This restaurant was so much fun to have lunch at. Delicious burger & milkshake options. They also have a vegetarian burger ok the menu👌🏼And with each meal you get a ticket for free ice-cream cone with sprinkles. We enjoyed the outdoor seating (comes with live entertainment), the weather was just perfect. Love the logo!!! 🍔🍟🍦

Nice position. Friendly and kind staff. Food is very good except the chip oil was close to upgrade date. Ambiance is towards lively not soft and relax. Which is fine I think primary mark is lively.

Visited them at previous locationand was nice. Today the chips were oily and defnitely not fresh. Patty is flavourless. Not sure if I have the desire to visit again.

Burger was fine, but expensive. I do feel that the service was bad and they had a lot of rules... Im not allowed to get a straw, youre not allowed this, youre not allowed that... They also did not get our order correct. Oh and the onion rings needed salt.Free ice cream is nice, but it was not good ice cream.

A fresh new burger joint. In my mind one of the top 5 burgers in Stellenbosch. A fresh bun with a great beef Patti, meat, cheese and you have an amazingly tasting burger. I will be back. This is also a pet friendly restaurant.

Very slow service. We waited almost an hour for our food. There were other customers that came after us and got their food before us. I understand when a place is busy but serving customers in an incorrect order is not a good look. I was hoping that the burger would be the serving grace in us waiting so long but the patty was not seasoned and there wasn’t much that stood out from the burger. Not sure if that’s because it was rushed due to the madness in the kitchen. I definitely think Die Vrije Burger can do a lot better

Horrible. They have 2 items on menu; a burger and a veggie burger. The veggie burger was sold out. How can you be sold out at 6pm if you only have 2 items on the menu?!

Food is of fantastic quality! Service is absolutely shocking! We waited for 10 min at the pay point waiting to order and pay for drinks, and still weren’t served even after asking staff to help us. Staff didn’t indicate when we will be served, or for us just to hold out. So decided to leave and so did quite a few customers behind us. This isnt the first time its happened either.Truly sad.

Walked in here as they opened to order a quick lunch. The menu only has a few items on, which I like.The lady behind the counter was friendly but could not accommodate my gluten intolerance. I understand that not all restaurants have gluten-free buns, but she said they dont serve their burgers without buns either. Then offered me onion rings, which lead me to believe she doesnt really understand dietary restrictions.Which left me with only chips to eat. I was taken back by how unwilling they were to accommodate me and even prepared to lose a sale. Still trying to figure out whether this relentless pursuit of branding is a good or bad thing.After this I heard the owner speak to her about our engagement but neither him nor her came to speak to me again or offer me a potential meal.My wife had a burger which she enjoyed a lot, however the "BBQ dusted" chips were rather average. My large portion of chips had a lot of very small over fried chips in too.All things considered, the food was good. But no fireworks. I expected more.

Excellent burgers - three burgers on the menu, plus chips, and they do them well. Delicious buns, big patties, and complimentary soft-serve ice cream. When you do one thing and do it well, you get a vrije burger. Great place to get lunch or go for a date in Stellenbosch. Highly recommended.

The burger patty meat has great flavor itself, then its topped with all other goodness. Its a big boy of a burger, use the paper to handle as things will get messy but theres a basin to wash up after. Chips had soft inner and crispy outer to a deep golden yumness. Burgers can be done medium to well if preference. Bonus is the included soft serve, yes please Im coming back! Indoor and outside seating and can host groups. Interesting is he serves the red wine chilled. Go for it!

Incredible burgers and chips. The portions are very big and with each burger bought you receive a free soft serve ice cream. The new venue is also very nice with tables under the oak trees.

What a gem of a find! The older you get, the more you move away from quantity and towards quality. Well the De Vrije Burger covers both, and in heaps. The burgers were just the right size, super juicy and lots of flavour. Will definitely be making a trip to Stellenbosch for this treat.

Such an experience. The staff is very friendly and well versed with their menu. It was my first visit and they went out of their way to explain how it works. Food was fabulous. Try the Bennie Griessel !

Beautiful burger spot. Clean wooden and white/blue decor. Stick with the meat burger choices. They are excellent. I had the falafel veg burger, bit too greasy.

Been wanting to go here for a while, and the burger and tjips was worth it. Dont expect fast food prices, so see this as a outing (R125 for the burger combo). You can also grab a beer which is a nice extra, but quite on the expensive side for a bottle (R40), even though its Barton Bassons own beer, rather give me a pint for that price. Would like more standard seating on the inside, especially on a cold winter day. Cant wait to go back to grab my free ice cream, free one with every burger.

Wow! Best burger I have ever had & the cheesy chips are just to die for! Love the simple but impactful styling of the restaurant & the staff are very friendly. Cant believe I waited this long to try the place out, will definitely be back on the regular.

High end burger take-away restaurant. You order you burger at the counter and pick it up when ready. The burgers are really really nice and you also get a free soft serve with your order. The chips are not that great, so I would skip the chips. Very fast service And friendly staff! Recommended if you want a quick meal that is good quality with no fancy frills.

This is probably the best burger I’ve ever had and this is coming from a culinary student. I 100% recommend you come and eat here! The team at de vrije burger are doing amazing here, great job! I will definitely be coming back!

The burger was amazing. Patty was cooked well and the flavours mixed well. I cant recommend the chips though, they were very oily and not up to par considering how good the burger was. This is also less of a restaurant and more of a fancy fast food shop. Have to order your food at the counter, you receive a buzzer and have to go fetch it when its ready.You do receive a free soft serve with your burger which is nice though.If you want an amazing burger, this is the place. For everything else, rather look elsewhere.

A great takeaway spot, with massive burgers and delicious fries. A few seats available inside and a few outside. One of the best grab and go burgers Ive had in SA. Just a word of warning though the burgers are LARGE!!

My wife says it’s “the best burger” she’s ever eaten and I can’t really argue. We had the chilli sauce on one and biltong on the other. Both were exceptional but I’d have the chilli one again - everyday if my health could afford it. The meat is a great texture (not too ground or mealyand the toppings all fresh. Good wine selection as you’d expect.
