466 Mount Eden Rd, Mount Eden, Auckland 1024, New Zealand, Auckland
Relaxed tavern offering a wide range of Belgian beers & bistro eats from mussels to hearty mains.
5 stars for this place. Visited late Sunday arvo. Live acoustic music was unreal. Mussels were tasty. Beer available. Service was friendly and they let us borrow their phone for an emergency. 11/10 would return.
Good food, great range of beer, always a good night out
As soon as it gets busy(such as if theres a game on or some big eventits like everything falls apart. Waiting 2hours and 45 minutes for a chicken schnitzel..The beer is good tho...
Menu looked good so I decided to try it out. Its a nice pub atmosphere, but the service was awful. Ordered food and drink at the bar, pointed to where we were seated, and was told that theyd have to get one of the drinks from downstairs. 15 min later, no drink.I told the guy at the bar that we were waiting on a drink for some time, and he just responds "yeah, that drink comes from the downstairs bar". I know, but it shouldnt take 15 min to pour a beer and bring it upstairs. 10 more minutes pass and the lady who took our order said "Im sorry, did you order food?" "Uhh yes" "What was it again?"Unbelievable. Food finally arrives after more waiting. Definitely not worth the wait. Cheap coleslaw and soggy chips. The fish was fine, but nothing great. Also, as we received our food they told another table that they were out of burgers and mussels (over half the menu pretty much). This was also after that table had been ignored for quite some time as well. I get that a lot of places are short staffed, but they seemed to have quite a few people working and it wasnt even packed. Very disappointing overall.
Im a dark beer junky and this is the place for an awesome drop. This is my must visit place every time I am in town. The staff are friendly. The food matches the beer perfectly. The atmosphere is great.Did I earn my free beer for this review? But seriously, great beer.
Real average burgers, barely any flavour. The mussels were disgusting. Had several crabs in each mussel and when I asked the staff if they clean their mussels she responded with “oh that’s normal”… no it it’s, it’s lazy. You’re meant to purge and soak the mussels so I’m not biting on small crabs.Wouldn’t go there again
Just had the worst burger. A dry tough meat pattie that had the life cooked out of it. Brown lettuce leaves. Kitchen needs a rocket. Otherwise its a good pub.
Second time visiting here and the food is still amazing. The best cooked steak Ive had in ages.My daughter had the pie and mash and we shared the sticky date pudding. Soooooo yummy. 😋Tasty cocktails too!
Great Belgian restaurant and pub. Their grilled mussels were exceptional, tastes fresh and juicy. Not to mention the Belgian beers that they have. I bottomed up my glass before I remember to take a photo of it.
Love this place. Love the variety of beers. Love the menu especially the pots of mussels.
Always a great place to eat and drink. Will definitely back for tge Sunday roast meal . Live music was a pleasure.
Food was great fish burger with chips very filling and tastes delicious. Staff was exceptional very friendly and had a good sense of humor. environment was lovely, good music and lighting had a great time! Edit:also everything arrived very quickly
Nice night - was looking forward to the muscles, which were not available, which was disappointing. Had a very simple Rump Steak and Salad, nice but not exceptional
Food and beer was good.Had the Pie and chips which was actually much better than expected (sometimes you cant be sure with pub piesand very tasty and a pretty solid portion too.Staff attentive and a great atmosphere
We happen to be visiting Mt Eden on a Monday and walked by De Posts sign for 1/2 price Mussel Mondays. We didnt think twice about it and quickly found ourselves sitting down with a bunch of locals. We ordered 1kg of mussels each (moules frites actuallyand enjoyed every bite of them. My husband had added the curry flavor and I added the white wine and garlic flavor.
Ordered the rump steak with mushroom sauce two nights in a row. Came out quick and reasonably priced especially on a Tues. They also do a great lemon lime and bitters. Nice atmosphere, not too rowdy.
Great place to spend time with friends and family. We had the Tuesday special which was steak and fries and excellent value for money. The atmosphere is cosy and authentic, The staff was very friendly and food was delivered swiftly. The fries were delicious, the salad dressing yum, the steak was flavourful but chewy, and the mushroom sauce was creamy and scrumptious. They have a special on every weeknight, and I’ll definitely be going back to try out more! There are rooms for hire, but we didn’t check it out. If the downstairs decor is anything to go by, I’d say it’s worth considering. Coming from the Netherlands, this place felt like a lovely slice of home, with the BEST Mayo!
Check their regular deals like $15 steak on Tuesdays and burgers on Wednesday. Compliment your meal with the best Belgian beers available and you got yourself a deal!
Great beer. Was good as this place had lots of tables
So disappointed in the mussels. Ordred 2kg - They were meant to be steamed in a broth then soaked in a garlic/cream sauce and a curry/lemongrass sauce. No broth in sight. Both sauces were more like a mayo with spices added. No hint of curry nor lemongrass - more like mayo with chili. The vegans with us were reduced to fries cos they had no vegan bread for the vegan burger - the only v option on the menu. The staff were lovely but the food sux
Wednesday night is $15 burger night!! Massive burgers and really tasty!! We got the fish burger and the beef burger. Only downside is that the table was dirty and we had to ask for some water for the table.
(Both tasted and reviewed on 25 May 2022)I had the Plant-Powered burger (Veganand the Belgian-style waffle (Death with Chocolate flavourfor dinner. The burger was delicious as I thought the burger patty tasted almost like a real pork or a real beef patty option. The Vegan mayo was a bit bitter though, so I think this can be resolved by reducing the amount of vinegar added into the Vegan mayo. However, that wasnt much to think about as what wowed me even more was the Chocolate Belgian-style waffle. It had a sweet and tantalising flavour. Would love to come here again, especially for the waffle!
Great beers but not sure about foods…
Staff.are nice and atmosphere is good.I had the steak special which was lovely with mushroom sauce. Wife had the chicken wings which were good but nibbles not wings. 2 kids had the chicken burgers which were standard. And the third kid had the fish and chips and the fish smelt old and tasted dry. Left 2nd piece behind even though he was hungry. Made mention to staff and they were going to pass the info back to the kitchen.Beer was lovely. Some of the choices on the menu were cancelled because on no stock. Some of the drink choices were unavailable.Would go again for afternoon drink and bar snacks. Wont go back for dinner for a while because food experience was average.
Bar staff and beer selection are awesome. Food is super disappointing. Steak was ordered, I requested medium rare. Unfortunately, it arrived, overdone, dry and taste less. Dont waste your time on food. Only attend for beers.
Platter wasnt that great. Felt very rushed to order then was rushed at the end. Was told last drinks at 9:50pm when website said that close at 11:30pm. timing is why we decided to go there. Wasnt asked if we wanted desserts or how everything was when paying. Other people were still drinking and people were turned back at around 10:00pm. Looking at other reviews it seems to be a nice place but we might have come on the wrong night.
Not a good experience there tonight. It didnt seem busy but had to help ourselves to menus, our drinks took a long time to come out and I didnt even get my drink in the end so I asked for water instead and didnt get that either so had to go downstairs and get at the bar. I got the chicken burger, definitely wouldnt recommend. Very thin slice of chicken, cheap coleslaw and bread was stale. Overall, bad experience and wouldnt go back. 😕
What a great deal. 50% off mussels on Monday. My new go to place. Great dinner, specially on a Monday when the week started and is already a hassle. You dont want to cook, just eat lots and go home with 0 dishes. Def going again.
Updated 15/04/22: gave them 1 star 3 weeks ago, but they have listened to the feedback from my post and direct contact and lifted the game today...while the usual manager was absent. Better respect shown to us and their own standards.Below was a post 4 weeks ago:Losing the standards when the manager is not rostered.
Love the vibe here food delivery was so quick , Customer Service was on point . Will be back
Fantastic place to grab a nice Belgian beer and some great food. Staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is awesome. There is both indoor and outdoor seating.
Muscles couldve been better otherwise a great time, wine & is normally a 5☆ meal.
Firstly to point out their clear details to protect their customers from covid thank you. We went there to drink the amazing cherry beer which was amazing. The food was also the typical pub you expect and very filling at a responsible price. Customer service A+. Definitely will be coming back.
Always a good time coming here to De Post in Mt Eden, this time we went for Monday Mussel Mania, those who dined on the delectables had choices of sauces the mussels were steamed in. Also had a dish to share of the grilled option as well. Great food, service and atmosphere, all washed down with excellent wine & beers. Highly recommended!
We went here for my fathers birthday. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food is pretty good too. I really like the high selection of different beers they have available, there was even a nice sweet cherry beer that Ive never had before. My only complaint is that it took them almost 30 minutes to deliver a second round of drinks. Other than that, really good visit.
Great as usual. Friendly staff, nice food. Had the mixed platter of mussels but forgot to take a photo. Someone had waffles too.
Went during COVID 19 Level 2.5 and the staff were fantastic. Always checking on the table to ensure drinks were topped up. Great range of European and local beers. Outdoor seating gets the afternoon sun 🍻
A fantastic place to visit for a bite to eat, a sneaky beer or two, or even a full on meal. The entire menu mixed with the daily specials make decision time a bit difficult because everything basically begs you to choose it via mouthwatering descriptions. The staff are awesome and make sure that everything is to your liking, and the building itself is 2 level with seating and toilet facilities on either floor and nostalgic decor.Always a pleasure coming here with family and friends :)Definitely recommend the Coq A La Biere.
The service was average. The staff dont smile enough. That south African young lady was amazin though ! Super friendly and went out of her way to make us happy. But the guy in the blue dreads is grumpy 😅 and the meat is too small for the size it should be. We ordered both the rump and eye fillet and the one that was meant to be bigger was smaller. Not happy about that. The chef that day seemed stubborn and doesnt care about customer satisfaction.. Good tasting food though. Great atmosphere. Love the spicy bloody Marys... could do with fresh garnish rather than old one though but the pork crackling was yummy- great touch! And the fudge dessert is to for for!! Well done! 🤩
Drink are nice but food is average. The seafood platter is warm and not so fresh. The deep fried stuff like chips and squid is good. Mussels & Sticks also fine. The bread is as hard as a rock !
Walked in on a Thursday which was their rib special night. Such good value for money! The ribs, chips and slaw were all so yum! Massive portions. I had a sangria which was really nice too. Love their range of beers. We also ordered a dessert each, when one wouldve been enough since they are so large. Love how fluffy the dessert waffle was. The brownie is very decadent. Service was attentive and it has a very cute atmosphere.
Pretty darn good. Atmosphere characteristic of Belgium. A couple of non standard Belgian beers great to see and drink! Food great. Needs a little bit of TLC, but being a bit rough is how it is in the old Country. More independent Belgian and NZ versions please. No need for Speights.
Nice place for an evening drunk since it wasnt busy so there were many tables available. Lots of different beers on tap which was nice. They had a similar range to the one in Mission Bay. I didnt have food but a friend had the mussels and it looked quite good.
We came here around 6:00 and was promptly served Klarissa, a friendly waitress with a wonderful personality and excellent attitude! Was very impressed with her service. We then got served world class food which we all enjoyed and will definitely make a return trip for.Overall highly recommend coming here for the atmosphere, food and friendly staff, thank you De Post! 😊
A lovely place for Belgian wheat beer. Sited in the historic Mt Eden Post Office. Great place to enjoy food and beverages with family and friends. The mussels here are legendary as are the potato fries.Recommended.
Wowey pub food served here! Main menus available thoughout all hours - we visited around 4pm.Friendly and well-trained staff, homey atmosphere with lots of wooden touches.Great back garden terrace. Amazing place to grab a beer at all times.A bit disapointing lemon ade - it was store bought, we expected homemade :(
Quite a nice rustic bar. First visit there had a decent experience. Food (steaktasted yummy and staff is friendly. No parking on site so will need to look for street parking nearby. However on my second visit it was more disappointing, lamb was served cold after waiting for a long time for food. My partners steak was cooked well done instead of the ordered medium. Taste was still good.
I love their selection of beers and food is pretty good, only down side is it took them ages to get the food out eventhough it was a monday night.
My partner and I came here for steak special day. We ordered an extra large cup of Hoegaarden, wow...its really large. And also had 1/2 dozen buffalo wings, 1 kilo garlic, celery &lemon mussel and steak with mushroom sauce which is really tasty.
All round very happy with the service provided by the great staff at De Post.If you love trying new beer then they have you covered with some of the best Belgian beer ever created. The food is reasonably priced and very delicious, I never had anything a bad or passable meal here. The staff are very attentive and quick to serve.Overall I always enjoy my time at the De Post and I highly recommend you visit next time your looking for a good evening out.
