Large palace from the reign of Vlad III Dracula in the 15th century, now a museum.
Dont disturb us anymore, its closed.
Not much to see right now. I look forward to its restoration.
Well, there is not so much to see, some ruins and thats it, a little of History
Very nice place to look. Enjoyed visiting. Great history.
Closed for renovation and they do not update the timetable. Also, theyre turning it into a modern building apparently
Beautiful, peaceful place, worth to be visited
Place is closed as of 2022 and covered in scaffolding. Undergoing refurbishment. Looks like an interesting place to visit when ready.
It is a place full of history, old buildings and nice terrace.
An interesting and cheap sight into some medieval relics. A short historical lesson.
The church is awesome. Very ugly the buildings around it and the loud music from the locals.
It was temporarily closed for some archeological dig. A very spiritual and interesting place with a lovely church next door.
Local authorities take 0 care of this place. Unfortunately, its falling apart
When one strolls through the old centre of Bucharest, it is impossible not to notice and stop for a while in front of the archaeological site of the Old Court of Bucharest. This was the first Princely Court in Bucharest, used by numerous rulers and princes of Wallachia until the 18th century.Around 1386 – 1418, Mircea the Elder was the first to build here a citadel with brick walls and a moat. In the 15th century, his grandson, Vlad the Impaler, who was preparing to start a military campaign against the Turks, fortified the citadel and declared it a princely court, secondary to the one in Târgoviște. Radu the Fair, Vlad’s brother, was the one who moved the main court to Bucharest. The vestiges of the Old Court and valuable archaeological artefacts from that period were brought to light by numerous diggings that took place in 1953 and between 1967 and 1972. From that era you can see the brick and stone walls in the northern and eastern parts of the archaeological complex. Specialists claim that the princely castle had a surface of 900 sqm and was surrounded by an interior court of 100 sqm.Over the years, the complex suffered numerous essential changes. Mircea the Shepherd transformed the old citadel in a palace and ordered the erection of a princely church, which served as the crowning place of Wallachia’s rulers for two centuries. Under his rule, the court reached a surface of 25,000 sqm. Other rulers contribute to the court’s aspect, but its glow was given by Constantin Brâncoveanu and Ştefan Cantacuzino in the 18th century, when the palace was enriched with sculpted columns, imposing marble stairs and precious paintings, being surrounded by beautiful Italian gardens. Under their rule, the court was composed of a Princely Palace, a church (now known as the Old Court Church), houses with reception halls, the princely chancelleries and stables. Fires, earthquakes and attacks, as well as the lack of interest of the following rulers contributed to the princely court’s deterioration in the second half of the 18th century.Although for a time it was thought that the court had been completely destroyed, the archaeological works on the site revealed important ruins. Nowadays, the ruins of the Princely Palace have become a protected archaeological site, and an outdoor museum (the Old Court Museumhas been arranged inside the court’s premises. Here you can see the foundations of the first citadel, dating from the 14th century, the princely palace’s facilities (such as the water supply system or the Turkish baths), the exterior and interior decorations and the mural paintings. The touristic, scientific, historical and cultural importance of the Old Court archaeological complex makes it one of Bucharest’s main reference points.
Ancient touristic place with live music and good beer. But,, it is a touristic place and they are expecting to leave the money and go
Magnificent place
Nice the oldest church, but Curtea Veche is still under construction
Historic place, amazing architecture, great beer and live music. But it is a tourist place and they make it very clear they just want you to hand over your money and leave quickly. Food was hit and miss. Our waiter was nice, other staff really rude. We hooked ahead but still we (a table of twowere seated next to a large group of Chinese people who were shouting and moving the furniture around. Shame because it could be such a nice place.
Its not so much the building work going on , its the fact they have not put in some gaps for you to look through.
Good food with big portions, it can be crowded in weekends.
Unfortunately, still closed for renovation/rebuilding - nothing to see until it is finished 😓
The old palace from medieval Walahia rulers. very nice to see
Cool place, but will be better when construction is finished.
Nice but closed in 2018 for renovation
Have thief standing by around here! My wife’s wallet got stolen when she enter the church. There is a couple blocking the door and act strange when we try to get in! The police here is 200% unfriendly and unhelpful as well! Dun come here unless you wanna have stuffs lost and deal with unhelpful police in Romania.
There’s a hole in the green fence where you can peek through and see the statue.I wouldn’t complain...it’s good they are doing renovations around here
Unfortunately the place is under restoration...Very interesting though...I just saw it from a small hole from the restoration fences....Thats why I recommend 3 stars. The statue of Vlad Țepes is fascinating!Recommended!
Unfortunately, the entire area is presently undergoing renovation and view is blocked by huge green barrier screens. (Visited October 20, 2018).But as you walk along the Old Town street Strada Franceză you will find a convenient opening in the screen (if still there!which is located just in front of the statue of Vlad himself! But the walking area is very tight and people tend to gather to get a photo so have your camera ready. Not much else to see though.....
Beautiful spot in the old town with a lovely church. Make it part of a touristy old town walk!
Interesting.
Small church, commun inside, beautiful outside. Pay attention! There are pocket thief.
Typical small church in the heart of bucharest. Nice for a quick visit
Very mystical place...
Nice place to visit in Bucharest.. in the old town.
Just another church, nothing special.
Very old monument that dates from the Ottoman period, there is also the statue of Dracula, very interesting to see
Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula, was here too!
Nothing too much to see. While the history is rich, castle would be a much better choice. However its convenient though that a historical place in right in the middle of old town.
The place where Vlad The Impaler Dracula lived and becomed a true legend of christianity stopping the ottomans for a while and "taxing" the german merchants who didnt obey his state rules
(Almostnothing to see, just some old ruins surrounded by some recent ruins. If you are really passionate about Romanian history you might enjoy visiting this place (its not a Palace, dont be fooled by the name or the reviews). The old church has been renovated and now it retains (almostnothing of its original appearance.
Place is currently (summer 2017closed because of reconstruction but you can see most of the monuments from the street.
I shouldve learned about Bucharest, before visit!but it looks nice
Old ruins in center of old city
Its such a historical place and right in the center of the city!
Nice building, would recommend while you stay in the area
Still under restauration, however many of its buildings are visible from the street level.
Great piece of medieval history right in the center of town. Worth a visit. Its just a shame that the buildings in front of it are a bit of a mess a day take away from the experience. Also, during winter, the sidewalk in front of the gate can be a bit slippery.
Amazing historical place in the heart of the citys old town.
Could have used a bit more information and could definitely be made a little more interesting for tourists. Still worth a see though if youre into Vlad.
Nice medieval remains right in the center of Bucharest, a real attraction for history lovers.
This is Vlads actual castle. Shame its in ruins. Worth a stop by, but dont expect to be impressed. The subfloor brick arch section was a cool respite from the summer sun and made for some cool pictures. Not many visitors so great place for undisturbed photos. Worth the 18 RON for entrance and photographic tax.If the management of this place wanted to bring in more tourists, they just need to decorate in period motif and have period clothes available for photos. Play up the whole dracula bit. Or leave it as is, a quiet just-off the beaten path place.
