D'Atri Subs Etc - Sandwich shop in Cumberland, United States
What can I say? The steaksubs are the best 👍
Updated: If you want bland sweaty beef, this is the place. Quality has sunk big time. So bad I had to throw it out and get fast food. Hope they can improve.***Get the legendary steak/ cheesesteak with secret seasoned lettuce.
I love supporting this local, family-owned business. The food today was, as is normal and expected of all restaurants owned in the area by this same extended family, excellent. The customer service has changed drastically in a matter of months, and in ways that make me wonder if the other restaurants have also accepted this attitude as status quo. I understand being stressed out and understaffed is hard, since my job and many others are experiencing much the same. I work from home, so I am at my jobs disposal 24/7. When I ordered this evening for my work lunch/breaktime, I asked for price clarifications because I know that they might have increased along with other businesses serving similar meat options in the area (both owned by the extend DAtri family and not). I was given quite the change in attitude for the rest of the call. After I paid with my card, the person on the phone said, "Well get it to you when we can." I was trying to gauge did that mean 30 minutes vs the two hours it took the last time I called (its been a while since I ordered last, to be fair). Since I work from home and knew I had meetings ahead of me this evening around my meal break, I wanted to clarify what to expect. I was told, "We dont do that here," about the long 2 hour wait I had last time, and I was confused why that warranted a severe change in the tone I received. Before I could request a contactless delivery in case I was in a meeting, the call ended. Drivers were okay doing that arrangement in the past, but I didnt have time to call back in (to be fair, the shop is also busy). They delivered my food while I was in a meeting with my supervisor. So I didnt hear the door being knocked on upstairs, in my office. To be honest, with the start of dinner rush, I expected a longer wait time, and the meeting was only 15 minutes long. I took a chance, and it ended poorly. When the driver called me to verify that leaving the food behind was okay, I apologized for them having to knock several times and explained I was in a meeting, please leave it at the door, Ill be down soon. "What do youre mean in a meeting, I delivered to a house." Im sorry. You do not have the right to talk to your customers this way. What I do for my line of work and in my home is not your place to judge. I will hesitate as a native of Cumberland to recommend this shop over other restaurants both owned and not by the same family. I understand you are busy and stressed. That is not just your business dealing with it right now. You dont have the right to take your bad day out on other people. I hope there is a marked improvement in the level of customer service. Even if that means management has to find ways of reducing employee stressors.Side noteMy sub was made wrong.I always get sick when I eat their seasoned lettuce, so I asked three times for regular, UNseasoned lettuce as I have for over 15 years. In all that time, theyve rarely gotten it wrong. Like I said: excellent when it comes to food. Not to service. You are a local leader in small businesses. All employees reflect that representation in how they act. This sandwich was covered in the lettuce I cant eat and the bad attitude of not listening that came with it.So I couldnt even eat it, so I just gave it to my husband, who loved it.I didnt see the point of calling back in. I just would rather not bother them since asking for a replacement would be an added stressor no one involved needs today.Yes. Three stars. Why?I hope things in customer service changes for the better, as is expected of this family name.
Always awesome food thaks to the Best Cook Nakia Gilman!! Your then Man bro!!
Found the sandwiches to be very tasty and big in size. They were ready to be picked up when I arrived. Hadnt eaten here in two years,a tad bit sticker shock when paid for product.
I got the sweet Italian hoagie salad and chicken strips. The hoagie salad had the worst oil dressing on it Ive ever tasted lettuce was below standard The salad tasted horrible The chicken strips were tough and overdone Im very disappointed in this I have gotten good food years ago at datres but the last couple times Ive stopped there overpriced and the food was not the quality it used to be. I think Ive had my last experience with D Atris.
Food is great but the lady was grumpy!
I have always loved Datri’s subs, especially the steak and cheese. But 5/24 would disappoint me. We ordered two large steak and cheese subs. When they were delivered, they proved too large to be eaten by oneself. We split one and I took the other home. On Thursday, May 26, I decided to eat 1/2 of the other sub. My first bite included a long black hair. It could not be mine as my hair is gray and the sub was still in the paper the shop put it in for delivery. I called the shop and spoke with an employee who said yes there were employees with long hair. He asked if I want to talk with the manager. I replied yes. This lady came on and at first I thought she was mute! Eventually she told me the grill cooks were bald. Well, that’s okay but you must have other employees who help make the orders. She did offer to replace the sub if I brought it back. I told her no thanks we live a 10 mile distance from Cumberland. I also told her I had taken care of the hair after i got it out of my mouth! A little disappointed guys! Thanks for replying. We have a mystery on our hands. Unless one of the bald cooks are hairy like Bigfoot. That hair was wrapped in the sub. I had not opened the sub until today. It had to have been wrapped in it at the store! I maintain it was the shop’s mistake!
The food has either changed, or the staff has who does the cooking. Delivery drivers are always kind and generally have a smile on their faces. The prices are a bit high but once again that seems to be everywhere.
Food came in time. The only thing is I asked for regular mayo and got miracle whip instead and the gravy tasted caned or powered. Still good though and will come back. Steak was great and was worth the price.
Very disappointed. Use to be my #1 sub shop for the past 40 years. Never again.
Good subs, the staff was friendly. My items were ready exactly when they said they would be.
The passed three times my family and I have gotten food from here it has been incorrectly made. MAJORLY. One time we got raw jalapenos on a sub that wasnt even supposed to have jalapenos. That was acceptable, first honest mistake. Or so I thought. Just today we tried again and, not only was the food severely wrong, but the service was awful. We got three cheese steaks, all 12inch and pretty much made the same. One of them came as a 6inch with just steak and cheese (incorrect on multiple frontsand another came with the correct length, but only cheese and mushrooms. Do you no longer get meat when you add mushrooms to a sub? Im not sure what happened to the owners (or previous owners), but theyre awful now. We called to try and correct these issues and they flat out stated that they wouldnt even attempt to fix it. The owners are so rude that they made my mother cry, and were left with the worst interpretations of a cheese steak sub ever.I highly suggest going through these reviews and reading the large amount of 1-star reviews and the asinine comments that the owner makes on them.TL;DR: Great restaurant. Five years ago. Go somewhere else unless you like your order being wrong and hearing a mouthful from an inconsiderate employee/owner.Edit: Another asinine comment made on this review. I heard the phone call; I highly doubt there were two other customers who "walked away satisfied" because we were told immediately that our orders would not be fixed. For a "business", the conduct offline and online is childish. We ended up getting food elsewhere after way overpaying for foot long cheese and mushroom sandwiches. I wouldnt want a cheese and mushroom sandwich for $20 again, so thats perfectly acceptable to be on a "no order list". Respect should go BOTH ways; unfortunately respect is not employed by this business.
How to give zero stars? You get the benefit of being the first place Ive ever tasted this horribly. Same as the other reviewers on here,I have been eating from here for almost 30 years. This last time I ordered a cheese steak with mushrooms and recieved a sub bun with mushrooms.... Why would I ever pay 20 dollars for a sub bun with mushrooms? I attempted to return the sub and get some sort of correction to the order, but all she did the first call was Ill get a manager, then hung up. Second call she decided that it was professional to argue with me. Never will my money be doesnt here again. You run a horrible business.Update: See the childish responses the owner gives in retaliation for a bad review. Evidence of poor management.
Best cheese steaks we’ve ever had! That lettuce is extraordinary!!! Passing through town and so glad we got the recommendation to stop here.
Great food, especially their cheese steak sub, staff is friendly. Deserts are delicious. Cherry cheesecake and peanut butter iced brownies. Will come back for more!
I have been a customer here for 42 years now this is my last trip there .. I ordered a cheese steak and 10 wings the price on the website was 11.99 for my sub and 10.49 for 10 wings . I get to the store to pickup my order the owner said it was 29.54 . I said what is the difference in price he said wings are now 15.99 for 10 even though they are clearly on the website for 10.49 he gave me a new menu with that price and still charged me 15.99 so this is illegal and terrible customer service. When I was a boy we would get 5.00 subs packed with meat !! Wow what a joke now
Used to be the best sub shop in town! But now its not worth waiting an hour for the delivery of anything on the menu. Over priced!
Have been pleased with this establishment for many years but today I found myself disappointed. The lettuce on the steak sub had a strong refrigerator taste and in my opinion was not fresh. Not one to be picky but just how hard is it for establishments to represent themselves with quality tasting toppings.Update: The owners response earned them the one star. Down from three. It does not matter if the seasond lettuce is made for each order... bad lettuce is bad lettuce. 👎Update 2: I now see the owner decided to remove their unprofessional comment. It would have been simple to admit fault and advise the issue would be considered but they found it more important to criticize the customer.I was doing Datris a favor by trying to keep the quality to what I expect and have received in the past. If Diatris can not take corrective criticism the business is being driven in the wrong direction.
The past several times Ive bought subs and hoagies at this location, the buns were stale and crumbling, the tomatoes were unripe green/white cores and the seasoned lettuce was extremely skimpy and tasteless. These are nowhere near the quality, taste or freshness of the subs my family has purchased since the 1970s. I used to recommend this location to out-of-towners. But no more.
If you are going to have DAtri takeout. Get it here! Perfect subs no soggy messy ones like other locations. Hands down the best subs in town.
I am not a complainer, but I feel the need to share this for anyone in search of a take-out restaurant in Cumberland:On September 12, 2021 I purchased D’Atri subs for our family after church, as we do many Sunday afternoons. When I returned home, I discovered that my sub was made incorrectly. It was really no big deal, accidents happen. I called D’Atri’s and let them know that my sub was not as ordered. The gentleman was very kind, took my name, and told me on my next visit I would have a free sub.Today, October 17, I ordered the same thing from D’Atri’s. I planned to use my credit for the sub. When arriving at the store I was told that they “didn’t have” my name for my last incorrect order. The lady working the register was extremely rude, telling me I was lying about my previous order being incorrect. My concern when writing this review is not that my previous order was not made right, it was the way I was treated by a staff member. If you’re looking for a restaurant that treats their customers poorly and tells them they are liars, D’Atri Subs is the place to go! If not, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Sure, their steak subs are excellent, but I cannot support a restaurant that has no respect for their customers.
Just stopped in and picked up wings and subs. The food was terrible, the wings were undercooked and one of the subs ( Philly cheese we’re drowning in salt, first bit I took I couldn’t even describe on how distasteful and soggy their food was. Never Again! The manger which I spoke to was rude and unwillingly to refund the food.
I’m in LaVale and to that D’Atri; new here in town last January. I’ve written of how excellent D’Atri’s meatball subs are. They are as good as a meatball sub can be in my opinion. I’d change nothing about them. Had them three times, excellent every time. Actually, seemed better…but today I was brave and had the steak and cheese sub. Every bit as good as the meatball. Again…don’t know how they could be better. Really. The pic is like the last third. I’m stuffed so I had to take a break. Excellent.
I wasnt familiar with the menu, & the lady who took my order was very helpful, friendly & didnt rush me to decide. The food was good... all fresh, hot & just out of the oven. This is a neighborhood favoritefood spot. Its going to be a sad day when they move.
Two out of the three fries I ordered with our subs tonight for delivery werent delivered. When I called, an owner (supposedlytold me all 3 fries were delivered, then she said there was nothing she could do for me and hung up on me. Last time I ever order from DAtri.
Great food, nice staff. Prices are a bit on steep side though, $40 for my family of three to eat there.. We ordered 2 subs, and a med.pizza.. Total was way high for the type of food. But fold quality is great tasting...
Awesome food every time! You will NOT find a better cheese steak sub no matter how far you look!
Best cheese steak subs, using seasoned lettuce & Capporelli buns!! Just noticed they have homemade soups, chili, french fries w/ gravy! I will be trying all soon!
I miss the old Datris! They are nowserving sub standard subs! Their idea of a salad is seasoned lettuce and 2 pieces of tomato. The grilled ham and cheese was one piece of ham lunch meat chopped up in little bits. Save your money or go to LaVale! I took pics and wish I could post them on here!!!
I am downgrading to 2 stars because lately the quality seems to be spotty. Sometimes its really good other times subs are not at all. Also things dont appear to be so clean. In these covid times cleanliness is job one and that goes doubly for personnel too. Maybe things will improve when they move to rolling mills until then I think Ill go elsewhere for subs.
This is specifically about the Valley St neighborhood. If you are from out of town and do not want to support the food options on Baltimore St, do not be afraid to park your car infront of this place. You can get it to-go, then drive towards Lovers Leap and park at the closed-down gas station on the left. You are only about a half mile away from where you got your sandwiches and you are now parked where you can have access to the hiking trail. I have had cheese subs from this place and I was very pleased with my order every time. The staff is always pleasant. If they seem young and dysfunctional, be understanding. It is probably their first job and there are no other options. They want to work. These are good people. Support their scene.
Absolutely disgusting stayed up all night with my wife feeling ill and sick. Ordered a Philly cheesesteak and meat was cold and had ground beef in it. Yeah best cheesesteak ever more like worst Philly cheesesteak ever !! Wings watered down and down right over cooked and also funny smell. If you care about your health don’t eat here !!
Late to review, but we bought a party platter of subs for some event volunteers last summer (Aug 2019), and this place is THE WORST food we have ever experienced anywhere. I dont understand these glowing reviews. This was straight up trash. AVOID.
We love a Datris steak and cheese sub. We couldnt wait to eat. It was the worst sub I have ever ate. They steak didnt have a taste, there was no seasoned lettuce. There wasnt any mayo on it. The onion rings came in a white bag and the grease was coming through the bag. WILL NOT ORDER AGAIN.
This place is absolutely amazing! First time I had it was close to 15years ago... so this weekend I had part of my rally club drive 4hrs with me to get steak and cheese hoagies, they still taste the same and were amazing! My crew loves them and want to make more trips down. They actually wanted to do it again the day after!
Its been awhile since I had my favorite at Columbia Street datri large cheese steak sub with sweet peppers just as yummy as its ever been as always the services great the shop is clean well-managed
I ordered 2 Subs with the toppings on the side. They took 1hr and 20mins to bring the food only after calling to find out if they had left yet to deliver it, they said it was just then being bagged up. when it finally got here only 1 of the subs side was actually separated the other sub had maybe 3 pieces of lettuce on it. The ranch fries we ordered was so saturated in grease and cold. The girl who answered the phone was very rude. This datris on Columbia ave is the worst. That is def the last time I will ever order from there.
Order from D’Atri in LaVale. This place is dirty and the workers are not friendly. When we picked up our subs the marinara sauce inside the bag was not sealed. The lid was not even the right size and taped on. The bottom of the bag was a soup of sauce. An overall terrible experience for a place that looks like it’s falling apart. I don’t know how they pass health inspections.
Always a great place to grab lunch or dinner. Soups are delicious and you cant beat the cheese steak subs! Usually crowded but dont let that scare you off.
One of my favorite places to eat. Always try the Cheese Steak subs with seasoned lettuce. Local Favorite. Be prepared to pay though. Because its not cheap. Highly recommended
In town on business travel, called and ordered delivery to my hotel. Ordred a BLT Wedgie and they asked me if I wanted Lettuce and tomato? Really? Its a B-L-T, not a B. So I said, Yes, Bacon, Lettuce Tomato with mayonnaise. Also ordered a side of Eggplant fries with ranch. Order was delivered in a timely fashion with pleasant and friendly service. Upon opening the wedgie the first thing I see is a ton of yellow cheese oozing out everywhere. Who puts yellow cheese on a BLT?? Cheese is not part of a BLT. I did not ask for cheese. I went back and looked at the menu and it does not say they put cheese on it anywhere. The cheese was all melted and there was so much of it that it could not be removed. The issue here is that I cannot eat dairy products. So I open the eggplant fries...half the package is mixed with regular potato fries and they did not put the ranch dressing in the bag. $22.00 spent and no dinner. Not happy!
Visited this mom and pop in Western Maryland that has been open for decades. Still the same great food I remembered as a child. My favorite part of their subs is the marinated sweet green peppers. They piled them on for me. There was more meat on the sub than any other sub shop. They also have pasta meals, that my granddaughters said was the best they ever had. The friendly service is something I remember from my youth. It is carryout only. We went to a neighborhood park for a picnic. Well worth the drive from Florida.
Food is delicious however it can be a bit pricey sometimes just depending on what all is ordered. Also if I wasnt a local who is familiar with the Cumberland area the location would be a little difficult to find for people NOT from around here or familiar with this area. The wait time is reasonable for pick up or delivery, decent food selection & variety, & fast friendly service. Their famous Cheese steak subs are absolutely delicious as well as a local favorite!! This location however does not have a dining in area so its only carry out or delivery. I definitely recommend DAtris Subs for some fabulous foods!
Ive been eating these subs for years, every time I visit my grandmother in Cumberland. The cheese-steak is very good, and a classic! They use a little too much mayonnaise (my opinionbut the seasoned lettuce is really what makes the sandwich special. I recommend getting it with peppers.
Ordered cheese steak with mayo but they used miracle whip instead. French fries were barely warm and seemed like they had been sitting around for a long time. They may have "the best steak subs in town" but that isnt saying much.
DATRIS subs are still the best tasting subs in town... Unfortunately, their prices grow higher but the subs grow smaller & although I havent laid it next to a ruler, Im told the length is still the same, Soo... Im guessing because theres less meat and less toppings, they just seem smaller!! Theres also the issue with consistency, meaning, different staff on different shifts also decides upon the size and quality of your sub!! Its the same for their salads and all too; higher prices, smaller sizes, lowering quality!! Its sad because there would not be as much a problem with the prices, BUT, with never knowing if the sub is really going to be worth the price, ESPECIALLY after adding on taxes, delivery fee and driver tip, its not always worth the risk of paying nearly $15.50 per sub (after taxes, delivery fee & drivers tip)!!! ... Subway subs will NEVER compare to a Datris sub, but, at least when Im paying $8, I know its 12-inches & if I ask for extra lettuce, I get it, especially when lettuce, Mayo & cheese is all Im getting on my sub!
Best place in the area. Its the one place we can go to get something for all the picky eaters. One gets wings, one a sub, one gets chicken tenders and salad and I get pasta and we all get the soup. Best wings around, We get a ton every Christmas eve (husbands birthday).
I had to have them replace my food because it was packed with fried onions, which we asked for only meat and cheese on it. But it was perfect the second time. My husband ordered meatballs, and they are almost hard as golf balls. Our cat thought they were toys and she batted them all over the apartment. At least she had fun.
The subs were awful. I had a tuna hoagie that was packed with lettuce and sweet peppers. My husband had a tuna sub that was packed with lettuce and nothing else. Neither one of our subs were cut, and the French fries were extra salty. The only thing that we liked was the bottled teak tea. The special seasoning that they use is very strong and smelly. Do your self a favor and eat somewhere else.
