Coffee and snacks in cafe with exposed brick walls hung with contemporary art & stripped floors.
Great place to be. Lot of working ppl in the early hours. Lunch/coffee rush at noon. Very dedicated and nice personnel. Would come back. You can book meeting rooms!
Purposed as a coffee on-the-go pitstop designed to accommodate footfall, the cramped interior not conducive to lingering nor loitering. The coffee credible and unlikely to disappoint even the finicky while the “bites” on offer here just as unlikely to summon a gush of enthusiasm.Competently above adequate, fits the bill if you’re in a hurry.
I imagine that you would benefit from being a regular here, but its a bit typically impersonal for a random person like me. The closed in back room is almost impossible to have a conversation in when theres more than 5 or 6 people. Its just so loud.Coffee was nice. Didnt eat but the pastries looked OK.
Went to the Farringdon branch next to the station. Lovely friendly staff and accommodated coffee to my needs. Nice selection of sweet treats. Good to pick up and go before a train journey. Costa is nearby but long queues and the coffee tastes really good here. Unique coffee shop
Waited 15min; complained to a “visually empowered” lady at the front; she basically told me to shut up and do not speak to her in “that” tone again it’s not acceptable, and handing me over a card for a free coffee card.I am shocked! I probably won’t ever go there again - it’s great coffee there, probably one of the best in town - luckily there are other department of coffee shop out there- but after all coffee is not just a pure cup of liquid drink. Think about your service as well.
Friendly service and plenty of spaces to sit. I didnt have the coffee, as I was already caffeinated enough for the day, but I stayed in and had a vegan ploughmans sandwich and a duffin (a donut/muffin hybrid). The sandwich was pretty good, but the duffin was pretty disappointing as it turned out to only be a teeny splodge of jam on the top, with nothing in the middle. Sounds silly to mention it, but I was envisioning loads of lovely jam in the centre, so maybe I need to manage my own expectations!
Checked this place out today after having it on my list for sometime.Good range of food, with all dietary requirements (both savoury and sweet vegan options!and a wide range of coffee options as well.Had an oat milk latte - was pretty good, their home blend of coffee beans is nice and smooth with a mellow after taste. They have a good reward system - if a bit gimmicky with needing to “check in” in store to get a stamp (it requires the app to have location permissions, as well as a picture of you - but privacy invasive for my liking to be honestso that’s one reason behind 4/5.The other is the fact it’s a surplus for non diary milks, should be encouraging plant based, at least make the soy milk no additional cost!
Spent 20 minutes waiting for my takeaway order. My cappuccino (with chocolatewas given to another takeaway customer so I was expected to take his flat white order (with no chocolate), my food was given to another customer and brought back so was cold by the time it was served to me. Very disorganised, overpriced and overrated. Considering the vast amount of coffee shops in the area, I wont be visiting again.
Another exceptional London specialty coffee house. Loved the flat white. Stellar customer service
Super awesome coffee with rustic seating! This is the place where one can go not just for coffee, but also for just sitting and relaxing or working or just to have fun or to have coffee 😜.The staff are very friendly too. This is one of my favourite places in the city for a good cup of coffee!
My friends are more excited about this place than me. Just felt like a coffee chain trying to be a hipster joint, with baristas making stuff up about the bean choices they had. Coffee average — not bad and not good. Personally, I recommend walking a few hundred meters to Attendant...
Consistent quality of coffee across their various branches across London. One of the better coffee places. Love this branch for their wall murals and location right next to leather Lane street market.
Simply amazing coffee place! It is a bit expensive but worth it.. baristas They are really nice and the place has its own touch.. plus they have different beans so you choose which one you want (they gladly help you to decide), coffee is just brilliant.. beautiful beautiful coffee.. I normally dont like strong coffee and I normally drink with just one shot and lots of milk (lattesince coffee is normally too bitter for me and tastes bad but here asked for two shots and I love it! So now I think that I like quite strong coffee but it has to be good quality one! I think Costa, Starbucks and other chains cannot beat this place.. If you are a coffee lover just treat yourself with a cup of a great coffee!
Excellent coffee, just like at all their other branches across London. But the unreliable and extremely sluggish wifi makes it virtually impossible to work from here. Id love to return, as the location is ideal and there is plenty of seating on offer, but it seems unlikely unless the internet connection and very hot interior are improved.
One of the best coffees that I have had in a while! We tried the River espresso and it was super tasty.Great atmosphere and seating area as well.
I popped in today for a latte (in my keepcup...gotta think of the polar bearsand was a little surprised to be charged £2.75 for half a cup of coffee. I therefore applaud this establishment for bucking the current economic forces of "more for less" by offering me "less for more". It wasnt even an outstanding coffee to justify the cost/volume ratio. Try being a little less hipster and a bit more customer-focused chaps.
This is one of the original coffee shops first opened in London.Absolutely love the music and the friendly staff in this branch. The coffee is always good too. Right opposite Prufrock . You wont miss it. Top marks guys
Atmosphere was good and staff were nice but I was disappointed. The WiFi was terrible which meant I didnt get any work done, exacerbated by the fact the shop closed half an hour earlier than says on Google (5 not 5:30). Coffee was served in a plastic cup which would normally be fine but kept sloshing over the table when it wobbled. Despite this Id come again if the WiFi improves.
Truly excellent coffee, although it is quite expensive even for London (£3.15 for a flat white). However it is a great place to work with lots of seating including a bar overlooking the street, good Wi-Fi and lots of natural light. Its quite possible to sit for a couple of hours without feeling unwelcome (at least on a weekday). Well recommended.
I love this place. Consistently amazing coffee (if a little on the pricey side), staff are lovely, and the music playlist is top. Just wish the WiFi was a little better, although that might be a problem with my laptop...
Coffee was nice. But décor and layout not quite for me. The layout is spread out and not conducive to a lively atmosphere which I like in coffee shops.I would still much prefer to drink here than at a high street chain.
Surprisingly cheap filter for London, considering its actually decent coffee. Also tried the Almont croissant and it was great.
One of the better coffees in the area and a reasonable range of beans (But there is a range!)Potentially a little pretentious and the coffee is a little small (order large to get a normal coffee.)Wear your ripped jeans and stick-on beard to fit in!
I first came here for a barista lesson and had a great night. I would highly recommend it to anyone that has a machine at home or would just like to know what skill is going into each good cup they have. Also I think the staff are very friendly and helpful and of course the coffee tastes great. On another occasion I came here during the day specifically to work on my laptop and have good coffee. The coffee was great, the internet wasnt unfortunately so I had to stop after one and move on.
Great selection of light roasted coffee beans served by friendly and experienced baristas. One of my few most favourite roasters in London. And they sell great sandwiches and cakes as well.
Great vibe, tasty coffee. Third wave coffee care taken on every drink.
Plenty of space on weekends. Avo smash is filling and spicy. Filter coffee is solid.
The espresso long and sausage roll are both delicious but a bit pricey. Wi-Fi is a disaster. Dont come here to work. I did notice the super atmosphere, though, since Im not working. 😜
Staff were friendly, coffee is fantastic- much better than most high street options. Its always busy in the morning, but they have plenty of staff and a good system, never takes more than a few minutes to get a coffee.
A must try when in London. Its a very hip and trendy cafe with its own beat and tempo. The cafe latte with made with Ethiopian beans was nothing short of excellent. Not bad for a country better known for its tea. ;)
I believe this is one the best coffees one can buy with money in London , UK and may be Europe.I would even go as far as saying, when looking at the coffeeshops I always end up comparing the coffee quality to this ones. All else: great atmosphere, great staff and great pastries.
Great coffee shop. Loads of seating and amazingly tasty coffee. Much better than some of the chains where your options are either decaff or regular. The DCSA had a selection of different coffees ready to grind and friendly staff to boot. I would highly recommend it.
One of the best espressos in the area, although I prefer Beas of Bloomsbury because they have better cakes ;-)Real Italians might prefer Vergnano, but I think theyre in the same top-level league of coffee.
The coffee was awesome compared to whats available in Europe and the UK and those acquainted with Australian coffee would be quite satisfied with the quality of the coffee here. The atmosphere is good for light social with friendly and attentive staff with great care taken in the preparation of our food and drink.
Cute cafe but its lacking atmosphere like its sister cafe in Carnaby St has.The staff are friendly but not as chatty or keen to engage in a conversation, the coffee is still great but the place really lacks character and seems a little cold (figuratively and literally). Decor is cute, all aged wood and bright, large windows but it wouldnt be top of my list of places to frequent unless I was just popping in for a quick take away coffee.
Incredible coffee a nice smooth blend not too pretentious but with nutty overtones, wonderful stuff. The cakes were good and the atmosphere lively - I just had one reservation, having been there a few times not - no "recognition" from staff, no friendly banter whilst in the queue - I actually think the place is "too busy" for that
Great place for coffee and breakfast!Friendly staff, delicious coffee from a great variety of types, flavors and blends and a social aspect present. The decoration of the coffee place is also remarkable with the main wall being kept as it used to be with the bricks behind it giving an industrial tone ;-)
Had one of the best coffees of 2014 here today; better than some of the great coffee drunk in Italy this year.Great service, great taste, good price. No soup mugs of coffee, served as it should be, a good size and beautifully formed.Shame just passing through.
Has been on my to go list for a while. Can see why its had good reviews. Great customer service good fresh coffee. Not too hip and there is room to sit and chat or do some work whilst watching the world go by
So close to the celebrated Prufrock, the DCSA has some very stiff competition, and it is testament to their quality that they are still in business despite all the Prufrock hype!Ive had some really excellent coffee there, and theres also a delicious range of cakes etc that seem to compliment the coffees very well. The shop itself is light and airy, and is definitely a pleasant environment. The reason for my four stars (rather than five), however, is consistency. Ive had some really great coffee there, but Ive also had a couple of coffees that have slightly missed the mark. This has also been remarked upon by one of my friends, so I think its fair to say that this is not just an isolated point. That said, I really would take the time to go there - its an excellent place, and practice makes perfect, so with plenty of custom Im sure the consistency will be up there in no time.
One of the best Coffee places in London! Their filter coffee is a must try! The home made baked goods are worth checking out too, especially the afghan biscuit and Pastel de Nata. Make sure to add this place on a Coffee to do list when checking out London!
This is one of those places that if you were walking past you probably would think it was an office or a department with the name, I did initially. Since going here for numerous "coffee meetings" I now know for sure, it isnt.It is a charming little cafe which has the minimal feel with big windows to people watch whilst you have your coffee/tea and cake. The place can get busy from time to time but usually you can find somewhere to sit and the friendly staff will bring over your order too.If you fancy a trip to Leather Lane and need a warm drink, Id say for sure to go here.
Great place for a coffee & slice of cake. They take there coffee seriously but no overly so and the service is great. - Theyll bring the coffees over to you even when theyre busy at lunchtime. But the best thing I like about this atmosphere of the place, nice simple decor, they usually have a good music playing. Whilst the place can get busy If you get yourself a table your sorted & I always feel like I have more than enough space with no one bumping int me or anything annoying lie that.
Its a great cafe and I got here every morning. Coffee isnt consistent though and I find the best cups are in the morning when (this particular baristais operating the espresso. Ok not the best description but hey! When he is there, this place makes heavenly coffee
A bit of a trek away from my usual sojourns through London, I do like to occasionally drop by here for a coffee off the beaten path. This place popped up after I stopped working in the local area - I imagine its busy during the weekdays with local creatives and fringe city-types clinging to their last shreds of individuality. The coffee is excellent, and the accompanying pastries are very well matched. Both are akin to what youd get in the other self-respecting independent coffee shops in London. I like the unassuming decor and particularly like the selection of random reading material on offer. The weekend staff arent as attentive or as motivated as Id like - I dropped in on a quiet day and had to wait for two staff to finish a conversation before serving me, but when the barista brought me my warmed up pastry he was very friendly and smiley and it dispelled any resentment I had at the time.Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area!
The service at this coffee store is incredible, they are so friendly and helpful. The coffee is impressive, although the local competition is very strong. I have been here for a few business meetings and they have a great area in the back for meetings of around 10 people, which combined with great coffee and pastries, is a perfect way to spend the working day. Working WiFi too - bonus!
Okay so I got horribly lost in London. But I found this complete gem of an independent coffee shop opposite the market in Leather Lane. Art to buy on the walls, funky music and great coffee. I recommend the plum and vanilla cake. Put down your generic boring coffee and head to the Department now!
Yes a tad expensive but the coffee was soooo good! I had a toasted beef and Stilton sandwich and it was very tasty. The staff were very friendly which is a nice change for central London. Love the name too!
Lovely looking cafe but slightly shocking prices - £2.50 *per* piece of toast. Waitress just tried to upsell me too, £5 for toast is a bit much! Still, cool music, good coffee and a glasses-wearing crowd mean Ill probably be back
I was there once, and compared to other independent coffee shops in London, this place has an even more distinct kind of charm of a construction site. Perhaps it kind of still is one? I dont know. But its light, my coffee was good, and the atmosphere nice. So after one visit, I cannot see anything thats wrong with this place, as reported by others.
