Daikoku Botany - Japanese restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand
Absolutely amazing. Service, quality of the food, food quantity. Outstanding. Entertainment from the chef was awesome. Definitely 110%+ recommend Daikoku Botany.Keep up your excellent work guys. You rock...
Always loved going there when i was younger, havent been for years though. Decided to have a fun dinner for my special friends birthday, he loved it ! The cook and waiters were lovely, the show was so cool and the food was very very yummy ! Definitely a very nice experience that i recommend 🥰
Amazing food so delicious. First time dining at this place. We really enjoyed it! Our chef was great and the food was yummy. 💖🙂
Had a wonderful and very exotic experience. Felt like travelling without leaving the country! The chef who served us was amazingly skilful and he was from Japan! And since we visited Japan a little while ago - was superb to have a chat with him.
Had dinner with my friends here and as always yummy delicious food and great entertaining chefs. The whole experience of the chef cooking infront of you is such a cool experience and they interact with you. If you love Japanese food this is the place to go 😍👍
Poor booking and reservation policy and service during the lunch time, the online booking system it out of alignment with the in restaurant policy make it confusing customer, tried few times, all with very bad experience and wasting of time.
very fast service, polite and friendly staff. food was fresh and good sized portions. only one or two vegetarian options but delicious nonetheless. recommend.
What a good place to dine whether as a couple or as a group. Was there Thursday lunch and was impressed with wonderful service and high quality food offerings. I received excellent advice for Gluten Free options and I thank the server for this service. More impressive was the fact that Daikoku was short of chefs and only 2 were on duty and the place was busy. All staff worked quickly and efficiently. Well worth a visit.
Always enjoy having lunch in Botany. Great service, tasty food.
Had a great night at the traditional japanese side of the restaurant but found it kind of weird that the restaurant was out of sashimi (except salmonand chicken (it was Friday night and early)! The portion sizes were incredible and tasty - but the downside was that my medium rare beef slices were too big for one bite 🤣 and when I asked for a steak knife to cut it up I was given a butter knife 🤣🤣🤣 eventually I was able to give my plate back to the kitchen where they cut it into reasonable portion sizes. Would eat here again but with slightly lower expectations. Vibe and bar was 👍👍
Service is excellent as usual, but big price hike. Good to see they still take care to seat groups separately
came here for a date night with my partner on the 24/07. the waiter took our order and asked if anyone at the table had any allergies everyone said no except for me, i’m allergic to fish and i told them this. the chef comes out and everything was great and i noticed one of the other couples at our table ordered fish i didn’t really think that much about it because i thought a chef would be careful with cross contamination. i was very wrong, not even an hour later and my face starts coming up in a horrible rash. it’s a good thing i’m not deadly allergic. if u are allergic to anything that’s on the menu please be careful. apart from that the food was good and the chef was very entertaining.
Been here many times over the years, whether it is teppanyaki or just a la carte. Their price is always decent and food is good. Today we had the pork katsu and chicken karaage curry. The chicken was good and tender pieces. The pork was a bit dry and tough. Overall, it was still good. Food came pretty quick, salad was fresh and the miso soup was hot.
A little expensive but the food was delicious, the chef was awesome, I definitely will be going back with my partner
went there with my boyfriend recently for a teppanyaki dinner on a friday. no performance. it seems that they only perform for a very large group and even then, the performance is subpar compared to Kabuki at Stamford Plaza hotel (they keep messing up even with the easy salt/pepper juggling). food is not yr authentic japanese teppanyaki as lots of butter being used. they even put butter for their fried rice (which they serve as a entree and not after your dinner as in other teppanyaki venues). whats worse is my chef burnt the fried rice. the teppan chefs are not japanese but chinese/thai/filipino/other asian nationalities (i cant tell but definitely not japanese).will never return again. oh, the old man at the counter is japanese though, other than that the teppan chefs are very very poor immitations.
Dinner with Entertainment! Celebrated the father in laws birthday at the Teppanyaki table with 9 others. The chef was great and very engaging with everyone at the table, they also catered to our GF mother in law. While the kids were petrified of the fire, it didnt last long. The portions of meat are big. I would highly recommend this place, especially for a birthday.
Celebrated FILs 60th birthday dinner here. Place was nice, airy and very open. Only thing I found annoying was our back to back chairs with other patrons, the hot bbq smell (heads up - you will leave smelling of bbq no doubt lolwe had a new guy serve and cook our food. Great experience for those who want to try something new at a cost. Great family outing though :)
Absolutely love this place definitely one of my favorites! Staff is super kind, nice & accommodating especially the chefs. Food quality is great. Yumyum sauce is definitely my favorite as I’m sure many others aswell
Weve been coming here for ages, the last two times we had the same chef.. hes not very enthusiastic and must be learning how to cook Or just sloppy? Our son was amused and excited with what was going on, he had afew questions but was ignored which was sad to see.2nd.. we had booked for 1pm, we were seated then left for a half hour after ordering. A table arrives after us and their chef was half way through before ours come out to startSteak was average, not really sizzled more left on the side to slowly cook then was cut up and served.. sort of a poached texture.Overall pretty stink experience for our sons first time :(
Really entertaining chef and delish food.Restaurant was quite cold 🥶
Great food, cooked in front of you, great experience, managed to eat only with chopsticks...😅...totally recommended, will be going again.🙂
This is the first time that I put on Google review, but I have to since I am quite annoyed by their service. Our family went there at Waitangi day without reservation. The man is quite reluctant to help, coldly said fully reserved. Second time is today, a normal Saturday. I guess the same person to reply fully booked. I can see people waiting there, I can still see the table available, why cant he ask "do you mind to wait for a while". It is really not like a Japanese reseturant, as we all know Japan does a good job on service. You should really train your staff, as we feel very rude to a customer. Even weve experienced twice. We will never go there any more.
Had dinner there last night and the show was awesome, Food was AMAZING. the staff are friendly especially the cooks, great sense of humor and actually seem like they love their job! The only let down was the strong smell of gas throughout the whole place.
First time coming here. Was a really fun experience and the staff were very nice and also entertainment while food was being cooked in front of you was great. We all ordered the set menu so expect to pay a little on the higher end for this but its worth it.
Wverytime i have gone, my experince has been nothing short of excellent and the chefs have great Humour and Cook Skills.Highly recommend their Daikoku Emperor or seafood choices with yumyum sauce.
Good experience. Aircon struggled with the environment. Dress light. Was asked how I liked my steak, and received well done instead of medium. Allow 1.5 hours.
We had a nice anniversary dinner here. Hadnt been in a while bit it was still as good as ever. The food was deceptively filling. We ordered too much and ate too much. Also left a nice Christmas present for the three ladies sitting at our table.
Mean as show and food at the same time. Our chef was nice and excellent at cooking. Even gave a few freebies.
Been here on numerous occasions for Teppanyaki only and thought we would try their other Japanese cuisine. Plenty of variety on offer and the service was really excellent. The food came out really fast too! I really wanted to try the Katsu-don with egg, as many other Japanese restaurants here do it without the egg. However, the food lacked the wow factor for the price you pay. Overall still very good. Same goes for Teppanyaki, 5 stars for the experience!
The pork Ramen doesnt taste very nice, felt a bit disappointed; service from the staff is good.
We had lunch today for our 10th anniversary and it was not a good experience especially we came from overseas. They were shortage of staff and we had to wait 10 minutes to get seated .We actually came for the experience and the show of tappanyaki however the cheif was not doing anything special and we felt bored.(I have informed then many times it was our 10th anniversary)The food was not wow but ok co.parung yo other tappanyaki places we visited around the world. We have paid over 100 $ and honestly it is not worth it !!
I ate here today with some of my friends! The food was served quite fast considering 9 of us were there. The food was really nice and filling, great since we were ice skating after and the food overall wasn’t badly priced. Would come again to try their teppanyaki as we had Japanese cuisine and ramen today.
Was running a bit late and called in we will be late around 10 mins. The lady on the phone was telling us we will need to make the order as soon as we arrived as there is another couple sharing in the same table, which is fine. As soon as we arrived, not even seated she was already asking us to make the order. Felt a bit uncomfortable as I thought they would have at least give us a minute to LOOK at the menu. We placed our order as soon as we had a glance through the menu. The chef is new and she is nice, able to understand she is trying her best to cook the meal. Unfortunately the food have been overcooked and the meats were so tough that the meals were not really present to enjoy. Sadly the dinner doesnt worth the price tag that we paid for.
Last night I tried Daikoku for the first time.It was mine and my partners anniversary, we had my MIL come over to look after our kids and we were excited. When we arrived, we were seated at a table which already had a group of 4 seated. 1 man and 3 woman. The man was clearly a gang member as he sat at the table in his full gang attire including his vest and patch.Mid-way through dinner, another male turned up - only for 2 minutes at most, where a very significant handful of cash (all $50s from what I saw, so Im talking thousands of dollars potentiallywas exchanged for a package - a drug deal happening in the restaurant, less than a metre away from where I was sitting, trying to enjoy my anniversary dinner.Never have I ever felt so uncomfortable. We understand that they sometimes seat people at the same table, but given that this man was clearly a gang member, I felt the staff didnt take into consideration how the other patrons feel being seated at a table with them. Not 5 minutes after we arrived, a party of 2 were seated at a table by themselves. We would have much rather been seated with them, even if it meant a slight delay in getting served (honestly, we wouldnt have minded the wait and had we been given the option..... )Sadly, our anniversary dinner, and my first dining experience with Daikoku has had all the gloss and shine removed. We couldnt WAIT to get out of there.. we almost left once we were seated and before placing our order, but - we had kids at home and I didnt want to be out too late, plus - I was really keen to try the food at Daikoku - which was absolutely delicious (such a shame about the experience we had)This afternoon I thought I would pop in and have a talk with the staff - just to make them aware of what was going on in their restaurant and to the fact that we had our entire experience ruined by this, and while the manager(?did say the word sorry, I feel like he was being defensive and insincere. Given that we spent, what I would consider to be a reasonable amount of money on dinner for 2 - some sort of contribution towards another meal (so that we could perhaps have a do-over of our ruined anniversary dinnerwould have been a great gesture.GREAT FOOD THOUGH!! Yum! But if you are seated somewhere with people you dont feel comfortable with..... maybe just ask to be seated somewhere else!
Food was great but very dirty floors and the baby high chair was revolting. Didn’t even looked wiped . Had food crumbs and sauces everywhere . Glad I took disinfectant wipes with me. The corner we sat in had heaters at the back and it had built up dirt and grime that put me off the food. Wouldn’t go back. Also the cook wasn’t friendly and when we asked to put teriyaki sauce he said we didn’t order it , he can’t do it , we have to ask the manager and made it seem like it just wasn’t possible. When we advised him we did order it only then he went and checked and told us it’s extra cost. Also no fire tricks . Was our first time there and wouldn’t recommend to go
Very nice food, the service is very nice as well.... very friendly team...
Fantastic service from everyone and our chef was lovely. We went for my friends birthday and I asked if they could please put some candles in her dessert. Not only did they do that but a few staff came out singing happy birthday.A few of us ordered the April special for $65 and a few others selected from the menu. The food was great quality and well worth the trip, especially when you catch flying egg 🍳😊
Great service from all staff, had a good laugh and food was amazing!!
Vey delicious foods also good traditional Japanese foods. Good stuff and make sure chosen foods menu while preparing foods also two choice for Teppanyaki Lunch or Japanese Cuisine Lunch too in Botany Downs
Celebrated a friends birthday here and she was treated extra special! Extra prawns for lunch and a birthday candle on an icecream scoop. The chefs there were not shy to showcase their talents and skills, sometimes even sychronising their chopping and fire lighting! We did wonder though whether the waittress forgot our steamed rice! But, anyway we were so full even without it and we went away satisfied, happy and thrilled witb the experience. Word of warning, it gets hot in there and smoky, so if youre someone who gets too hot easily dress in shirt and shorts! As for the smoke, youd soon forget it once youve tasted the food. We ordered Blaze and Ocean from the menu. The dishes can be shared amongst the group. Also best to go min of 5 so you get the table by yourself, otherwise you might have to share with other ppl if its busy
Enjoyed the Teppanyaki lunch with office colleagues. It was great to have your own chef cooking right in the midst of your table with all the pomp and splendor of an authentic teppanyaki experience. Sure to visit again.
Very nice food, the order was given wrong bit they made it up for us. Fantastic service and quality of food.
Have not been here for years and was nice to experience teppanyaki again. Food was delicious and my steak was cooked very well done just as asked. All good of us were happy with our meals. We did ask for water but they never arrived.
Been here a few times. My sister and her husband come here at least once a month . Staff are always attentive. Very accommodating to my young childrens specific requests (they just felt like fried eggs and sushi that day... Sigh). Seafood is really fresh and tasty. Meat is high quality. Polite and quick service. Its a bit pricey but well worth it as a treat or if youve got visitors from overseas youre wanting to impress!
Wow, best ramen I have ever had in Auckland. A little far from where we stay to just eat their food, but I reckon its well worth the trip!! Highly recommend their ramen and even their black pepper beef on rice. Absolutely divine at a great price.
Food was good but service was a bit slow due to the huge amount of customers they had.
Ive not eaten seafood for 10 years after getting poisoning as a kid. Daikoku was the miracle place that reintroduced me to it and I must say yum yum sauce on prawns is the best thing Ive ever tasted.
Great experience, the chef was so entertaining. Got the vegetarian delight meal and it was more than I could eat hehe
The restaurant is very nice. The potions are good and its quite decently priced. Its a great place to take children just dont let them get to close the barbeque. Also dont expect them to eat the salad
Service was awesome. Food was cooked in front of you. The food was yummy. Would definitely eat there again.
