Dali Monastery or Dali Gomba is also known as the Druk Thupten Sangag Choeling Monastery, India, West Point, Darjeeling, West Bengal 734102, India, Ilam
Ornate, colorful Buddhist monastery with art & sculpture, including a giant Buddha figure.
Stunning! The monastery is spectacular. The coffee shop sucks! A charming facility but nothing to eat.The museum is interesting.
Calming atmosphereMuseum is great too with display of various types related to tibetians n busdhists 💯 and this place also hosted Dalai lama for few days . Should visit for sure.😄
It is a nice place to be at. I dont know much about monasteries. But it was a peaceful place. The monks were nice and the atmosphere was calm. I would definitely go there again if Im in Darjeeling.
I had a great time visiting this monastery. Its peaceful and serene there, you are mostly left to yourself. There is one old man in the first temple who would bless you while giving you the most beautiful smile.
A spiritual environment will be found in this temple of Buddhist. You have to buy ticket to visit the museum inside the campus. In the museum there are lots of things you will find, like manuscripts, masks, pot and statue etc
One of the best monastery , loved the life there
One of the great location nearby the darjeeling. The place has a great architecture and a museum. You can also taste some good coffee here. The place has a peace by its own . Highly recommended to visit the place on your journey.
temple and its area are very good. Best place for photo shoot point. Coffee ☕ shop is also available in this campus. School is available in this campus.
Peaceful and scenic. Do note they charge minimal entry fees and main temple inside is closed around 1-3 pm.
One of the best tourist attraction in Darjeeling. The view from the monastery is really amazing and mesmerising. The monastery is also very beautiful. The also have a museum in which they have showcase some of their traditions and past life. If you are planning to travel darjeeling then add this beautiful place in your plan.
Peace. You get peace in this place ..Loved it ..
I am so amazed by the buddhist culture. Bells and chants of prayer were so soothing to ears. Definitely purify the soul.. Another raw beauty of Darjeeling. The view of Darjeeling from the monastery is so deadly beautiful i must say. Clouds playing by the mountain top. So soothing to eyes.
This is the awesome religious place to visit.the meusium is too good that we experience the past.❤️💟
Very good museum to see. U have France football players world Cup signed football with zidane jersey. Thats the attraction.
This is a very calm and peaceful place.
It is very beautiful place, also you can get good view of Darjeeling form the top of this Monastery.
I have been to literally hundreds of monasteries in India, Nepal and Bhutan and never have I found one which closes everyday for lunch time. Totally absurd. Incase you are planning to come, please note that 11.30 to 12.30 the monastery is closed. I reached at 11.35 and was told by the guard that I will have to come after 12.30. Meanwhile I saw one local group of Nepali speaking people enter after me. I asked the guard why were they allowed in, and he answered that they were there to do some puja. I noticed the group was in jeans and clicking pictures inside the monastery. Clearly they were not there for any puja. The guard made a mockery out of me and fellow tourists who were also denied entry. The whole concept of a religious building completely shutting down for lunch is ridiculous. I am fully respectful of Tibetan Buddhism and its culture but I cant understand this. Is this a branch of the SBI bank or what?! I am never going there again.
Beautiful architecture but Monastery gates closed for indoor visits.
Very serene environment looking over the hills and the toy trains passing by is a truly enriching experience. The peace and serenity this place gives you is speechless.
Its original name is Druk Sangag Choling Monastery...but popularly known as Dali Monastery...beautiful one...must see the Druk Padma Karpo Museum
A Drukpa Kagyud Monastery belonging to the Kagyupa Order of Tibetan Buddhism is the Dali Monastery at Dali – on the route between Ghoom and Darjeeling at an altitude of 7000 ft above sea level. The Dali Gompa is perched atop a hillock between Darjeeling Railway Station and Ghoom Railway Station of Darjeeling City. Dali Gompa was Built by Kyabje Thuksey Rimpoche in 1971. This Monastery is the largest in the area – in terms of headcount of resident Monks. 210 Tibetan Buddhists of the Drukchen sect stay at the Dali Gompa. This Gompa also had the good fortune of having his Highness Dalai Lama spend three days in 1993 at the Gompa teaching about the various facets of Tibetan Buddhism and Culture. The Monastery also houses a vast collection of books on Buddhism and Philosophy in its Library. The most popular part of this Monastery which draws huge crowds is the Hall of big, cylindrical 6 ft high golden Tibetan Prayer Wheels which the Monks keep turning while offering their Prayers
There is a Rs20 per person entry fee and for that you get to see the museum (no photography allowed inside the museum). The museum is in itself small but contains lots of wonderful artefacts. The 1998 Finals Ball signed by the France team is also on display along with a jersey of Zidane but like I said no photography. The other part is the monastery which is in itself beautiful and serene. You also get great views from the top of Darjeeling. Definitely worth a visit.
One of the beautiful monasteries in Darjeeling. The view is just amazing.
Well when we reached..it was closed. But the view was spectacular. In Darjeeling you must visit the monasteries for a very peaceful and relaxing time.
Very peaceful place... The vibe is very different.
Beautiful Monastery in Darjeeling with a great view of the mountains and such peace
Great place to visit with scenic views and great architecture.
We had visited this monastery when the pandemic was going on. So, due to covid situation main part of the monastery was closed. Only few small sections of the monastery was open where we could prayer wheel, chanting of mantras and other Buddhist daily rituals.Locally it is called as Dali Gumba- Gumpa is really beautiful and peaceful! We do not need any permission or entrance fee or donation to enter the premise. This monastery also seems giving teaching and training to different young boys of different age groups who will become one day Lamas!I think in this place, many shootings were also done! In the same compound there is a museum where you have to pay Rs 50 as an entrance fee.It also has café- restaurant in the same premises where you can have meals and snacks!Totally satisfied and happy to be here!
Beautiful Monastery. Nicely maintained. Awesome ambience. A serene place altogether!
I think all the monastery well see and visit all over Darjeeling ... Each of them is a symbol of peace prosperity and a mesmerizing stare. This monastery is one of them. The inside of it is just ❤️ . I took a picture though it is not allowed but if you check my photos youll definitely realise how beautiful it is.
Built on a location which one call the epitome of bliss. The breeze, the clouds, the peaceful atmosphere and the pretty monastery.
Very peaceful and humble experience. Go there sir for a while follow their rules regarding photography respect their privacy and have a chat with monks if you want any information they will be more than happy to help you.
Located just 5 Kms from Darjeeling town towards Batasiya Loop. The Toy train line passes by the boundary wall and is a good spot to watch it pass, albeit the honking of the engine can be irritating. The entrance to the temple is free but the museum is charges Rs 50/- per person. From the entry gate the trek towards the middle level is quite steep and can be difficult with tourist having knee or back problem. In between the temple and the gate there is a Cafe, where vehicles can reach. Thus if anyone has mobility challenges they can request the guard and can come to this point. There are multiple stairs too from this point to the temple and thus the climb is not a cakewalk. Tired tourists can stop at the Cafe shop( King Palijor coffee shop which is run by the monks and is a perfect spot for a dose of caffeine and snacking. The actual name of the Dali Monastery is Druk Sangag Choling Monastery. The beautiful colour painted walls and it sculptures immediately catches the attention of one and all. Inspite of the steep climb the beautiful wall paintings took away my fatigue. The white monastery in located in front of a hill with large Alpine trees is a magnificent sight. This monastery was built in 1971 and also houses a school for children. Footwear has to be removed to enter the temple and photography inside the sanctum is not allowed. The premises is open on all days from early morning till evening for tourists. Recommended duration is 30 mins
One of the most beautiful monastery I have ever seen..got to witness a ceremony which was being held inside. Lots of pet dogs too stay in the premises..will visit again
Had a great experience at the Monastery. Met the students and learnt about their life. Some of them have joined at the very young age of seven. Hats off to them.
After completing the main attractions of Darjeeling, these are one of the places you like to spend if you have time.Monastery entry is free but museum is chargeable 50 rupees per adult as on the day of review.Good for a short visit, but it could have been better organised.
This is a big Monastery near Darjeeling city. Visitors entry is free of cost. This Monastery is very old in age and established on 1971. Must include this Monastery when you are planning for Darjeeling tour.
One of the most beautiful monastery that I have visited so far.Their museum is also a must visit.
A lesser visited place in Darjeeling as most of the tourists visit Ghoom Monastery, while coming back from Tiger Hill. This monastery is on the way to Batasia Loop form Darjeeling on the main Road.Need to move up a few stairs to reach the Prayer Hall. A huge idol of Lord Buddha, & more than 100 monks reciting chants together along with Tibetan drums & horns.Just amazing. Its a big monastery by the roadside. One can easily see the monastery as they enter Darjeeling. Its a very peaceful place and should be on visiting list of everybody.
Very holy place and you will find peace. Surrounding is beautiful. Tourist are not allow to enter in temple. But can able to get pics and understand traditional very closely.
A little bit new monestry with respect to Ghoom Monestry but it is built with every aspect of future in mind.No photography is allowed inside but if you can once go inside the temple you will be amazed and the inner peace and self retrospection will gasp you for the greater good.PEACE PEACE PEACE
When we visited it was closed, so couldnt get inside the monestry. Very peaceful place amidst of busy hill station. Thanks to team ZEVFY Eco-friendly Delivery, on completion of 5000 deliveries in February 2021, at Siliguri, we decided to take a day off in the month of March 2021 and vist prominent landmarks of Darjeeling with our entire team.Places one must visit while visiting Darjeeling are:Eagle Creek, Kurseong,Batasia Loop, (try to be at around 12-12:30pm to see the toy train in action)Dali Monestry,Himalayan Mountaineering Museum,Mahakal Temple,Rock Garden.
Serene, but a bit busy and slightly noisy being just beside the main road and the Darjeeling-Ghoom train track. The Monastery is relatively new in construction, and also features a museum (was closed due to lunch time at around 11.45AM), and also a cafeteria.
The Druk Thupten Sangag Choling Monastery, commonly known as Dali Monastery is famous for its Buddhism murals, paintings, documents, and records. If you want to learn more about the religion and their culture, head over to this Monastery and you will have all your answers.

Its my native place but I never got the opportunity to visit until this time. And I was mesmerized. Its a beautiful monastery. So serene so peaceful. Do visit their souvenir shop they have a reasonable range of beautiful collections ranging from crockery, key chains, bracelets, wind chimes, incense sticks, accessories etc.
A beautiful monastery beside derjeeling fire service station. It is a big compound photography is not allowed inside the temple. But outside one can take photograph.opening time is 6.am to 6 pm in this compound I have found a medical center.though in my visit I found that, main temple is closed.
This is amongst one of the top places to visit in Darjeeling, situated right at the road it is a beautiful and well kept monastery. You can actually see the monks (little ones toodoing their prayers in their own particular way which is rather interesting to watch if you are at the right time here.
The whole place can be described just in one single word - "peaceful". It is really beautiful. Dali monastery is very part of the 3 points tour and is the 2nd destination. The place is really quite and you need to remove your shoes before entering the main building. Worth a visit.
This beautiful, arty, magnificent structure is approximately 6 kms from the center of Darjeeling. It is located on the Hill Cart Road and you cant miss it on your way Darjeeling. A beautiful monastery situated on top of a hill which has astounding views of the mountains and valleys. The ornate front door, the colorful murals on the walls, the giant Buddha are beautiful. There is a cafe in the monastery premises as well, with a souvenir shop inside it. Although the food is not great, the prices are very, very reasonable and can certainly do for a quick snack. The thing that the food is served by a small, enthusiastic and extremely courteous monk...ENJOYED..........
