The Brunswick Centre London, near, Russell Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 1AW, Brunswick
Small arthouse cinema, focused on independent films, with underground screens and bar.
Nice cafe and building but the screens are tiny with cramped seats. No leg room and no cup holders or arm table - you have to hold your drink the entire time
Very cool place.A bit tricky signage getting into the screening room.
Curzon Bloomsbury? Why would you go here? Its got a bloody DocHouse: a dedicated screen for documentaries. Where else do you find that? Nowhere. Only issue was the elderly woman who fell asleep and snored upon documentary starting. Typical reprobates.
Chaotic, the staff don’t tell you which screen the movie is on or know the price of drinks. Not as bad as the Curzon in Camden, but pretty shambolic
Cinemas great but do not call box office. Premuim rate at 41p a minute. Holding on for more than 10 mins. Phone never answered and paid £6 for the call.
Why does someone go to see a film, spend the whole time on their phone (putting it under your coat doesnt make it less annoyingand eating noisy, smelly food. Is their sole aim to destroy the enjoyment of other film goers.
Came in yesterday evening to see Elvis. Loved the cinema. Great service. Staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Will definitely be back soon :-)
I really like this cinema. It has a nice feeling to it. There is a cafe upstairs and the cinema was cosy and comfortable.
Comfortable seats which recline slightly. Good selection of food and drink options to take in and friendly staff. Not the cheapest.
Good art house cinema, with multiple bars & first run movies
Once again the Curzon Bloomsbury destroys any credibility with its regular core residential clientele. On a Monday evening at 6.30 pm we were all asked to leave the tables on the terrace to accommodate a very rowdy private party going on inside. An absolute shameful thing to do!Aren’t you supposed to be about airing and creating an environment of creativity and not pandering to making a fast buck? Shameful!!!!
£40 for two tickets to sit in a small but very average seating. Theyre too posh to serve cinema classics. Wouldnt really recommend.Youre better off going to genesis in Bethnal Green if you like the balance between a posh cinema with quality cinema food and seating.
Luxury cinema on 3 floors, cocktails are good, there is only food from the fridge (unlike other branches that also serve from the kitchen). You are allowed to bring food and drinks to the movie room but mind that a drink holder is not always available. Toilets were okay but could have been more clean considering there werent many customers around.
i didnt watch any movies there i just sat down on the floor in the lobby and watched netflix on my phone
Friendly prompt service at the bar. Difficult to find the toilets as Im sleeping ghtly visually impared
As with all the cinemas in the Curzon group this an elegant and stylish place for serious film fans to enjoy the widest range of releases. Tastefully decorated throughout with a smart bar on the ground floor. Within the Brunswick Centre. Recommended.
Multiple screens showing a superb mix of documentaries, art house and blockbuster movies. There is also a decent cafe bar with outdoor seating for pre or post film drinks. The only negatives for me on this visit was while the seats were comfortable enough, they seem quite narrow and confined with the result that you are almost sat shoulder to shoulder with other customers. The final moan is the £17.50 admission (especially given the seatswhich while we talking central London is still way to high and will price out many potential customers.
I was very disappointed. I thought it was a quality cinema. I may have made a mistake but the film I saw was so bad I walked out. And that at £17.50 a ticket!! Outrageous.
Very expensive, seats were 17.50 per person. No discounts after 5pmGo figure. Foreign films for the most part which is great. Seats used to be comfy, no more. The foam has pretty much worn out. The screening room I was in was tiny - maybe 25 seats. Small screen to match.Getting a little dowdy.
Lovely staff and a very comfortable viewing experience at the Renoir Screen - Ill be back! Fellow students, take advantage of Curzons (freeunder 25 membership too!
Lovely boutique cinema in the heart of London. Comfortable spacious seating and a good range of films showing, at a very reasonable price!
Perhaps one of the most beautiful film venues I have been to. The experience of reaching your screen may perhaps be as exciting as the movie you will watch. It’s cinemas like this that will make me want to go watch movies (at a substantial premiumoutside rather than at home.
Very pleasant venue. Regularly shows films that might not be easy to see elsewhere. 5 screens I believe. Bit shabby, but gives it a well used and loved venue ambience. Very tasty snacks available, healthy food and quality cakes. Peanut Butter shortbread highly recommended! Staff extremely helpful and friendly. I made a mistake with my booking, but they sorted it out immediately in a cheerful "no trouble at all" way. I shall definitely be returning.
Went to a showing at the Lumiere screen here and the seats are deathly uncomfortable, . Also the air-conditioning is either bust or poorly setup, by the halfway point of a 3 hour film the temperature felt like it was in the mid 20s, and seeing as its the middle of winter everyone was dressed heavily. Also left something to be said about maintaining air circulation during an airborne viral pandemic, especially considering we were two of only a few who bothered to keep our masks on. I love Curzon, but that was far from my favourite experience at one of their theatres.
Very helpful staff. Pristine toilets. Small but comfortable screen. Other screens available. Coffee and cake.
£17.50 a ticket. This cinema is housed in a tightly contained soviet-chic bunker where the screen arent called the usual expected names eg. "Screen 2", they have them named things like The Boogie Lounge. Also, please dont expect to find where you are going in the bunker as theyre no signs for anything as it would be disrupt the minimalist decor. This place wants you scouring and investigating the premises of this dimly lit concrete shell until you work out the location of the toilet . This is all fine and dandy but at £17.50 its extracting the urine. The sound wasnt even in sync with the film either. £17.50!
Excellent location close to Russel Square Underground station and decent seats. However, the screens (at least the Minema screenare absolutely tiny and prices higher than normal.
Beautiful picture, sound, spaces, cafe and bar! Film selections are great too! The only down side is the ticket prices.
Good selection of films with good picture and audio quality but the rooms and the seats need (somecleaning to make it feel worth the ticket price.
I love this cinema! As a local of the area I’ve been a member for a couple years of this lovely theater. Yes, it’s expensive but this is central London after all. The selection of movies is great - a mix of independent, foreign, blockbuster, and documentary films. It’s always a treat to go here and the staff are mostly nice, though same cannot always be said for fellow moviegoers. Theaters are small so best to book well in advance.
Great cinema for documentary films and the staff are amazing and friendly. Close to Russell Square station and a few decent restaurants and coffee houses close. Love it there.
Superb film, lovely ambience. Screwed up coffee but apologised and replaced it with a beauty. Drive my car was totally engrossing. Minema is fabulous screening room. No one spoke during film, but outside in cafe all very chatty!
A 5* review for the woman in the rainbow jumper making a cocktail last night for the man in the jeans, leather shoes and blazer. He queried the gin she was using. Then the vermouth. Then the recipe. And finished by saying Well, youll be getting some feedback tonight. She batted away all his comments with grace and professionalism. Never trust a man in jeans, leather shoes and a blazer. 5* to her.
Absolutely love the Curzon Bloomsbury! Seats so very comfortable and spaceous and even when full, the biggeest screen is small enough for intimate experience yet big enough not to feel the presence of other people.
Some great seats, sound quality seemed good to me despite sitting in the balcony. It doesnt take a large group of you to book the whole balcony and bring a picnic without disturbing fellow cinema goers!
Worst cinema experience ever.Went to see the new James Bond film here at 8pm on a Sunday. It took the bartender 20 minutes to make 2 cocktails, meaning we missed the start of the film. The cinema screens are awfully signposted and there are barely any staff to help.Aside from that, the screens were nice and we had a great view.
Great film, very nice though small auditorium. Cinema positioned amongst a good variety of restaurants. Enjoyed the Greek restaurant, very nice atmosphere, service charming.
Great Christmas cinema (particularly if you like a bit of brutalist architecture). I was in a nice, smaller screen to watch Riders of Justice (brilliant film by the way). Clean, coffee, wine, beer - what more could you want. Alcohol was pricey (£10 for a large glass of red), but apart from that, I had a really good time.
Some of the screens are not clearly signposted and there arent enough staff. Otherwise a nice, fairly luxurious cinema with good screens and sound systems. Tickets were only a fiver on Tuesday afternoon.
Changed a lot from when it had uncomfortable seats and a resident cat that roamed around during screenings. Small, multiplex cinema with comfortable seats and (surprisingly!cheaper than other cinemas. I recommend 👍
Always love this cinema. I have only been in the Renoir screen which is great.Tonight I sat up in the balcony for the first time. It was amazing individual seats and one row. I felt like I was at my own private screening. Highly recommend.
Love this cinema. Plenty of space outside to eat or grab a coffee ( the flat whites are top!). The cinema spaces are small and cosy and the seats are like large armchairs that slightly recline. Great place to see a film if you’re not a fan of large multiplexes. Set in a small shopping area with a good choice of restaurants too so great place to meet up with friends.
So lets get the positives out of the way, because to be fair there are more positives than negatives. The cinema looks great, very upmarket, which probably explains the extortionate ticket prices (if you book online, its around £18 if you include the booking fee, to sum up how expensive that is, for the same price of a single film here, you can get Odeon Limitless of Cineworlds Unlimited for a month). There is a nice, relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of power sockets to charge your phones.I love that despite being underground, you still get a strong phone signal, which doesnt happen at other cinemas based under street level (such as the screens at Odeon on Tottenham Court Road). The staff are also very friendly and the screens are usually quiet. All of that being said, Ive only given it 3 stars because the seats are exceptionally uncomfortable. I said in two different screens and neither had any leg room (and Im not overly tall), and the seats are exceptionally hard, and at times it felt like sitting on a rock. Ultimately, regardless of anything else, for the large money youre paying, youd expect to be reasonably comfortable whilst watching a film.
excellent movie choices. seats are sort of comfortable but with little forward leg space, I found my knees starting to ache. For myself, I found it pretty confusing, where to buy tickets, waiting for the theatre to be ready and then finding the right room.Good sound quality good screen quality in a very intimate room.
This cinema branch of Curzon is in fact my favourite in the whole of London. The atmosphere of the cafeteria seems really pleasant and very descent.Curzon Bloomsbury showcased a special gala screening for the Amazon TV show, "The Man in the High Castle" (Season Twoin which I did attend and took multitudes of photos whilst I was there.
The Bertha DocHouse screen shows the best in global documentary film making. You can also bring your beers/wine into the cinema. There are also regular director Q&A sessions after screenings. My favourite cinema in London!
Fantastic art house cinema with great coffee, comfortable seating. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. The cinema screen felt immersive and the sound was at the perfect level. Everything about this place felt special and better then your average cinema. I would definitely return.
The Curzon Bloomsbury cinema is part of the Curzon group of cinemas that provide a higher end cinema experience with boutique interiors and often showing independent films as well as blockbusters. The cinema has been sympathetically refurbished in keeping with the listed building status using concrete interiors in a modern way.You can book twin seats but unlike Everyman these are smaller and closer together.Peak evening cinema screening cost an eye watering £16.50 each and the screen we were in was stifling hot which I hoped one of the ushers would have picked up and adjusted at that price. They have a well stocked bar and there is a unique style lift for those who need it.All of the screens are underground and accessed by stylish corridors.
A truly amazing cinema experience, wonderful building full of atmosphere. Superb staff all adding to a feeling of ‘special’ The film was pretty good too.
If you compare this one and the one in Soho, youll love this one. I was well served and informed about Bertha DocHouse. I had a satisfactory experience from my first documentary session in London. On my way out, I saw the café and I thought it faces to the park. I can chill out here. Tip: Grab your coffee have a sit facing the park or go there.
