Contemporary trattoria fare & wines served amid homey, old-school furnishings in a family eatery.
The atmosphere was nice and staff was friendly, but the food was bland, something nearly impossible for italian. Not a hint of garlic and the chicken was overcooked on all of our plates. Also for the high price there was no bread served and half of a salad cost an extra $7.
I loved this place. I dined alone so I ate at the bar. It was moderate sized uncrowded and well appointed. The young bartender Conner made a cocktail beyond his apparent years and I had a Brooklyn style Italian dinner that would have been appreciated by most of my dyed in the wool italian relatives 😋. Great job! Great service!
Good pie. But Way to expensive for a 16 inch pie.
DePalmas was a favorite when I was in college. I try to eat here when Im visiting in town. Tonight did not disappoint. We brought our whole family. They easily accommodated our large party with same day reservation. The breadsticks are still the BEST. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered from ravioli, calzones, pasta with sauce to the margarita pizza. Our server was very good too! Thanks for a great dinner!
The cheese pizza kinda sucked I mean it was okay but there was way too much cheese (and I love cheeseand it was overly goey if that makes sense.
If you are expecting italian food please dont go to this place. Its a pizza place trying to make italian food. It was disgusting. The pesto stuffed mushrooms should have been called garlic stuffed. All the meals that came out were bland and tasteless. They literally messed up fettuccine Alfredo! No cheese was offered at all but badly needed. Dried up meat with stewed tomatoes on top and burnt cheese. Save yourself from a very expensive bad meal and do not go to this place! Yuk!
We had a large group in town for a conference. We booked a table well ahead of the date to make sure we could be seated together. We arrived and were immediately seated. Water was served right away and appetizer/bread/drink orders went in quickly. The service was great, and as always, the food was fantastic. The updated technology made it a breeze for each of us to pay our own checks. Thanks for helping our team to have a super evening out!
The menu is short but the food is good. This place does not have anything on the menu for vegans but if you ask they will make food for you.
Oh my, best food in Athens... I enjoyed my pasta and the staff were so good and friendly. They recommend the best to you ... No issue at all..
Service is very slow. Food is as flavorful as cafeteria food. I do not recommend this place unless you like slow service and bland food for a high price.
Downtown Athens must eat place. Location on East side of Athens is much smaller but still great food. Large bar area. Some wonderfull pizzas. Large dark wood booths. Wine bottles everywhere for a quiet date-night vibe.....and Im told they take reservations on game day weekends. Pasta De Palmas is my wifes fav dish. Highly recommended!!
Honestly, everything we got was good but the highlights of my dinner were the mascarpone filled-ravioli with artichoke and the Zuppa Inglese. Definitely worth a try if you like Italian food
Waited a long time to be sat and then watched employees walk by over and over with no drink taken or even acknowledgement of our presence. Food was okay but due to slow, lackadaisical service an extra 15-20 minutes was added to a 60 minute lunch. The time was about 1pm on a Wednesday and they were not busy.
I usually go to the ones on the East side or West side, but De Palmas is the best! It’s an Athens staple! From the. Bread with oil and vinegar to start to their famous specialty pizza with chicken and pineapple, to friendly servers and staff, De Palmas is that hometown Italian joint every city deserves. Keep up the great work!
Looks like. Nice restaurant to sit and eat at but I dont suggest the takeout. I was running an errand closeby and decided to get a to go order. I ordered chicken parm for myself and my fiancee had vegetable lasagna. They were both child size portions especially the lasagna. The top was burnt and middle wasnt cooked all the way. The chicken parm was burnt on outside and chicken was dry. Definately overcooked. To top it off I had angel hair pasta with like 5 chunks of tomato and no sauce....I could have cooked it better black out drunk. Waste of 40 bucks!
Atmosphere was ok I liked all the old art it would be cool if they had jazz or classical or some other type of music . My food was ok the wine selection was good , I enjoyed my time there . The environment is the best thing about this place. Service was good , and again the environment was cool.
We ate dinner here at the bar. No wait, friendly staff. Homemade lasagna was delicious. Really light and tasty. Not heavy at all. Pizza was cooked really well, crunchy crust and fresh toppings.
The atmosphere was very pleasant and the workers were very kind. The food was good I was very surprised to see the huge slab of eggplant for my dish but it was very tasty. I do wish there was a bit more noodles because of how good it tasted but this is Definitely a place Id like to come back to.
This place was an overall bad experience. It took a little more than an hour for us to get our food and when it did get there it was mediocre at best. I understand that they are under-staffed, which explains the wait but not the terrible food. And none of the staff were wearing masks. Not even the ones in the kitchen. So I probably wont go here again, the fish tasted like water, the kale was chewy and tasted like steak, and the ravioli was just gross. Im only giving it more than a one because the pizza was alright, not good, but alright.
This was the second time my husband and I tried DePalmas. First time at this location. Not coming back. For the price, the portions and food quality is ridiculous. The only reason for 2 stars instead of one is bc my chicken was actually pretty good - the noodles, not so much (I got the chicken parm with spicy sauce). The noodles were cold and the sauce had almost no flavor. I had to add salt for it to taste decent and the sauce was also way too spicy to enjoy (I love spicy food, but the spice in the sauce was overpowering for the meal).I initially wanted the pasta dinner since it came with a side salad, but, to simply add chicken (or any proteincost $7+ which would make it even more expensive than the seafood dishes! Ridiculous! So I opted for the chicken parm. The service was just ok. The restaurant was nearly empty, but we still waited about 10 min before being seated and no one really acknowledged us. Our waitress was kind enough, but, wasn’t really attentive or professional. Their menu options are so limited and just not worth it for the price.
The goat cheese ravioli is absolutely to die for! This was a great date night spot. Everything I had was absolutely amazing!
Worst Italian food I’ve ever had. The pesto I had tasted both musty and soapy, and as someone who has been to Italy, I can assure you this was anything but authentic. My partner got the chicken marinara which was over cooked and rubbery, with a sauce that was hardly cooked and looked straight of of the can. They couldn’t even bother to make the meal hot. On top of that all that their homemade focaccia came out burnt and resembling cornbread more that anything. For a $50 meal I truly expected more and was thoroughly disappointed and disgusted. I couldn’t even finish my meal. I recommend going to target down the street and getting a frozen meal instead. It would taste better and save you the $50. If I could give less than one star I would.
Enjoyed some good Italian food. Service was not the best
My food was very delicious! I had the Fettuccine de Parma, the sauce was very good and flavored and the pancetta and peas were fresh and added great flavor to it as well. Our service, though, was very slow and unattentive. We also sat by the bathroom, which probably didnt help. It may have been really busy on a Sunday or something but Im giving it 4 stars for the food and decor in our section alone.
Food was awesome! Everyone loved the cheese breadsticks!! Atmosphere was great. Definitely will be back! We even took some breadsticks home for us and a friend.
I was only in Athens for one evening just to check out the city, and this was the perfect place to go to. I loved the food and atmosphere, and the waitress was so nice. The menu was great - lots of options that I dont see at other Italian restaurants. I really hope to go back one day.
Absolutely love the chicken Alfredo. I do feel there prices are to high for the potions that you get . Great customer service. Need to update the location on Google maps bc it does take u around in circles if you are traveling u might get aggravated with this. I spent $ 32 on one meal although I did get a side of shrimp. Overall it was delicious and the best ceaser salad Ive ever had.
Wonderful restaurant. Our grandson and I had lasagna, made with wild mushrooms. Never had anything so tasty. Also came with choice of salad and drink. $11.99. My husband ordered Chicken Parmesan. Another excellent choice, too much for him to finish. We also ordered large pepperoni pizza for Grandsons roommates. Less than $50for all.
I hosted a casual business dinner at DePalmas and was very satisfied with the experience. The private room is ideal for a group up to about fifteen. The service was perfectly balanced between attending our needs and allowing our business discussions to proceed with minimal interruption. The food is good and the wine list offers good variety. Overall it was a very good experience.
Great restaurant. We did not realize how spacious this restaurant is. Pizza is great. Service is great: I travel from Colorado: I expect to have a large pizza, but it is a GRANDE Italian pizza.
All we had was a cheese pizza. It was very good but sauce was a bit red pepper hot for our mild taste. It was good enough that we would return to try other menu items.
I frequent this restaurant when I’m in town for business and they just do not miss. I have extreme dietary restrictions (allergic to wheat, corn and soy productsand every time I come to DePalma’s they are more than kind and welcoming to accommodate me. Excellent restaurant with wonderful and accommodating service.
Do not go here! They made a mistake and lied instead of fixing it.I am a strict vegetarian, and they brought us a pizza with pepperoni by mistake. The restaurant was nearly empty at the time. We told them of their mistake, and they said they’d make us a new pizza. I confirmed with them once or twice that it wasn’t just the same pizza with the pepperoni taken off. But the “new” pizza was surprisingly quick to come out and not as hot as a fresh pizza. The waitress promised that it was a new pizza, so we trusted her. But sure enough, we found a couple pieces of pepperoni still on the pizza. They did end up not charging us for the pizza.I know not everyone has the same dietary concerns as I do. But the waitress told us point blank that they would make a new pizza, and again that they had done so. I could live with a place that refused to bake a new pizza. But don’t lie to your customers.
Initially service was quite attentive and personable. As the time continued, however, less and less attention was being paid to our table. The entrees took an excessive amount of time to be presented, we were sitting for over 20 minutes after everyone finished their salads. One a positive note, the appetizers, salads, entrees and even dessert was very delicious!
SO GOOD! I got the the tortelloni with chicken sausage and it was seriously amazing. My boyfriend got the pasta del palma which was tasty, but the rosemary flavor was quite strong so it might not be for everyone. We also got a half order of the meatball onion breadsticks and they were to die for and a good size for an appetizer. Our waitress was really nice as well, I wish I caught her name. I cant wait to come back.
This is a place i do not seeing myself going to again. I payed $50 for 2 very small dishes and the flavor was very subpar. My girlfriend’s dish was very cold and had to be reheated. I ordered a calzone that was very hard and had probably 3 times more bread than toppings. The service was the only redeeming quality but again, don’t waste your money here because the food is not good at all. I wouldn’t even compare this to an olive garden.
One of our favorite places for over 20 yrs!You wont be disappointed!
This is a decent restaurants, I ordered their Calzone and its really large and the cheese is really good, but toppings are a bit overpriced. The pasta was also delicious. Overall I would rate it 4.5 stars because of the price.
Sunday evening, our guests who have driven up from Miami to escape the predicted landfall of Hurricane Dorian, wanted to take us out to dinner. We decided to go to one of Athens most reliably good restaurants and we were not disappointed. Our waitress was upbeat and personable. One of us relished the lasagna special of the night, and I enjoyed my favorite dish there, Chicken Scaloppini. The two ladies split an Apple Walnut salad and Pesto, Chicken & Feta pizza. Everyone was delighted by the cuisine, and while I served as the designated driver, my friend and our guests enjoyed the wine selection. Needless to say, we had leftovers to take home. I cant recall a time when DePalmas on Timothy Road has disappointed us. The other locations are good too.
The food at lunch today was great, but the kitchen was unbelievably slow. Our full party (4sat around 12:15, we ordered around 12:30, and we didnt get our food until after 1. One guy asked for it to go because he had to leave, and it still didnt come out before he had to go, so someone took it to him. Not sure what was going on today, but it doesnt seem like 6 slices of pizza and a calzone should take that long.
Great wine list, delicious food. Be sure to start with the breadsticks, yum. Charmaine sauce and tortelloni with chicken sausage are a must.
We decided to try this restaurant to get a taste of local Athens food, while we were visiting. The Restaurant was fairly empty however there was a really long wait for our food. The bread was terrible, the sauce was bitter, and the food was even worse. This was a terrible experience after such a long wait. I asked for my bill shortly after tasting the food, I wasn’t asked if there was a problem or if I wanted a to go box. I think they know the quality of the food is not up to par. My son who like everything and gives everyone a pass said it was a bad experience
With three locations in Athens we rarely go to the downtown De Palmas.Tonight was a disappointment. With four young men in the kitchen, wearing ball caps and tshirts, it appears they are not trained in the art of food preparation. None of the appetizers or entrees that were served to us or that we could see had any garnishes.I was served a plate of pasta with sauce.Simple.Asking for some cheese to go with the bread and oil appetizer and the nice waitress brought fresh grated mozzarella, not typical parmesan.De Palmas is an upscale restaurant, or always has been. When one of the young men from the kitchen walked by we could see his badly stained t shirt. What? No aprons? But the taste of the food was good, and the waitress was pleasant. After this visit I would prefer to return to one of the other locations.
Nice place. Food is overpriced for the quality and portion size. A medium specialty pizza was $22 and it probably had 2 ounces of chicken on it. Literally like 15 little cubes. Crust was tough as well. Nothing real special about the pasta either. Family got the shrimp scampi. 5 shrimp, $2 worth of sauce and pasta for $20 after tax. Honestly ridiculous.
Was ok.Service was great, atmosphere was perfect for the group of 12. Food was, well...what one might expect in a typical college town, not Athens. Bread sticks were a big hit! Pizza had quite a bit of oil,but tasted great.Pesto pasta came out in a clump. Calzone had so much cheese it was crazy. Tried the short rib ravioli... vegetables and sauce werent hot and the ravioli was sort of sauteed/fried which gave texture but also made it chewy. I had to add salt for some flavor 🙄
The food was AMAZING. They by far have the best Ceser Salad EVER! Their selection of drinks is so good!!!! Portions are big & filling... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...
Convenient to campus, food good with varied seating areas.
Such a pleasant environment, great staff, and waitress. The food, I had the Vegetable Lasagna, all fresh ingredients baked perfectly, and such great flavor. The best I have ever had! I would love to learn how to cook like that. My friends and I plan on coming back from North Florida next year.
Pricey but very good. Our service has always been decent. When theyre slammed busy it can get slow, but just understand and expect that.
The atmosphere in here is atypical Italian cuisine. Very family friendly. I came on a Tuesday night and was immediately seated and waited on. The food was good. It wasnt awesome, or worth letting everyone know about it, but it was not disappointing. The drinks on tap were limited but good. Overall it was good and I would come back.
