Me and my wife came here after having read the impressive reviews online. We were in search of an authentic, romantic and architecturally impressive restaurant. We were not disappointed to say the least. We were met by a very kind person who escorted us through the narrow streets and all the way to the restaurant. When we reached the restaurant we were showed the pretty and quiet rooftop terrace where we could enjoy a cold drink before starting our meal. The food and service was amazing. Thank you so much to all the employees at Dar Zellij for this awesome experience. Will visit again when back in Marrakesh, inshallah.

While walking to the restaurant mentions suddenly closed. Very difficult to get there only on foot. Waste of time walking so far.

You must visit. The interior is absolutely beautiful. Top service. The beat tajin Ive had in marrakech. Get the beef shin with prunes and almonds. 10/10. Exceptional dinning experience. You should never be fooled by the (verymodest entrances of restaurants and riads in Marrakesh. Behind some doors youll find an amazing oasis. Dar Zellij is one of them. Historical and amazing Moroccan interior. The food is top notch with the best chicken tagine we tasted in Morocco. Although the hostesses greeted us with smiles, the rest of the service was a bit stand-offish; very correct but nothing more. It was also a bit pricey - you pay for the historical ambience.

Good but not great food. A touristy place trying to make an authentic experience, but delivery was just mediocre.

What an experience! Best take a taxi, phone ahead to make a reservation and be greeted at the top of the narrow cobbled streets for an escorted 4 minute walk to an unmarked door. When the door opens you are warmly greeted and invited into a dreamlike ancient property in an open courtyard setting. The rooftop bar is an experience all by itself but this isnt a suitable option for people with limited mobility, due to steep stairs. The waiting staff, food service, decorated tables and music feel incredibly authentic. If ever we are in Marrakech again we would have no hesitation to rebook or recommend to others.

Lovely experience at this restaurant! When we arrived we were taken up to the terrace for a drink. We then came back down to the restaurant for dinner and the food was delicious. Waiters are very kind and the doorman actually walked us back 10 minutes to our riad!Definitely recommend for a relaxing, classy dinner- they have a man playing the violin which adds to the ambience.

In a town full of restaurants that promise an authentic Marrakeshi experience yet have burgers and gnocchi on their menu, Dar Zellij is a restaurant that stands out because everything about it is truly Moroccan.The ambience is great, the menu is even better, and the only thing that tops that is the service. The hostess Ella will really take care of you.Strongly recommend trying the fish tagine and some Moroccan wine.

You may think this restaurant is expensive BEFORE you eat, but be patient and enjoy the food. Make sure youre hungry before eating. The portions are large, but exquisite and delicious.The value for money is excellent and front of house Ella is a delight!

Superb food, salubrious surroundings. Not a fan of the musical entertainment, but it did not detract from the very pleasant atmosphere and friendly service.

We went to this Marrakech gem , outstanding food & pleasant overall experience with live music. Tasteful and authentic without the kitsch you sometimes find. Glad to see them open as its a must visit to us.

The food was very good, the staff was caring and professional, the atmosphere was great (live music and dancing show). As I booked this place for a birthday, the staff kindly brought a cake with candles to celebrate the birthday. I strongly recommend this place !!

Nice food, especially the mosaic salad. The lamb was on point, truly delicious. Lost one star because it was quite stressful to get to the restaurant due to some children trying to scam people in the surroundings. This could be avoidable with simple signs pointing to the restaurant’s direction.

This place is very accommodating. Excellent service, you are treated like a 5-star guest. The food is both authentic and flavorful and also diverse in choices. Rooftop for drinks before dinner is a nice touch too. Would definitely recommend. Staff is friendly and welcoming. We will be back!

Best food in all of Marrakesh. Staff are helpful, and will help translate if needed. We had the lamb which was so tender and tasty. The creme brûlée was to die for.

Just came back from Dar Zellij after having the best meal weve had during our time in Morocco. Drinks on the terrace of the riad overlooking the medina was followed by an exquisite meal in the courtyard. I highly recommend the mosaic salad and the mouthwatering tajina marrakesh- the restaurants speciality. What really made our meal that extra bit special was the superb hospitality and the amazing atmospheric setting - a preserved 17th century riad in candlelight.

Great spot for those who love traditional ambiance. The food and the service are acceptable.

Really special !!! all the wine list was Moroccan!! reds, white, rosé, "grey"..?! (except for champagne!!)drinks on roof terrace. Music during dinner, from a musician.The salad starter... dramatic!!! The beef tajine... yummy!! The lamb shoulder... tasty (but a little "dry"?)... a beautiful high quality, last night treat!! Recommended!! :)Stunning service from ALL the staff!!

We were so happy about this place we went to eat there twice during our stay. The building is absolutely stunning, but most importantly we could not stop thinking about how good the tajine was. On top of that, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful (they even managed to find us a table during one of their busiest evenings, despite we had no reservation). The price is absolutely worth the quality of food, the service and the stunning location. Make sure you have a drink on the rooftop terrace as well-they have an extensive drink menu (including alcoholic beverages, not so common in the old Medina). Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful restaurant. The food is excellent and the staff very attentive. We had the 5 course set menu, delicious and very big! A couple could probably share one! (pictured is just the starter). The beef tagine was particularly exceptional.

Meal for four would roughly cost about £40-£50. It’s totally worth every penny. The chicken tagine is out of this world! The best times to visit is during the lunch hours it’s normally quiet because Dar Zellij used to be once a mansion owned by wealthy Moroccan aristocrats in the early 50s. This was later converted to an extravagant restaurant. The waiters are even dressed up in their own Moroccan ethnic attire. During the evenings every Saturdays and Wednesdays there’s belly dancer charming the restaurant customers. Would take a look at this place when you get the chance to visit Marrakesh.

A huge disappointment. Attracted by the 4.5 stars on Google. Had 2 dishes: lamb shoulder and fried roll. Dishes were expensive not not worth the price tag. The lamb shoulder was not hot, rough and flavorless. The fried roll was good in deed but expensive. The vibe was good as there was a musician playing traditional Morocco music. Not recommended due to the price and value.

Very nice place overall. Actually a beautiful house hidden in the northern parts of the old part of the city. Plan to be in time for a sunset drink on the rooftop terrace. The restaurant courtyard is beautiful and very nice. Service is impeccable. Food is good but not exceptional. Slightly overpriced I would say. Put differently, for the prices one would expect exceptional cuisine. But overall a great place.

Execellent service, the place is amazing with a beautiful roof top for cocktails as well as beautiful patio for dinner. The food was very good , we were a huge group ans were well treated

Nice, fancy and cosy 🌇 restaurant. Staff was very polite and professional. Cannot tell how good was food 🍝, because we had only drinks 🍸(expensive as hell 💸💸💸upstairs, which was really nice place. I felt safe again (compared with wild life outside 🤠)

Excellent (tasty, flavorful, perfection in spices-not overdone at all as in many placesfood and lovely ambience. We had lamb tajine, lamb shoulder, salads and dessert. The staff from the maitre to the waiters, musician on the oud, were extremely warm, hospitable, friendly and professional. Was a very lovely evening, with a birthday celebration! (Special Thanks to Ella and Khadija!)

We had a great aperitif from the rooftop while we waited for our table in the dining room. We had the Moroccan Iced Tea, which was not so bad. For dinner we had the cous cous and were impressed.

Dar Zellij is a bit of a trek to get to. One can take a taxi to a certain point, where a porter will come gather you on foot - and walk you to the restaurant down some winding paths.Once youve arrived, youll have the option to go to the roof top for a drink. Its lovely up there when the weather is right, so I would say its worth the climb. They offer some light snack while consuming a nice rose, or a beverage of your choice. They serve a number of nice Moroccan wines, its worth it to try them.Once back down stairs and seated, I had some help from the wait staff about what Id like to eat. After offering that I enjoy lamb, I was convinced to go with their tanjia lamb dish. As a starter, I went with a traditional Moroccan soup. As a heads up to all, a number of Moroccan dishes have cilantro (corianderin them, this soup is no different. The soup was delicious even though I dont fancy the spice (they have a way of neutralizing it to a certain extent).The Tanjia was the highlight of the night. Cooked in an oven and then clay pot, the lamb was juicy, as beautifully spiced (not hot spicy). Ive talked for days about how much I loved this dish.I ended the meal with a Moroccan desert, and Moroccan tea. Both delicious as well, and just enough to fill the final spaces in my belly.The atmosphere is lovely here. Its an enclosed restaurant, quiet from the world humming outside. A Moroccan guitar player strums during your meal, and if the timing is right you may enjoy a belly dance as well. While this isnt dining with the locals, at the very least youre able to enjoy very traditional meals at their best.

This could be a great restaurant, the venue is beautiful with a fantastic atmosphere and the rooftop terrace had a nice view. Unfortunately, the service seemed unorganised and slow and got our order for the main courses wrong. The food itself was good but for the price a little underwhelming. Nothing wrong with it but also nothing different to the tagine and couscous you get elsewhere. We had a good time but considering the upmarket pricing of the restaurant we were not as impressed as we hoped.

Unforgettable experience! We did not reserve but the manager was super friendly and gave us a table anyway although it was fully booked. I thanked him since I really wanted to eat at this restaurant for my girlfriend’s birthday.We took great appetizers and fish tajine which was unbelievably tasty! The waiters were also really thoughtful, friendly and treating us like stars.All of this in combination with the amazing decor in the restaurant created a special and unforgettable feeling. In the end when serving the dessert they came with 5 people to sing happy birthday in Arabic and French, topping that with a free Moroccan tea. All of this because I quickly mentioned about my girlfriend’s birthday.Thank you so much for this amazing experience!Don’t bother searching for another place, because this is all that you are searching for!

Went for Christmas Eve dinner here, this place exceeded expectations. 10/10 for ambience (music, petals, candlesand superb service, lovely local wine and the best food- a great selection of Moroccan dishes. Perfect evening. Lovey decor. Hope to return soon.

Had high hopes. Good cocktails on the rooftop. Sweet chickenpatella was fine. Tagine lamb and chicken was OK. No fireworks. Good wine. Nice staff. Had to wait for 40 min for the bill and asked for it three times! 😫

Went here for dinner on a recommendation from our Ryad. It’s tucked out of the way but opens up into a beautiful open air courtyard. As we were there in the evening they had candles and petals out decorating all the tables and a live musician playing quietly in the corner.The atmosphere is calm and serene but feels almost opulent. The staff are polite and speak French and English perfectly if you don’t know Arabic. The menu is made up of an a la carte and set options. It’s not expansive but has typical Moroccan dishes. A starter is around 100MAD and a main will be around 200MAD. The wine menu is also quite limited and didn’t do wine by the glass although you can get a half bottle.The food and wine were both delicious though and we left thoroughly satisfied.All in all a great experience on the more expensive side if dining...Would recommend.

Kind of a hidden gem with a really nice rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a drink before your dinner service. The staff are very attentive, the restaurant looks quite fancy and the food and wine are very tasty. There is a lot of attention to detail, creating a very enjoyable and romantic atmosphere. We had the lamb and beef tagine which waiting staff actually plate for you. Worth visiting if you want to go for a fancy dinner.

Luxury and fancy, so prices are not cheap as any restaurant in town, but service and live music indeed worth the extra money if you’re looking for different experience, definitely not local, but it’s kinda being in Marrakesh Hollywood resturant

Food was good, not great - we got one of the tasting menus for the two of us and added two dishes. It was way too much food. The chocolate mousse dessert was delightful. The service was painfully slow and we waited on the rooftop patio for 1.5 hours for them to bring us to our table. They allowed us to make a reservation but I don’t think they realized their dinner service hadn’t started, resulting in the 1.5 hour wait time. The service and time are the reasons for the 3-Star review

This was the best restaurant in all of Morocco! We did a culinary excursion and ate at many fine establishments, most at a higher price point than Dar Zellij. But the food, ambiance, and service made this the winner. The menu has prix fixe options and the portions are extremely generous, and Im used to American portions! There is live music that is chill and non intrusive. All the staff spoke English fluently. They can even send you back to your hotel with a guide to ensure you dont get lost.
