2801 Elm St, Dallas, TX 75226, United States, Centerville
In a residential and commercial area, this trendy, relaxed hostel is a 4-minute walk from Baylor University Medical Center Light Rail Station, and 2 miles from both Dallas Museum of Art and the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. The warm female-only and mixed-gender dorms have bunk beds with outlets and personal USB plugs, reading lights, mini-fans and lockers. Bathrooms are shared, and linens are provided. Private rooms add en suite bathrooms. All have free Wi-Fi.Breakfast is free. Other amenities include a bar, a shared kitchen, a lounge and a book exchange, plus a vinyl player and record collection. Guest laundry facilities are available.
I was excited to visit this hostel in August for the Lady Gaga concert but apparently whoever owns this business had other plans. Can you honestly sit there and tell me that it’s o.k. to suddenly close your doors with little notice and a simple cancellation email? Now I have to scramble and find a room somewhere else while paying increased prices because I’m close to my booking date. I hope whoever decided this was a good way to close a business (you could’ve just stopped taking reservations but I guess that’s a foreign concept to you.never finds success with any other business they hope to start and is constantly reminded everyday how their actions effect people. Seriously. And your decision to leave a dumbbell as a person to answer your phones was also in poor taste.
Not the best hostel I’ve stayed at, the cleanliness of shared spaces wasn’t very good. The bathroom floors were slimey and everything felt like it wasn’t being routinely cleaned enough or at all. Service was alright although I don’t think I’ll ever stay here again. Parking was a nightmare on the weekends they block off any way of you getting to the hostel, so you’ll have to pay for parking nearby and walk to the hostel they don’t tell you that though if you’re not aware of it beforehand
Staff is friendly and welcoming. They make things really easy. I wish the lounge and upstairs common areas were a bit more lit. Aside from that this place is clean and has good vibes all around! The place provides a towel so thats one less to worry about as well!
I would stay here again. The staff is wonderful. The dorms are clean and comfortable. Booty’s was so much fun.
I checked in the clerk charged my credit card charged me then kicked me out. I asked for a refund Allen said no. The management and Allen r thieves. I have travelled all over the world and never experienced thieves like this. Allen said he don’t take us navy Id. Why then did he check me in then kicked me out. I asked for a refund he said no. Why give me a room then 10 minutes later kicked me out with no refund. Allen is a thief. He seemed sluggish in his speech. Not a detective but Allen may be a meth user. Not judging but he needs help. Taking his expensive habit to work with him. Shame on management for over looking this duly wrong process.
Hostel has a great location in the vibrant Deep Ellum District. Nice decor and good facilities. Staff were welcoming and fun - Adrienne and Jim were great company during my stay.
Cleanliness, efficiency of staff, friendly and helpful staff at all timesRespectful staffNice space to eat read and have a quiet momentI love the atmosphere and will visit again and will recommend to friends and family
Beds were clean. Only 1 bathroom but thats ok considering I just needed a place to sleep. Overall quiet and cold and peaceful.
What an amazing hostel with such good vibes. I’ve stayed in hostels all over the world and I love love loved this hostel. The space is everything! Big Jim is a gift to Deep Ellum Hostel! The staff are great and always saw them going out of their way to help people with directions and where to eat. Will be back for sure!
So this would’ve been my first time staying at a hostel. I read about it online. I thought it would’ve been a great idea to stay here since I’m only in Dallas for one night. I just could not get past the smell. It smelled really bad. And it was dust everywhere too. I immediately started looking at other places to stay. I don’t think I was here for a whole hour. And I just wasted 60 dollars too. :( I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone !
Awesome place!!! This was my first experience staying in a hostel and all the staff made it feel very safe and fun. 10000% recommend
Great place. Felt safe. Staff was super nice so were all of the other guests. Definitely recommend!
I was impressed with the cleanliness , all staff was super nice and helpful , if your looking for a nice place that’s clean and secure( not just any one can come through the door this is it . The noise level was pretty high, but I knew from other reviews before booking, but actually I had no problems getting to sleep , with the help from my headphones and some tunes.
This place is awesome. I would suggest bring your own lock because the ones they sell are a bit expensive ($6). They have several bathrooms and showers but when they are full, It is a bit of a wait. For the price and the location, you cant beat it and the staff is cool AF. Im definitely going to stay there again.
This place was located close to everything you need. The staff was great from check in and the big guy from Chicago (forgot his namewent above and beyond to ensure my stay was great! Christian, umm not so friendly 😅. That said, I would definitely come back when in the area!
Lively hostel, great vibe about the place. Staff are very helpful, especially big Jim! He’s an absolute gem and made my stay amazing! I’ll be back :)
I am keeping on extending :I feel really comfy and good. I am pregnant also but I feel like home… Thank you guys for your hospitality and being clean.
Staff was very helpful, rooms and bathrooms were clean, beds were very comfortable. Very good food and nightlife nearby.
This was my first time ever staying at a hostel and I was rather skeptical, but after just a few hours being here, my mind was put at ease. All staff I interacted with from check-in to check-out was very personable and friendly, the linens given were clean and fresh, the room was nice looking and taken care of, the shared bathroom was in good condition, and I made a new friend in the process of staying here who I went and got some food and drinks with. Its also very conveniently placed near several bars and food joints. Will definitely stay here again someday when Im back in Dallas.
Clean, great staff, well-located, I’ve stayed in a dozen hostels in the US and this one is top 2 or 3…I hope to one day start a hostel and I learned a great deal from this one…this is hostelling done the right way…my next trip thru Dallas I’d rather stay here than a hotel…
Great place, love the location. The staff was very cool except the man with the glasses : unpleasant and not cool.If I come back I will choose this hostel for sure.
I stayed in a single room alone and found the staff (Allanreally friendly and helpful. The room was slightly louder at night due to the bar downstairs, but it was a great atmosphere...
The Deep Ellum Hostel is located in a great spot of downtown, and has beautiful interior architecture. However, they are housing a few homeless crazies cause of the cheap price. Im guessing it was a state mandate.
Is a good place to stay, the only problems are one of the persons in the staff makes jokes with doble sense and racist, the second problem is that not all the toilets work , 2 of 5 toilets have problems and they didn’t solve it in a week. All the other things are good just take in count that the area is very loudly on weekends.
Excellent location. Just steps away from from restaurants and night life. The hostel is clean and very well run. Great vibes and right next door to a late night pizza spot and hostel bar. The rooms are equipped with AC and a master fan. There is a little light and personal fan in your bunk as well. Storage option under your bed to lock your luggage and valuables (bring your own lock). The nightlife makes it loud outside, but I slept though the night no problem. Highly recommend and would stay there again.
This is the best hostel I have ever stayed in. It has a huge seating area downstairs that is really nice. It has a clean kitchen and the best bathrooms of any hostel I have been in. I was worried after reading some reviews about the area. Its actually really nice, with loads of eateries, nice restaurants, cafes, ice cream shops, vintage shops. Im a single woman travelling alone and felt completely safe.It is about half hour walk from the main area of the city, so if the hostel put up directions of how to get to union station/ bus stations on their notice board, that would be really helpful.
My first experience with Deep Ellum Hostel was arriving and being processed by Big Jim and he’s fantastic! Jim was friendly, kind, attentive, helpful and concerned that I am well taken care of. The hostel is clean and well managed. The linens were clean, seemed fresh (I’ve been in condos where the linens stunk and I had to wash them). It is loud outside, music from DEH bar and other bars until ~2am, that carries in, so headphones or earbuds are a must to sleep, and I had basic ear plugs as well. A few people party outside all night. My roommates were cool and quiet. There is a fan and private light on each bunk and outlets for recharging mobile devices. Private bathrooms with showers are well maintained, nice hot water shower. Coffee maker and full kitchen downstairs. Cafe Brazil is 3 doors down and a great little 24 hour cafe with breakfast. Easy walk to DART rapid transit. Deep Ellum is cool to walk around and see the people on the street and live bars at night with police presence on the weekends. If I return to Dallas, I’ll take my ear buds and ear plugs and return to Deep Ellum Hostel.
This place is magic! Truly, it does not sleep, but if you’re game for a warm, inviting, dynamic community experience in the heart of deep ellum, you’ll not be disappointed. Guaranteed high adventure in an unparalleled location The staff is incredible, offering some of the best ‘service’ I’ve ever received at a hostel, internationally (definitely not my first rodeo). Could not more highly recommend this spot. Biggest thanks to Rachel, Allen, Jimbo, and the beautiful team!
I am only writing this review because I wish this were mentioned anywhere online:Very comfortably appointed hostel - the decor and the ambience was on the higher end, the staff was friendly and accommodating. BUT I would never stay here again as there was a nightclub right below the rooms and even with the provided earplugs, it felt like the speakers were blasting next to my head. The music was SO LOUD there would be nowhere on this property anyone could get away from the noise. I would never have booked this place if I this were mentioned anywhere, but the reviews nor the hostels website did not mention this at all.
Great Location, great hospitality and just a fun place all around. My daughter -in-law had never stayed at a hostel before and she loved the new experience. I try to stay at them when I am traveling, if possible. Highly recommend just for the location. It was close to everything that you would need & can walk to sightsee. We stayed in a private room for her comfort. Over all the hostel was very clean, affordable and had an awesome décor. We diffidently will be a returning customer next time we are in Dallas. We loved our experience, and highly recommend Deep Ellum Hostel.
Got a private room and was extremely impressed. It was super large and clean. The guy at the front desk was wonderful, I think his name was Jesse. Just a great stay even though it was short. Excellent location
Staff there is very friendly and welcoming. Especially Omar- the event coordinator. Hes very fun and very helpful. I would definitely book here in the future.
Absolutely wonderful! We had 3 ladies in a 3bedroom with a private bathroom and it was clean and cozy, very nice people too! Mateo at the front desk was incredibly helpful and a pleasure to speak with about local things to do and how to enjoy the Hostel experience!
If you want to be downtown and something different, this is the place. Price friendly, Because it is a hostel there are tiny private rooms or even cheaper group beds with lockers done in Industrial Style(took lots of photos)Very safe area, immaculate, and perfect location for the Club Scene and tourist sites. Staff was so helpful and friendly. Will book again.
The first night I stayed here, which was 03-23-22 I left my backpack inside my room which had my samsung tablet inside of it. I drank some drinks this night & didnt think leaving my backpack in my "locked" room was going to be a problem bc you know it was locked & this is supposed to be a professional setting. The next day I woke up wanting to watch a movie & my tablet was gone. No one in my room took it. I believe it was staff. They have a master key & the people who work here are very sketchy. A person I met here also had some of her prescribed pills stolen along with $500 but doesnt matter who took our stuff the place is not safe at all & might as well be a homeless shelter.
If you want to actually sleep, do not stay here. They have their own bar attached that they keep open well past midnight, music full blast can be heard crystal clear through ear plugs while the bass reverberates the rooms. Even on a Monday night. If it was a friday ya i get it. But a Monday? Cmon. Also, located in a sketchy part of town, lots of shady folks around the block. This isnt hinted at anywhere on their website, so if youre from out of town be aware. The hostel is clean and nice, but the atmosphere makes sleeping extremely difficult.
Our stay in Deep Ellum met our expectations. The rooms were spacious, the staff was friendly, and the hostel had good facilities. At night it was unfortunately very loud as many people party on Elm street. We also got unlucky with the weather and it was therefore freezing in the bedroom.
I wanted the single bed room but they were already booked. Loud music until 11. You cant bring food into your room. They have food out for guest sometimes.Very clean. If you are looking for a low cost place to stay at night after bar hopping and you dont mind roommates, this is the place to be.
Staff was helpful & nice. But this place is filthy. Dust all over the beds and just entire room. The air filter in our room said it needs changed, probably fromAll the dust. Bathrooms were very nasty. Only showered once on my 2 night stay because I felt dirty getting out. Not sure I saw one cleaning person my entire stay.
This hostel was okay. Cool vibes and friendly staff, but probably one of the dirtier places I’ve stayed. The walls of my bunk had a layer of dust and pretty much every fixture in all the common areas as well. There was soap scum all over on the glass walls in the showers, and surfaces needed wiped down badly. Overall the whole place needs a thorough deep cleaning. I’d consider coming back if they actually kept up with it.
The staff and other residents were incredibly gracious, kind and accommodating. I had an amazing time while staying at the hostel! I recommend it as a beautiful melting pot whose home is as welcoming as the people you meet.
Grewt place to stay. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to be who they are. Its right in Deep Ellum close to whatever/however you chose to spend your day. Short walk to train/bus station. Staff was helpful and the environment is peaceful. Will definitely stay here next time in Dallas.
We booked a private room with a bathroom. Upon checking into the hostel we walked around to get some food and realized how rough of a neighborhood we were in. We then made it back to the hostel to settle in for the night and there was no functioning lock on our room door. We went down and told the front desk attendant and she sent up a guy (not really sure this guys role.He came up and played with it for about 15 seconds and basically said there was nothing he could do and asked "is it really a problem for you guys? The lock probably hasnt worked in about 3 years." I was kind of dumbfounded honestly, we immediately checked out and requested a refund. While we were downstairs checking out, the guy who had come up to "look at the door" was down in the common area just kind of being loud and whatnot with guests.. I highly recommend people not book this place. The price for a private room (even if things were functionalis not even close to worth the terrible neighborhood and experience. Then, on top of that, the staff is incredibly incapable and seems rather unprofessional. You can find a cheaper, safer, and higher quality stay at tons of other places in the city. I wish I could leave a zero star review.
Ok my first night in Dallas I needed a place as my hotel was overbooked. It is in Deep Ellum and it looked like a fun area but a little sketchy which it was. Even the front desk person didn’t say it was amazing but it was fine for the night. I was more nervous with leaving my car on the street and a lot of sketchy people around this area. The hostel itself was ok but not somewhere I would sleep again. The bed was uncomfortable, the rails were broken and the ladder to top bed was off the hinges so dangerous. No one fixed it. Also did not sleep at all with all the music playing and people walking into my room and turning lights on at numerous times. But some good stuff was meeting cool people I would meet again, and the restaurants are cool around there, and the staff was helpful. Just not my ideal type of sleeping arrangement. Now I know.
My stay here was a real pleasure. I arrived super late at night after a long drive and the man at the front desk was so kind, friendly and helpful. I stayed in a private room that was lovely, clean, modern with a comfortable mattress. In the morning I found out that this neighborhood is great to walk around in with cool shops, bars and restaurants nearby. I’ll be recommending this place to my friends.
A great hostel! The staff are friendly and helpful if you need anything. The dorm-room beds are a good size, reasonably comfortable and each one comes with a small shelf, reading light, power point and a mini-fan. There is also a/c in each room and the windows can be opened too. The lockers are under the beds and a good large size. The dorm rooms facing the main street can get a bit noisy at night on the weekends, so if youre not a night-owl then you might want to ask for a room further in. Each shared bathroom has a good-sized shower with excellent hot water, a sink and a toilet. Similar to a home bathroom and much nicer than Im used to finding in a hostel. The kitchen is equipped with all the tools you need to do basic cooking and there was usually some fridge space for your leftovers.
One of the best places I’ve ever stayed on a trip! Everyone was so friendly and the both rooms I stayed in were so clean! Staff was so helpful and accommodating and available 24/7!My partner and I stayed in a single room the first night and a dorm room the second night and I highly recommend both! The single room was so luxurious and if you are traveling with friends it’s spacious enough for four people! The dorm rooms were clean and safe and an excellent option for those of you trying to save money!I will definitely be going back!
Really great hostel in the heart of a cultural/club district. I stayed in a six person dorm and everyone was respectful and great to meet! Its wonderful to be able to visit music venues and crash after a long night. Staff was very friendly and exceedingly helpful. Pro-tip - if you do end up staying on the weekend and want to go to bed early to bring some earplugs just for the outside music.
This place is right in the middle of the Deep Ellum night life. The vibe is super chill and convivial, and everyone from the staff to the guests are super cool and laid back. We stayed in a private room, and it was so beautiful, I couldn’t believe it was in a hostel. If you like hanging out in coffee shops and the like, you’ll love staying here. It’s affordable, bed is super comfortable, decor is wonderfully eclectic, and there are bars and restaurants all around just a hop skip and a jump away from the door. I will definitely stay here again when I pass through Dallas.
Absolutely loved this place! My mom and I stayed here when I came to Dallas to have surgery and its so close to the hospital. The front desk was super friendly and accommodating. The rooms were so clean and the design was really fun and new. Definitely better than some of the hotels weve stayed in over the years. I loved the community kitchen on the first floor and the surrounding area was amazing. It felt like there were restaurants every 10 feet. You can totally feel the rich history and culture seeping out of every building. 10/10 would highly recommend!
