Dawson's Family Restaurant - Restaurant in Childress, United States
Great food and nice people!!
Very good service.. fresh food. Good taste and not oily at all even in fried food items.
The food and service great. Parking for big trucks in the back.
Club sandwiches were a disappointment. Kraft singles for cheese an Merical Whip rather than real mayo. Meat and tomato were skimpy. The restaurant was clean and staff friendly.Locals seem to over rate the place. Maybe breakfast would be better.
Great little diner if you’re out on the road looking for a solid meal. The chicken fried steak was delicious. And the brown gravy is to die for. Quick service too.
Their hours show to be open until 2:00 on Sundays but we stopped at 12:45 and the doors were locked! There were several people eating but the waitress did not acknowledge me!
Super friendly. Big rig parking. Highly recommend
Great lunch spot, lots of parking, especially if your pulling a trailer.
buffet only on sundaysgood family style
Great food, fantastic service with a smile!
The food was excellent! Lots of food & at a great price!Staff was top notch as well!
Breakfast took way to long after the order and was very cold.
Food was amazing and staff was professional and friendly. Dont miss this wonderful restaurant.
Great place for lunch in Childress right on 287. We had the buffet and it was good food. Fried catfish, chicken spaghetti, & hamburger steak today, with veggies & salad. Well worth the price—only 1 or 2 dollars more than menu items.👍🏼
Stop here every time I drive from Amarillo to Dallas area and back. Really good catfish!
I don’t understand how they could have decent food IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
Food was good, not great. Chicken breast had too much seasoning and made it tricky to eat.
We stopped here for dinner and was rewarded with a home style meal from a buffet that featured chicken fried steak, fried catfish with sides that had us leaving full and happy we stopped.
Was there during breakfast crowd and place was busy. But even so, it took only a few minutes to get order placed amd food delivered. I had ckn fried steak and M had pancakes. Her pancakes were so fluffy that the syrup soaked in, and in, and in. And they were big. I had to help by eating the 2nd of 2. The ckn fried steak was the best I had on our trip, (I ate it 3 times before this time). We always try to eat at family restaurants when we travel. We were able to over hear the local gossip and the political views of the locals. (This trip, with us choosing to eat local when we can, politics has been the most heard talk from the local coffee drinkers). This restaurant is one to stop at folks. The interior has been just recently remodeled. As a builder, I will say that the craftsmanship was top notch, done in a country fashion. Bright and clean was everything.Choose this place people
When I am in Childress this is the place for lunch. Clean facility, service good and the food is very good. Last time I ate there, they had a lunch buffet that was particularly very good and fairly priced. Ck it out if in Childress.
Great breakfast and service for a very fair price. We will definitely stop in again!
Great home cooking style restaurant, breakfast and lunchThey have a buffet andFriendly service
I must’ve been hungry because the breakfast was really good
I had the cheese burger with everything on it. It was very good. The french fries were over cooked and not good. It was near closing time sooo. Dont know if I will eat there again. But the cheese burger was good.
We are driving to Plano. They got great review so we stopped. Staff friendly, service prompt. Food, we are sitting in a vehicle so we did not want all you can eat heavy, greasy food from the buffet. It was 11 and they have a burger or 1 sandwich on the menu, all the rest are large dinner meals, so we ordered breakfast. Pancakes average, omelette terrible: bacon in omelette almost raw, mushrooms straight from can and not warmed on grill so they were cold and rubberey. Hash bowns must have beennl last of theday burnt and greasy. We wont stop on our way home.
The food here is great. All homemade. Ive been here twice. Everything Ive tried has been great. The place is extremely clean and the service is very friendly. Highly recommend.
Very clean...enthusiastic help...buffet looked really good but too much food on this day. Felt a little rushed but food was good.
This was a wonderful find! Nice clean simple dining room. Everything looks new. The menu was larger than expected, the food was great and hot. The service was quick and wonderful. The ladies waiting tables knew their stuff!
This little Diner was a enjoyable break from our travels. Had the kids and grandkids with us and everyone enjoyed thier meals. Simple menu but everything tasted like "good home cooking."Chicken fried steak had an awesome breading, loaded omelette was delicious and everyone got HUGE pieces of super tasty bacon,. Sausage or ham. Food is very fresh. This dinner wont dissapoint and we would be regulars if we lived closer.
It was great! Husband did buffet and loved it. Real home made food. Lots of locals were there. Highly recommend.
Good ol comfort food at a reasonable price. The folks there are really friendly and professional.Just be a bit patient if you go on Sunday at lunchtime cause its always packed ,and you might have to wait to get a table!
Traveling through on business and craved some home style food. Lots of choices on the menu and an awesome buffet today with chicken casserole, hamburger steak, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and salad. All delicious and all you can eat for amazing prices .Eva the waitress is a doll and does a great job. I will be back.
Passing through and stopped in to eat. The buffet only had a very select option so I went for the chicken fried chicken plate instead and OMG it tasted JUST like my mommas! The breading is perfect. And their fried okra is 10/10! Tasted like home. And the service was great all the girls on the floor had good positive attitudes and were very attentive! Would HIGHLY recommend stopping in to eat here!
Classic small town diner. I had the club sandwich and can recommend enthusiastically. Friendly staff and mostly local clientele. Much better than the chain restaurant alternatives!!
Fantastic lunch buffet at a great price. We were all pleasantly full by the time we left.
Excellent food with lots of flavor! Tasted just like a home cooked meal. Breading on the chicken fried chicken and chicken strips is worth the trip itself! Good prices for the amount of food you receive.
Traveling thru and decided to try it because parking lot was full. No disappointment whatsoever. Food was plentiful and good. My six year old who complains about all food said “this is not half bad” which is a five star rating if I ever heard one. I would definitely eat there again and again.
Been back since my original review and had breakfast there. Their service is wonderful, the ladies serving there are so sweet and attentive. We had the breakfast buffet and it was really good. And the restaurant is absolutely spotless. Very pleasant place to eat.Original:Great service and the food was very good. Best chicken quesadilla Ive had in a while.
I had a very pleasing experience at this restaurant. I had driven through the night and was ready for a hearty breakfast but yhe time was 11:18a.m. and they stopped serving breakfast at 11:00 and start their lunch menu. The waitress could see my disappointed look and said shed be right back. When she returned she advised me that I would be able to order the breakfast I wanted. I did so readily and added a lunch order to take with me when I left. The food was excellent and I could tell by the interactions of the two young ladies working the floor and the conversations I over heard between them and the cook that they were either family or had been working together for a long time. Whichever the case may be, they were so observant and professional. They took care of everyone with the ease and grace of very accomplished and seasoned veterans of their business. Its very comforting to see people that still take great pride and care in what they do. To the ladies of the restaurant, you have a loyal customer. Ill be stopping in everytime I make my trip. Thank you
The food is tasty. We have not eaten a bad meal there yet. We eat there when we are in town once a month. They stop serving breakfast at 11 a.m.. They have a lunch buffet starting at 11 on Sundays. The staff is friendly and efficient. The ice is the good ice!
Stopped in on day one of a week long motorcycle trip. Great food and great service. Loved the fried catfish and shrimp. Very comfortable, clean place with lots of locals who know each other and order their “usual.” Had a nice chat with an older gentleman sitting at the next table over. He was a regular, I am not, and was made to feel welcome. I hope to stop there again on my way home!
I loved our experience here!!!!! The food is oh so fresh, portions are great. We were bowled over by the grilled veggies and homemade, not boxed, mashed potatoes. My hubby really enjoyed the fried catfish and hush puppies. Prices are super. Passing thru on a long roadtrip, we feel we lucked into a real treasure. We hope to visit again on our way back hlme.
Good prices for a simple breakfast. However, the coffee was subpar, and they didnt have butter available for pancakes, just vegetable spread. Very clean and the waitress was friendly, but we wont return...the food just wasnt worth it.
This was an amazing place. Im from the country but now live in Colorado. The food was what I have been missing. The staff was so friendly. I have a broken leg and she offered to fix my plate so my husband could fix his. ❤ probably the cleanest place we have eaten at. Keep up the amazing work!
On my way back to Florida on an 8,000 road trip - looking for a place to eat breakfast and stopped here. They had a buffet set up with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, potatoes and toast and it was all good - they kept it stocked and the price was less than what some places charge for menu items. Great Food, Fast Service and Friendly Staff - Ill definitely stop in again.
Had a late lunch there. The fried chicken in the buffet was excellent. Mashed potatoes, beans and corn were also good. Strange but no bread? It was wonderful to have a good sitdown meal that was relatively quick, with great service and not do fast food. I recommend
Excellent stopover on our way from Dallas to CO. Clean, friendly, quick and delicious. Buffet style but there is a menu also. Buffet had salad bar, soup, fried catfish that was crispy, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans...you get the idea. After too many disappointing meals on road trips, this one rates as one of our very best!!!
Newly renovated restaurant, but same great feel. Staff is always super friendly, and very attentive to its patrons. Ive never had a bad meal here, and always look forward to stopping in, when Im in town. Highly recommend stopping in, and enjoying a hot, fresh meal.
It has a nice "small town" feel with spacious dining. I had the lunch buffet and it was ok. Order from the menu if you want a bigger selection than the buffet.
BLAND! Best describes this place. The kids had burgers and they were actually pretty good according to them, but everything else was mediocre at best. I should have looked more closely at the buffet before I decided to get it. The veggies, limited as they were, were boiled, unseasoned mush. The fish was cooked well, but had NO flavor at all. Dousing it in tartar sauce and hot sauce did little to improve it. Oh, and the salad bar was a complete joke. Mixed lettuce from a bag, beets...really?! Beets! Black olives, cheese, sliced bell pepper chunks, sad cucumber wedges and thats it! The wife was so disheartened she just ordered chips and salsa. The chips were cooked in old grease and tasted burnt. I will, however note that our waitress was pretty nice considering the fact she was serving up some of the saddest food Ive ever had. NEVER will I sit at one of their tables again and I advise you to avoid them too unless you have a hankering for really bland, boring food!
