Darwin Fisherman's Wharf Eatery - Fish & chips shop in Darwin, Australia
Darwin Fisherman's Wharf Eatery in Darwin
Description
Privilege
Food was very expensive and horrible to eat very disappointed
Friendly service and great fish.
Disappointing meal, especially for the price. We ate here based on the reviews from other rsring it highly. We paid $40 for 2 laughably small dinner boxes. The size of the piece of fish was decent but what sort of fish it was will forever remain a mystery. The chips were most disappointing, dull and flavourless and honestly tasted like that had been refried after being left to go cold the first time round.Overall a really disappointing experience. I can see the shop is for sale, maybe the current owners dont have the heart for well priced, good quality fish n chips anymore.
MoreBest battered snapper and flake in years! Good on you guys, perfect, crispy, not oily, and a decent thickness to the fish. Batter is delicious! Will be back!8)
MoreGreat fish and chipsFriendly staff /Great service
Got some nice battered fish and chips. Was a little oily for my liking, tasted OK, but I will get the crumbed or grilled next time.
MoreWas expecting a little bit more and has serious potential but wasnt any better than your average fish and chip shop.
MoreHad high expectations, thinking “it’s near a wharf”Was average at best, minimal chips and not worth$16.50
MoreShocking unwrapped fish n chips to find 2 long black hairs the fish was very thin over cooked and they weigh the chips for $3 we got a handful of chips. And the toilet was dirty and no papper. Wont be going back its no stars from us.
MoreHad family fish and chip box. Was oily as fuk and dry. Had to mortgage my house to pay for it also
MoreLove eating here! Especially in dry season, eating fresh hot fish & chips at the quiet back area with the kids. Yummy food and fast service.
MoreI didnt think you could slice fish that thin. $27 for fish & chip with a solo.
$18 for a very thin piece of grilled fish with no chips. The families food was overcooked and very oilyVery disappointed.
MoreJust threw out $70 worth of fish. It’s disgusting, even the kids won’t eat it. The chips are nice but the rest is inedible. Don’t eat here. Used the be best place in town but now it’s the worst in the country.
MoreNever had a bad meal. Hamburgers are the best.
Crumbed barramundi was filleted 2times more after they get it . Shocking paper thin with tiny dry lemon.Friends had snapper and it was amazing wow
MoreThe fillets are big and the battered oysters, so yummy
Was Yummy food but VERY expensive for what you get!! This is a FULL serve of chips for $7! And i was absolutely shocked was nice though but definitely not alot of it.
MoreThe one star was for friendly service. The piece of fish (Jew apparentlywas sliced so thinly that it was actually crispy - completely dried it out. I estimate that the thickest part of my fish was less than half a centimeter. Do your customers and your business a favour and use thicker, smaller fillets. Your batter is actually quite nice but hotter oil would give a better result as it was quite oily. So disappointed.
MoreThe prices were not desirable, and nor was the food. Over priced and left a sad tase in my sole.
MoreFresh fish and great staff. Grab food and walk around to the jetty overlooking one of Darwins main water inlets!!
MoreDelicious 😋 fish and chip and value for money 💰..
Darwin Fishermens Wharf Eatery, May 2022.I had the Fishermens mixed seafood basket and a prawn fried rice. The quality was reasonable but nothing special, the rice was a bit oily and a little undercooked. Would try them again if I felt like seafood. But there are many other places to try out in Darwin before returning to this reasonable fish and chips.
MoreBest fish and chips i ever had. The fish was great quality and calamari was not frozen pre-made stuff. Good service and nice dining in setting.
MoreThought I would have a beautiful fish and chips from a fishing town . How disappointed was I.Got a family pack. Was incorrect to what was on menue. And it was YUCK. . RUBBER flake inedible
MoreFish and chips are amazing! Not greasy, received it nice and hot. Yum!
It was decent fish (snapperbut too salty and no chips at all, was a total rip off and now feel yuck and a waste of money.
MoreOrdered flake. Paid $12. Was a thin piece of fish like boot leather. Dry as. Partner ordered the snapper it wasnt too bad. Wont go again
MorePurchased cooked seafood that was very fresh, well prepared, attractively presented and quite delicious. One of the reliable Darwin restaurants.
MoreIve been going there for 5 years & its just gets better & better I had threadfin salmon & it was a whole fillet man best ever
MoreWorst fish and chips by a long shot. Very greasy and near inedible. Asked for a piece of flake which was cut that thin you could have read the daily paper through it. Also got a steak burger which the steak was also wafer thin and lacked any significant filling. Felt very sick afterwards. Even the bin chickens and seagulls wouldn’t even fight over the chips from this venue. Avoid if possible. Won’t be recommending this to anyone and this comes from a chef who knows his food. Very dissatisfied.
MoreFor a quick dinner it was okay. We had 3 meals. Steak sandwich with the lot, seafood basket and grilled fish and salad. We all agreed the meals were a 7/10 each. The chips seemed like they no even salt and just had a sprinkle when plated. The grilled fish was very over cooked. The scallop in the basket was completely tasteless. This fish and prawns in the seafood basket were awesome and very fresh. The gardens out the back were good.
MoreHad the mixed seafood basket and it was pretty great. Calamari, squid, chips, scallops, prawns and fish. The only bit that let me down was the fish which I assume was the "imported" bit of the basket (as it was a mix of both local and import). Fish texture was grey and floury. The rest was a double thumbs up! Super fresh and tasty and generous portion.👍👍
MoreHad a fish and chips for lunch with husband and was happy with the food and the service. The batter was fresh and crunchy, however, it was a bit thick. The grilled Barra was nice but it couldve been thicker for the price we paid.Definitely we are going back there again.
MoreAlways a favourite. Good food, great views
I was annoyed when on the phone it sounded like the lady told me seafood sticks were $2 but ended up being $2.50 and the serves of chips are to laugh at, see my images of what $6 worth of chips look like. I honestly have felt ripped off. But when I opened the pack and saw that beautiful piece of snapper...awesome. The fish was fresh and was battered well, hot but still crispy. The seafood sticks were good, if only a little on the soft side but had some crispy bits. The chips were above average for fish n chip stores but the amount was a super let down. If you thought $6 of chips could feed your family you’re wrong. This review wouldve been a 4 or 5. The chips definitely have affected my rating. If I had only bought the fish, it would be 5 stars easy.Edit: Went back again, the second trip was much better, got more chips with my purchase, calamari rings were excellent and the battered snapper was still awesome for the price. Possibly my new fish n chips shop. Updated review to 4 stars, thanks.18_08_2021_Edit2: Inconsistency is disappointing, new attached image is not $30 of fish n chips on a tiny tray. Called the owner, they advised they weigh all the chips, but in no universe can you tell me there is $30 on that tray.
MoreTasty food, served by friendly staff. Its a bit of a tourist trap as the pictured Barra and Chips with 2 scallops and an apple juice was $31. Barra fillet cut very thin so difficult to enjoy the taste and texture.
MoreMy wife and I ate here in early June 2021, it was the toughest fish I have ever had, I have had more tender steak, not flakey at all. The 2 stars are for the chips, but a seafood shop needs to not serve severely over cooked fish.
MoreFish & chips are always good but you need to know that your orders will consistent. Example, I stopped ordering potato cakes for a while as they were always under-cooked. Then we gave them another try and they were perfect for a while (apparently you need to blanche the potatoes first - Im no chef! went back tonight and they were under-cooked again... and that stops me ordering again.Ive been a customer here for over 10 years. If the food was consistent, Id be a more regular customer. None of it is bad but they could be better.
MoreOne star because there wasnt a zero. The worse fish and chips Ive ever eaten. Besides the oil leaking through the paper, the fish was the worse. Expected thick tender flake fillet, not shake fin which is all it could have been. Go else where.
MoreOrdered a 1/2 serve of chips and a serve of Calamari (5 piecesfor $8 total on Easter Friday. Was very disappointed with the chips. If what we got was half a serve then the full serve would be a joke at least they were only $3. The calamari was decently sized but it did taste a bit fishy as thought they weren’t at their freshest or maybe just old oil? (we did not get sick from them though and my partner didn’t notice the fishy taste so may have just been me)Over all not bad but quantity for price is poor. I’ll be going else where in the future.
MoreNice seafood. Reasonably priced. Friendly and quick service. The walk along the wharf was lovely.
MoreNice range of restaurants, worth a visit for a fishing session and grab a bite while youre there.
MoreReally enjoyed fish and chips on the pier again, but not as good as the 60s
What a wonderful place for lunch. Service outstanding. Food is absolutely delicious. Try the crispy chicken with a surprising flavour. Nice to have happy smiling staff serve you.
MoreA casual spot with friendly staff. Fish & chips & fruit smoothie was good. Outside eating area could be cleaner.
MoreDangerously bad establishment. Prawns and scallops obviously fried frozen as batter huge and inside uncooked Food came in a pool of oil. No f#¢s given when I told casheir about the raw fish. She just shrugged her shoulders and said "yeah." I kept the remaining portion as evidence incase I die from botulism.Plenty of good places to get seafood. Avoid this place.
MoreWent yesterday (28/4/19), wasnt disappointed. Fish (Flakewas good, batter pretty good, not too thick. Sea scallops were huge. Chips were pretty good, better than most and they had REAL POTATO cakes! That was the clincher for me lol. Probably the best Ive had in Darwin so far. Service was very good. We ate in as did a steady stream of customers. Great location, quiet but still a great view of the harbour from the dining area out back. Well definitely be back.
MoreGreat fish and chips. Had the Australian white salmon. Good batter, fresh fish good portions. Chips were crunchy and golden cooked perfectly no burnt ends. Also had a dozen natural NZ oysters which were fresh and plump. No frills eatery, but hey they give you china plates and metal cutlery!
MoreSimple, fresh quality fish & chips. Barramundi was delicious, seating indoors and outdoors, friendly staff. Hidden gem not in the CBD
