Decoy Country Cottages - in Drogheda, Ireland
Decoy Country Cottages in Drogheda
Description
Just back from a lovely weekend in the stables at decoy cottages, we had a lovely time, the house was beautiful, clean and well equipped with everything you can think of, Paula has thought of everything, from the detailed guide, the amazing play area and activities for kids to the lovely welcome basket waiting for us in arrival. Paula was very quick to respond to any questions, we wish we had been able to stay longer.
MoreThe accommodations are gorgeous and huge! The buildings and grounds are beautifully maintained. The staff is lovely in true Irish tradition, making us feel so welcome and supported. Everything was exactly as represented. And it was quite close to the wedding venue and all we needed. I highly recommend Decoy Country Cottages!
MoreWe stayed 3 nights whilst visiting son in Navan.Tack Cottage was an excellent choice of accomodation ; very comfortable, quiet & spacious with everything that we needed. Lovely to have the wood burning stove in the evenings making it very cosy.A lovely retreat at the end of busy days.We pre- ordered a homemade dinner & dessert for our first night which was very good & saved a lot of hassle. Great to have this option. We didnt use the Bbq area or the gym only because we didnt have time but had a game of table tennis.Enjoyable stay; we would not hesitate to stay here again.
MoreThe location, the appartment, the environment - especially for kids! and the staff.
MoreMyself and 23 of my friends stayed at The Decoy Cottages from June 29th to July 6th of 2022. Our golf group occupied 5 of the 8 houses (cottagesthat were available & everyone in my group was very pleased with their accommodations. They were very spacious & very well appointed and the welcome gift basket of assorted goodies was an unexpected & very pleasant surprise. Paula, the owner & her staff were absolutely outstanding !!!!!!! If I could give it a 10 star rating, I most certainly would. My only regret was not getting Paula to prepare more meals for our group, the 1 meal that we did have was absolutely superb. Its located about 45 min from Dublin & 15 min from Navan. The location is very peaceful and tranquil. I would highly, highly recommend this property to any family or group that is seeking phenomenal accommodations. Paula, I cant thank you & your staff for an absolutely amazing and memorable stay.Joe Glover
MoreLovely accommodation in an excellent location for exploring the surrounding area.
MoreGreat accommodations, well stocked kitchen and great location for our vacation in Ireland.
MoreVery luxurious, I had the Tack Room. 2 Floors, large roomes. A stay even for longer times possible. Unfortunately my German mobile hone had no connection in the rooms, I had to go outside to the farest point of the children playground. Thats the only negative aspect.
MoreWe had a family reunion here and it was the most perfect location. There was a group of 23 of us and the houses were just perfect. We were able to all do our own thing independently and then group together in the evening for a barbecue. Paula was most helpful and very responsive to the emails prior to the event. I would highly recommend Decoy Cottages.
MoreWe stayed at the Coach House for almost two weeks with our 10 month old daughter. The house is very spacious, and we were provided with everything you need for staying with a baby, including cot, high chair and baby bath! It was also great to have a washing machine and tumble dryer.A few small changes would make this five star - the blinds in the upstairs bedrooms are very tired and could do with replacing, and the door to the downstairs toilet would jam against the floor which was a nuisance.Overall would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful spot with plenty of day trips nearby.
MoreWe stayed in The Stables. It is modern, fully kitted out, and a great location! The kids play area in the back and the tree house are amazing for families. We loved Scoot and the seeing the other animals! The Welcome gift was so thoughful and amazing. We had a great time and will be back!
MoreWe stayed at The Forge for a long weekend as we were visiting the area for a family wedding. It was my parents, husband, brother and his partner and my toddler and newborn. The outside area was great and my 2.5 year old had such a good time on the trampoline and playing football. Any issues were sorted out quickly by Paula who was lovely. We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay again.
MoreThis was the third time of staying at Decoy and it is a fantastic facility when looking to visit relatives in the area. The accommodation caters for everything and the home cooking by Paula is worth experiencing. The homemade apple tart was delicious and so good, we took the remaining portion on our travels to Connemara the next day, which made the beach experience even better. We stayed in the Tack Room which is ideal for a couple, very comfortable, nicely decorated and the whole complex is situated in a beautiful location. If you must use devices, the WiFi was perfect.
MoreJust spent a lovely weekend here with 15 friends... fabulous spacious cottages, all mod cons and everything you need is provided! Lovely area ...would highly recommend!
MoreBeautiful area to visit. Our accommodation was spacious and very comfortable. Our host was kind and helpful.
MoreAbsolutely fantastic accommodation. We are currently staying in the Hen House and it is lovely, modern and generously provisioned. On arrival there was tea, coffee, chocolates, plenty of accoutrements for cooking and a lovely welcome gift of provisions.Barbara, who we met on arrival, was amazing and so friendly, as was Paula who I spoke to on the phone before arriving. The Den next to our cottage has tons of toys for our 3 year old to play with and he loves the outdoor play area. We waved at the llamas this morning and hope to see more of them before we leave. Its no wonder this spectacular place has won awards, its really a great place to stay.
MoreTook our elderly Mum for Mothers Day for a week 21-28th March. Weather was superb. The Barn was lush. Very comfortable, clean and spacious. Everybody slept very well. Wood burner was gorgeous in the evenings. The location was simply beautiful. The host Paula was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. 5 stars all day long. Highly recommend the Decoy cottages.
MoreWe had a three bedroom house for three nights, very impressed with the facilities. Everything you could want in a kitchen, cosy living room with couches and a TV, and comfy beds. The heating wasnt great on the first night in one of the bedrooms, but Paula supplied a portable heater to help sort it, and we got the fire going in the living room too.Really well set up for kids - our guy had lots of fun drawing on the blackboard in the communal den, and playing with the toy kitchen. There are a couple of llamas on site, as well as chickens, a three-legged cat and lots of birds, so plenty for small kids to watch outside. There are plenty of things to do nearby as well - Navan has a great swimming pool, and a walk in Balrath Woods was nice despite the rain!Zucchinis in Navan is also highly recommended for a meal out!Paula was very kind to send on a toy we had left behind as soon as she could get her hands on - A+!
MoreWe stayed a decoy cottages (The Barnprior to a family gathering. Its close to Dublin, the airport and the port. Set in a beautiful part of Meath with much to see in the surrounding area. The house is very comfortable, warm and welcoming. So many extra touches that made the difference. The welcome basket...what a treat, fresh eggs and bread!! The beds are so comfortable. Paula answered an queries quickly and nothing was too much. Added bonus we were able to charge our electric car. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
MoreLove this venue- beautiful setting and the houses are always in excellent condition. Have stayed many times and look forward to visiting again. Paula is so welcoming and accommodating- makes organising very easy.
MorePerfect home from home! Spotlessly clean, perfect for children, very safe and quiet for them to run around with plenty outdoors and in the den to entertain them. We loved our stay, Paula is an excellent host - she has thought of everything and is very helpful and responsive. We will be back!
MoreGorgeous cottages, they have everything you could possibly need. The are spotlessly clean and the rooms are really spacious.
MoreWhat a lovely place to stay. We stayed in "The Barn" which was spacious but still cozy. The Christmas decorations were a wonderful touch. The host Paula was great. Very very child friendly, which was brilliant. Wed come back again for sure.
MoreMy daughter and I spent 6 days at Decoy cottages and it was by far the best holiday home accomadation I have ever been in. We stayed in The Henhouse, 1 king size bedroom.. Huge! Second bedroom was en suite and had a very comfortable pull out sofa bed. There was also a single bed and Childs travel cot available for use if needed. The house was extremely well stocked with everything we needed and Paula had left a lovely welcome basket for us containing a half dozen free range eggs from their own hens... Which were delicious, a loaf of brown soda bread, milk , tea, butter, and locally made marmalade. We didnt need to buy any household supplies, they were already there which was really great. The washing machine and tumble dryer was great to have also. We lit the stove in the sitting room every evening which was very cozy.. Firewood, firelighters, matches all supplied. Paula checked in by email to see that we were doing ok and we felt assured that we only had to ask if there was anything we needed. It honestly felt like a home away from home and we were sorry to leave, we will definitely stay here again.. I couldnt say enough good things about it or recommend it highly enough.. It was just wonderful, try it for yourself , you will not be disappointed
MoreWe have stayed at Decoy Cottages on four different occasions and each time has been superb. The service from Paula and the team is excellent. The cottages are so well catered for and a lot of thought has been given to what people really need when away from their own home. Location is perfect for airport, Dublin port, Dublin City and holidays around Meath/Louth/Dublin. We will be back again this year.
MoreOut third family holiday at Decoy and again had an amazing stay. Lovely clean accommodation in a great location.Ideal for children as a very safe place with locked security gates. Paula and her team are very welcoming and nothing is to much trouble. We will continue to visit Decoy and look forward to going back soon.
MoreBeautiful location and setting. My house was spotless and very comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with all I needed to cook. The starter goodie bag was really lovely touch with all local produce. Paula makes a big effort to have ecofriendly products in the house and the voya shower gels, shampoos etc were a real treat. I had my dog with me too; the place was very well set up for pets and very safe. I would definitely recommend decoy cottages to friends and family.
MoreGreat accommodation, in a great location and made to be so welcome by Paula and her team. Nothing to much trouble and a very welcoming atmosphere and highly recommended. Im sure we will back in the future.
MoreAmazing place for families - spacious, cozy, well equipped ... with a fireplace to keep you warm on a rainy evening! Lots of sightseeing in the area, lots of fun activities as well. Wonderful rural setting yet near Dublin. We had a great time there, our youngest enjoyed the great playground and chickens behind the house, and the cat that was visiting us every morning. Just wonderful - great place, great hospitality! Thank you, Paula!
MoreAccommodation was great, a few minor adjustments but our host Paula was quick and efficient in meeting our requirements. The place is well equipped and was comfortable for our family of 8. Lovely play areas for adults and children. It is remote but with lots to offer at the location so not to feel bored. We wanted a place just to relax and enjoy our family reunion after Covids tragic affect on our family. Decoy Cottages was perfect. I found the Cottages a little far from the shops as it was a self catering unit. We didnt hire a car but found a Local Taxi service that was available on Whats app with afordable and friendly service to take us wherever we wanted to go. I highly recommend Decoy cottages to anyone who wants to enjoy a respite time. Thank you Paula for your kindness and generosity. I will definitely be back.
MoreWe had a lovely and very relaxing time here at Decoy in Autumn 2021. The copybook of helpful tips on attractions in the area (thoughtfully written by other guestswas a really nice touch, as was the welcome basket. The thoughtful addition of hot chocolate sachets was a great touch too, for kids especially. The cottage complex is a converted stable mews and has been very sympathetically restored. The courtyard landscaping, outdoor areas and our cottage were all very aesthetically pleasing. It was really good that cars were not allowed into the courtyard area except for loading and unloading. This made the area quieter (theres crunchy gravel in the courtyard), and safer for kids. It was great to see a trampoline, basketball hoop and small playground for children, as well as the comfortable den area with table football etc. There was even a gym area for adults, although we did not use this, and it looked very good. It was lovely to have a stove for the cosy autumn evenings we spent at Decoy, with a great stock of wood. Perhaps a little kindling could also have been provided, as the fire refused to light on our second evening. One other area where I could suggest improvement is to provide curtains upstairs for all bedrooms. The blinds in the bedroom in our cottage where our child was sleeping did not fully block out the morning light, but the thick, full curtains in the other room worked really well. The TV in our cottage did not work (for its primary function as television), perhaps due to poor signal, as the picture was blurry and intermittent. We used the TV with the DVD player instead, which worked in the end, but was rather ancient and slow to respond. I would also suggest that the instructions about the bins/recycling could perhaps be given via with a note clearly visible on the table at the start of the stay (or maybe on the bin cupboard), rather than by email during the stay, as not everyone checks email when on holiday. The same applies to the email request to let the owners know if anything needs to be fixed or batteries that need to be replaced: it would be good to have this on a separate note on the table upon arrival. But these are minor quibbles, and just suggestions for further improvement to what is a great place to stay. For a two night stay it can seem quite pricey, particular for bank holiday weekends. But we had a wonderful time and would go back, perhaps at a less expensive time of year! Loads to do in the area, and this cottage complex is great, and potentially even more fabulous with a few tweaks!
MoreSuch a fantastic location, Paula was so helpful in the run up to our stay and while we were there. The cottages themselves were beautiful and really great spaces for our big groups. Incredibly child friendly with lots to do. Just an all round fab place to stay.
MoreWe stayed in the Parlour as a family of 5 (3 kids aged 10, 9, 8). The house was the perfect size for us and an abundance of room for the kids. It was incredibly clean and fully equipped with everything. All electricals appliances, pots, pans, plates. Absolutely beautiful property. The facility itself if very very safe and secured with electric gates. The kids could ramble around on their own at ease. The Den (play property on sitewas excellent. My kids spend some time in there playing the football table game, the giant jegna pieces, reading the books, playing pool and of course they had a few games on the playstation (with many gamesthat was there.Outside the facility there was a lovely small playground, a fab trampoline and a nice large football pitch. The kids loved it! There was also 2 very friendly lamas to visit and an abundance of hens. We went looking for eggs every day. There was an amazing BBQ area with BBQ provided which we used. The BBQ area was beautifully set up with lighting and outdoor furniture. Lovely area to eat and relax in.Our stay in this property was fantastic and we will most certainly be back.
MoreGreat location to visit local attractions or even a trip to Dublin city, spacious accommodation for the seven of us, had all the amenities we needed and more, the children loved the den and outdoor play areas, felt very safe so we could really relax and enjoy our staycation. Thank you Paula.
MoreHouses are spacious and clean. Customer Service from Paula is prompt and friendly. Great little outdoor area with tables & chairs, swing, sandpit, sunken trampoline and goalposts. Very safe as there is an electric gate at entrance and no cars are permitted beyond the carpark in the courtyard so the children could safely run between houses. Just 10 minutes from Tayto Park which is why we stayed. Would highly recommend.
MoreStayed in The Barn for 3 nights recently (July 2021and would highly recommend for anyone wanting a break! We were part of a group with 4 children under 4 - the play facilities and safety of the complex was very reassuring & allowed us to really enjoy our break. Within a short driving distance to Navan, tayto park, Newgrange and hill of Tara, the location is spot on! Have already recommended to family & friends and will hopefully get back ourselves again in the winter. Thanks Paula & all there
MoreWe had a fabulous family stay in Decoy Cottages, so spacious and everything you could need was provided making it a stress free family holiday. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back
MoreFantastic and exactly what the family was looking for. Lots of space & great accommodation. We have already recommended it to a few friends and will stay next time we are in Ireland 100%.Big thanks to Paula & the team.
MoreWe stayed at Decoy cottages in late June 2021, and our stay was wonderful. We stayed in the Coach House (2 x adults, 1 x teenager and 1 x dog), and the house was really well equipped. Plenty of space for us to relax, cook, eat together and have peace. Lovely welcome package-very nice touch! The Den was a big hit - playing pool and table football. The outside space is excellent - good seating areas if you want to eat out, bbq or relax in the sun.Plenty to do near by - we found a handy walk just across the road - to take the dog out each day, as well as nearby attractions - hill of Tara, Trim, Balrath woods, Navan. We ventured a little further to the beaches at Bettystown and Malahide as we had fabulous weather.I would highly recommend Decoy cottages and would definitely stay again.Thank you Decoy Cottages.
MoreWe enjoyed a wonderful 6 week stay in Decoy while work was carried out in our house. It really is a home from home and has everything you could possibly need for a family vacation. We stayed in the Forge and it had ample space for our family of 6. The outdoor space is wonderful and the children adored the trampoline, basketball and football spaces, playground and not forgetting the alpacas and chickens. We enjoyed a lovely BBQ in the communal outdoor eating area and enjoyed the beautifully planted gardens. The cottage is equipped with Voya products for the bathroom and environmentally friendly Ecover products in the kitchen. Having these all provided is a great bonus. The children also loved The Den game room. This is a wonderful space for older children too. Nothing is too much trouble for Paula and she is always on hand if anything is needed. Being from the wider Navan area I appreciate how convenient Decoy is to many many great days out, both family oriented and also historical sites. Truly you will not find a better standard of accommodation in the locality. We really loved our stay at Decoy and will take with us many fond memories. Our children were made so welcome and had an amazing time there. In fact my 3 year old is still asking daily about his " oliday ouse". Thank you Paula and all the team at Decoy.
MoreMy wife and I stayed at no.8 "the Parlour" for an extended period the accommodation was excellent we had no complaints the host Paula was very friendly and helpful. We would recommend Decoy as ideal self catering accommodation for families.
MoreWe spent 2 weeks here and enjoyed every minute. Its a real home-from-home - very well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, super sofas. Lots of little touches that make it such a pleasure to travel. Very convenient for tons of local sites. Lots for kids of all ages to do, and dog-friendly.
MoreWe recently stayed in the Stables at Decoy Cottage. This is our third visit and we continue to love Decoy. Each time we have stayed in a different cottage and each are beautiful in their own and different ways. Every detail is considered and nothing is too much trouble. There is space for the children to run around as well as a variety of animals to keep entertained. It is quiet and serves for a relaxing break. We thoroughly enjoy all our visits to Decoy and have no problem recommending Decoy.
MoreHad a most enjoyable stay for a week in the Hen House at Decoy Country Cottages. Great quality property; very comfortable and well fitted out. Paula was most helpful, and the guides for using the property and discovering the area were excellent.
MoreThis is the third time we have stayed at the cottages over the years, and love returning to them. Paula looks after us very well, and the cottages are well appointed. They are a bit of of town (Navanbut its quick to run into Johnstown to pick up groceries or have a sneaky jar.The chickens and alpacas out the back are very friendly!
MoreDecoy Country Cottages are lovely. We stayed in the tack room cottage which was luxurious, Very clean and relaxing. Lots for the kids to do with a games room, sand pit, tree house and swing. There is chickens, sheep and llamas. Would highly recommend staying here. The host is very friendly.
MoreDo not stay here. The decor is nice but the house is freezing and they put a block on the heating so you can’t turn it on. We had to use duvets just to stay warm. There is also no hot water in any of the cottages. We raised this issue during our stay and nothing was done. Just avoid the stress and stay elsewhere.
MoreWe had a beautiful, once in a lifetime trip to Ireland. It was romantic and inspirational and the Decoy Cottages were a huge part of it all. We thought the property was wonderfully maintained and we had all of our needs cared for including complementary eggs from chickens on site and fresh irish soda bread. There was a small leak that was taken care of the very next afternoon. We ran out of firewood the last night and there was not any left in the bin near the refuse but we managed. Everything else was perfect and idyllic. We loved all the little green energy efficiencies that the unit had and since we have returned to the states, we are trying to be much more energy-friendly and we mind how much power we consume, more so than before. The surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous, we explored castles and abbeys and fields and took ~2k pictures. Highly recommended.
MoreThe staff are lovely, not only are there so many things to do there (such as gym, game room, trampoline, bikes and a secret tree house!and in the area. Me and my family has went there twice and we loved it!
MoreWonderful accommodation. Close to so many places. Very clean. Very friendly and helpful. Contains everything you need. Very child friendly. Ticks all the boxes
