurant has it all! Comfortable environment, friendly staff, great live music, local wine and some of the best Italian food I have ever had. The Alfredo sauce is perfect and the Tiramisu is heavenly.
MoreLove this place! Great pasta, steaks and love the saxaphone music! Great prices too. Our friends introduced us and we have been coming here since. They brought us last night for our anniversary, great evening!
MoreFamily restaurant, tasty food, happy service, and Frank is always concerned his patrons know they are welcome and valued. The fact that Homestead Winery has a tasting room in the building assures you will get a great match of food and wine. By the way, they also have their microbrewery right next door.
MoreMy wife and I had eaten here years ago and kept wanting to get back. It is a long drive for us as we live on the other side of Ft worth. BUT, the drive is worth it. The food is delicious (this is the first time I have ever tipped the cook), the wine delightful and the service was friendly and fast. And on the weekends, there is live music. We will be making the trip again soon.
