Chic bistro & bar featuring modern NZ fare in the airy, art-filled atrium of Hotel DeBrett.
The dining area is small and cosy and there’s a lovely waiting area. If you want a quiet meal with lovely service and good food then I highly recommend this place. The adjacent bar is also highly recommended
So very nice room and the spot is nice in downtown. Some employee are very kind and some employee charge you 20 cent to print one paper. Come on !!! When you see the price of the night.....
Love the ambiance here!!! Good service and food. Its a great place for a drink with friends or an intimate drink in the bar lounge area. Colleagues and I tend to go here for cocktails in the evening. Cocktail menu could be more extensive. Would love to see a decaf espresso martini on the menu and sweeter cocktails. The Corner Bar (corner of Shortland and High Streetsis another option for drinks with small eats.
We came here for high tea and it was ga fantastic. We will come again for sure.
Came for restaurant month $40 entrée and mains, left disappointed after waiting for mains for over 35 minutes & being served later than customers that ordered after us.The lamb and fish were both overcooked, vegetables were boiled and flavourless, and black rice was as gummy as rubber. The only saving grace was the scallops which were sweet and soft. Its known that hotel restaurants are either a hit or miss - youre definitely saving some money by going elsewhere.
I never complain or review meals but was so extremely disappointed with our meal that I am! We got the square meal for lunch. Ravioli and rice were undercooked. Veges were cold. Entire meal quite tasteless and not seasoned at all. Only good thing about the meal was the glass of wine 😔
I found this resturant relaxing and informal while offering a quality service and attentive staff. The food was well prepared, presented and well portioned and served inna timely manner. Very enjoyable and recommended
Music was great, nice and peaceful. Serving skills a little rusty but all and all it was enjoyed.
tasty! But portions are very small. and it is not fine dining so dont get bang for your buck
So good, the tenderest steak Ive ever had
The drinks were top class and the food was very good. Food and drinks were presented well and we enjoyed the High Tea. However I do think that when two tables are put together for three people they should align and the tables were of different heights so that the dishes did not sit smoothly on the table . This was rather offputting. For a High Tea I would expect better furniture and not to have to be careful where dishes were placed.
Although the food was very good & graciously priced - the photos provided on google do not match the atmosphere of the restaurant. It gives more of a 50s motel vibe with lots of carpet and not much natural light. Was slightly dissapointted, would not return.
What a gem. Amazing value for money 20$ for a hot dish with coffee beautiful ambiance and good service. I had the French toast and it was a delight exactly what I needed. Will defylinitely comeback
Superb vibes & architecture, quality of food and service from friendly staff. An experience like no other; definitely worth a visit. Breakfast was sublime.
Lived up to expectations in all areas, ambience, service and presentation and quality of food
Wonderful meal. The prawn salsa and pork belly entrées were fantastic. The lamb and chicken mains were perfectly cooked and delicious!
Great High Tea at DeBretts. Delicious bite size savoury and sweet treats.A beautiful little cocktail complimented the selection.Good selection of tea, and they do a bloody good coffee too.
Debretts do a vegan hightea!! Their presentation and taste is always 10/10!!
Took my family for my birthday to the 1920s high tea. It was beautiful and the Bees Knees cocktail and sweet and savoury treats were lovely. Staff were great although I had expected them to be in the 1920s theme... It just lacked a little something in the atmosphere.
This was a very nice experience. Due to covid the prices didn’t seem extremely exorbitant which most places r doing.20$ for any breakfast with a free plunger coffee or juice.Certainly worth coming..We had the full brekkie, egg shashoka, Eggs Benedict and a fresh corssiant. All highly recommended. Total bill 80$ with extra coffee n tea. Will visit again..
Lovely evening meal. Lovely surrounds very few people given we are in Red.All was cooked & presented beautifully and very yummy.
Posh English breakfast was not even mediocre. Burnt bacon, driest bread ever, underdone eggs and a warm frankfurter. I was the only person waiting for food and it took 30mins. They need to get it together and taste a proper English breakfast.
Hightea was Scrumptious and delicious and presentation was absolutely 💯 👌 Food was so so good, they need more savory on the platter. The service was ok👍
The high tea was brilliant. Everything was marvellous indeed. Highly recommended!
Really good breakfast, everyone in the family loved the food. Atmosphere was very nice too in their atrium setting. Planning on going again
We had steak and Mediterranean lamb for dinner here. Portions are on the smaller side but it was enough. Great service and reasonable prices. Bar for drinks after dinner was great too, beautiful interior, cozy and welcoming.
Roaring 20s High Tea booked for a small bridal do. Servings were a little on the small side and underwhelming in presentation. Recommend going after a meal as its more on the lighter side. Delightful cocktails and a cute setting.
Shaksuka wasnt Shaksuka at all. Two poached eggs on indian spiced and very spicy tomato base!!!!! Could not eat it. Very nice and helpful waitress tried everything to help. Lovely environment and decaf espresso though.
Lovely ambience, the first round of chips under cooked. We were going to a theater show so only had a starter as pushed for time. The two dishes were excellent the portions were very small. I received a complimentary same dish.
Best value breakfast around!! Could not believe what we got for the money!! We could not finish our plate and it was not for lack of trying. Delicious full breakfast that included a glass of my favourite orange juice; tasted like it had just been squeezed. Love the setting too. We will definitely be back.
Ordered eggs benedict. It was fantastic. I wanted to lick my plate clean... but didnt because its a very classy establishment. The coffee was excellent. I couldnt fault the meal. The service was outstanding. Very professional and helpful staff.
Quite hidden away in terms of location, but is definitely a place to visit. The menu has a set entree, main, dessert layout. It doesnt have a huge menu but everything on the menu is made to a high standard. Staff were friendly and had a positive energy, and the food exceeded my expectations. If you want to see something different, order the flower bubble cocktail.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner this ecening. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. We could talk easily, not disturbed by loud music. I would recommend and return. Thank you.
Beautiful food and service, very timely and the flavours were phenomenal
Amazing place! Great staff and the best service ever. Had a birthday lunch there, and it was an absolute delight! Would love to be back for wine & cheese pairing. Lovely atmosphere, very stylish place. Highly recommend. 👌👍
Lovely casual dinner venue with delicious food in the heart of Auckland CBD and accessible both from High and OConnell Streets. Price is very reasonable and worth to be priced higher with the good quality. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and very friendly, competent service. My wife and I enjoyed a 3 course menu and drinks for about 136 NZD, which I consider more than fair for the quality. I highly recommend the Filet mignon. Don‘t miss out on this place!
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Great venue for work lunch.
Wonderful dinner. We had beef, daily fish and lamb. All are delicious. The sides of the fish was stunning.
This is a lovely place to have dinner. The space is beautifully looked after in a kind of modern art deco design. The staff are very friendly and personable, they make sure to ask you how your meal is going through out the night. They do proper napkin placement and serve complimentary bread and butter.I like that they have a small menu, which they can adapt to any food allergy. I am a coeliac and they had no issue with making it gluten free at all. In fact, they even asked over the phone when I was reserving a table if there were any dietary restrictions, you dont often get that. The food was delicious, my only regret is not taking a picture of it to share with you. Flavours are well balanced and generous portion sizes at great price points. They have a very good drinks menu - many different cocktails and a variety of wines and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.Overall, one of the nicest dining experiences that Ive had in a while.I like visiting there earlier in the week when it isnt super super busy, much more of a boutique feel.
Came to Debretts kitchen for a corporate lunch. The food, although a little pricey, is good. The key positives would have to be the really nice atrium like restaurant area (upstairs up off the street from high streetand the great service. I would also recommend coming for a drink at the bar area, as they have a nice little seated area.
Delicious entree of roast pork with tangy coleslaw, grilled king fish was nicely done but the beef was a tad overdone.
Went here for dinner for a celebration with 8 people. While the main seating area is cool, with the high ceilings and fireplace, the table we were sat at (right next to the kitchenwas not cool. The tables & the decor inside looked very dated, the kitchen was very loud, the meals were disappointing (the salads had far too much dressing on them, yet they tasted bland). Service could’ve been better, and after paying for dinner we had to wait a long time for our coats because it seemed like every server just disappeared. The bathrooms had very cheap hand wash & also looked very dated. Well overdue a renovation.
Love this place its gorgeous inside and it has a great feeling attentive staff and the food was outstanding as were the cocktails ,was my first time here i will definately return.
I ventured into the heritage restored Hotel DeBrett to experience their Roaring 20’s High Tea Experience in DeBrett Kitchen. Whilst reservations are required, fortunately I was able to a seating. I was immediately impressed by the super attentive hospitable staff, not to mention, being completely taken aback the splendid and grandeur of the spectacular restaurant interior reminiscent of Great Gatsby-esque opulence.High Tea commenced with a refreshing elderflower cucumber cocktail called “Easy St” and in a short while the tiered food stand came out adorned with sweets and savouries. Portions featured cucumber sandwich, salmon pinwheel, prawn melon with the devilled egg and the coronation chicken being stand outs. For the sweet offerings there was champagne Knox dainties, jaffa mousse tart with the impressive sweets being the passion fruit lamington, strawberry Pavlova and the coconut panacotta. Finally, freshly baked lemonade scones with plum jam and clotted cream finished the experience in a truly elevated and memorable fashion. The ambiance of lunching to the sultry melodic tones of golden age divas only amplified the experience of gourmet fare, location and atmosphere. Highly recommended with distinction!
Tried high tea. Not bad but don’t think will go again. Sandwich had no taste, cocktail was good, Cup cake was not so good, too sour. Service was good.
Service was really poor. The meals were average. The desserts were good however.
Been here a few times .. my partners fav place to stay for his birthday, so diner and breakfast when we stay...great food, great service...fantastic Elderflower Martinis too
Fantastic place to have a great dinner. Great staff, great food in a nice location.
Rating based on a single visit for dessert. Prior seating we were already reminded 3 times about the kitchen closing soon (in a friendly but kind of awkward way). Ordered all 4 of the available desserts. Dessert served with a strange comment from the waiter regarding the high amount of calories (maybe a joke not told right?). Dessert presentation overall good but tasted mediocre. On the upside, the bartender had fantastic service so we left on a good note.
