300 m noroeste Fabrica de Quesos Monteverde, Puntarenas Province, Monteverde, 60109, Costa Rica, San Carlos
Rainforest preserve featuring over 200 bird species & guided tours, including nighttime excursions.
beautiful park, many trails, you can literally walk for hours (we were there for 4h). there was barely any other people (we saw about 5so you can walk in quiet, listen and observe the nature (we saw few birds, squirrels, coatis and agoutis). we had long jeans and hoodies and it was perfect for the morning stroll (7am). we didnt book anything in advance (we went without a guide)
Great place to see wildlife. Do the guided tour and you will see alot more. Our guide, Jorge, was amazing. He had so much knowledge and information as well as a great personality. He helped us take excellent photos.
What a beautiful place in earth. Great spot to meet Mother Nature and explore Costa Rica.
One of my favorite places for birding. Saw several quetzals, blue morpho and other birds. Used " Three Brothers Tour Monteverde ". Very knowledgeable and helpful guide we had.
If you want to see birds and animals in Monteverde, Curi Cancha is the best options. Book a guide from TripAdvisor to maximize your experience. This reserve is a treasure trove of birds and you won’t be able to see much without a guide.Unfortunately, we were turned off by the $100 per person price for the bird watching tour offered by the reserve. We did not know at the time that one can get an independent guide for a very reasonable price. We will do that next time. Nevertheless, we saw beautiful Quetzals thanks to other helpful travelers
A wonderful nature preserve with amazing biodiversity. A typical tour takes between 2 to 2.5 hours but you can go as fast or as slow as you desire. Guides are available (for an extra feeand can make for a more rewarding experience. We walked about 60% of the trails before kids started to complain they were tired. Trails are dirt, or mud, and can be pretty steep at some points. This is a great place to visit May-December when the temperature is slightly lower and animals descend to lower elevations.
Best place in Monteverde to see wildlife. We went in without a guide and we have seen two quetzals and four three wattled bellbirds. But also plenty of other birds and other animals. Nice clean maintained hiking paths.
This was a great alternative to many of the more popular parks in the Monteverde area. It is particularly good for bird spotting but you have a good chance of seeing forest floor mammals too. This park tends to be quieter as it is one of the less visited and this helps a lot in getting to close to nature and the animals. The trails are deceptive, they done appear long but you can easily spend 3-4 hours here!
I booked the Birding morning tour for 4 hrs and I learned so much from David, the guide. We did both videos and photos using my own phone through his large telescopic lens. The trails are very easy to walk and the plant life was also very beautiful.. he made sure to tell us a like bit about everything, I left with loads of fresh information of the local birds, florals and insects too!
Really cool park, a must do if you are in Monteverde. Got to see a lot of wildlife thanks to our amazing guide Viktor (+506 8308 9705), who was very knowledgeable and great at spotting animals!
Highly recommended. Well run and sign posted. Lots of paths to explore and an array of views, species and nature experiences to enjoy.
I went without a guide so I didnt see as many animals as I might have, but I did see several toucans, some capuchin monkeys, and a few other very cool birds. It was beautiful scenery and visiting the weather change at the continental divide was awesome! The restrooms were also clean. There are a lot of mosquitoes though!
A cloud forest in a rainforest, a Costa Rica style win-win!
If nature could hug you with both hands then this tour has it all. Once again our guide was kind and passionate about teaching us all about the trees and the animals and all things nature. We are on a family trip to Costa Rica 🇨🇷 and highly recommend this place. It doesn’t disappoint. Pura VIDA 🤙🤙
After experiencing multiple other reserves in Monteverde, this felt like birding on hard-mode. This may be the perfect place for a birding guide because we heard so many species and struggled to really nail down their exact location! Although we werent our most successful with birds, we did see toucans (bless up to the binoculars we rented for $11and a few cool mammals! The trails are super well kept if not a *little* confusing to follow (signage is everywhere but felt a bit off sometimes). I highly recc visiting this spot because we know theres so many amazing bird species, and it felt less crowded than other spots.
Easily the best reserve in the area for spotting wildlife, beats Monteverde Cloud Forrest and Santa Elena hands down.Spotted lots of hummingbirds, a couple of toucans, many other birds. Also lots of butterflys, a frog and even a coati. All without a guide !Only fault, even though it sounds very touristy is that somewhere to get a drink after a busy day wildlife spotting would be great.
Did a night tour and saw a fair few animals, a 2 toed sloth among other things. The guide was very friendly. We had bad weather unfortunately and I imagine if the weather was better that we would have seen a lot more.
We had good time walking the reservation, the paths are well organized, we saw some capuchin monkeys, coati, butterflies and some birds. The day started sunny and then the famous clouds covered the forest.Highly recommendable.
Very cool spot, good for birding and other wildlife. More open areas than the cloud forests. We used Three Brothers Tours for our guide and Elbert was a great guide.
We had a wonderful time doing the early morning bird watching tour, which lasted about 4.5 hours. We saw almost 45 different species (and had many more near misses)! Our guide David was super friendly, extremely knowlegable and clearly a passionate birder. One rare siting (an Eastern Kingbirdhad him calling his colleagues up, one of whom came running over 5mins later in the hope of seeing it too. At $100 per person it might sound expensive but was worth every penny.
We had the most fun and informative birdwatching tour with Hector here! Such a wonderful place to spot the most beautiful of the birds. Hector was very obviously the best when you see other guides come asking for information.
Ummm 🤔 how to review this place. Was more a ‘bird’ tour than a whole ecosystem tour. Can’t fault the guide, great communicator in Español & English, really enthusiastic about the reserve and the birds that are there. He supported us with photos though his telescope 🔭.Not sure where the $45 (for 2entry fee is going? Doesn’t appear to be any conservation work or support for local animals/wildlife etc. There was no information about what the reserve is trying to achieve. (This may be the same for the other reserves around here).Quite a busy reserve so you will bump into other groups and spend 20mins looking up for a bird!Maybe some days you will have more luck to see more mammals etc. After the tour you can walk around if you wish.
Really nice smaller park but still multiple hours worth of hikes. We barely saw any people but plenty of animals. Multiple armadillos, loads of hummingbirds, some lizards and many other birds. Some amazing viewpoints as well.
The morning wildlife tour was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had in Monteverde! Our guide was Jorge, and he was so pleasant and eager to show us whatever wildlife he could. We saw hummingbirds, toucans, toucanets, white faced capuchin monkeys and heard wild boar. Jorge was kind enough to take beautiful pictures with our phones through his telescope. He explained about the sounds animals make and the relationships between them. We enjoyed conversing with Jorge a lot, he has so much knowledge. Definitely worth it.
We had a lovely time here. We saw lots of humming birds, an armadillo and a coati. We got there a little late in the morning so we take the blame for not seeing as much as we would have liked. The highlight for me and our kiddos as well was for sure the Ficus tree! They all climbed around inside and it was just spectacular!
Curi cancha is a nice reserveThe best is to hire a Naturalist GuideEntrance fee $20 foreingNo doubts you will enjoy it
Lovely reserve comes with a high price tag - $20 per person. The trails are beatiful to walk. We did not see wildlife because we did not get a guide.
Curi Cancha is a wonderful preserve near Monteverde. We had a highly knowledgeable guide with good English skills. They preserve is well constructed with wide trails providing access to all the places you might see birds and other wildlife. This is a very highly rated birding site but if it wasnt for our guide, I would have missed most of them. The guides can easily identify birds by their calls, making it much easier to find them in the dense forest. As they do this daily, they know pretty much what birds are there and where to find them.If you are in the area and enjoy birds you wont want to miss this place.
Wonderful night walk with Elbert. He was a very knowledgeable guide. We saw insects ie scorpions and stick insects, birds ie motmot, hawk, thrush, frogs, nocturnal mammals. It was very informative and we learned a lot.The reserve was safe and easy to navigate in the night.
Nice walk and experience of the forest and animals (specialy the birdswith an incredible guide Rafaele (he speak french, english and spanish). 20$ entrance fee for the park.
This morning I did a Natural History Tour at Curi Cancha. Great experience! Our guide Jorge told so much about the reserve and the animals. And he spotted a lot of them. Besides that he teached us how to make nice photos with our phones. Recommended, five stars!
Lots of variety in trails and forest, monkeys, butterflies, birds, Pizote, Agouti, and snakes at night. Well maintained. They have some upcoming projects that will be lovely. The road in is very rough.
If you decide to visit this reserve, I recommend that you reserve a private guide called Roy. He is great, takes the time to explain everything.
Great night tour. We opted for a private tour with Tony. Saw plenty of critters and Tony was a very good guide.
Very beautiful park!! Youll see lots of stunning birds. I highly recommend to take a tour guide for this park. We scheduled ours from our hotel (camino verde)
This is a smaller nature park with wide, well manicured trails. Here you may see the rare and beautiful Resplendent Quetzal, and many other avian species. Hiring a guide is highly recommended as the birds are hard to spot on your own!
Magnific natural reserve. We spotted alone lots of animals and the place is really good Managed. Signaled on every crossing and all clear. 100% nature
Very nice trails and cloud forest. Seen lots of animals and birds, unfortunately no quetzal that morning.
We came for a Night Hike with our children, 11 and 16 and it was amazing. Our guide was educational, teaching us all about the Cloud Forest and found some great animals (and took some amazing pictures with my cell phone). Definitely worth the money if you want to learn a lot and have a much better opportunity of seeing wildlife. Just be realistic and patient. We had a wonderful time and will certainly return on our next visit to Monteverde.
Explored here during the day as well as took a night tour and loved both. Great trails, beautiful scenery and lots of animals!
This park has so many different paths its perfect for anyone. You can choose short, medium or long paths depending on the time you have. You receive a map at the entrance and there are signs along the entire park so you can easily find your way. We went in without a guide a spotted a few birds and agoutis. We didnt rent a car so had to take a taxi to and from Santa Elena, which cost about $10 USD each. This park is such a peaceful place and great for a walk surrounded by nature.
I loved playing with the hummingbirds! The trails are beautiful and easy to walk. Lots of wild life also
nice park, even though very expensive entrance...get the discount cards and you should have a 7 doll reduction.very busy at start, many many groups of tourists and guides...hard to feel all alone in the nature but still worth it.keep walking in the forest away from the entrance of thé park, then youll be alone and enjoy wind in the trees and bird noises! and might see some QUETZALS!!
If you go there, you have to go with a guide, otherwise you will miss so many things. Thanks to our guide we saw many quetzals, tucans, an eagle, many hawks, all kinds of birds, and a coati. The reserve gives plenty of very nice spots and is in an excellent shape. There are even bathrooms in the midst of the reserve.
First class tour. David the tour guide was amazing, he made sure we got the history of the reserve, found plenty of animals for us to see, and helped us take photos on our phones. Highly recommend, the guide was passionate and made sure we left with a satisfying experience.
Curi-cancha Reserve was a beautiful place to hike. It was quiet and peaceful. Nature was undisturbed. The trails were easy to medium, and my mother with a hip replacement and her cane managed to walk for 1+ hours over hill and dale. We saw agoutis, hummingbirds, lots of other birds, and a bright green snake that we believe is some sort of viper. There are many, many trails. You could walk for 30 minutes or hours and hours. I highly recommend a visit to Curi-cancha Reserve.
Where do I start! This place is AMAZING! We asked for a guided tour and we had Jorge Alpizar Rodriguez as our guide. He was extremely knowledgable and had a background on herpetology, entomology, ornithology and botany. He knew most of the bird calls as well as their behaviors and was able to help us find the following birds: three wattled Bell bird, resplendent quetzal, Ruddy woodcreeper, northern barred woodcreeper, black breasted quail dove and the northern emerald toucanet. Since both my husband and I are entomologists it was refreshing to have a guide who also helped us find some insects that we had never seen before such as the two spotted tiger beetle, unidentified skipper butterfly and a cacoon of a moth that we had never seen before. He also gave us a fun talk about the native fruits of Costa Rica that made us laugh. You can tell the naturalists from this reserve really love what they do and they make sure to provide you a quality experience. Did I mention the tour was 3 hours long?! Yea it didnt feel like it because all the fun and adventure made the time fly by! Make sure to email the reserve in advance and make a reservation since they only let a few people a day and make sure to bring a copy of your passport too! They ask for a form of identification in order to enter the reserve. Highly recommend!
Loved this placeThe trails are so well done and Well taken care offAnd the forest is just amazing
A fantastic nature reserve with good opportunities to see a range of animals and different trees. The walk is not demanding and with well marked paths its easy to get around. There are plenty of guides who provide tours here, is best if you can find a small group to go with.
Absolutely amazing!!! We had a personal guided tour that made it even better. Saw amazing wild life! Very nicely maintained with nice facilities!
