Curtis Famous Weiners - Hot dog restaurant in Cumberland, United States
Great hotdogs and floats
Well, when you google chili dogs in an area and the results bring back a spot like Curtis Famous, as in been doing it for over 100 years, you have to make sure to get by this kind of a spot. They did not disappoint. First of all, they still know how to cook french fries properly! This doesnt sound like that big of a deal, but when you move as much as I do and eat as many fries, it is good to be reminded why you love them in the first place. Excellent! On to the dogs... Blown away. It is very simple. Steamed bun, a shot of yellow mustard, chili "Sauce" (ladled on with a confectionary spoonand a dash of raw onion. Less is definitely more because these dogs are awesome. The sauce is the super-star, but the mustard and onion are a great set of back-up singers. All together with a dog and a soft bun and youve got a sweet song. Finally, we had vanilla cokes. "Perfection"! I had 2, but I think my sweet spot will be right around 3. The cheeseburgers are on my list to try before leaving the area. The owner was a great guy and you can tell that his community loves him and his establishment. Well Done!
Home made chilli for the dogs very nice owners
Better than Coney Island dogs. Best lunch in the area
Stopped here for lunch while riding the gap and co and o trails. Great value for the quality though know its cash only. Gino and his employees extremely friendly. Would drive out of the way to stop here again I the future.
This was a great find! Tasty, old-timey, and cheap! Great dogs and milkshakes that came out fast. Nice people in a charming, rustic walk-up storefront. The wieners are small but inexpensive so order heavy. This is going to be a regular stop in town from now on.
Loved it! Weiner with everything is the way to go. Buns were tender and fresh, fries crisp and salty. Staff was fantastic. Helpful for every tourist and knew every local.
Stopped by Cumberland for lunch and found this restaurant on Google. First, the service is super quick and extremely friendly and welcoming. We originally weren’t sure what to get, so the gentlemen at the window gave us a sample of the weiners. We ordered the weiners with all the toppings, which include mustard, chili, and onions. We also got fries. The weiners were super tasty and the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside. Definitely will stop by again if I pass by western MD.
The most delicious hotdogs you could find in the country.
Its normally good but they messed my order up, wont be going back
They were closed today. They do serve my favorite coney dogs
Amazing! Absolute treat we stumbled across when in Cumberland cycling the GAP. Had a weiner to go and it was the best thing we have eaten all trip so far!
Every time I make it back to Cumberland I have to stop and get some weiners. Taste the same after all these years.
The guys that work here are great. I did to know it’s cash only, and there is no sign I saw that says cash only. Placed my order, waited to pay with my card. The gentleman inside basically said just pay next time you stop in, after he knew we are from out of state. Wow - I found a nearby ATM and got some cash, but how nice was that. Instead of trashing my order, he offered it to me to pay the next time.
Thank you for a great snack. Delicious dogs with all the toppings. We may have been expecting a larger dog but these were tasty. Next time we travel through we will snap up a couple of them and a cheeseburger!
I was doing a night walk around Cumberland and noticed signs saying this place has sold hot dogs for over 100 years. That got my attention. I went back to Cumberland the following afternoon to walk around during the day and eat. What better place than an old hot dog shop? I ordered through the window facing the sidewalk and couldn’t be happier. I ended up eating 4 with mustard, onions and their Coney Island sauce. I talked to the owner briefly through the window, he said he’s 3rd generation of hot dogs. Keep up the great work sir, I’ll be back anytime I’m in your area around lunch time.
Can’t beat the friendliness and tastiness of this spot! I popped in tonight on a whim as I was driving by on the highway and learning the spot is 103 years old when I was greeted at the little window was an awesome fun fact. The hotdogs and sauce were awesome, plus the accompanying chocolate milk made it all the much better. A must try if you’re driving by the area!
This place is historic. Ive loved it since childhood. Its a must try if you are in the area. "Give me 3 with". Unfortunately I moved away from the area 30 years ago, however on occasion I just have to have one of those hotdogs......so yes, I have driven 75 miles for some hotdogs 🌭
Great weiners! Incredible fries! Nice people.
Great Weiner! Bun was perfectly soft, toppings were spectacular. Will def go back. Two loaded weiners and a soda for $7. Make sure you bring cash, they dont take credit.
Gino is the best! Great to speak with and have nice fun time while waiting for some great dogs with sauce and onions. Also great chocolate milkshake!
I drove several hours to try the famous Weiner - Due to COVID restrictions i had to have the experience outside, I asked the worker what kind of hotdogs they had , i.e. (kosher, Hebrew national, Eskay, etc?he didnt hear me or was confused, He then said all beef, The hot dog was cold. tasted bad nothing spectacular nothing famous about it. The price was decent. I wouldnt go back.
Excellent hot dogs. I got mine with onions, the special sauce, and chili The milk shakes are very good as well.
Love Gins hot dogs.Love the atmosphere friendly.. Git famous ppl stopping here 4 coney hot dog .. Great fries love the milkshake. Stop by if never tried win win
The atmosphere of Coney Island still feels like it did when i was a child. There arent many places places to eat left in Cumberland that carries so much rich history. I just hope this place stays around for years to come. Also, Coney Island put a walk up window for customers, which just makes it so much more convenient. Love this place!!!!
Absolutely fantastic! Id definitely go back.
The greatest hotdogs there ever were, and ever will be. I grew up going here when Id visit my grandparents in Cumberland. Last time I stopped in was when I was in town for my grandmothers funeral, but with my luck they were closed for vacation. One of these days Im going to make the drive from Philadelphia just for them. You guys should partner up with Goldbelly!
Gino is very proud of his familys heritage and product line, and rightly so! He gave us an extra dog and vanilla soda to sample. 150 years family run business operation is very rare.... and its not a franchise! The hot dogs were good but to be honest we thought the fish frys were even better. Now Im sorry we didnt order a hamburger too. Everything reasonably priced. The abiance was cool and probably better seen in the daytime. Too bad no eat in at this time. Free parking across the street at night. Thanks Gino and God bless!
The whiners are for a specific taste. My son and I really enjoyed them and will definitely repeat. Probably without my wife and daughter. The place is clearly iconic, in a very cool part of a neat town.
Fantastic customer service! And even better wieners. Perfect chili, onion, mustard ratios. Cold fountain soda. Decadent chocolate shake. Was a perfect pit stop on a road trip that brought us through Cumberland. Will be back!
I showed up just after closure but the man(Gino?was kind enough to fix me up with a couple hotdogs and a delicious coke. When I offered to pay, he said its on the house. Thank you for the generosity! They were delicious too, a must stop if youre in town.
Randomly made a fuel stop in Cumberland and found this place by accident. Absolutely amazing food but a even better customer experience. Geno and Scoops made my family feel like we’ve been coming there for 20 years. Definitely going to be a ritual field trip when we head east!
Very disgusting place. We were greeted by a waiter saying "What do you want". Being the first time we had no idea. Asking for a menu was pretty much the worst thing ever to this guy. We got a sticky, dirty menu about 5 minutes later. Hotdogs came out on mangled buns, fries...an order is about 10 fries so keep that in mind when ordering, also got an order of chicken fingers. The chicken fingers consisted of a chicken patty cut into strips. Not sure if this is normal or they were out but it was weird. It was a horrible experience all the way out the door.
We just stopped for the first time. These guys were great! Ive never been to a restaurant and almost immediately felt like family. We watched football together on the TV and I was grabbing my own refills before I left. I brought my family of 5 and we had a great time! Cant wait to stop again. These guys offer true hospitality, friendliness, and good dogs and fries at a fair price.
They were so friendly. The cashier/cook even recommended the place next door to try for a job. The coney was exactly what my husband remembered from childhood. And even though they had moved a few doors down, the had the same booths and windows with the faded paint. They are a cash only place. Very inexpensive.
Nothing fancy, just a great hot dog. Theyve been making their Coney island dogs for over one hundred years! Have it with the famous chilli sauce. I also had a pretty darn good chocolate milk shake.
Been in business since 1918! I can see why because the hot dogs with the chili sauce are so delicious. Very quaint, small atmosphere that takes you back in time. Very friendly staff and the french fries are also very good. By the way, they have both Pepsi and Coke selections which is strange to see but very glad they do.
Ive been going there my whole life. The owner is awesome, the food is great. The have a good variety of other sandwiches to choose from. However, if hot dogs are your thing then you must stop by. His loaded dogs have brown mustard, onions and his special homemade chili. Hands down, the best hot dogs youll ever have, at an establishment whose owner gives back to the community. I cant say enough good things about Curtiss found on the downtown Cumberland Mall in Cumberland Maryland.
My first exposure to this place, and it was great! Not sure who the guy was that took our order, but he was definitely super friendly and cheerful. He alone was kinda worth going there. I had two dogs "with" (apparently the way you need to order them), and it was really good. No frills, but someplace you have to go if you visit Cumberland!
I stopped here en route to Pittsburgh.Ordered Coney Island Dog, Cheeseburger and fries. The meal was great and customer service was personalized and genuine which I dont come across on a frequent basis in the Washington, DC where I live. I will be back!
Best hotdogs and lunch deal in town!
When my wife and I travel back home to Cumberland to visit friends and family, going for dogs at Curtis is one of the first stops we make.
Curtis is the most important part of Cumberland Heritage. Its family owned. Most famous place in Cumberland. The atmosphere is so friendly. You feel like part of the family. Always greeted by a warm friendly face. No matter if you was raised here, visiting or just passing through Our Country Town, your made to feel like youre part of the family. Gino, is never to busy to stop and talk to you , and if you want to have a picture taken with him, he always takes the time to. If you want to reminisce about the history of Curtiss, hes always eager to oblige. He takes the time to even give you information on where you can park if youre just ordering to go, so you dont have to keep going around the block. The food is spectacular and always fresh and served with a warm welcome and smile. I could go on and on about Curtiss. A fantastic place to eat and learn of its Heritage and of Our Great City. A must Stop, on your visit .
I was in Cumberland and decided to try the place out. I ordered my hotdog and went to hand him my card and the cashier told me it was cash only. I dumped out all of my change but it wasn’t near the total. He said “we’ll call it even” and told me to have a good day. Amazing service and very considerate. Thanks for making my day!
I am 65 years old and I have been coming here since I was 6. I remember when it was called “coney island” and was on Baltimore street. I now live near Harrisburg pa but make sure I get here a couple of times a year. This is a tradition for my brother and I that I hope never gets taken away. Great job guys. The dogs, the service, the owner and the experience is absolutely the BEST.
Gino always does us up right, the one time that Gino wasnt there, we did end up getting burnt skins of the wieners (AKA hot dogs,so the meat inside the dogs was awful. As I stated that was the only time when the owner Gino wasnt present. Yes we HIGHLY recommend this place to just about anyone! Very tasty and satisfying!
Fun atmosphere. Old diner style space mixed with hot dog stand menu. Cheap and delicious hot dogs, fries and fountain cherry coke. They also have burgers on the menu but we didnt try them. BF says the sauce was great but I enjoyed it with just ketchup and a little bit of onion.Especially loved when the guys behind the counter started singing.A must do in Cumberland.
I was working out of town and googled "Best hot dogs around me". Curtiss was the first result, so I stopped. The friendliest employees! The hot dog with chili sauce, brown mustard, and onions, which I was told is their speciality, was delicious! I understand why its the speciality! Took my food to go because I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me. My only regret was not getting more hot dogs than I did. I contemplated turning around for more. I will absolutely go back if Im ever in the area again!!
The Best Specialty hot dogs in the area.No competition hands down!!Wonderful sauce, fresh grated onions, yummy dogs and fresh rolls!! Always served with a smile!!Add french fries and a milk shake for a perfect meal. Competes city wide for fast food and price!!
Outrageously inexpensive for a place this cool. The place runs without irony or conceit. Im not a hot dog guy, but I got a cheese sandwich which was just as I had expected it would be. My wife had the hot dog with all the toppings and loved it. Everyone was efficient and friendly.
