Description
Privilege
This place is beautiful! The staff is so wonderful and friendly and helpful. You can buy tickets once you get there but if you buy them in advance, it goes faster. Elevators and stairs, bathrooms on every floor. 3 floors total. Price of tickets arent bad either. Went to the Van Gogh exhibit, but will definitely be back to see the rest.
MoreI went to see the ofrendas and Diego Riveras mural. It was my first time visiting. Very impressive! The people who work there were very pleasant and helpful.
MoreLove this place went for a school feild trip and had a personal tour guide with many facts also is three stories and has very old relics
MoreThis wonderful place blew both of my socks off! The exhibits are the best and their selection of art is amazing! My mind was blown wide open several times with the African American section and the Great Hall Mural will change your life!
MoreGood collection. Liked the native American section. Some very old artefacts from Egypt, Asia and ancient middle-east. Cafe was out of vegetarian option by 2 pm. Other than green salad.
MoreTook all four of my children there for my daughters birthday and we loved it. I plan to go back. My daughter also went to one of the art workshops they have on Saturday. She said it was fun and she loved the teacher.
MoreA beautiful building filled with wonderfully built exhibits. Lots of focus on early African art, which is a great break of pace from other prominent art museums.Free for Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland county residents, and free is a great price for an afternoon of entertainment.
MoreWe had an incredible experience! If you are an art fan you should definitely check out this museum. So many artworks from ancient times to contemporary. We went there on Friday and it was FREE, but you need to register online. I highly recommend it!
MoreBeautiful Museum. The staff was pleasant and helpful. It is free admission for Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. You can not enter the museum from Woodward but you can exit here. You can easily spend a whole day here. My family and even the toddler enjoyed the visit. There are two places to eat at the DIA which are Cafe DIA and Kresge court. Cafe DIA is what you’ll likely pass the first regardless of the entrance you took. They have a lot of options but no ambiance. The Kresge court has fewer options but it’s a vibe. Beautiful seating, great lighting, and sometimes live music. At least walk past it… both locations are pretty close to one another.
MoreThis place is incredible. It took me about 4 hours to visit the entire museum, including a 30 min lunch break inside the museum. Its cafeteria is absolutely delicious. This is a #1 must visit if you are just passing by. The exhibitions are fantastic and very educational. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the building, the staff or the exhibits. I hope to return soon with all my family.
MoreSome places were closed but on Sunday its free for Oakland and Macomb County residents. And parking is free.
MoreWorth the 6 hour trip!! Such a great variety of art forms & exhibits. Wish we could of stayed the day to see everything! Three hours was not enough time! Next time we are in Detroit we will be visiting DIA again!!
MoreIt was our first time visiting, and we loved it. Theres a little bit of every kind of art and some pieces from well known artists in history like VanGogh, Picasso, and Monet. There are also special exhibits dedicated to art with various racial, ethnic, and cultural emphasis giving the viewer things to ponder and gain a greater appreciation of our diverse world.
MoreDIA is an interesting walk through time and culture. It is free for Wayne Oakland and Macomb residents. You do have to pay for parking. They have apps to do self guided tours and some areas are still paranoid on covid. The cafe is decent but a little overpriced. Art is a wonderful site
MoreThis place is big and thoroughly enjoyed the art here. The Kriesge Cafe is a must after seeing all the amazing art pieces.
MoreSo amazing. Ive been going there for over 50 years! We got a membership. The have an event coming up in October. The largest exhibit of Van Goah works ever put together in the world. We got a membership. It includes 4 adult tickets and any children under 18. It also includes special events. There will be members only showings of the up coming Van Gogh exhibit.
MoreNice building, friendly staff. Expensive parking $7usd a bit far from main entrance. Beautiful exhibits and famous mural by Diego Rivera.Entrance $14usd.Cafe inside that closed it at 2:30pm and another one until $4:30pm. Clean washroom. Nice place for a hot day.
MoreAlways a great museum! Most the time I go there theres something new to see. If there isnt that just means I missed it. Clean, nice, fascinating and basically free! I love this place! I took a picture of this ceramic because it looks a lot like my dog.
MoreThis was my first time here and I was just amazed.I plan on going back because it was such a big place and I missed some areas. I was truly in Aww 🥰
MoreThe Atmosphere is just pure serenity. I love this art museum, the people, the culture, the Art. Beautiful. Poetic. Sublime. Spend all day here and youll still need to come back to experience it all.
MoreHad the best time with friends! There’s a student discount. Great narrator explaining in each room & it is the best museum in the States!
MoreWas a awesome place. So much history, and beautiful pieces there. My son and I loved the whole experience, he even asked to go back. Staff is so friendly and helpful. So worth it.
MoreDefinitely worth a visit more than once! Loved the Architectural beauty of the building itself. The artwork is wonderfully displayed. Felt like I was walking back in time or walking into the future! The staff were friendly and ever so helpful. I suggest you get an annual pass as you cannot see everything in one day🤩
MoreThe museum is so beautiful, there are many precious exhibits from all of the world like China, Iraq, German. The design of Detroits historical cars is great to know the history of Detroit.
MoreThere is just so much to see. I could spend days just staring at the artwork. Mind you I am partial to art. We went and they had a car exhibit and they were so unique. Also seeing a real life van Gogh painting was really cool. Id definitely go again. They also had art from Mexico, middle east, native Americans, Japan and Korea. I love international art so it was fun to look at everything. Also seeing a real life mummy was really cool but creepy to think theres a skeleton in there.
MoreThe Detroit Institute of Arts was an absolutely amazing experience! The exhibits, architecture, and artwork are top notch and this is one of my favorite museums I have ever visited! We spent all day here and I feel like we still didnt even scratch the surface. If I could change anything I would have planned to come right at opening so we could experience this for the entirety of opening! You will be amazed at the beauty of this museum, I highly recommend it!
MoreI enjoy a lot anytime I go.I recommend to enter at first to them web page and register your visit before go, if you live in Michigan the access is free usually.
MoreAmazing! All types of art from around the world. Paintings and sculptures as well as decor/furnishings.
MoreBeing a celebrity tattoo artist it was wonderful seeing the skill level of so many artists from so many parts of the world
MoreSpent the day with my friend here we had a great time .. definitely need to have several hours here to be able to really look at everything ! Cant wait to go back
MoreWonderful experience with the exhibit By Her Hand: Artemisia Gentileschi and Women Artists in Italy, 1500–1800. Incredible paintings by some incredible women artists
MoreIt was a perfect art experience. Most security and tour guides were helpful and friendly. Museum and restrooms were extremely clean and everything is pretty much touchless. Masks are optional right now but everyone was following the 6ft rule.
MoreGreat experience! Parking does cost $7.00Bring your waking shoes, its a huge area. More like a 2 day excursion! Buy your tickets online WAY EASIER!
MoreThe DIA was a great rainy day trip, parts of the museum were closed for a special event but they gave free admission to a special showing of women artists that would cost 10 bucks normally. All in all it was a great day out.
MoreThis place was absolutely incredible!!! If youre a history or art fan this is a must see. I spent 4 hours here and barely made it through 1/3 of the exhibits. I plan on returning for a couple days soon
MoreWe went for spring break and got there late. Ive always been fascinated with marble statues and I definitely got warned to not get so close. I just couldnt help but stare at the details. We definitely did not get enough time and missed so much. We will be returning back for another look. I cant wait!
MoreGreat experience! I love the amazing oil paintings! We talked with Irene and she was very knowledgeable. She told us all about the Diego Revera paintings. We had a drink in the cafe and enjoyed the ambiance.
MoreGlorious place! The galleries and exhibits are breathtaking! Stop in & see the Van Gogh paintings & the Rivera court! A real VanGogh is a way better experience than any light show could ever provide! The automotive exhibit is a great representation of the finest of Autos. Jons fave was the Syd Mead illustration, because Syd was one of Jons instructors at CCS. The "By Her Hand" exhibit was very compelling to learn the life of these women was eye opening.
MoreBeautiful artwork! so much history and even current art. Lots of great rotating exhibits and even films. Spend a few hours or the whole day and youll need multiple trips to see everything. Been going here since I was a kid so I have favorites but always new additions and curations. Dining it good too.
MoreIt was the first time I went to this place. And its awesome. Its huge with a lot of art to see. I didnt have time to finalize visiting all the art Galleries but Im planning to go back
MoreI highly recommend the DIA for your wedding or event. I just recently worked with Luis who is in charge of their events at a recent wedding. It was an immaculate day. He was so attentive, on it, and knew exactly how to serve our client well. He was very communicative with vendors prior explaining things like the building lay out and parking for the event to ensure it would go seamlessly. I cannot say enough great things.
MoreLarge museum with lots to see. The exhibits don’t flow very well, so take a map to be able to follow your path if you want to make sure you see everything. Very cool cafe inside, museum architecture itself is interesting. Weekend day was not too crowded in the afternoon which was nice. $14 for adult, $8 if you’re a student, reasonable prices.
MoreReally cool exhibits but they closed earlier then we thought so we didnt get to see everything. Also, they have sensors if you got to close to the art in an area but didnt have signage saying dont get to close.
MoreIts been 7 years since I last visited. Lost of nice art, and directions arr easy to follow from the number if signs they have. A bit confused from their advertising when the Van Gogh Exhibits are supposed to be setup.
MoreI love our art museum... My family has had a membership there for as long as i can remember... This was our first time going since the pandemic started and it was alright, in a good way... Much more than i expected because of the pandemic rules. It was refreshing to be in the labrynths of history and discovery once again and the beautiful, openness of Kresge ct. is always awe inspiring. I will always enjoy going to the DIA, and am looking forward to Friday Night Live coming up December 3rd. See you there.!
MoreI love everytime we visit!!The rotating expos are always exciting, like star wars, automotive design, ofrendas.Diego Riveras mural is my favorite part of the museum.
MoreFirst time back at the DIA since I was in elementary school and already making a plan to go back. The art is amazing the food court is open and to my surprise they even serve alcohol. Went with my fiancee as a nice birthday experience and she couldnt of been happier.
MoreWhat great night out in Detroit to see the lights. It was a perfect beginning to the weekend. There is just so much to be seen and remembered from when I was a little girl growing up here and now a mommy bringing her daughter here to see all the wonderful things that I was exposed to and to open her creative mind. Thank you for a spectacular night at th DIA!!!
MoreSuch an amazing place. So much rich history. Some of the best pieces of art in the country. The staff is great and will be happy to give you the history on a specific piece of art.
