Dat Dog in New Orleans
Description
Privilege
I was so hungry, I forgot to add photos ha the buns tasted homemade, had the Son of a Saint dog, delicious. Probably the best chili cheese fries Ive ever had, too. Great spot for some cheaper eats in New Orleans, and a decent local beer selection.
MoreGet place with a great vibe, food choices for even a pickie eater, kids menu, sodas, tea, full bar you name it. Ordered JIMMYS CHICAGO DOG and fries, dog was great, awesome flavor, dressed with fixings. Just the right amount of food for a lunchtime meal, that wont leave you hurting when you leave. Parking wasnt an issue since it was Monday at lunchtime, curbside parked and walked a block. Cant miss the colorful building with seating inside and outside. Looks like a really cool place to hangout with friends at night.
MoreGreat prices and friendly bartenders. Food was on point! Cant wait to go back!
Just went in, found a restaurant in disorder. No ice in the Ice machines, 1 bartender taking all the orders at the bar for the house.... Old azz home rich people, being jerks as patrons.... Maybe the other location is better.... We took our money and left, came next to door to Boil.
MoreWe were excited to try for the first time, but left disappointed. My husbands card was charged twice, and he had to show proof of the charge to 3 people before someone finally refunding the second charge. The food tasted okay, but when my husband found a hair in his food, we decided that it wouldn’t go on our return list. Things got worse when my husband ended up throwing up the whole night. Hopefully it was just a bad night at Dat Dog, but we don’t plan to return.
MoreThe food was very good, but the service was awful. We arrived at 8:20 and the restaurant doesnt close until 9:00. Every interaction with staff included rude reminders they were about to close. We were rushed out the door at 8:59. I would love to return for the hotdogs, but it is a major bummer to feel like an inconvenience when you are paying to go out to eat.
MoreAlways a great experience here! The bartenders are great and there’s a great drink selection. We love the atmosphere and love trying different hot dogs! My husband loves the fried dat chicken dog and today I tried the rougarou dog and added blackberry sauce and it was great! We also got the bacon ranch cheese fries which were the perfect side to our dogs!
MoreLove this location, its never too crowded and theres Trivia ok Wednesdays at 7:30pm.My favorite dog is actually Dat Chick, basically chicken tenders in a hot dog bun and you can choose any toppings you want. So crispy and delicious!Sea Dog Special is also so crispy and delicious! The burger I wanted to like but it was really dense and overcooked :(
MoreWe walked in pretty late in the evening and were greates with big smiles and welcoming attitudes. We planned on getting our food to take away, but were encouraged to sit and enjoy our delicious choices. The buns were soft and delicious and the meat was juicy and flavorful. We each cut our hot dog in thirds and tried a variety and all of them were marvelous. The bartender was so charming and friendly and shared funny stories of New Orleans and their regulars. The atmosphere was colorful and fun! I will eat there again and again! My only regret was eating so quickly, I forgot to snap any pictures. Yet another reason to return!
MoreWe came in with a group of 10 on Friday to grab a quick bite while shopping. We had heard great things about the place and we’re really looking forward to it! However, the customer service was absolutely terrible from one bartender specifically. There were two bartenders, one of which was solely making drinks and standing there when she wasn’t making drinks. And the other that was taking orders, putting them in, etc. After about 10 minutes of standing at the bar, we called over the bartender making drinks to make sure this is where we were supposed to order. She rudely said to us that they only had one computer working and so we were going to have to wait. This is after 10 minutes of us seeing her make a drink and then stand there and passing by us multiple times without saying a word. As someone with a background in customer service, it would have been really simple for her greet us and let us know they would be with us soon. Instead, she was rude and hostile with us the second we stepped foot at the bar. However, the other bartender taking orders was so pleasant and kind! We all felt bad for her.
MoreMy dog was made wrong so I took it back to the grill cook. He took it by the trash can threw away and bun, put the dog in a tray handed to the girl behind the counter and told her to put Mustard and relish on it. Has to be the most unsanitary thing Ive seen done in a restaurant in a long time.
MoreReally good hotdogs and fries!! I had the alligator dog! It it good!!!
The fries was excellent and hot dog was very good
Unique hotdogs and sausage creations. The food and service were both good. It has a bar in it like most places in New Orleans. There were a few booths and a couple of tables inside but plenty of seating outside. It is a few miles outside of the French Quarter but the area it is in has so many shops and other places to explore as well. I would definitely eat here again.
MoreFancy a pint and an excellent dog? This is the place for you! I loved the duck dog my wife tried, my alligator dog was fine, but I ended up wishing Id had hers!
MoreGreat dogs with lots of exotic options. You can even get an alligator dog, but I wasnt that brave. Fun atmosphere with some funky artwork. They have three locations in New Orleans, this one was close to our hotel.
MoreFun place to eat dogs with styles around the world. Good selection of fries.
Have the tots!!! Theyre awesome. Hots dogs are good too but the bacon ranch tots are delicious!! My hubby had the etouffee tots and loved them. Great outdoor dog friendly patio. Good bar.
MoreInteresting hot dogs with fun toppings. Tots were cooked perfectly. Sad that it was cheese sauce instead of actual cheddar, though. Huge outdoor space and an indoor and outdoor bar.
MoreI dont give 5 stars to many restaurants but I really loved Dat Dog. It had been years since Ive been (thanks to a move and the pandemicbut man, is this place good. I will likely be adding it to one of those "must try" places when I give people recommendations about where to go, which is crazy because the entire concept is built around hot dogs. I had the Rougaroo and would highly recommend it. I also had (dont judgethe Holiday Dog (which is a turducken sausage with stuffing and sauce)--I thought that was pretty good and glad I tried it but would probably try other things if I ever try it around this time again. My family also had the Guinness and the Son of a Saint and loved both. Id suggest passing on the tater tots and saving those calories for another restaurant or dessert elsewhere. Or a drink--their beer selection is pretty good!
MoreThis place was extra fun! They had a great patio with citrus trees and every type of "dog" imaginable. My son had an alligator one, mine was a turducken with stuffing and cranberry, my spouse was extra spicy, and my other son had heaping tater tots. Delish and so much fun!
MoreWe went to the Dat Dog on Frenchman. Cute and bright decor, fun atmosphere, and friendly staff. Great place to grab a quick bite to eat. Unique menu selections. Crawfish dog and fries were excellent.
MoreGreat selection of meats and toppings with a very cute atmosphere and outdoor seating. Everything was full of flavor and crafted nicely. Location is nice for walking in the area.
MoreGreat tasting hot dogs in a chill environment. I had the duck hot dog with chipotle mayo and loved it!
MoreTasty twist on hot dogs with a variety of different specialty dogs. I’ve been 3 times and always got the Crawfish Etouffee Dog. It’s very tasty and affordable. Very friendly team here too!
MoreUnfortunately our dogs left us feeling a little lacking. The ingredients seemed fresh. (Those buns were great. The staff and “vibe” of the place was fun. My daughter loved her alcoholic beverage. Even if our food wasn’t exciting this time, I’ll go back and buy some pricey hot dogs there again.
MoreYummy dogs. My namesake served us (john)Nice spot if you like dogs. Vegan options are available. Burgers in the form of hot dogs as well.
MoreGreat comfort food. Vaucresson hot sausage had a nice heat. Tater tots were crispy and not greasy with a variety of toppings. Beer selections were okay. Overall if you are looking for good comfort food this is the place to go.
MoreThe hotdog was great but the chili cheese fries were not good at all and they tasted old. I ordered online, which was simple. However my order wasnt ready at the time given in the email. They were busy and I understood that but thats why I pre-ordered. Staff wasnt friendly. Not rude either but I expected more. I mean I spent $15 on a hotdogs and chili cheese fries. It should have also come with a smile. Im just saying.
MoreThe hot dog was tasty but I don’t think $8 on average is the right price. The service was not particular friendly that day. We went around 3 pm maybe at night they have better service. The selection of drinks is good.
MoreGreat hot dogs, although a little small given the prices. The service was quick and the restaurant is very eclectic and unique, definitely a fun place to grab a quick bite.
MoreAwesome hot dogs! Im a huge fan of the blackberry mule. Lots of cute outdoor seating with TVs to watch your favorite sports games
MoreIf you are a hot dog lover then GET IN HERE. There are so many well crafted dogs plus you can build your own. Theyve got the non traditional like an alligator sausage (which was phenomenal-pictured belowand a crawfish as well as traditional dogs. The tater tots were spot on perfect. Tons of great beers. An astonishingly friendly staff. You wont be disappointed.
MoreAbsolutely love Dat Dog!! I had heard it was good and decided to go with a friend of mine and we absolutely loved it. If you like hot dogs, This is a must try. This is one of my new favorites now.
MoreIve been a hot dog lover/eater ever since I can remember. Dat Dog just made sure that I will be forever!! I will visit them whenever Im visiting NOLA! The service is typical southern, friendly and very helpful. The food though is scrumptious, delicious, eye watering, spectacular, and any other word you can possibly use to describe food. Even if you only get to visit once, you must! You will be changed for life. This place is amazing, with equally amazing food!!! Try the Duck Sausage or the Alligator Sausage...
MoreOMG...drove over from Mobile to give this a try after seeing it featured on Mr. Right. Was not disappointed at all. I tried the beer battered cod first and I really wish they had a buffet featuring it. Then I tried the crawfish dog with andouille, Nanas slaw and Chicago style (bright greensweet relish. Really dont remember which tap beer I had...had two😁many me thinks.🤪The buns for these dogs are well toasted and chewy...a perfect bun that unfortunately cant be found in stores. The service was very relaxed and just made you feel so welcomed. Chose the outside patio and enjoyed people watching as I waited for the staff to walk out calling my name. Dug into my choices and immediately realized Ill be back and this wasnt a wasted trip.
MoreI am impressed with the amount of toppings they can fit! If you like tangy flavors...i recommend this combo:Dill pickleSauerkrautSlawJalapeno or sport peppersDat sauce (mayo based sauce)I was very satisfied! I would definitely come back and recommend others put this on their "must see" spots while in NOLA.Outdoor patio is super! Thanks for the great flavors!
MoreI am vegetarian and am always too skeptical of trying anything vegan because most vegan items try to mimic the flavor and texture of meat which I am not a big fan of.Both my husband or I have never tried vegan hot dogs. This place however, was recommended to us by a friend, so we decided to give it a go.The ambience of this particular location was fun, like a cafe/bar like. It was pretty crowded when we entered, but we were able to get a booth to sit easily. We ordered the Spicy Chipotle Dog from their Vegetarian/Vegan section. Our order arrived in a few min and to our surprise it was really good. The bread had a nice crunch to it, the "hot dog" was perfectly seasoned. We went with some extra toppings of pickle, relish, pico de gallo, and some kind of cheese sauce.I would definitely recommend this place to all vegetarians and vegans. I am sure the meat section is fine too.If we go back to NOLA, we will definitely be back to this place.
MoreA delightful stop, whether for dogs and fries or simply a cold beer. Nice inside/outside bar and outdoor seating area. Friendly and efficient bartenders, great hot dogs.
MoreThe best hot dog place ever . They sell vegan hot dogs too.. the alligator hot dog was the best and tasted more like chicken . Would recommend this place while visiting NOLA.
MoreDat Dog is a jewel with A+ service, bright colors, plentiful seating, and a huge outdoor patio/garden.The gentleman who places my order was warm and very welcoming without overexerting it. The gentleman who ran the food was also warm, and engaged.Dat Dog was exceptionally clean and well staffed. My beef hot dog was delicious and dressed like a perfect marriage with an array of toppings. I also had the fries topped with crawfish etouffee. The fries were also topped with tomatoes, which I do not recall seeing it on the menu, but it is not a good pairing for me.I will return to Dat Dog and highly recommend it to anyone who loves brats and hot dogs, or would like something on the light side.
MoreDat Dog is a casual place located on Magazine St. in the NOLA Garden District. We were able to try three menu items while we were there and these were probably the best sausages we have ever had. There is quite a variety of menu items to choose from. You can customize your toppings, though some may be standard to specific sausages like the BlackBerry sauce. Table and bar seating are available both indoors and out. The outdoor patio is colorful and offers corn hole, giant jenga, and a water cooler with cups for people and bowls for dogs. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and took the time to chat with us. Definitely worth a visit.
MoreDat dog is everything you would want from a gourmet hot dog joint. Creative toppings, strange mixtures, great meat, and yummy sides. I had the Duck special and wait for it... cheddar bacon ranch fries. I didnt feel like I came away feeling as light as a feather, but I loved every bite. I got exactly what I expected with a few pleasant surprises. Great service. Super friendly.
MoreGood casual place to get a sausage, way better in quality and flavor hotdog. Also very distinctive flavors and styles. I highly recommend to step out of your comfort zone w/ foods that you dont typically eat and go get some good comfort food.Unfortunately they dont have normal table service/waiters so the tables stay with dirty plates for a while and the tables dont seem to be wiped clean either. The night i went was very slow with only 3 tables being occupied and the other tables were dirty with plates and the one i was sitting at was sticky and had a lot of food scattered around the table. The staff also seems to only acknowledge you on their time, i went up to the register about 3xs and each time i had to wait for a few minutes before someone decided to put their cell down or stop writing. Which is why i give this place 3 stars, great comfort food and not extremely expensive but poor service and cleanliness.
MoreFirst time to NOLA. First time at a dat dog. Loved it. Id be a regular if I lived down that way. I got a dat chick.... the flavor was on point. We split some loaded fries. Others got onion rings... they have options for all your food preferences. Bar and outdoor area were also nice. Id recommend this location to anyone!
MoreThis was our 1st time at Dat Dog and we had a blast!!! It was my mothers birthday celebration... and this was the place of her choice, she loves hot dogs! The food was delish and the prices were very reasonable! The loaded fries were the best!!!If you visit here, the fries are a must and the long island ice tea was superb, as well!!As a bonus, the owner happened to be dining the same time as we were and he was very nice and friendly; his friends as well! And one guy gave my son, daughter and mother each a two dollar bill! He said his name was Arthur, but I think he was someone else...lol...I seen him on tv before, (I think), very nice and generous. Thank you for helping make my mothers birthday much more memorable!!!Staff was very nice and parking wasnt too bad neither!Great, safe location for "DAT DOG"!
MoreI was walking down the street and saw this place. Being a person who loves veggie dogs, its hard to find a good veggie dog. I got the spicy chipotle vegan dog and it was delicious. Honestly, the best dog Ive ever had. We got one and loved it. We ended up getting another one as a meal. I would definitely recommend this place and I can for sure say that I will stop by it every time I come this way. I dont know about the other locations, but this one for sure has amazing dogs. The service was great also.
MoreI happily discovered this location on a Tuesday afternoon and it was Happy Hour! I got a delicious Cowboy Kicker dog for just $5!This was the third location Id visited in the past few months and they have all been great. Consistent quality, atmosphere and service.Great value, outstanding flavor. I like the outdoor seating option too.
MoreFresh buns and weenies for all! Dat Dog is an amazing selection of weenies and sausages from a burger made like a dog to alligator and duck and crawfish to a straight forward brat. If you can stuff it in an intestine and make it devine, Dat Dog is dat place! The bun is a fresh bun to hold the creation made with love. I tried over a couple days the crawfish, alligator, duck, brat, burger, and a traditional weenie. My favorite is a tie between duck and alligator. As for sides, the chili was straight forward (tried as a sideand the fries were unfortunately not fresh cut as they seemed to be a standard frozen then fried affair, the only disappointments. But when surrounded by the perfect fusion of meats, castings, toppings, and buns any side item would have to be over the top to compete. And the environment? Fun, colorful, and welcoming. Just how a dog place should be. And dont forget to wash it all down with a beer... go for one of the local brews. I am not from NOLA, but I will be back to visit dat place!!!
MoreThis is the best vegan hot dog that Ive ever had all my 4 year vegan life. It was worthy the waiting line. Also, I love their fries and Had to order an extra portion (not because the ones that come as side were not enough), but they were delicious!!
