Offbeat museum featuring a collection of 3,000+ devil sculptures & carvings from around the globe.
Closed, Google maps info not updated...
had more items to display but less or no information about it.
Careful though, you might get possessed!
Nice collection of various depictions of devils with interesting descriptions.
For some reason I was expecting there to be more history on the different interpretations of the devil through time and in different countries. Really all it was is someones private (and not very diversecollection of figurines and statues, etc. I am glad I went but also was very relieved its only 5€ after seeing the exhibition. You also get to see the art gallery that is in the same building which was alright
Definity not bad collection of Devils figures, mini-sculptures, mask, etc. The number – over 3000 – is impressing. But the presentation quite dull. Most of exponats deserve better lighting, beter background colours, better ventilation in premises. Also, those glass display cases making photografies mor difficult and less interesting (because of reflections). The best room of museum is on the last floor, where international deamons are collected. In summary, the Soviet spirit of the building made more fear then collection itself
It is a very interesting and unique museum, but is expensive for what they offer.
One of the most unusual museums I have visited. Totally worth visiting. Devils of all kinds from cute to gruesome.
Allegedly the only devil museum in the world. Huge collection of over 3000 devil artefacts from all over the world. Great way to learn beliefs and folklore of our ancestors. Definitely worth visiting.
Cool place. Worth to see as the ticket is cheap. Wont blow you away but its interesting.
A unique and very interesting museum, there is an application (in English and Lithuanianthat narrates your tour. Large collection of art from several countries, the entrace fee is low; friendly staff. 100% recommended.
A bit pricey but come for the devils and see other exhibitions on hand. Very children friendly so no x-rated devils and witches too, but some very unfortunate generalisations about cultures and even continents like Africa.
Very interesting! It gives a general overview of different traditions and beliefs. I found it very interesting and informative.
This place has a lot of cool wooden figures with of devils, but cool ones.I highly recommend visiting
Three floors of the weird and wacky world of the occult. Worth a visit here, but not if you have younger kids with you as it’s a bit creepy and scary here.
Simply stunning and uniqueThere are three floors of unique stories, combines with a collection of devil effigies, this is one of the few museums that I dare say is in a class of its ownThe first floor represents the artist and the collection he gathered over time, along side a separate section of the museum that is dedicated to his work and goes into further detail about himThe second floor was about the people of Lithuania donating their crafts to the museum with a sprinkling of stories around witches, humans and animal interactions with the devilThe third floor contains lore about the devil from different countries and the differences between one countries depiction of the devil and another
It was fine. If you realy are into the devil or art, its a good place. But it has AC.
Really unique museum thats definitely worth a visit and just €5 for adults (student and child rates available).
Lovely collection devilish art from all overbthe world!. Attached to this museum is a lovely art museum and restored historical apartments
You should visit Devils museum if youre in Kaunas. One of the most popular points of interest. The museum is located close to Nacionalinis Mikalojaus Konstantino Čiurlionio dailės muziejus and Vytauto Didžiojo karo muziejus, not far from Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas. It is a good place for enjoying teenagers and could be a bit boring for adults. You need one hour and more to explore the exhibitions because there are many interesting and even mysterious sculptures of the devil, installations and paintings. You can use an audio guide and listen to amazing stories. Nice collection of devils figures from all the world)I was surprised that theres a small art gallery without any devils images. It can be helpful for someone who doesnt interested in other exhibitions.
Had a great time here
Very interesting thematic museum! I was here in 1989. Its good to come back and refresh my impressions from the Lithuania.
If you are going to Kaunas, you have to visit this place 😈
Just phenomenal, wonderfully quirky with the added bonus of seeing the collector/artists residence as it would have been.
When I heard an ambitious name such as the Devils Museum, I expected to see historical objects belonging to the concept of the devil in various cultures. Later, when I learned that the contents of the museum were the collection of an artist, I thought that I would see an artistic exhibition. However, this museum has managed to fail in both areas in my eyes. Yes, you can find depictions of demons from various cultures in this museum. However, I must clearly state that these objects are not historical artifacts, and the quality of artistic work is controversial. I was disappointed to learn that even the oldest of the works in the museum belong to the 20th century and that many of them were gifts to the owner of the collection by his friends. The only part I enjoyed visiting was the workshop of the collector who is a painter.
Quirky museum. Fun and inexpensive place to visit while in Kaunas.
Great place to look at the devil as a human projection of fears and folk descriptions of the unknown
Interesting place, though not exactly what I was expecting. It’s more of an exhibition of the collector and their personal collection than one focused on devil lore, but still interesting and worth a trip. The museum also includes exhibits of the collector’s work space, home, paintings, and personal history. Seemed to be a very intelligent and quirky fellow.
Took a field trip here with a group of friends. We were satisfied with the experience overall. Its something different to see.The admissions were about five Euros. The museum is broken up into three floors, with an adjacent art gallery. I was expecting historical demonic pieces from ancient civilizations or medieval Europe. The exhibits are mainly creations from different artists, with each piece being significant to its place of origin (different countries have different views on what the devil looks like). The exhibits arent purely all demonic looking, you get plenty of ghouls and witches and stuff like that. But, it wasnt disappointing or anything, we still enjoyed it! The third/top floor is where you get more pieces from different countries.I didnt feel creeped out at all, I usually find stuff like this kind of cool. Its something different to experience if youre in Kaunas. The tickets arent expensive, so if you have time to kill, I recommend checking this place out!I bought a little souvenir from the gift shop. I keep it in my china with the rest of my collectibles (see last picture).
three floors and also an exhibition of paintings is present 5 € adult ticket 🎟then be sure to visit the museum of devils! This is a unique place! Devils from all over the world are gathered there! It is very interesting! The kids will love it! Adults will not remain indifferent either!
Looks odd from the outside, but has an interesting show of devil sculptures, masks and drawings. Nice staff👍
The Devils museum is not large. It is however a very interesting experience. Three floors of different depictions of the devil from throughout history. Thats right up my alley. Its also a good place to take your kids since it is a very short exhibition. While I did get tired, that was because of a hangover and I doubt its an experience your kids are going to get cranky about. I only wish they had more on my home country Denmark. All in all, it was worth the money and the time. Would recommend.
Nice collection of all kinds of devil statuettes and masks but I was hoping for something more, something extra.
Very unique museum, quirky and fun, not at all scary! You can see the devil portrayed in a myriad of shapes, mediums and artifacts. Well displayed and explained, with effective lighting its worth a visit.
Unique Museum. A little far out of the way if you are just coming to see this museum, however worth stopping by if you are in town.
Its not the most informative museum Ive been to, also curation is a bit lacking as only a few of the exhibits are explained. However, these little devils have the ability to fascinate, I had to refrain myself from taking too many pictures, I wanted to shoot them all. Its 5 Euro to visit but given how fun it is, the price albeit a bit steep for just three rooms seems fair. Theres also a paintings exhibition of the man who started the collection
Very cool museum with a lot of devils. Interesting story of how they were all acquired as well.A lot of fun stories on the devil around the world.@wanderlustmoonduo
Very interesting place with lot information about devil visualization and believes in Lithuania and other countries. The museum is connected to the house of the man who started the collection and also was a painter. His paintings and some perios exhibits are shown in this house. Strongly recommended for every guest in Kaunas.
This is a must visit museum if youre ever in Kaunas. It is a strong remainder of the roots of Lithuanian people and their beliefs. I personally feel that the Christian missionaries termed these beliefs as Paganism just to spread their message deeply. Some of the beliefs actually make sense.Anyways, the statues/masks are great and a lot of information is given in English for easier understanding. Enjoy 3 floors worth of entertaining devil information !!
Absolutely a must see if youre in any way interested in folklore and especially, obviously, in the concept of evil and the devil in folklore. Three stories of statues and masks, some from all around the world. Recommended!
I feel bad giving the museum 3 stars, but the museum was only ok for me. The cost was cheap, but the museum is small, and the description of items is very confusing. If they would update the description for the pieces it would go a very long way. They did have free wifi.
For me, this was the coolest museum from whole Kaunas. The museum collected the archetypes of the devil from all around the world. You can find interesting stories and interpretation of devil from different cultures. Youll get to understand better the perception of evil. And its funny cause all cultures have similarities and kind of dark humor
Not your ordinary museum! Housing an incredible collection of devils from across the globe, grotesque to comical. Its fascinating, well worth a visit.
Massive collection of devils and other similar stuff. There is also possible to look at the home of a collector who was a famous painter; his paints are also present.
Something different. There are quite a lot of devil statues and artifacts, but theres little information about them in English or Lithuanian. Theres some basic info about the devil in general and the role it played in history and folklore, but theres no information about the items themselves which is a shame. Stop by if you have nothing to do. I couldnt get out of my way to visit this place.
Its not as scary as it sounds. There are many differnt sculptures and forms of art you can see. Taking photos is allowed.
One of the most interesting & cool museums Ive visited. Multiple floors of interesting items of all kind. The information provided is interesting & entertaining. Must visit, youll spend more time than expected.
Could have been good, but the collection was housed in a dusty smelly old building without windows, being summer it was awfully stuffy and warm. The collection didnt really spark our interest. The information was helpful but I missed dates and places so it all was quite meaningless. I do think it could be improved, since the 3000+ devils could have been impressive!
A very interesting collection of the artist, and the artists house itself, as well as an exhibition of his own work. The devils are funny with interesting facts. English captions and friendly staff. A small souvenir shop where you can also turn a 5 euro cent into a museum coin.
Unique devils museum. Audio set tour, guides, 3 floors of devil masks, statues, scultpures, etc. Worth knowledge, uncludes other countries works as well. Over 200 pieces. Some guest exhibitions on hallways. Dont miss the flat where the owner lived.
