Crab Farm Winery - Winery in Napier, New Zealand
We had our wedding here recently, and highly recommend. Gemma and her team were so helpful and made it a stress-free day for us. Great food and ambiance.
Had Lunch here on Sunday.Fantastic rustic setting, warm & friendly staff as well as great food.Best Pork Belly Ive had in ages and the vineyards wines are good too.Highly recommend
Right from the start, Gemma and her team at Crab Farm winery were awesome. Communication, cost, and location were perfect for our National David Reid Homes Conference. The venue was beautiful, the food was fantastic, and the service during the evening was spot on. Easy to get to via the e-bikes we hired as well as by car or bus pick up. All and all 5 stars, 10/10 would recommend Crab Farm Winery for any corporate events, from the David Reid Homes Group office.
As a part of my sperm donation new zealand tour, I was lead to the crab farm, Nice vibe and atmosphere, food menu wasnt ready when i arrive but menu you looked nice.
What a beauty of a day we went, perfect weather and scenery, food and service was fantastic, thank you for hosting us
Amazing atmosphere!! Live music (went on Saturday evening), great wine, incredible scotch fillet with wonderful deserts.
Wonderful place, had coffee and a walk around the vineyards before lunch and sampling some of their wines. Fantastic friendly staff and a very enjoyable way to spend several hours would def go back.
Great lunch beautiful food great service 👍
Best food in whole HB 🤗 falling in love with this place. Staff are always so friendly and very helpful with anything. Definitely our favorite place to go 🙂
Great atmosphere and lovely food. Thanks for the great service
Wonderful views, decent food and drinks, nice atmosphere.
Had a wine tasting. Delicious wine and great service from the host
The portions are amazing and it is at a convenient spot as well
Had a lovely wine tasting here. The wines we tried were delicious and Aasta very knowledgeable. The cheese platter was also really good with lots of cheese and fruit and amazing presentation.
Visited with locals who had previously been to this charming vineyard in Hawkes Bay. We were greeted and scanned at the door by a lovely waitress who took us to our outdoor seats. We managed to get a shaded area as it was hot and humid that day. (I had to take the sheep skin rug off my chair as it was so hot to sit on). The menu was very small which I liked, and we also asked if they had oysters which a "new waitress" said they may have. We had selected the bubbly to start and it came out swiftly. The wine was absolutely wonderful but we would have loved it if the wait staff had explained to us which one was which. We ordered our food and asked a third waitress if there was oyster only to which she said "im not sure". As no one came back to say there was or there wasnt any oysters, which we found out after several attempts that actually there wasnt any. Now, to the food. Seriously, everything about this vineyard was incredible, I can not find the words to describe how divine the wine or the stunning Vista of vineyards with its charming tractor and rustic vibe, but the food was terrible! Everything was covered in packaged coleslaw. We ordered the platter which seemed to have had mussels from a punnet, garlic bread from the bakery and coleslaw strewn through it all which seemed to have carried right thru to the mains. Two friends ordered the same dish, the fish. One friend had more fish on her plate than the other friend, once again on a bed of a package coleslaw with the same dressing that was on the pplatter. Chewy fatty pork belly, once again, on that coleslaw. It was such a shame that the food let down this place. The friends who booked the table were embarrassed as they had talked it up and said their experience at crab farm was brilliant. Everything was brilliant but the coleslaw drenched food was definitely enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I hope to visit again but not if theres packaged coleslaw on the menu.
Beautiful winery. Large playground out the way, very cool art shack and lovely wine selection. Tastings value for money and free if you buy wine. We certainly did. Great place and the food (although we didn’t trylooked amazing we will be back when back in the Napier.
Great outdoor dining space and lovely live music on Friday and Saturday nights.Went a couple times over Christmas! Really enjoyed the seafood platter, the steak, fish and even the chicken schnitzel. The lemon/passionfruit cheesecake was excellent, light and delicious not too sweet. Very delicious, great portions, very full and satisfied. Some of the other dishes could use some improvement though. The pork belly was well presented, a huge serving but not as juicy as I hoped, a little bit on the dry side. The creme brulee looked amazing but while burnt on top, it was icy cold. :(It was both a busy night, so I would recommend to book ahead and go early, because they do run out of some menu items.
Really lovely rustic relaxed casual restaurant, tasty food, good service
Really nice lunch. I had Paua and the new (coldIndian dish. Nicky had Fish Pakora and Pork Belly (surprise surprise!). All were excellent as was the wine and friendly service. Do yourself a favour and go there!
Beautiful restaurant and food, well organised and a great atmosphere. Loved the music and the giant fire in the middle.
Went for daughters 18th lunch with family. Were not told that there was a private function when booking, reservation for 1 and had to be out by 3. Dishes that they had run out of, slow service, when taking drink orders would get part way round table and just walk off to come back 5 minutes later. Requested a doggie bag for average steak I was going to give to dog but they said never asked for so threw out. Would not recommend due to service.
We love this restaurant so much we returned for a second Friday in a row & bought our guests from out of town this time. Such a great atmosphere with a huge central fire, candle light, guitarist playing our favourite tunes. On top of all that staff are friendly & efficient, wine and food are excellent...what more could you want! Good idea to make a reservation as this restaurant clearly gets very busy.
most delicious creamed paua with frybread. The food and service in general was great along with the atmosphere...The side of frozen shoestring fries was disappointing though, compared to everything else
Amazing Vegan Pasta had our whole family there awsome event really chilled out :D
Awesome for photos, lots of nooks and crannies - great for functions, etc. We didnt like the wine though, a bit sour. Also, the platter is overpriced for what you get. Quite close to Napier.
Omg the food is awesome. Make sure you book so you are not disappointed. Also look out for the music nights they have there too.
Awesome gallery and building cladding inside and out.
We stopped here for lunch on our way to Mahia today, we have tried in the past to eat here but with no luck as they are always busy. Well today was just perfect. Jan had the seafood platter which was packed to the hilt, and I had a great pork loin. We did the wine tastings which was fun, and then looked in the art shop, well worth a visit, the lady in the shop was great. The servtice in the restaurant was fantastic, as was the young lady serving us. She knew her stuff on th e local wines. Many thanks M & J.
I have always loved Crab Farm, however last Friday night I went there and initially the service was OK, the meal was good, then no one came back to see us after that. We were a table of 2. First one of us ordered a beer, which was never given to us. We waited 30 minutes for someone to collect our plates &/or our waitress to bring the dessert menus, but no once came. Pretty sure our waitress was the maitre d, because she was doing paperwork inside at the end of the night. We ended up leaving & I got a choc brownie from the counter to take away (delicious). No one asked us how the meal or service was, otherwise I would have told someone. Very disappointing experience from a place I usually think of as a Go To.
We had a lovely meal on Sunday 7th February but unfortunately after being given the dessert menu we gave up waiting for someone to take our order after 30 minutes. I mentioned it at the counter but the person wasnt worried. No apology. Disappointing really.
Was such a pity. After an awesome stay in Napier we decided to hire bikes with the whanau and bike out to Crab Farm. Arrived to an awesome setting. Parked up and went on in excited for a bite to eat and to sample some wine. Boooooo what a stink welcome. Told they were at capacity and could not provide food but begrudgingly we could get a drink if we went and sat outside. No worries, happy as to have a drink and sit out by our bikes. The woman that served us looked like she had just had a feed of lemons and wanted to be anywhere other then where she was. Have not had such stink service in an extremely long time. Poor work Crab Farm.
Wonderful dinner listening to music, highly recommended.
Attended Crab Farm recently for lunch as a group of 6.We had 2 platters, Winemakers and Seafood. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food which we felt was great value and amount provided met everyones needs.Wine was well matched with food.Great rustic environment which encourges a relaxed visit.Staff were helpful and lovely.Very happy with visit.
Great country, relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic food & wines to acompany it. Amazing ,friendly, cheerful staff. The chefs are amazing because the food always comes artisticlly presented and appatising. Highly Recomend this place🙂🙂🙂
We arrived here for a wine tasting after two fantastic tastings at Moana Park and Trinity Hill, where we purchased 11 bottles of wine between the two wineries. When we arrived at the front counter we were just looked at and not greeted at all. We had to ask if they were doing tastings and the answer was a begrudging “yes”. My partner said jokingly to the girl “Oh don’t sound so enthusiast “ to which we received a slight smile but no change in attitude. We were given a tasting menu and told it was $10 to taste, but that several of the wines on the list were not available. We were not asked if we would like a seat to make our choices. We certainly felt we were not welcome so we left. This was going to be the last tasting of three local vineyards and we were looking forward to it as we had been here before for lunches and functions. Definitely will not recommend or go back.
Cosy and rustic atmosphere with a roaring brazier-type fire. The setting and furniture are quite rustic - as are the toilets! But the service was great and the food excellent. Make sure you visit the Art Shed, too.
Worse wine experience ever. I had high expectations about this place but upon arrival we were greeted by a rude lady behind the counter. When I asked for a wine tasting, the response we were given was "Yeh, I guess so". After that, we were poured 3 good tasting wines. But instead of the usual wine tasting experience where you are given a rundown about the wine, we were presented with a laminated card about each wine and the lady behind the counter just walked off. Maybe we have been spoilt with the amazing wineries in this area but surely as an absolute minimum at every winery you should at least have a friendly face and an explanation about what you are drinking. We didnt purchase anything from here out of principle and left empty handed, never to return again.
My partner and I shared the seafood platter today. It was beautiful and could not be faulted. There was so much to eat and we couldnt eat it all. The calamari and scallops were perfectly cooked as were the prawns and mussels. The bread was crispy and again we couldnt eat it all. The atmosphere is gorgeous and the staff are so friendly. I would definitely recommend visiting Crab Farm Winery.
Pretty good food at a decent price compared to other places. Nice outdoor seating so its a good temperature in the summer. They also have indoor seating for if it is cold. Nice atmosphere and pretty professional staff but sometimes the service takes a while. Would definitely recommend to others and its pretty family friendly too. (Would suggest booking to get a good spot.)
Good wine, food and service. Great ambience and vibe!
Wow As soon as I walked in I thought what an awesome place to relax with a fine wine and a brilliant place for functions .Staff are wonderful and make you feel welcomed .The food cooked to perfection. I reccomend this place 100%
We went for lunch, on the way into staying in Napier for a few days. The food was fantastic. It has a rustic look, but is comfy and the food is a varied with amazing tastes, from local, fresh produce. Even the salads as part of the meals were sublime. Crumbed risotto balls may sound heavy, but paired with the salad, was amazing. We only had a glass each of the wines with dinner, which were not great, so we did not stay for the wine tasting. We were fortunate that it was quiet when we were there, so had the pick of seats.
Incredible experience, can’t recommend enough! Great place to stop on a Friday when heading into town from the north. Wine was fantastic & Friday night dinner was excellent as well, we had the seafood platter for 2 & we loved it! Lauren squeezed us in for a wine tasting at 7pm, even though the restaurant was busy. Quede also helped with the wine tasting which was much appreciated! We loved the tasting so much that we ate dinner there & bought a bottle, well worth going out of your way for & one of the most beautiful wineries around :)
We attended Crab Farm Winery for dads 80th birthday where 19 guests were in attendance. It was a busy time for them but the staff handled it so well and gave us the best service. The house wines are full of flavour and very enjoyable. The service was below average and the tables were filthy,
Absolutely amazing. Food was epic and service awsome. Great atmosphere and vibe. I had the oysters, seafood platter and bread and dips. All cooked to perfection and great presentation. We had the 2016 pino noir for the wine which was also great! Ive been here 10 or so timez now and it hasnt let me down yet.highly recommend
Crab Farm is my all time favourite restaurant and winery!! Incredible food, the atmosphere is so funky and rustic and fun. Staff are very friendly and fun. They also cater weddings and work dos. They also have cooking lessons which are a fantastic way to learn and have a great time with friends.
Would love to rate this place higher, but unfortunately I just cant. Great venue for sure. Outdoor seating is definitely pleasant on a hot Hawkes Bay summer evening, however we noticed the outdoor seating had a lot of ants crawling all over the table. We brought this to the attention of one of the staff, and he brought a cloth and table spray to attempt to mend the issue. This was good, and they seemed to disappear for a while. We ordered the bread and dip platter as an entree, which was nice and had good variety however we did find a hair in one of the dips. Main course was very nice, we did however order two steamed greens dishes. Someone had keyed in the wrong dish into the register apparently, and they brought out two incorrect salads. This added an extra 15 minute wait time for the corrected salads to emerge. One of our meals was also delayed quite a while, and we were at least halfway through our other dishes when it came out. Dessert was very nice, no complaints on that one. Overall, the setting of this place is lovely, and the food was delicious. Just a couple of points that broke the experience for us on that occasion.
Amazing service with everyone being so friendly. Gorgeous wine and the vegan version of the vegetable curry so well worth it. The place itself is so rustic and bohemian which is just stunning to see. Highly recommended!
This was my first time at Crab Farm 6/10/18 for dinner. OMG the staff were absolutely amazing! Lady Larisa the singer blew us away with her fab songs, the restaurant was full, the simplistic menu was perfect, the food was to die for and the ambience made our evening PERFECT!!! Top marks and well done to the Crab Farm owners. Your staff are priceless, hold onto them and do not let them go, they are worth their weight in gold.
Amazing spot nice indoor fire on a rainy day. Awesome staff and beautiful wine and food.Highly recommend stopping in and seeing for yourself.
