Dar Essalam - in Marrakech, Morocco
Beautiful place where having a good food while enjoying a show.
A little pricy but you’re not only paying for dinner but also a show and what a show it is! There are constantly new acts coming through dancing and playing music, the waiters also have some flair doing some accidental spills and jokes. Would recommend getting a reservation if possible because this spot fills up in the evenings despite its massive size!
we went for dinner and a traditional show... and the restaurant itself is the show... quintessential Moroccan design - and its simply exquisite!.. its also the restaurant where Hitchocks "The Man Who Knew Too Much" was filmed...the food was okay - nothing outstanding... but the music was great and the show was fun... and again - the restaurant worth the trip...
This restaurant is a must when visiting Marrakech, it might be touristy, but it is insanely beautiful inside. The service provided by Mustafa was amazing, hes a lovely waiter. The food was delicious as well, and not much more expensive comparing it with other touristy restaurants.
Outstanding evening here. We were tired and exhausted and very hungry after a few days climbing in the Atlas Mountains. Dar Essalam was the perfect send off from our Moroccan adventure! The food was fantasy, our host (Mahmoudwas perfect and the entertainment was out of this world! Well worth a visit!
The food was delicious, the dancers were amazing but I must say they really dont take care of their customers. We had to wait for 35 minutes to just get our waiter to acknowledge us and get us our coffee. The waiters are not attentive to you and youll end up waiting over an hour for them to just take your order.
The food was absolutely delicious with lots of traditional food. The entertainment was also very good as there was a dancer and also a local "band" using local instruments as well as drums. There are also some vegan and vegetarian options and not just the standard salad. Highly reccomend however the prices are a bit high.
Such a lovely place to eat. We opted for the 3 course meal at 250dh. Including drinks, you are looking at around 550dh - 600dh for 2. The decor was great and entertainment was a really bonus. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would say is that they didnt make it clear that there was bread for us on the table 😆 it was just hidden in the little container that looks like table decoration haha.Would recommend this place to everyone.Note: booking in advance can secure you better seats for entertainment.
Recomendación de una española ;)Honestly 10/10 recommend. Our local friends suggested having dinner there as the food is fantastic and they were more than right, they always go there for the traditional food, dances and live music. I would definitely recommend the place to my friends and family and to you reader as well. Thanks for the amazing hospitality and the kind waiters. We really enjoyed the night.
All I can say is Wow.. This restaurant is decorated amazingly.. Its the oldest restaurant in Marrakech..Its from the 1600s.. Great Food.. Great show starting at 8:00pm.. We loved this place.
Best moroccan food Ive eaten and Im Moroccan. Best experience. Best servers. Just go there, you wont regret. That was the highlight of our trip to Marrakech
Beautiful place, exceptional service, delicious food.
A real movie scenario definitely a oasis in the middle of desert.
Stunning building so we thought wed try dinner here, which wasnt half bad and pretty reasonably priced, the entertainment was pretty good too, live music from a couple of bands and a perplexing display of belly dancing by a lady with a lit candelabra on her head. No, were not sure, either. The 15 year olds were allowed to join the band so we had a pretty interesting time.
What a wonderful place. Nice food and friendly staff. I strongly recommend it.
This place is amazing. Just the decor alone is just beautifully majestic. If you are a foreigner, youve most likely never seen anything like it. Call or visit ahead and make a reservation for good seats. Performances start around 8pm. We saw amazing Gnawa musicians ... fantastic! The food is good but there is alot going on so just make sure waiters get everything right! Everyone is very kind and hospitable. Its a nice place so look smart ...
The shows are nice, food s good and price is reasonable. Very nice staff as well. Worth to visit
Wonderful place for dinner and great interactive performers. Traditional Moroccan food, the kefta tagine was great, and we really enjoyed all the desserts. A reservation is best, we made one by messaging them on Instagram.
Great place for food and entertainment definitely recommend!! Staff was so friendly!
Its one of the greatest restaurant in the city, friendly staff , food is delicious , music , gnawa , dancers were so good , it was a nice experience
Visited as a party of 32 perhaps could have been better with just the 2 of us
The restaurant was amazing, never tried the food
Such a beautiful experience! The food was delicious and such amazing music!
We had a great time! Food was good, show was fun, excellent atmosphere. The chicken was particularly delicious. And - Definitely get the traditional local dessert to finish! Also, stayed at the associated Riad dar Essalam. Great location.
We always recommend this amazing authentic restaurant for guests attending our tours (Marrakesh Behind The Walls). Delicious food, amazing venue and vibes, friendly owners and professional staff. Keep up the good work.
What an amazing place! We came after simply being recommended for food and had no idea what a feast for all the senses it would be! The food of course, was DELICIOUS (the Moroccan salad selection was particularly goodbut what really made it stand out was the entertainment. During the course of the evening we were treated to a fantastic (and interactivebelly dancer and live music from 2 incredible Berber musicians (one of which even let me have a go on hi Guembri which as a musician I could not refuse! All the staff were amazing and service and was very quick, we can highly recommend!
The Dar Essalam riad offered an amazing stay and experience that I would really recommend to anyone: rooms are renovated and the bathroom is super new and clean, beds are comfy, decoration is stylish, and there is AC/heating in the room. One of the highlights is the rooftop where you can enjoy some calm moments if you want to get away from the hassle and bustle from the Place Jemaa el-Fnaa thats only 5min walk away, and to enjoy beautiful sunsets from there too.Karima from reception (and all the other employeeswere extremely kind, always accommodating our needs and offering everything we needed. Top place in Marrakech, felt like a palace.
You feel like in a movie! Exceed our expectations in everything. It is definitely a must if you come to Marrakech.
We adored everything about this charming and excruciatingly authentic Marrakech restaurant, filled with exceedingly entertaining performances, and wholesome cuisine. 100% recommended.
We visited the restaurant and we were positively surprised by this hidden gem. The atmosphere is pleasant, the food is good and the live show animated everyone.
Very lively dinner spot! Entertainment starts around 8/9 with music and belly dancing! Yummy Moroccan food and lovely staff!
Loved coming here and seeing the Hitchcock venue for The Man Who Knew Too Much. Very friendly staff, relaxing terrace and good food.
We have had the pleasure of staying in hotels all over the world, but the Dar Esalaam Hotel may be the best yet. We stayed in the royal suite for 5 nights and felt indeed like royalty in this former palace. The staff was friendly and engaging. the rooms were clean and extremely comfortable. And the breakfasts were wonderful. Put this place on your Bucket List!
Incredibly beautiful place, food was delicious. The two people with me had been there before and also highly recomend this one. They serve alcohol here and is non smoking compared to other local places. Authentic music and belly dancing was also a huge plus!
Its a very nicely decorated old Riad. The entrance is easily missable but the interior is massive.Food is good but slightly on the expensive side. Service is good and quick. It can get busy during the peak season so make a reservation if you can or get in early.
If you want dinner with live music and dance in a restaurant decorated like a palace, this is your place. The food wasnt incredible but if you think about the show you understand the price. You would pay 3 times more for the same dish thann other places but it is truly special in there. I think it is worth it as a one-off.
This restaurant ist great for a good portion of touristic entertainment. The location is beautiful full of Mosaik. Bellydancer and musicians are delivering a great show, including the guests by making them dance or play an instrument. Food and service is decent. It’s not the location for a cozy dinner but it’s a great show, which should not be missed when in Marrakech for the first time.
Went there for my birthday this week. Authentic atmosphere with live performers. Food was nice but I think it doesn’t justify the prices tho if you have a special occasion it’s worth going. Wine varies from 120 DH to ~400 DH so you can treat yourself with some local ones.
We went to this restaurant on the last night in Marrakech and it truly made it memorable. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and easy to find. For dinner we had tanjia with cumin and ginger (if I remember correctlyand couscous with the Moroccan salad as a starter (which isn’t really a salad but there were six small dishes: one with lentils, two with two different jams (tomato and pumpkinwhich were delicious, one with eggplants, and two more that I can’t remember). It was a lot of fun also because of the live entertainment! First there were a musician with a singer/dancer that did Moroccan music, after that there were two other musicians followed by a first belly dancer and a second one afterwards. The belly dancer went around the tables making people dance, it was really fun! In the menu we also had a dessert of our choice plus mint tea and more pastries (cookies). I would totally recommend it!!
Good food (catered for vegan girlfriendwith entertainment. Went here as part of a day trip to Marrakech, chilled atmosphere with dancers. Table service was good and fast. Prices seemed reasonable (drinks only food was prepaiddifficult to spot from outside.
As we werent able to find hour planned restaurant we fortunately stumbled across Dar Essalam. Even without reservation the more than welcoming staff was able to find us a table. The location, which supposedly used to be an old palace, is stunning and you are emmediatly set into the sensation of a "thousand and one night". Besides serving delicious classic Moroccan kitchen they also had belly dancers and live music for entertainment.Really good experience if you are looking for that "Moroccan fairytale" sensation.
Celebrated a close friends birthday here. Interior was gorgeous, just stunning. Food was lovely. Had live music and belly dancers. Staff were great, created a relaxed atmosphere then helped us celebrate the birthday 🎂
This is a great place for the music and belly dancing show. They feature multiple musicians and three different types of dancers. Beware the belly dancers surprise people into participating in the show so if thats not your thing make sure you firmly state no. While there they pressured a few people into dancing. It was a fun night and good show. Three stars because the food was just ok. There is much better food elsewhere.
This restaurant was absolutely AMAZING!!! One of my favorite dining experiences during my time in Morocco. We stumbled upon it by accident during our trip around the Medina and marked it on our map to come back and visit for dinner because it was the 25th of December and they had a Christmas tree. We were not disappointed (except that we hadnt found it sooner! The food was tasty (chicken kebabs come highly recommendedand there were shows performed most of the time (dancers and music). It was a fantastic experience!
Really nice experience, recommend to everyone. The only bad thing is, maybe because I was in a large group, they took so much time to serve us. We were the first to be sitted in the room but most other groups left before us, by the time we got to the first course other people were already leaving, we waited at least half an hour between finishing the course and someone coming to ask us what we wanted next, in the mean time the entertainment was great, maybe a too loud but I still liked it. Im not anoyed but we did get left to dry for long periods. The food was great, the best I had in the city.
Location is amazing, entirely decorated in Arabic style. Rooms are magnificent and comfortable also for big groups. Food was fine. We spent a dinner there, and the experience was cool. During the entire dinner we have been entertained by a few artists: dancers and music player (local style and local music of course). Restaurant is very centric. Easy to reach 10min walking from the main square.
The dance and music program is amazing. The atmosphere and location/architecture is unique and I would definitely go there again if I visit Marrakech again. However the Vegetarian dishes were a bit disappointing. So if you are a vegetarian go there but do not expect super tasty food.
The venue is stunning, and the show is very fun, but the food is not up there. It feels like one of those places where tour operators take you to "experience" the culture, doesnt feel authentic. It was good fun, though.
The food was really good, amazing scenery, and great shows. Loved the belly dancing. The staff was nice and efficient. Its commercial and for tourists but still we had a great time! Thats the truth :)
I’ve come here twice with Indonesian groups that I led. The last one was in end of November 2017. Located in the middle of the Souk (marketand only five minute walk from/to Bahia Palace, Dar Es Salam is like an oasis. The exterior part looks nothing but a humble building but once we enter the door, we know that it is a very nice place. Yes, it’s an exquisite restaurant. The interior reflects the beauty of Moroccan architecture. This restaurant was not only giving us a culinary experience but also a cultural experience. The food was super delicious. We really enjoyed Chicken Tagine. There was another big group eating almost at the same time as our group and I guess that’s why there was a live music of two guys playing traditional instrument on stage and a beautiful woman came up as a belly dancer. Very cultural and entertaining! The restaurant has a small room for prayer, for 8-10 people, in the second floor. But, since, some of participants are senior citizen and had difficulty to walk up, the restaurant finally provided a space at one of its dining rooms on the ground floor for the senior citizens to pray. Thank you for the thoughtful consideration.I definitely would love to come back with more groups in the near future.-Halal Restaurant-
