Dar Batḥa (Arabic: دار البطحاء, pronounced Bat-ḥaa), or Qasr al-Batḥa (Arabic: قصر البطحاء), is a former royal palace in the city of Fez, Morocco. The palace was commissioned by the Alawite Sultan Hassan I in the late 19th century and completed under his successor Abdelaziz. It was transformed into a museum of historical arts and crafts in 1915, with a collection that today includes more than 6,500 objects. The palace is located near Bab Bou Jeloud, on the western edge of Fez el-Bali, the citys old medina district, and near Fez el-Jdid, the new medina district.Another historic palace, Dar al-Beida (Arabic: الدار البيضاء), was originally part of the same complex but was separated for other official uses in the twentieth century and remains today an official residence, inaccessible to the public.
Nice place to enjoy Moroccan culture.
Lovely ceramic museum and peaceful garden
Closed for one year I was told.....
Closed as of Nov 2019. The guard said the museum has been closed for about 8 months now and will be closed for approximately another year.
Perfect for few days as holidays in fes.nice food like the lamb. Mariam is nice manager
Closed for renovations, google needs to update!!
Great place ! Good choice for families, excellent service .
Excellent food. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. Had lunch once and returned for dinner.
Had dinner there as recommended by the guy at our Riad. Overpriced tourist trap (3x the reasonable amount youd pay anywhere elsewith the saddest, blandest tasting meal Ive had in my trip. Dishes were dirty. STAY AWAY!
It wasn’t listed on google that it was closed for renovations
Giving it three stars to be fair but reviewing to let others know that the museum was closed for renovations. There was no indication as to when they will be complete.
The garden and the grounds were pretty awesome. The museum in itself doesnt have english labels on displayed items and no explanation of the things that we were seeing, which wasnt an exciting experience.
Nice little museum and an awesome garden, largely overlooked by the teeming tourist hordes.
Beautiful old palace with a stunning courtyard
We were taken to this restaurant by a worker from our Riad, like most other customers that evening. The place is quite beautiful, but it’s expensive, the food is not very good, and the staff isn’t very pleasant. The manager or owner sat grumpily in a corner overseeing the room and bickering with the waiters over the tips (the service is not included). Go elsewhere
A nice big palace with an interior garden and a small collection of artifacts. Posted explanations are very light, but theres a guard in every room whos happy to answer questions. There were hardly any visitors when we came, so it was nice and quiet.
An interesting palace in the Moroccan style worthca visit for 10 dirham. The collection is, in my opinion, a bit modest but anyway interesting too
Nice museum with some small pottery, metal, wood, and illuminated texts displayed. The 10 Dh entry is work it just for the beautiful building and the gardens that the collection is housed in, and the kitten and cat that were playing with a treat that the polite guard have them. There were only a few others in there mid morning in late November, and no guides looking for hands handouts like others had mentioned. The bathrooms were clean and well-stocked as well (paper and soap.)
Beautiful place. A good breakfast and friendly owners. Offered us mint tea on arrival. Great courtyard views. Only one issue with the shower water drainage blocked but otherwise room was clean with a functioning heater
Interesting but not a lot of exhibits.
Lovely museum, cheap entry. Amazing craftwork, beautiful garden. Would be even better with an investment to improve displays. Would be prepared to pay higher entry fee after that.
Respite from bustle of town. Im usually not impressed by things like this but the exhibited artifacts seem a cut above the rest.
The old medina style sharming by colours
Small exposition, nice garden, small entrance fee(10MAD).But be aware of guides, they arent part of museum and after 10min of poor English they will ask for money.
Lovely gardens, beautiful buildings limited museum exhibits.
A bit challenging to find the door, but worth it. Incredible garden.
Not a lot there. Some pretty bits and it is something to do. No English translations either so to know what anything is you can hire a guide. Got about 10 minutes for 50dr which wasnt great.
Taken there for dinner (marched!from our Riad in the Medina. Pleasant staff. Gorgeous building. Food both boring - sadly missing in the spicing one expects from Moroccan food, imagination - one of the most boring meals we had, and incredibly expensive - about 3x most places and at least 59% more than most tourist markups. And when the bill came, not only did they say they didn’t take cards (a liebut after incredibly inconsistent and not great service - asked for a tip FOUR times. If your Riad takes you here - I suggest they are getting a kick-back at your expense. *AVOID*
See the original craftwork from ancient FezBrilliant weaving and embroidery. Carpets pottery and metal work.Cool green central garden 10 DJ admission
Wonderful place in Fes. Just outside the blue gate. Beautiful gardens. An oasis in the hustle and bustle of the city. Small entry fee. Might need to leave your rucksacks with the security. Museum houses interesting clothes, carpets and crockery mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Would need to set aside 2/3 hours for the visit.
Loved the place, the tree in the courtyard was spectacular to see.
The museum itself is a nice palace with a beautiful and quiet garden. The exhibition of old pottery without any descriptions available in english isnt really worth the visit.
Housed in a wonderful 19th-century summer palace and converted to a museum in 1915, the Batha Museum houses an excellent collection of traditional Moroccan arts and crafts. The highlight of the museum is the superb ceramic collection dating from the 14th century to the present.
Quiet place but nothing to see here
Fabulous place to call home in Fès. From top to bottom, the people, the room and the restaurant are all top notch.
Charming museum, well worth the entry price. About one hours amusement, unless you want to spend more time in the central gardens. Note that they appear to like to turn off the lights in the displays; if this is the case and the nearby guards do not speak your language, they will get the hint when you break out the flashlights. It also appears no one will object if you manipulate the light switches yourself. Make sure to illuminate the ceilings, as the building is as beautiful and interesting as the displays.
***BED BUG WARNING***Travellers beware!!!I recently stayed at Palais Batha in the Medina in Fez, Morocco. Not only was I attacked by bed bugs, but when I reported it to management, they accused me of bring it on their property. Please save yourself the headaches as there are quite a few better properties around the surrounding blocks.
Old doors into the Medina
Small but interesting museum. The signs provide little detail, and are in French and Arabic only. Theres a lovely garden in the center. I spent about 45 minutes in a slow, methodical walk through.
Very nice ....love it.
Beautiful sight and building, but as said earlier, he descriptions could be more clear and informative. Not many language options either.
A fine collection, but the descriptions in French and Arabic are very basic, just mentioning the era and style. It is hard to appreciate what you are seeing here unless you already know a lot about the regions history. Nice building and grounds, though.
Very nice hotel, to be honest from the outside even you cant notice where the hotel is, I mean it doesnt seems there is a hotel around when you on the street but inside wow it is completely different world rooms makes you fee likel you stay 5 star rooms
adult 10 dirham, children 9 dirham. small museum but enough to take a glimpse of history of fez. beautiful garden with serenity. less visited but recommendable
This spot is labelled and advertised as a museum however it has little in the way of information to tell anyone about the place. There is some nice garden and amazing veranda areas however the artifacts were very poor and didnt really say much of anything about this to be honest. It cost 10dh to get in and I would only recommend this if you were killing some time. However please note on a Friday between 1300-1400 the place is closed for Friday prayers.
