Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in West Chicago

Food was good and freshly cooked. The manager on duty that night was friendly and made sure I was satisfied with my food purchases.

Best country style chicken fry! The batter was great! Biscuit was delicious but the gravy was average in taste. Definitely going to visit again!

Decent food and lots of place for indoor seating. Service was bit slow. Had to wait almost half an hour to get our order. I was charged extra and later had to deal with manager to correct the check. Free parking available outside restaurant.

I had someone scam my gift card and depleted the account. Cracker barrel made it right and took care of it. Great food and service 👌

They were very busy but still gave great service. Very reasonably priced. Good place with littles!!

Loved their breakfast and menu of options. Bit longer than usual wait times, but worth the wait.

Service was really slow. When they served our meals they immediately took away the biscuits because they were supposedly undercooked. New ones came out when we were nearly finished eating.The sawmill gravy was like library paste but the dumplings and chicken were terrific.Well be back Im sure.

So... there I was... driving around on an Early October Morning after seeing a Scarecrow Contest in a little town by the River known as St. Chalres... Those scarecrows gave me a hunger for a Good Old Fashion Country Breakfast with Freshly Harvest Fruit. I had not noticed how far I had driven just dreaming about how nice a Breakfast like that would be... WHEN SUDDENLY... (by the way, there is always a SUDDENLY, in any of my reviews)... now where was I... OH oh... **SUDDENLY**... I saw a sign that meant GOOD OLD COUNTRY FRESHNESS AND QUALITY... just ahead on the next exit... And so... I DID... Now once inside... a kind gentleman gave greeting at a welcoming station and then he showed me to my seat. I wanted to remember this moment so I asked to be seated by the window where the light was a little better for my camera... And before I knew it... A LOVELY WAITRESS WITH PURPLE HAIR that I found very attractive said hello and took my order. When she brought my coffee she also gave me ice water and told me that my order will be right up. I could smell the Freshness and Quality as I tried to play with the little game sitting on the table and... well... I LOST AGAIN... BUT THEN... (here we go again)...... **SUDDENLY**... as I lost the game... I won because my Breakfast had arrived. And it was FANTASTIC. It was the STUFFED CREAM CHEESE PANCAKE MEAL with Fresh Harvest Strawberries in a Strawberry Glaze, Powdered Sugar and Whipped Cream. It also came with Farm Fresh Eggs, Tasty Country Sausage and a Fantastic Country Flavored Hash Brown Caserole perfectly prepared. And then the Lovely Waitress asked... "IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN GET YOU"... She was so nice I wanted to say to her... "YES... YES THERE IS... YOUR COMPANY AS MY DATE FOR BREAKFAST"... Hey, maybe you have a date that you can take there for breakfast. Oh they have a store there also and the both of you can shop for Old Country Items, you just dont see anymore. They can be items that will hold a Great Memory, of a Breakfast Moment, to Remember.Below is my first visit.You know that feeling you get when its the Weekend... and it feels like your going over to Grandmas House for her Homemade Weekend Breakfast?... First the Lovely Waitress takes your name and they will email you once your table is ready... But its the Weekend and there are Old-Fashion Novelty Items in the Gifts Store for that Shopping Craze while you wait... Once seated... your drink order arrives followed by your meal. This is GRANDMAS SAMPLER BREAKFAST that almost seems like Grandma made the Butter herself... Such a Back Home Again Country Taste... Once you get over looking at how Grandma seemed to have made the ONE OF A KIND TASTING PANCAKES... You see what seems to be Farm Fresh Eggs... along with a Flavorful Hash-Brown Casserole. Followed by Smoked Sausage and Crispy Bacon... And another nice thing is that once you have finished your meal... you can go shopping for more of the Back Home Novelty Gifts... Now keep in mind that Grandma wants you to come back... FOR DINNER...

Go several times a month. Great food, fast and great service and so fairly priced!!!So we havent gone to Cracker Barrel for a while. Im gonna guess maybe a year or so. We were having such bad service and cold food at our 2 locations we go to. Not going to directly blame the restaurants. Im going to assume due to lack or employees. Seemed like they were struggling.Well on our trip to/from TN from IL we saw so many billboards for the cream cheese pancakes and decided it was a sign to give them another chance.Well they have redeemed themselves. Hopefully they can keep it up because we really like Cracker Barrel.

Prices were good, portions were good but food doesnt taste the same. Also they are just as racist as they were before but that didnt stop me from enjoying my breakfast.

Closest youre gonna get to Good ol Southern Food w/o heading to Tenn, Kentucky, etc as it gets. Eat here all the time. Never disappointed. Really KooL little store to browse/shop at with lots of nostalgics too.*My suggestion: Chicken fried Chicken w/ gravy, dumplings, and cheesy casserole 🙂

I think living in Chicago with legit soul food has spoiled me along with cooking Southern food at home. Its average food at best and didnt seem like homemade food. It seems like reheated stuff out of cans. Ill stick to soul food restaurants from now on.

Amazing Food. Only reason for the 4 stars, is some of the waitstaff dont like to check to see if you need drink refills.

Food and service was point on! The most important thing that I loved is that this restaurant has a book that they can look up the ingredients of the dishes so you can know for sure if a dish is safe to eat if you have a good allergy or intolerance. Very important for a person like me! The side of dumplings was great. And so was the fish. But the dumplings was what I remember the most. The strawberry - lemonade was perfect a little sweet with the tart after taste that I love. Definitely will be back when Im in the area.

Got seated and there was a sour rag discusting smell that overcame us. We feel it was whatever they clean the floors with since we got there soon after it had opened. I had some scented disinfectant spray which helped get us thru. Come on Cracker Barrel instruct the staff to change water and use proper cleaners to avoid that discusting smell . How clean could the floors have been if water and mop smell like that. Um bacteria! Gross

The gravy was DOG FOOD! There was zero sausage in the gravy (Isnt the dish biscuits and sausage gravy?was seasoned with artificial bacon flavor that made it all taste like a dog treat smells.Puke. Sorry

Good food, great service, fabulous gift shop with just lovely staff. The whole experience made me happy!

The waitress was very nice and tried her best. The breakfast menu is a joke. Every item we got as a table was either cooked incorrectly or out right gross. The eggs were completely under cooked, messed up the ham at least 2 times in a row. The "hot" tea water was ice cold. The pancakes tasted like an overly oily funnel cake. The grits were undercooked with no flavor. It was almost just hot water with uncooked grits floting around. The prices in that restaurant, from the food to the gift shop, is so expensive I was tempted to leave before I even ordered. Against my judgment I stayed and wasted money on a terrible breakfast experience.

Had a 25 minute wait for seating which is expected and not a problem. We ordered and was watching other people be seated and received their food while we were still waiting for ours. When it came 40 minutes later it was cold. Eggs are not good cold unless they are boiled. I sent it back.... Awaiting to see if it is better

Food was delicious. Tara was an excellent waitress! She was very very nice and gave us exactly what we wanted with no hesitation!

Love this family Gathering Place for dinner lunch or breakfast great ambience and Trading Post the employees are very polite and helpful and friendly the food is the best home cooking recipes and yes the biscuits are still made from scratch great place for friends and family the kids will enjoy and remember I am of the house of Elohim

Cracker barrel is nothing like what I remember, air conditioning blasting onto tables causing food to go cold incredibly fast. Quality of food has gone downhill completely. I myself choose never to eat there again.

i have been coming to this cracker Barrel with my family for many many years. i understand how business has been crazy with workers who just dont want to work but today after getting to the restaurant in a lunch rush and waiting for 40 minutes for a table(no big deal we browsed the storewe were seated after our name was called. we were seated at a table and waited for literally 27 minutes with no service, nothing. Everyone around us was waited on and given drinks and the servers even told them they were a little busy. we understand places are short staff but to be ignored over 7-8 times while they walked past us not to even offer us water or anything was absurd. now maybe they thought " ugh i dont want to serve them they have a small child". i dont know what they were thinking but just under waiting at the table for 30 minutes and getting no service i asked for a manager and all the server can do is say "i apologize i had a big party walk in" well that doesnt matter when you have a few other tables being seated. i get it we can be overwhelmed with guest but to have a family sit their and not be greeted or even offered any water is ridiculous. we just left that was unacceptable. just a bad experience from Cracker Barrel.

This establishment was extremely racist. It took the waitress 10 min to acknowledge us and then I had to call them over to take our order. It then took a full hour and still no food so we decided to leave. There were two tables that arrived 30 minutes later and got their food before ours. Never has bacon eggs and pancakes taken over an hour to cook.

Usually easy at the cracker barrel closer to our house, but errands brought the wide and I out here, gladly. The gravy tastes so much better, the biscuits are awesome, bacon was perfectly cooked. Would highly recommend for his breakfast at a great price.

Been a while since I have been to a Cracker Barrel restaraunt. However I will be soon to return. The food was hot, and fresh. Good portions and good prices together make it even better. Had amazing service from Haley, who made sure all of her tables were attended to despite the restaraunt being extra busy. I highly reccomend this restaraunt, and if you do come try their fried chicken, its to die for!

Hadnt been here in almost 2 years and wait was about 45 min. Sat outside in a rocking chair. They ar so comfortable.Got seated and ordered food. Maybe 25 min when food arrived. Was hot tasted great- forgot to take a picture. My drink was empty and she never asked if I wanted a refill.I know they were busy, but it would have been a 5 star dinner.

Me & my hunny finally were able to get in here! Haha we went on A Sunday around 9:30am-10am & we were seated right away! Staff was really friendly & the choices of food were good & nicely priced! I havent been to a Cracker Barrel in years so when I saw that they now serve alcoholic beverages I was very happy haha. Only negative I can say is I didnt really care much for the sirloin steak tips :/ besides that everything was delicious! Will be going back for sure 👍

Nice food as is with CB but my question is how is possible to spread frozen butter on a cold biscuit. For the most part the food wasnt as hot as in accustomed to at other CB throughout the US. I was tired from working in the heat and hungry from not eating all day so I passed on the tell the Mgr to fix it. My waitress was exceptional even saw her busing her own tables.. WOW!!!

Ive eaten here before and the staff is always polite and quick to serve. The food is good not fancy, but plentiful. Prices are fair and its a step back in time. Just take a deep breath and relax. Thats what its about. Then you can shop in their little store . Always a kick

EDIT- Just left on a Friday evening for dinner. We ordered a good amount of food. Some was good and some was barely edible. The fried chicken was way overcooked. Barely edible. The wing had dried up to the point there was barely any meat on the bone. The leg was the same. Never got any refills or checked up on. Im not one to complain as I know things can be stressful on a Friday night. CB usually never lets us down but this is the second time food has been a miss at this location. Probably will drive to a different location in the future. Everyone on staff was very welcoming and polite though, so at least there was that.

Had a great server! Food was good, even though it was very busy.Appreciated being able to use the waitlist option on their app. We were seated very quickly after we arrived.

We were seated right away, which was great! But, after placing the order, food took a long time. Bacon wasnt as good as I remembered.

We were seated promptly which is a very good thing. However, the service was much too slow, restaurant was not exceptionally busy during this time. Someone one said "happy wife, happy life" well the wife was clearly not happy, it will take a act of God to bring her back. 😔

Always loved Cracker Barrel. I always get my usual. Lemon-Pepper Trout, corn, Broccoli and Fried Okra. Yum! And I can never leave without buying something from their gift shop. Usually candy that brings back childhood memories.

The service wasnt that great, we didnt have a great experience. I have been to other cracker barrel and they been great. The food wasnt that great. My husband didnt like any of his food. The stuffed pancakes with cream cheese was great. I wont be coming back to this location.

First time here believe it not but will most definitely not be my last I love it here, I had the fried chicken dinner while my wife had chicken fried steak and all we can say is yummmmmmmy please go you wont regret it.

Excellent Southern food Breakfast is always good and dinner is also good too You cant go wrong to try them out pretty much everything they make is excellent

I went here yesterday and ordered Southern Fried ChickenDinner for myself and ordered a Sweet and Smoky Glazed Tenders to go. The chicken dinner was great cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The Chicken Tenders however were not done and the broccoli was hard. I normally give this place a four or five star rating but because of what I experienced yesterday I gave a three star rating.

Havent been to CB in a minute since the top of the pandemic. Im pleased to say this location is great and has a good friendly morning staff. I ordered curbside. I tried something new. The Sunday Homestyle Chicken Biscuit Breakfast. Hands down one of the best biscuit sandwiches Ive had in a long time. Will be returning for another one asap

Great food, outstanding pancakes and service. Isabel was very friendly and a great server to boot. Cant wait to come back. PS: try the Louisiana Gold Hotsauce they carry.

Breakfast was good and at a decent price to boot. My wife and I stopped here for a late breakfast. She had the build your own, steak, eggs, biscuits and gravy with a side of fried apples. I had the three pancake meal (forget the namethat had pancakes, eggs and I chose bacon.Food was great, coffee was okay and I had to remind them we needed silverware to actually eat but overall a pleasant experience.We also did a little shopping in the store.

Who doesnt love breakfast for lunch?! I was sad they no longer have turkey sausage patties...HOWEVER they do offer spicy chicken sausage links. They were yummy. I also love their pancakes. The eggs were disgusting. Very runny on the inside. Ew. I pushed them aside and enjoyed the potatoes.This was my first time visiting in 2 years. It was fun and cozy. The lemonade is still great!

AMAZING FOOD!!!! We had the loaded hashbrown casserole tots and they were really, really good. The strawberry mimosa...yummm!!! The prices for the amount of food you get is crazy.

I absolutely love this place! I cannot drive by a Cracker Barrel and not stop! Its like it takes you make into time. All the decor is vintage, youll think you where walking into your Grandmoms house or some old farm. Lots of interesting food and merchandise to choose from. Also, if you go be sure to grab one of these rocking chairs starting at $99. No kitchen is complete without one!

I went to shop in the store. They have the best Christmas decorations! Most were 50% off! Ending up getting a meal to go. Delish! A lot of people picking up to go orders. Friendly associates!

Food was good, John gave us great service. Food was hot, and tasted great, season was on point where it needed to be. The whole store, restaurant, and bathroom was clean. Like every other Cracker Barrel it had the same style as every other one, to be honest I prefer it, I know when I go to some Im going to get the same great service, same great food in the same great atmosphere. This is another good one Cracker Barrel please keep up the great work.

Food was ok but I don’t think we will be coming back anytime soon.I had the dinner special with the hamburger steak and hashbrowns and fried okra. The steak was dry and appeared to have been frozen and we cooked. My wife had their breakfast special, waitress was good, food was ok only complaint was a side of 1 pancake was a little high at $4.

Nothing better then Cracker Barrel breakfast food. Nothing. Great service and did I say Yum? Feb 2017First off really bad service! Coffee was worse then its ever been. I ordered mommas french toast and it was undercooked but I forced down half. Our waitress disappeared so apparently the orange juice I ordered wasnt meant to be. Bacon and eggs were great. Maybe I just had a bad waitress and ordered the wrong thing but I wont be coming back. The manager that I addressed did not apologize or care about my experience. He took some money off the bill and walked away. I would have rather had an apology. Dec 2018
