This place is big, even with the large number of people who visit you get a good sense of the emptiness. Except for the people who need to have loud conversations. The place could be awe-inspiring if not for the blabbermouths that ruin the vibe.

Spectacular! And beautiful!! The view from the tallest dune (the Big Daddyis amazing - its quite a climb up - take your time.Be sure to NOT touch the trees - theyll get destroyed. And if you think youre just one person who couldnt cause harm, then youre one of thousands who contribute to the damage. Lets please collectively preserve the Deadvlei.

Out of this world experience. Sliding down a massive dune was so much fun: it really ignited the child within. Make sure to bring water and hat as it gets scorching hot.

Fantastic venue for photos, a bit of a walk but the result was fantastic. We spent about 2 hours at Deadvlei and took about 1000 photos between 6 people. Toilet is only available at car parking.

Beautiful (but quite windyin the morning. One can easily go with their own 4x4, just lower the tire pressure. Otherwise the van is 180 Namibian Dollars per person and quite efficient. No need to go super early, it gets more impressive when the sun is out

It is out of this world amazing. Scenery one cannot see anywhere else in the world. Light makes a major difference, so make sure you be there for sunrise. A lot of folks also have this on their list so waking up early and driving to the site first is of importance to not have a crowded photo. It is a 20 min walk from the 2nd parking lot. If you do not have a 4x4, you can park at the 1st lot and the rangers will take you for a fee. It is a must see. An absolute must see.

One of the best hidden gems in the world...Easily accessible by car, the world’s highest sand dune is also within walking distance. This can be viewed in a single day as well.FYI just be careful driving in all the loose sand (we saw several people getting stuck in sand).

Was a great experience with a nice scenery..To enjoy this experience you must to the excursion in the morning when the sun is not too hot, or rather do it in the evening if you have enough time. Pictures are also likely to be excellent when taken in the mornings or evenings. But after all, we enjoyed the experience, I did the Big daddy dune hiking Im proud to say I was on top there..💪💪💪

Go really early (as the gates opento be there for sunrise and you will not regret it. If you don’t have a 4x4 you can pay N$180pp for them to take you (make sure you give yourself plenty of time before they come back to pick you up, 2 - 3 hrs). You can climb big daddy dune for spectacular views then run down it into the vlei to get sunrise photos.

Somber and eerie, yet strangely peaceful. Massive red sand dunes surround ancient dried husks of acacias, contrasting beautifully with the white clay landscape. Just... get ready for lots of people, and if you are not used to walking in deep, loose sand then you may want to do a few mild hikes before trekking the path. A must visit while in Namibia!

Absolutely beautiful and unlike any other place. Get there early to avoid crowds and heat. Youll have to park a ways away and pay for transport unless you have 4 wheel drive and want to brave the sand.

1.1 km hike from the car park to the vlei. Photos do not do it justice. Did it in mid day in January and wind kept temperatures below 34 degrees. Hike can be done easily just wear shoes to keep hot sand from burning feet etc and take some water. If you have a 4x4 you will easily do the drive. Let tyres down to 1.5 bar and you probably will get away with not even using 4x4. If you do not have a 4x4 there are guides who will take you with NWR 4x4s for a small fee.We did it in mid Jan and although temps do go up there is no moisture in the air therefore it is a manageable heat. Plus there is a prevailing wind to cool things down.Dont forget your camera!

Most popular place on photos from Namibia, and its obvious when you look at it. Combination of white soil, orange sand, blue sky and dark trees give out of this world feeling. Must see place. Last few kilometres of the road are for 4x4 only - sand, reduction gear and occasionally shovels might come in handy. From parking spot its 1,1km walk to Deadvlei.

A must visit. Please, please, for respect to the venue, future visitors and consevation, dont touch the trees, they are not fosilized and do erode. It really hurt to see how the visitors climed and touched the trees just to get a selfish selfie. There are signs that forbid to touch the trees, but some people seem to think it does not apply to them.

Amazing Landscape with dozens of dead trees that simply dont rot because of the climate. I definitely recommend to climb the big dune before descending into Dead Vlei. We did the climb in winter with very moderate temperatures. Climbing in summer should be done as early in the day as possible to avoid the heat.

Lovely picturesque location. Bring water, sunblock, a hat and your camera. If you dont want other tourists in your photo. Wait it out till about lunch time. Most people bail when it gets too hot.If you have a 4x4, you can drive right up to the parking 1km from deadvlei. Else youll have to do a 5km walk from the normal parking (not that difficult for a person with moderate fitness). You can also opt to get a lift with the NWR park vehicles. The do charge you N$170 for a round trip which is ridiculous for the distance in my opinion. The provincial road leading to sesriem is utter horse manure, drive a rental if you can. One would expect it to be in a much better shape considering the popularity of the location.

Super amazing place to visit. It is worth coming all the way to Namibia for this sight alone. I recommend setting out as early as possible, to arrive at deadvlei before the sun crests over the big dune to the east, as temperatures can rise above 40 in the summer. It takes about 60 minutes to drive from Sesriem to the 4x4 parking in sossusvlei, and another 20 minutes to hike to deadvlei.

Barren and dry area that is very interesting from a visual point of view since it comprises some of the tallest sand dunes. Weather is dry and hot so the best idea is to reach the park gate just after sunrise (the earliest you can actually enter the park if you are not a guest at sossuvlei lodge). You can spend more than two hours hiking up to Big Daddy’s peak, or else hike a smaller one. You can reach the popular and sometimes crowed deadvlei or try to reach the hiddenvlei, smaller but harder to access since it, on the contrary to Deadvlei does not have an exit and requires climbing down a dune to leave.

Wonderful mystical place. About a 15min walk from the 4x4 Parking over small sand dunes. Come here for sunset or sunrise and bring lots of water as it gets very hot in the sun. Great stop on the way back from the Big Daddy Sand Dune. Bring your camera!

Youre not allowed to touch the trees! Very touristic, everyone who enters Namib Naukluft National Park walks the short 1,1km from the parking spot to Dead Vlei and back through the sand. Make sure to bring shoes as a backup even if you plan on walking barefoot, because the sand can get very hot. Amazing location, but youll never be able to be there alone. For photography: Light is best in the early morning and late evening and worst at noon.

This is truly a special experience in my life. It is a must do. I wont ever forget it. Eerily beautiful, and captivating with the towering sand dunes in the background and 900 year old trees in the foreground that cannot decompose. Easily accessible and do-able in one day. If you plan on climbing big daddy be prepared. On a windy day the sand hits you like tiny hot bullets which was painful. Wear long pants or a shirt. And the sand can get into your eyes as well. But this was on a really windy day. Wear proper shoes as well, and socks that you will never use again.

Of the most magical and incredible places in Namibia and in the world. Its a pity you still find people who sit or rest on such old marvellous trees which is slowly disentegrating due to carless people.

Deadvlei is an area of Sossusvlei which includes the ancient remains of acacia trees which have been dead for over 600 years yet rest mostly undisturbed and well preserved due to the extremely dry climate in this area of the Namib-Naukluft Park in Namibia. Here you find a white clay pan surrounded by dunes on all sides. The pan is home to 50 or so tree skeletons some of which remain standing while others have fallen, centuries ago. In the distant past, this area was flooded at times when the nearby Tsauchab river had water, allowing for the acacia and camel thorn trees to grow. However, around 700 years go a drought occurred, followed by shifting sands which formed a new dune that blocked the water flow from the nearby river from entering the shallow pan ever again. The acacia trees with their deep roots would have survived for a while but eventually died out, providing what you can see today at this extraordinary location in Namibia.Note: Most visitors include a stop and climb at Dune 45 along the road between the Sesriem Gate and Sossulvlei where you find Deadvlei. The large groups then make way to Deadvlei. If you prefer to avoid the crowds, you can make your visit in the opposite direction, starting with Deadvlei first and then visiting Dune 45 later on.Note: There is a car park at the end of the Sossusvlei road. At this point there are 2-3 more kilometres of driving on very soft sand which requires 4 wheel drive and some driving experience in order to avoid becoming stuck. At the car park, there is free tractor pull shuttle service for those who prefer to leave their vehicles and not attempt the drive further into Sossusvlei to see Deadvlei.

Totally worth the visit. Very recommended to go early in the morning before sunrise (this is only possible if you stay in the campground that is in the park. They say they let you in 1 hour before other guests, but no one was Manning the entrance so you could pretty much do as you pleased and watch sunrise from the dune beside it and get some pictues with fewer tourists around. Then have breakfast or lunch at sossusvlei.

4X4 is needed but dont miss out on this when in the Sossusvlei area although try time it for close to sunset or sunrise for the best photos, you are also likely to be one of the only ones there then. A magical experience. Allow enough time to return to the park exit gates which takes around an hour.
