Damas in Montreal

Delicious food! So fresh and flavorful. Just the salad and the appetizers are well worth the trip and their main courses are just as good. Plus excellent service.

As a Syrian whose family is in the restaurant business, I feel like Ive tasted the best Syrian food. I feel humbled by the artistry and presentation of Damas. The taste was outstanding but the presentation of each dish was just spectacular.Then came the service. Our server George, the sommelier Daniel and the head bar master Amjad went above and beyond to make us feel special. We enjoyed the tasting menu and wine pairings tremendously.I wish we lived in Montreal so we can frequent Damas more often. But alas we are meant to enjoy this on our special trips from NYC for a truly memorable evening.

Amazing restaurant. The ambiance, the service and the food is just top notch. Every dish we had was delicious. The grilled meat platter was our favourite, expensive, but worth it! We were two to share the platter along with two "entrees" and it was more than enough food. The meat was perfectly cooked, good portions and amazing flavours. The rack of lamb stood out to me the most. It was our second time here and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing experience. The place is beautiful, the staff is very friendly and, most importantly, the food is delicious. We got the tasting menu with a wine pairing and some drinks. Really recommend.

Overrated. Overpriced. The food was good but never worth this price. 8 pieces of chicken for 46$ ? If you think its worth it its because you never had real homey arab food.Our main waiter only came to take the order and we only saw him at the end for the bill. Didn’t check if everything was ok with the food or if we needed anything else.Very disappointed about my experience. Will never come back.

One of the top restaurants of the city for sure if not the one ! In my Personnal top 5 . Quality of the food , preparation and cooking is surreal! The presentation and the sauces are just insane , plus the quality of staff is just perfect ! Take the menu if you go to enjoy the most of it ! Congratulations to the staff and to the chef ! Chef you are one of the best !!

This place is so easy to review, just get in the restaurent and order. Everything is delicious, staff is perfect, there’s a cozy&heated terrasse outside. Cocktails are very interesting : there’s always 1 or 2 ingredients that brings you in Syria. I’d advise to try the tasting menu with wine pairing for people who want to spend a good evening. Any dish is perfect whether it’s taste or dressing etc . Wines are from unusual places (Albania, Greece…), it makes you discover new flavors. This restaurent is a must have in your portfolio 😉

This was our second time visiting Damas. The food is so amazing! We ended up ordering too much as the portion sizes were fairly large but it was worth it. The salad on the menu is the best salad I’ve had ever make sure to order it!

Food is delicious, but certainly expensive. Meat is nicely cooked and tender.Its probably obvious, but the meat platter (not in the pictureshas a variety of the meat entrees, but less of each than if ordered separately.

Nice mid eastern restaurant, nice ambiance and service. its definitely worth trying. however i would say i wont come a second time.we ordered the tasting menu and its a bit over priced, and the dish is a bit repetitive as almost all the sauce is made from hummus or other beans. the first few dished felt amazing but then it dose get less interesting as taste and texture is kinda similar.

Fine dinning, never tried Syrian Food before, service was great, food is well prepared and different than all other restaurants, a must try for visitors.

this was my 1st dinning experience trying Syrian cuisine. I tried the tasting menu. The lamb was by far my favorite dish. very well seasoned and cooked.i giving 2 stars for the overall experiencegood: wine pairing was excellent.- food : was Ok. the flavours were same from once dish to another. i was expecting varieties of flavours and them being bold. food portions were generous.- service: it was not up-to par. Some tasting plates were brought before we even finished the previous course.dessert was not sweet enough.

Damas is located in the heart of Outremont. This restaurant is one of a kind. The best of the best restaurants in Montreal with delicious Syrian food and impeccable service. The prices are high but for good reason. Nothing compares to Damas, their food is fresh, delicious, and most of all memorable! Reserve 2 months in advance as it’s very hard to reserve but worth the wait!

Edit: Gave it a 2 star initially, now giving it a 1 star. Its been 2 nights since I went and I have food poisoning from their beef tartare. I have NOT eaten anything else that was different aside from Damas. Incredibly upset. Worst culinary experience ever!*********Sorely sorely disappointed with my experience here. Chose to do the $135 (per persontasting menu and the food was subpar. The first dish was Pastirma and a quail egg which looked good but immediately tasted overly salty. No big deal, i thought - its just the first dish, perhaps it was meant to taste this way, since air-cured meat is typically a bit on the saltier/seasoned side; there was cheese inside which helped to balance it out but still..quite salty. The next dish was the Fattoush and Halloumi: nothing special. Just a salad (that you can make from hometossed in a citrus balsamic vinaigrette and 4 pcs of goat halloumi. The beef tartare was mediocre.. was a slab of cold "seasoned" beef with some onion-- not a fan of how basic it tasted. Nothing about it was elevated for "fine dining". The falafel...its hard to screw up a falafel right? Wrong. Mine was UNNECESSARILY SALTED AGAIN! The hummus and babaganoush/ beet/eggplant dip was yummy for sure, but why the heck was my falafel salty?! Why! It was as if someone did a final shake of kosher salt over the falafel before serving it. At this point, Im very hungry still and was only getting more upset. The grilled shrimp and octopus arrived and I was excited only to be annoyed again at how SALTY (see the pattern yet?the shrimp was. Now, I felt so parched by how salty everything was, i ordered a tea. The server brought out my tea in what seemed like a fancy shot glass..now maybe this is how tea is served in Syria, but I just thought that I wouldve had at least a teapot to refill it myself.. considering how dinky the glass was. (Managed to get about 2 gulps of tea). The octopus had no bounce..the texture was like none other. It wasnt chewy..it was more like octopus steak than it was grilled. Again....salty. Finally the lamb arrived. My partners lamb was blue and just seeing that compelled me to lose my appetite. He enjoyed it but I did not. The ONLY thing on this tasting menu that was ok was the desert which was a sweet pastry filled with ricotta cheese. The portions are so small, its a joke. Overall 2/5 due to the soaring price for what COULD have been a great dinner. STOP SALTING YOUR FOOD TOO MUCH!!!! As you can see, i stopped taking photos because it went downhill and my experience was tainted by salt. Yes im extremely salty at how salty my food was, im sorry. For someone to ruin delicacies by over salting it...cmon now. Do better.

Amazing Service, and food! Our waiter Alan was the best. We ordered as cold appetizer the Mouhamarra and Kibbeh Naayeh as well as a hot appetizer Hummus shawarma and no words to say how satistied we were. drinks were also soo delicious ,and without forgetting the dessert: Kunefe (its a must to try!!and the Halawet El Jin.We already booked our next dinner there since we did not have room to try the main dishes!Definetly comming here more often! Thanks to the entire team, and recommend this place to annyone wanting mediterranean food

Everyone who knows Damas, know that reservations are not quickly to book, you better plan your visit there in advance. Definitely worth it the food, the humus freshly made is delicious, the bread is SUPER GOOOD!

The drinks were delicious and very original. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and everything was great. Each dish was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. The quantity was more than enough as we brought back lots of leftovers. The sommelier was super friendly and gladly answered all our questions. Its a bit pricey, but I would say the experience was worth it. We will definitely come back.

Simply amazing, a true culinary experience worthy of repeating over and over.We ordered the fattouch, pistachio fried kibbeh, grilled kibbeh, Fattet Mozat, Samke Harra, Mixed Grilled Meat Platter, Kunafa, coffee, and mint tea.Except for the coffee, everything was hot, full of flavor, and exquisite.I highly recommend this restaurant.

What a great dining experience . Everything was unbelievably delicious, 1 course after the next. Best meal while we were in Montreal for 5 days.

We got the tasting menu, came in with high expectations, and were disappointed. If I came back, I’d skip the tasting and get the Fattet Mosat (lamb shoulderand the baba ghannouj (easily best I’ve ever had), plus try a few other things. This would be so delicious and satisfying that I would hardly notice if the service was off.As for service with the tasting menu: shockingly bad. Poor pacing, too many expediters/waiters (6+who collectively couldn’t keep track of where we were in the meal or what we might want next.If I think about Damas as a delicious, albeit pricey, neighborhood restaurant with a few standout dishes, and probably hit or miss service, I’d be stoked to go back and, as that, it’s five stars. But is it worth a trip, a detour? Well, maybe if you’re excited about lamb shoulder in yoghurt sauce with rice and a superlatively good baba ghannouj, but otherwise, no.

I think the Tasting menu is overpriced, and the inside ambiance was not so good, even a bit too noisy for this level of pricing (one detail to mention is that in the two hours of dinner, I entered the washroom trice and have seen the vanity place getting from clean to very watery while no one came to clean the countertop, which means lack of paying attention to details ).Taste-wise, it was generally good but I think the shrimp was too salty, others may like it but I don’t, and neither did my friend.The service was good and met the standard for that price, while, I do think the restaurant hired too many waiters, and just for my table, I’ve seen FOUR different waiters serving us, which I think was not necessary….Anyway, I personally think that the whole journey was not as good as I expected, especially the noisy environment and people passing by so close to your back which was quite annoying (the waiter even bumped my seat back twice when he/she passed by).In a word, will not go back again and would go the B…. (I don’t want to sound like a hater sent by other restaurants 😂in Laval for half the price for a similar environment and taste.

One of Montreal’s best restaurants.The food is superior! We had an amazing server Mercedez. Her attention to detail is outstanding and on point. She knows the menu so well and accurately. Not only did she know about the menu but also the alcohol and cocktails. She is so easy to talk to talk to and makes you feel so welcome!Thank you Mercedez and Damas for making my first experience at Damas amazing. It definitely will not be the last time I come here.

Incredible food, atmosphere, and service. Restaurant is packed and it is definitely a testament to the quality of the food. Highly recommend the pomegranate virgin mojito if you dont drink but want a nice beverage!

Definitely a great place to try middle eastern food. We tried a few things, the cheese bureck and the lamb were AMAZING. Prices are high and I think this is the main reason not to give 5 stars. Syrian food and middle eastern food and hospitality is known to be generous welcoming and affordable. I realize that this is a high end place but it’s a bit too much. Also, if you choose to seat outside it’s definitely a different experience than sitting inside. The inside decor and atmosphere is way nicer. Outside seating is on regular plastic chairs which is not appropriate to a place like this and the decor is minimal.

Hands down the best food ever. You wont be disappointed. We sat by the bar, we were taken very good care of. Service was amazing, and the food well I have no words to describe how amazing it tasted. We did the tasting menu and they managed to customize some of the meals because we dont eat lamb. Drinks were on point!This restaurant is a must when visiting Montreal!

R u middle eastern and you miss home, come here and you will never regret it. The waiters, food and the ambiance it will exceed your expectations. The only bad thing about it, is that you need a reservation before you visit them. Which almost always full especially if you like me looking for a reservation at the last minute. Totally worth the visit.

This is my favorite restaurant in Montreal. Everything is extremely tasty - their lamb is out of this world! Enjoyed the mint drink as well. Great quality, flavourful dishes, beautiful ambiance and good service.

First of all it is beautifully and taste fully decorated, it transports you in another country. The ambiance is very charming, the staff is extremely professional and courteous. The know the menu inside out and can give you great suggestions.Now lets talk about the main subject, the food, as appetizers we had the Damas Fattoush, the pureed eggplant and the octopus warm salad. The fattoush was so different than your typical fattoush, the put a twist on it and they brought It to a whole other level. I have tried octopus before but dont like the fishy taste and smell to it. This dish was nothing I had tasted before, the seasoning was perfect, the dressing was so delicate and tasty, a must try.As a main dish I had the shish taouk, chicken so juicy it was accompanied but sumac fries. WOW! It had a sour garlic taste to it, it was fantastic. I had also ordered a side of yogurt salad which tasted like tsaziki but better.Last but not least for dessert I had menthe tea and a fried cheese that had a bit of rose water. ToBe honest i didnt know what to make of the desert, I am still thinking about it. You know when you eat something and you dont really know if you like it or not so you keep eating. Thats what happened to me.This place is not just a place to go eat, it an experience. Prices are high but you get the quality to go with it.

Amazing restaurant - highly recommend. It’s generous fine-dining, which is extremely rare. The quality of the food is phenomenal; the flavours are amazing and the staff takes such good care of you, they’re super attentive and extremely hygienic. The restaurant decor is so authentic and beautiful. One of my favourite restaurants. Amazing experience, always.

I don’t know which idiot rated this wonderful hidden gem a 1 star. What drive you to wake up in the morning and be upset with the exemplary service and top notch almost to die for authentic middle eastern food. I say almost to die for because desert first then death. I recommend you ask your server, they will take care of you.

Went for the first time yesterday. This restaurant takes the Syrian food to another level. Best Syrian food I had in Canada. Service was great. The waiters were very knowledgeable about the menu and very professional. It was pricey but it was worth every penny.

A perfect meal and experience at Damas, as always. The cocktails are impeccable (especially the Ginger Rose Fizz), the dishes are gorgeous and delicious, and the service is amazing. In particular, John was incredibly thoughtful in explaining the menu, recommending dishes, and selecting a beautiful wine for us. While the meal and restaurant are amazing unto themselves, it was truly his service that made the experience so special. Easily my favourite restaurant in Montreal, it just doesn’t get better than this!!

Best food I have ever tasted. We chose the menu dégustation with the wine pairing and it was just perfect. The service was wonderful. We were supposed to have the table for 2h30, but we ended up staying a little over 3h and no one said anything. I highly recommend it, but make reservations in advance!

Words cant describe the richness and authenticity of the original Syrian flavour here, service is amazing, professional, staff is very welcoming, we were lucky to have an amazing service by our waitress (Mercedeswho made our dinner very special, A must visit place, top of the list so far in Montreal, in Quebec even in Canada, another Level , thank you DAMAS

Excellent all around. We sat at the terrace outside: nice infra red and flame heaters. Good food, good service, nice decoration (must be newly renovated). We had the menu degustation and liked all the dishes except for the desert. I also found all the dishes a bit on the "lemoney sour" side (syrian taste?)

This was my first time here and it’s now my favourite restaurant in Canada. Excellent food and service! Highly recommend the lamb (all of them)! For dessert I chose the ice cream because we had already eaten too much. I usually don’t order ice cream for dessert, but this time I didn’t regret about it. It was a really nice surprise.

On many lists as one of the best restaurants in Montreal and rightly so! A great way to dive into Mediterranean, Arabic and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Impressive establishment. The decor and vibe are visually grandiose. We got the 10-meal tasting menu and it covered a wide range of flavours, my personal favorites being the Fattouch and the Fattet Mozat.

Amjad and Miro are passionate cocktail masters who make their cocktails with love. The drinks are unusual and wonderful. Miro suggested that we order baba ghanouj and fatteh makdous which were wonderful and fresh. Delicious!! Brilliant service and fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended. I love this place!!!The moment we decide on visiting Montreal, I always call in to reserve a table, as usually they are busy and you need to reserve in advance.The seating area is beautiful and vintage with lot’s if Syrian imprints.The food is delicious!! Second time visiting Montreal and had to go back to Damas as the first thing on my itinerary! Everything was a 10/10 and did not disappoint us whatsoever. Service is great, ambience of the restaurant is also great, and food is always amazing. Still my most favourite restaurant ever!

Hands down one of the best places of Syrian food I’ve ever been to.The food is insanely good; drinks are fantastic, portions are perfect, excellent ambiance, a beautiful venue, and outstanding service.We ordered the degustation menu, and it was perfectly planned - order and times of serving. It was a fantastic idea to come to this place.The lamb was perfectly cooked. One of the best lambs I’ve ever had. Fantastic falafel and tártara.You should definitely come. It is a fantastic place to go for a business dinner and suitable for a date and sharing food.

Absolutely magnificent. Our server George was incredible, he was very patient explaining the menu in great detail and answering all the questions we had regarding the dishes. The food was incredible and every dish was cooked to perfection. The ambiance and feel of the restaurant was nice as well, the decor was very nice. Im a huge fan of Damas and I will definitely be spreading the word.

My first time dining here. We didnt have reservations and managed to get a table for 2 just as they were opening at 5pm.The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and calming. The waiters and waitresses did such an excellent job describing what some of the menu items were. It being my first time my friend wanted me to try many different dishes.We got the mixed meat platter for 2-3 people, (we were only 2and it was mouthwatering. Definitely a great plate for sharing. We also had the lamb dumplings, fried halloumi, lentil soup, fattoush, and the kunaffah for dessert. I have only one thing I could say, which isnt even negative. The kunaffah was a little dry. I think maybe their style uses a lot less of the clear sweet syrup. Everything else was absolutely amazing. Service was top notch. I love the brief description of every dish as its being brought out. Keep it up! (Came from Ottawa for this)

It is a very special restaurant, the decor is stunning, food delicious. We ate the pescatarian menu for 3 people, at $125 per person. It is perfect for a date night, staff is friendly, but prepare for the price tag, for me it was worth it for the overall experience. I loved the Mediterranean Sea bass, cooked to perfection.

Incredibly tasty Syrian food! We had the tasting menu and they bring it out in chunks, a few courses at a time. Because of this, the pace is more frenetic than expected - not entirely unwelcome but something to know in advance.Of the dishes, the braised lamb and quail egg sliders were highlights, but the chicken was a real miss - far too dry and not tasty when compared to the other courses. The service was decent but a little below expectation for the price.

First time at Damas (and first time having Syrian foodand it met all the hype! Easily one of the of the best restaurants in Montreal.The beet spread had the perfect amount of sweetness and the hummus was savoury and rich. Both paired so well with the bread!The octopus in the octopus salad was extremely tender which is rare in an octopus dish. The meat platter had good variety with the lamb chops being the standout!
