Museum arranged around the eponymous ship that used to speed tea from Asia to Victorian Britain.
Cutty Sark in Madaoua
Description
Privilege
It’s a wonderful lifetime experience for everyone to go to this impressive ship (tea clipper). Spend some time and have fun with family inside. Moreover, I would like to try the afternoon tea with friends and family in the hull next time.
MoreClimbed the rigging with plus experience would not be so worth it going just to the first deck as views were much better out on the side lucky with the weather and sunsetting was definatly worth the trip.
MoreAwesome rig climb. Fab, entertaining, polite, helpful staff, both on climb and on ship.Really enjoyed it.Lovely cafe, good prices, nice selection of food.Thank you
MoreEasy to get to and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Depending on how much your young child likes ships, they may start to get distracted once theyve been through the floors of the ship. Stairs to access different areas are also quite steep and angled. Still a good day out and a London attraction worth visiting. If you prebook online its also quicker to pass through the entry gates once they scan your ticket barcodes. Toilets are also clean and theres a food area on the -1 floor.
MoreThe area around the ship is very nice for walks and relaxing time. It is known that at first the ship was designed to be one of the fastest and to transport tea from China. But there is also an interesting history related to its name that seems to originate from Robert Burn’s poem and a story about a witch chasing a farmer. That very same story in the poem also tells us that witches cannot cross 💦 water so it sounds weird and a bit awkward for a ship to carry that name. Nowadays one can see the ship stuck there and everywhere around fullness of life and people enjoying the nice walking and cycling area. From there one can easily expand the pleasant activity to a walk around the river or through Greenwich park where there is abundance of green space.
MoreMust see place. You cant realize the size of that vessel from outside. Interesting facts and the feeling about sailors life.
MoreNice ooen area to relax. Tunnel conecting Canary Wharf and Greenwich. Decent shop and food around.
MoreThe ship itself is very interesting and beautiful. There are information videos all around the place that truly tell a lot about the ships voyages. The place is designed to show how the ship used to function, even with the smallest details such as speakers to show the noise the chickens made. Very recommended for anyone, especially tourists.
MoreBuilt in 1869, the Cutty Sark is a beautiful and historic sailing ship, and the fastest in the world in its time. It was built as a tea clipper for the tea trade with China. The ship has been fully restored to its original condition. One can explore the ship in its entirety, including the crews quarters and living conditions, and the cargo deck. The ships history is presented at informative and interesting points throughout the vessel. Well worth a visit.
MoreA fantastic boat with lots of history and things to see price is a bit steep although there is a day pass views from the top Deck of Canary Wharf are good you can even explore all the cabins
MoreThe museum far exceeded our expectations. There were loads of interesting facts highlighting its job as a transporter for tea from China and Wool from Australia We were able to participate in a knot tying demo and the exhibits were very creative in their presentation.
MoreReally nicely remodelled since the fire. Interesting and informative.Greenwich itself has so many attractions so with this visit, a whole day of entertainment. Add a uber up the Thames.
MoreVisiting the Cutty Sark was a highlight of our trip to England. I enjoyed learning about the restoration and seeing the proof of it. Some museums show the perfect restoration, but the Cutty Sark left places that had been damaged and that lent to the charm of the ship. Genius. Seeing the dry-dock was also impressive, since most people never see a ship in dry dock. To see the scale of the ship from beneath was incredible. My party also climbed the rigging and it was so fun to see it from a different perspective. (My shoe fell off and I had to climb back down to get it! Wear well-fitted shoes.)Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? YES!
MoreInteresting for children and adults learning about the old tea clipper. It looks lovely with London backdrop, but was quite expensive, nearly £50 for two adults and two children (this included the royal observatory where you can view meridian line). It took less than 30 mins to walk around, but might be a longer experience without children. I enjoyed it though, but wouldnt return.
MoreAn amazing venue, not only the historic site which you can visit on top, but also the area downstairs, which was used for a party when I was firstly introduced to this place! Amazing to see, from top and below, would love to come back!
MoreWe were very impressed with the work theyve done to preserve the ship and to create the visitors centre. It was very informative. Very quiet and it’s not so crowded.
MoreAmazingly well preserved old vessel steeped in history and iconic in its day and still holds such significance as the fastest such vessel for many years....!!
MoreHad love lovely time here. Been several times with the green family year membership. Always have a lovely time here lots to do great for kids!
MoreWell worth a visit. Spent a good 1 1/2 hours on the ship. Very much enjoyed it and the cafe is great too
MoreCool museum, plenty of information and to see. Isnt too bad price, as it is london, dono if Id go again for a while. But glad I went.
MoreWhat a fantastic place to visit,so much history on display and the ship its self is magnificent, definitely recommend going here.
MoreWe had a very nice hour or two on the ship and in the cafe. The Cutty Sark is a very interesting place to visit. The coffee in the cafe is really good
MoreThere is a delicious food market organized by Geeenwich market that is a must! Particularly Doughlicious and its mini delicious doughnuts. Plus you are in a beautiful square where you can sit, eat, relax, admire the amazing views of the river thames and the awesome cutty sark boat/museum. Anyway Greenwich per se is an amazing place, it is like being in an antique little village frozen in time, a place there you never get tired of for sure.
MoreIncredible! I learned more about tea and the tea trade than anything else, but it was an excellent mix of info + interaction that wasnt overwhelming. Good for a 45-minute visit before going on to the maritime museum/observatory.
MoreI was so impressed with the work theyve done both to preserve the ship and to create the visitors centre. Very welcoming and informative. It was quiet when we were there. We never felt rushed or crowded at any point.
MoreArrived by boat to see the ship. Built in Dumbarton, Scotland and the fastest ship ever made at the time of launching. A great experience and important historical treasure. Be sure to check-out the area nearby. Beside the ship is a wonderful market selling fresh foods from a variety of cultures and countries.
MoreHad such a great time here with 4 generations of my family. The staff were really helpful with the lift for my grandpa who can’t manage stairs so well and the very excited kids too.The exhibition on the ship is really fun and educational and there is a sufficient cafe, shop and facilities.Three of us did the rig climb which was the highlight of the visit for me. Very fun to get kitted up and climb up above everyone. The views are fantastic and the team who get you kitted up and help you on the climb were so amazing. They take photos every stage of the way and you get to zip wire back down. Felt like a real adventure and achievement. All in all had a really great visit.
MoreSuch an interesting trip into the past....Going to the Cutty Sark was a special moment as my mother was invited to its opening ceremony more than half a century ago. I had high expectations.....Which were exceeded. The ship remains beautifully restored and cared for, as if it went into dry dock least week. The information and displays are relevant and interesting and the activities available a great addition.Id recommend anyone visiting - even with teenagers as its not a long tour and they may just about manage to put down their phones long enough to enjoy it 🤣♥️
MoreThe last tea clipper of the British trade fleet is attractively presented on dry dock near the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and can be visited with a combo ticket for the Observatory. Keep in mind the last admission is at 16:30 and the museum closes at 17:00 sharp. The ship is well preserved and a lot of the history of the trade routes can be seen along the tour. Kids will be quite entertained too with interactive displays at several points.
MoreBeautiful place for day trip. Lot to do in this area such as boat ride, free museums, Garden, pub, restaurants, O2 etc. Specially in summer days amezing atmosphere.
MoreIconic British clipper from 1869, trading tea with many expeditions from London to Shanghai and Woosung, super fast for its date, took part in various competitions. Caught fire in 2007 and also in 2014. It is a nice symbol of Greenwich, with a museum underneath, can be visited inside.
MoreSuch a wonderful couple of hours.beautiful ship.my granddaughter is a sea cadet so we were especially interested to visit.
MoreForever the fastest! The Cutty Sark is a tea clipper that was built in 1869 at Dumbarton, Scotland. The ship has earned its eternal fame during the tea clipper races, already during the maiden voyage in 1869 the Cutty Sark set the unparalleled record of 69 days. After only four years, the tea clippers were over because steamships were faster. The Cutty Sark remained in service until 1954, including as a training ship for maritime cadets, after which it ended up in a dry dock and became a museum ship. Well worth a visit!
MoreThe Cutty Sark was a pleasant afternoon out. There are numerous levels to view and then a cafe underneath the boat itself for refreshments after.
MoreReally enjoyed the Cutty Sark and seeing how the ship operated in the different stages of her past. To see how the tea was packed and details of the restoration and some of the less well know aspects of the ships past were the bits I enjoyed the most.
MoreThe curry Sark is a great place to visit if your looking to find out about the uk’s and chinas tea trade or just about the world famous boat. It’s not to expensive to enter and once you enter the boat you instantly realise how impressive it is for a boat being built in the 18 hundreds. There’s loads to see around the boat and most of it’s still original despite the fire that happned before. You can go inside most of the cabins and compartments that the crew lived in during their time aboard the boat. If your feeling brave you can even climb the Mast. Overall it’s a very cool tourist attraction and I would recommend visiting it. There’s also a cafe.
MoreGreat museum with plenty to see. Being able to walk around gives a really good idea of the scale of the ship which is something you simply cannot get from a book or screen. If you are visiting London its a must see and located right in the centre if Grenwich with the market and the navel college right next to it.
MoreA beautiful experience on a sunny Sunday. This is a place you can come with the entire family and just take in the sun. There is a lot of stores around here to grab lunch and have a taste of varying delicacies.
MoreIts a great experience! The visitor is able.to visit all the decks of the ship and have a quick meal at the lowest level, beneath the ships keel.
MoreI didnt get to see much of it because we came by close to the closing time. We also didnt get a tour of the ship.I enjoyed my experience but cant say I got the value for my money. I would advice anyone looking to visit to come in earlier to have a proper look around and a value for money.
MoreThe Cutty Sark experience is great. What a fantastic ship and the tour and the experience lecture from one of the clippers captains is very good also. The surrounding area, Greenwich is a great experience too, it all goes together to make for a fantastic experience that can last as long as you want it to.
MoreGreat experience and fun for the kids. My grandson loved it and the exhibits had a great information, for anyone to understand the history behind it.
MoreFantastic experience. Also nearby Greenwich has a lot to offer including the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich Market, the Emirates Airlines Cable Car experience & amazing views of the London Skyline. You can also take the pedestrian tunnel to the other side of Thames which is an amazing experience in itself. The City Sark experience in my opinion comes with all this. Highly recommended.
MoreInteresting addition to the sights in the area. The staff is friendly, cafe and toilet facilities are available and the walk arounds the decks will not take you more than 40min. A great way to see the 19th century conditions sailors lived in while in the see for months.
MoreGreat ship museum in the city, right next to the Thames and in the heart of Greenwich. Tickets are a bit expensive and you can get discount of 10% if you have membership of English heritage. There are two free museums nearby,so we didn’t visit the inside of the museum. Parking are free at the blackheath common at the weekend.
MoreA really well thought out experience. The audio tour that you can access on your phone is excellent (and has a video with BSL as well), and I was pleased to see and one-way system still in place. So interesting to see and imagine the history of this ship, and the exhibition items are few but significant, giving a flavour of the people involved in the ships life. I love the Christmas lights!
MoreGreat bit of history, beautiful ship to explore. We had the bonus of a sea shanty group singing experience on the day we visited, which was wonderful. Perfect for any age . A must see if you are in Greenwich .
MoreThis is one of my favorite things I visited while in London. This was one of the most interactive and engaging museums and it was so cool to be on this old tea trading ship. I give this a 10/10!! Definitely do the audio guide through the app. It takes a little over an hour but added so much to the experience. I also appreciated that their guide was also in sign language.
MoreGreat ship. Really enjoyed the performer of the day and the figure heads. Cafe n toilets available. Friendly staff. Doesnt take too long walk round approx 30 -45 minutes at a leisurely pace. Come out of station, turn left and its there. Little queue and can pay on the door. I pre-paid and didnt have to wait, just scanned in.
MoreFantastic to visit and experience the ship as it once was. Its a truly immersive experience and the smell of wood as you walk through is amazing. It has been amazingly preserved and is definitely worth a visit.
