A 14-minute walk from Rockhampton railway station, this Federation Filigree hotel built in 1885 is also 1.9 km from the Rockhampton Art Gallery and 5 km from Rockhampton Airport. The rustic, frontier–style rooms provide free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minifridges, and tea and coffeemaking facilities. All also offer private balconies and whirlpool tubs. The hotel offers free parking and breakfast. Airport and railway station shuttle service (in a 1938 Rolls Royce) is also available.
Booked and paid on special rate 3 nights. Tried to change to 2 nights earlier date in advance which was available to see dying Auntie sooner. Really nice girl Jamie was helpful. But sh asked her boss Matt Cook who said NO. Allthough they would be making a profit from me by reducing a night at 140 x 2n. They charged me $442 which I was happy to forfeit the extra. Not the Rocky my parents were born in. I feel sorry for the manager as she went out of her way for me and was understanding, but her greedy boss hasno compassion.
This review is based off a one-night stay without use of anemities outside the room, if any.Overall was a mediocre stay - on arrival, attempted to open the door to reception however it opens backwards (Twist the knob opposite of how it is intendedtherefore thought I was locked out. Once I figured out I just needed to twist the opposite way, reception had not attempted to open the door for me; simply stating "That happens a lot". Fix your door or keep it open. The state of the room.. Paint job extremely patchy, table cabinet sticky, panel to the plumbing open, hot water was dodgy (kept going hot and cold whilst attempting to fill the bath), price of items within the room an absolute rip off. There was plenty of physical room on top of the table cabinet - Why would you have NO MICROWAVE in the room; its like having no fridge - microwave and fridge is bread and butter in a hotel room and half of that is missing.Location is mediocre - the actual location within Rockhampton is okay, however the location in comparison to what is physically around the hotel is bad. Hearing trains every 20-30 minutes isnt cancelled out by the thin walls, however there was complimentary earplugs I am surprised the hotel did NOT charge to use, considering everything else within the room was pretty much a pay-at-the-end-of-your-stay except the soap/shampoo/conditioner standards.Positives I have is the bed is much more comfortable than other hotels Ive stayed at, its actually one large bed rather than two small beds slapped together. The toilet paper provided is good quality and the room smells generally good. Large amount of storage provided within the room which is much more beneficial for longer stays. Also the staff were genuinely nice, it was just disappointing that nil assistance was attempted when me and my partner attempted to open the door for a solid two minutes before looking stunned for what felt like 5 minutes. On departure, I got to the door as staff were entering therefore they swiftly took the room key from me and said the usual polite goodbye as one does when a guest leaves - no fiddling with further paperwork, quick and easy.I hope this review helps future guests.Edit to reply to Owner:I do not know if you know which guest you believe I am, however once I opened the door, the receptionist was sitting in the same position facing her computer and had not budged a muscle to attempt to get up to open the door. Do not say someone attempted to assist, there was no one in that room other than the receptionist. First impressions matter. Original door, sure - keep it open then if you are not going to assist your guests.Ive stayed in all sorts of accomodation all around the world, between the smallest motels up to 5-Star Hotels. I do not remember a case where a microwave has NOT been within the guests room. Whether you believe what you do or not, I am simply placing my feedback that first of all, its extremely bad in my opinion not to have a microwave in the guest room, and second to allow future guests to be aware of no microwave if theyre like me who brings food into the guest room - to be informed it will not be possible to heat up said food within the guest room.My room was positioned on the side facing the Great Western, the noises I heard every 20-30 minutes whenever I looked out were mostly trains, however there were also large noisy trucks turning the corner which mimicked the noise of said trains in proximity to the guest room. Does not take away from the fact it is a bad location regarding noise and that to reduce that noise, earplugs are essential to use. Also, taking credit for the plumbing being exposed? No. We placed the covering back over the exposed plumbing. So again, I dont know if you are aware which guest we were but it seems that it is not a one-off. Zero acknowledgement over the one major frustration which was the hot water.
Very good rooms, bad timing for us because there was a concert across the road, bit loud. The hotel itself very good.
The hotel was clean & perfectly presented! The room was large, beautiful victorian furniture with a spa and the bed was soooooo comfortable and large! We got the romance package added and it couldn’t have been set up any better! I would highly recommend for any couple wanting to get away and spice things up! The Manager Jamie is the example of going above and beyond! She was the most helpful from check in and have such great recommendations for restaurants in the area. Her welcoming and bubbly personality made the experience even more enjoyable! We will defiantly be back, 10/10
Love, love this place. Full of old world charm, four poster beds which are very comfortable and beautifully decked out with antiques. We paid $125 for a Sunday night and it included a Continental breakfast for 2. If you like a romantic getaway, this is the place. We always stay here when passing through Rockhampton.
Beautifully restored and all furnishings very fitting for the era. Would definitley stay again.
The beds are so thick n comfortable had the best 2 nights sleep. rooms are lovely the staff are friendly, and breakfast is a very reasonable price. There is a great pub across the road and a 5 minute drive to town.
We always stay here when in town. Such a unique experience, love the furniture. Best bed ever
A room with large elaborate 4 posted bed with corner spa bath and shower. A well positioned couch at the foot of the bed. A reasonably stocked mini fridge and box of munchies if you need to indulge. Wife and I enjoyed the stay. Love to come.
Great looking place. Room we stayed in looked like its from a movie set.
Lovely hotel. Spacious room with beautiful furniture and a spa bath. The 4 poster bed was extremely comfortable. Unfortunately we had to leave early in the morning so we didn’t get to have the breakfast. Highly recommend.
Absolutely beautiful rooms, breakfast included which was plentiful. Staff are lovely
Everything about the bedroom and bed are beautiful and so comfortable and luxurious and very competitively priced. Also the breakfast room is so welcoming and comfortable. I’m so pleased that we stayed here. The best stay that we’ve had.
Really great room and a nice continental breakfast setup. Pleasure to stay here.
We had a great stay at the Denison. Loved the old world feel, comfy bed and lovely spa and hot shower. Cassie on reception was a delight and couldn’t do enough for us. We shall miss our morning chats Cassie.
The room was large and very comfortable. The location is not good but in terms of value for money, you can’t beat it.
My wife and I had chosen The Denison for a two day visit to see Rockhampton as the lady wanted a spa room. Wow beautiful room, Victorian era, comfort plus bed, very stylish and super clean. We are seasoned at hotel/ motels from USA and around Aus and this rates very highly in all areas. Comfort, cleanliness, staff and value. Other Hotels that have rated highly have had big names but very $$$, so well done Denison! Very impressed!
The rooms and beds are stunning unique and comfortable. I stayed in a spa suite it was fantastic. However, I was extremely disappointed that I could not get a late checkout.
Stop looking and book now! This is such a unique experience, makes all other hotels in Rockhampton so mundane. Step back in time and appreciate the antiquity, but with all the modern convienences and pub across the road. Excellent customer service, happy and helpful staff and the largest, comfortable bed youll find in Rocky.
Most comfortable bed ever !!! I couldnt even feel my partner moving around next to me in bed. Had a great nights sleep. Lovely customer service from the lady at reception which made us feel welcome. Rooms were extremely clean. Popular pub across the road however the hotel provided two sets of ear plugs. Wasnt that loud from the pub and I appreciated the gesture. The rooms look stunning with a nod back to the early 1900s. And again must say how clean it was. A lovely stay. Thank you Denison Boutique Hotel 👍
This was a little hidden gem that will always be on my list of places to stay when ever traveling through Rockhampton. The room was so pretty with the softest 4 post bed Ive ever slept in... Well the only one Ive slept in.But with a magnificent spa bath in the room as well, its an amazing place to spoil yourself or a great little escape as a date night.Foxtel had a little reception issue the night I stayed, but it was insignificant in comparison to the luxury of this accommodation outweighs this.Seriously a worth more than 5 stars!
At first glance the room looked very nice.Once we got comfortable though we started noticing the dust!Dust was all over the top of the four post bed, all over the material drapping from the top of the posts. Also the blanket on the bed didn’t feel clean. I have really bad allergies and this room really set them off.The mattress on the bed was very uncomfortable. We had a spa bath and the water from the tap went cold before we could even fill the bath up.And the trains my goshhhh 😫 I realise it is right next to a train line, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that loud. If you are a light sleeper I wouldn’t stay here. They did provide ear plugs but I wasn’t able to get comfortable with them in my ears.Reception were very friendly and welcoming.Room would have been better if it was dusted properly.
Wonderful old world hotel, with large rooms and high ceilings, antique style furniture and a very comfortable custom built 4 poster king size bed.Great value continental breakfast. It is right on the railway line with a couple of trains each night, but the rest makes up for it, (ear plugs provided for light sleepers)
Super-charming heritage hotel. If you’re a light sleeper or can’t handle outside noise this may not be the place for you. You will here some traffic (not a lot, it’s not a very busy streetand trains go past, but honestly that only made it feel cosier inside. Very comfortable bed, just all-round a gorgeous place to stay.
Such a beautiful hotel! We absolutely loved our stay here. The bed was so comfortable. Loved the spa in the room. We will be staying again when ever were back up in Rockhampton. Thanks.
Had 2 nights here mid June. Very spacious & comfortable period style room with a shower over a spa in the corner of room, which is unusual (and would be tricky for less agile folk). Huge king size bed very comfy. It overlooks the rail line and the area is a tad industrial and a little out of town (15 mins stroll from the Riverside strip where all the nice cafes/restaurants are. Great sunset views from balcony
Fabulous experience from arrival to departure. Like many have said, it felt like going back in time. The building is lovely from the outside, old style verandahs. Open air parking great for high clearance vehicle (and free). Check in was very pleasant and quick. The room was fabulous, huge very comfortable 4 poster bed, a really nice and comfortable couch and a smart tv. We arrived at 6pm and chose not to go out so that we could get the most out of the room. The spa bath was really lovely and the shower was great. We were given a late check-out so we could spend a bit more time living in luxury. Would definitely recommend and stay again if in Rockhampton.
Where do I start! This hotel has the the most beautiful, and I mean beautiful rooms. Four poster carved beds with canopy!! Super comfy lounges to loll around and read. Clean ... just so so clean, and lovely staff. The period style garden complements the building.
Room is absolutely stunning the only downsides were the foisty/stagnant smell - as if the room hadnt been regularly aired out and the mattress was definitely sunken on each side with a ridge in the middle, there wasalso some dust in the spa tub and a piece had been broken off the coffee table and was barely holding on when we arrived so a tiny bump and it came off totally. Reception staff friendly and accomodating and happily gave us a late checkout but as breakfast is early there wont be any review from myself (also as dietary requirements not asked for, probably not catered for). Could do with better curtains as they dont cover the windows adequately especially over the wardrobe and soundproofing from the train line (not everyone likes wearing ear plugs). I would stay here again though, the old world charm is gorgeous and the spa comfortably fits two. Could use a step on the outside of it for those of us that are vertically challenged though. Bit far removed from town to walk comfortably especially when inebriated.
Beautiful heritage hotel showcasing class and sophistication at a reasonable price. We checked in late without issue. Room was neat and tidy with plenty of room to move. The spa bath is huge and easily fits two people for an intimate couples spa. The bed is soft and inviting. Breakfast is available from 7am daily. I highly recommend staying here.
