Cozy gastropub featuring an innovative New American menu & craft beers in a warm atmosphere.
My husband and I finally made it up to Lander to try the Cowfish out last month and what a treat. Our waitress Missie was fabulous! Excellent service, impressive wine presentation. Recommended the Brussel sprouts with the sirlon pasta to follow. Paired a wine to a tee! Food was delicious and was delivered quite prompt for how busy it was. Great little restaurant, I am glad we made the trip. Thanks Missie for your wonderful service. We will see you soon! Taylor and Ty
My wife and I have been a couple of times and have always been impressed. During our last visit be had the bone marrow. To say it was amazing is a complete understatement. BEST weve ever had! Weve had lobster ravioli, salads, rib eye and risotto also incredible! Great service, and everything on the menu has been outstanding. The bone marrow alone is worth the 14 hour drive from Los Angeles!
Other then the wait to be seated in either the main dining area or Pub, the food and service were excellent. We both ordered a (excellentside salad I had the Beer Cheese Burger and my wife had Fish & Chips. To top off these two excellent choices, we each ordered two Rock Chuck Rye beers which were very tasty. Overall, the food and service were excellent, when we were seated.
This restaurant has it all, great people, great service and outstanding food and drink!!! Everything we had from start to finish was EXCELLENT, We are traveling through and plan to stay another night just to go back!!
Really top end food for such a small town. Service was excellent and friendly like everyone in Wyoming seems to be. The bar side was a bit noisy and got crowded. You probably would need reservations if you get there at rush hour.
Good and drinks were fantastic! Sat at the bar and had great service and wonderful food!
For a small town, this is the place for dinner and drinks! The fish and chips is fabulous as well as wasabi stack. Steaks are tasty I haven’t ordered anything that I didn’t like!
Food is delicious but 5 flies hovering around our meals is disgusting.
Great beer, food (ahi tuna!and atmosphere! Highly recommended
Grate seves good food love the atmosphere over hopeing to come a gen
Literally two whole bites of mousse for 11bucks if you do takeout.. Ive dined in and it was bigger portion, I get inflation but that serving size was just lazy. Steaks are O.K., trout wasnt anything to ride home about. Fish tacos had too many bones to eat more than two, so the only thing worth your money is the cow tips. Theyve been good everytime.
A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint. I had the sirloin, with shrimp, veggies, and cheesy polenta and it was amazing. My wife had the Buffalo ravioli and it was fantastic.
Wonderful experience! Food was incredible! Service was great, prompt and attentive. I highly recommend the bison ravioli. Spectacular!
I’m writing this before even paying. This restaurant is a standout in the bleak food scene that is Wyoming. I live for good food and drinks (Spent 9 years galavanting in Asheville NCI will be dreaming about the Steal tip Penne for the rest of my CDT Hike. And I know when I’m just desperate, and when it’s good… and this was great.
Hanna rocks, she totally took great care of us and our large party! The food was great and the atmosphere was right on par! Thanks again!
Great food, nice staff, not as clean as I would have thought for such a pricey restaurant.
Food & service were great! I got the Ahi tuna app & the brussel sprouts which were delicious 🤤But the only complaint is I took 2 of my fish tacos home (they were bland& had them for lunch the next day and there was a red & white striped twist tie in my taco that blended in with the purple cabbage 😲 Needless to say I couldnt eat them after that 😔😕
The food here is amazing they have a great pub food menu for dinner and the burgers are delicious. Great service and we were able to walk in and get seated quickly without a reservation.
For a higher end, pricey, yuppie restaurant, I was thoroughly disappointed. Over priced meh.
adilene, our server was amazing. The food was the best Ive had in some time, the braised pork shank, stuffed mushrooms, and Red Canyon beer did not disappoint. I may need to drive to Lander from Denver just for a great meal and atmosphere.
I barely have to mention that the food is outstanding, but more importantly to me is the wonderful service. Our servers have been personable, predictive, kind, and thoughtful in their responsibilities. Whoever is involved in front of house right now should feel very very good about how they are representing this business and themselves.
Wonderful takeout experience! The salad was house salad was fresh and delicious, I loved the pickled onions and the white balsamic vinaigrette. The burger was huge and delicious. I would highly recommend Cowfish for dinner. My husband tried their Rock chuck Rye beer and gave it 2 thumbs up.
The best food and service in Southwest Wyoming. Steaks are fantastic. Bread pudding is almost as good as commanders palace in New Orleans.... worth the drive from Rock Springs!
Best place in town. They know how to prepare fine meals. Their aged ribeye is superb. The baby back ribs were extremely tender. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Best to make a reservation.
Tuna sashimi and Oaxaca chicken were great. Unfortunately they ruin the citrus lime dressing with tons of sugar. So that kinda spoiled the salad. Argh! Who really wants a candy bar on their lettuce n veggies?
Fantastic food, incredible staff, but very slow service, which might be related to Covid. Although, their menu isnt enormous, it does have a great mixture for the entire family. The only other minor complaint is they dont offer any type of military or senior citizen discount, but thats life. Nevertheless, if youre looking for a place with fantastic food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff, look no further than this place. Oh yeah, make sure you read the story about the restaurants name, you will chuckle a bit.
Great dinner. The truffle fries were so good. We had salads, pasta, salmon and everyone was so happy with their meals. The servers were attentive and friendly. We didnt have our dog but the patio is dog friendly. Worth a stop if you come through Lander! Only open for dinner right now.
Amazing food beer and service I recommend getting the Roasted Garlic Bulb and the Orecchiette Pasta, so delicious.
Cowfish can be counted on to find variety and dishes you wont see usually see in a small town. Vegetarian diners dont get much to chose from if there is anything at all that doesnt need to be altered but once you get past that hurdle quality never fails to impress.
This is a great place for dinner. A western atmosphere thats fun with the cowfish. Prices, though, are a bit pricey. Good self brewed beers. Cocktails are good, too. The sushi appetizer was delicious and good sized. A bit spicy, but not too bad. Frankly, for the prices of the entrees, I think a salad should be included, but they are an additional $3 charge. Salad was made up of a variety of greens and wad fresh, so thumbs up there. I got the bison ravioli. It was a bit bland, to be honest. Just needed something more for sure. My husband had the meatloaf, which was good, but a bit tough. My daughter got the beef tips and let me sample. The beef was tender. It was good. Granddaughter got a cesar salad which was made up of very large romaine lettuce leaves.
Worth it! Best food Ive ever tried. The waitress were very kind and caring and were always around when you needed them. The food was incredible, most amazing food ever! Recommend blackened mahi-mahi sandwich and the baby back ribs. Appetizers were so good too. The bread was a little crunchy but the vinegar and oil was amazing! At the end I highly recommend this place if your visiting. Thank you and goodbye.
Really good food. I tried the tips. Dang good. Beer was tasty as well
4.8 stars! Delicious jumbo shrimp and winter warmer beers that were positively perfect for the February weather. These were the best and biggest shrimp I have ever had, they seemed more like a half dozen chicken drumsticks. I thought there could have been more fries with the meal but otherwise super friendly service, calming atmosphere and a good time. Will visit again if back in Lander!
Consistently excellent food at the Cowfish. The Scottish salmon is last meal kind of good. Just tried the carrot cake last night and they nailed it. Best carrot cake ever. If I was Paul Hollywood I would give a solid handshake to the baker who made that.
My daughter picked this restaurant and we loved it. We started with the tuna sashimi, which was delicious. Then the filet was best I have ever had! And the trout was also amazing! We can’t wait to try it again when we visit Lander.
Busy Friday night but was able to get a party of two (walk inseated rather quickly! One of the nicest server who knew her coffee stuff! Best Steak (Spicy Coffee Rubbed Ribeyecooked to perfection. Sadly they are 1,400 miles away!!!!
Delicious food and great customer service. Driving across Wyoming, we stopped in for dinner without reservations, and the greeter seemed to go out of his way to get us a table within ten minutes. Food was delicious (Local Burger and mahi sandwichand they kindly split a green salad for two of us. They went above and beyond by mailing me an important item Id left behind.
I really enjoyed this experience. I had the beer battered shrimp and steak served at the bar. The young ladies at the bar were very kind and did a great job with service. The place is decorated very nicely. The price wasnt totally unreasonable given that this is probably only one of a few places in town at this level of quality. Overall the experience was very good. That said, my steak was slightly overcooked. I was really surprised because this caliber of resturaunt shouldnt have that issue. I took it as a one off and Im sure the next time it will be fine. I will say the battered shrimp was really tasty. All in all Id go again for sure.
Delicious food! Nice spot to visit! Good customer service!
Great service and food. After a long travel day through Yellowstone and Teton National Parks I had to stop here and see how it compares to six years ago. I was looking forward to the Bacon Wrapped Bison Tenderloin but they were out of it so I went with the Cow Crustacean and was very satisfied with the recommendation. Started with the fresh baked bread and Boursin Cheese-Stuffed Mushrooms and they didnt disappoint. Any chance I get Ill come back for sure.
Great menu and friendly staff, and the courtyard is magical. Try the fresh trout in the summertime!
The wait staff are sweet but have no idea how to properly serve. For a $40 entree, a waiter should be able to time drinks, appetizer, and entree. If they can’t, the problem should be corrected. We went here twice and had the same problem twice, waiters have no clue what they’re doing and drop the check without asking how it was or if you are finished. That’s fine for a $3 taco joint but not when you’re dropping $100 on dinner. LanderBar apparently owns half the restaurants in Lander so not sure how useful this review is but we plan on returning to Lander and I hope new restaurants will have opened by then...
I am a local and go to the cowfish occasionally. I usually have good experiences with the food and the service. It is somewhat overpriced, but the drinks are great here, and so are the appetizers. I did have a bad experience recently, however. I ordered a $9 caesar salad that came out as four peices of romaine lettuce with a thin layer of dressing and parmesan cheese on top. It was definitely not a meals-worth and way overpriced for what I got. I was pretty disappointing and expected better from the cowfish!
We booked a party of 12 online earlier in the day on 9-18-18, but had to do it online which only allows you to to book up to a party of 8. So I did it in two separate Reservations of 8 and 4 with comments on both that we needed a single reservation for 12. When we arrived we notified the hostess and she said that the received our reservations and comments. And were ready to seat us. Then a gentleman who I assume was the manager came up and told us that in the future we needed to call and leave a message on their machine for parties larger than 8. We were a bit taken aback and told him that we made the reservations online because we were not sure that they would get the message in time. Their website states that they opened at 5, our reservation was for 5:30 and we called shortly after 5 on our way to the restaurant and confirmed with the hostess that they received our online reservations and that we were all set. So, in fact we did call ahead. He called us out in front of our guests that we were treating to dinner for the efforts on our hunt. That really rubbed us the wrong way and put a damper on the evening. The food, beverages and service were all great, but the managers attitude and statement toward us were reprehensible. If he cant have a good attitude only 30 minutes after opening, I cant imagine how he handles more complicated matters on a nightly basis.
Good food, and a nice patio and courtyard, but very poor and slow service. It was too bad, as otherwise, I really liked the place.
Excellent quality food, beautiful building and relaxing outdoor space. Dont miss if in Lander!
My Favorite Place. Eating brunch today.... Smokehouse Eggs Benedict. So yummy. Husband ordered fish tacos and the fish was super crispy and mild. The eggs Benedict were perfect....the parm polenta too. Cant go wrong here.
Excellent dinner! We had baby back ribs and beer batter shrimp. Both excellent and a terrific salad that is pictured^^ yum
Sat at the bar for dinner that is free sitting, the beer was cold and brewed in house and amazing. Nate was great and personable with a laid back attitude. Had Brussel sprouts as a appetizer, they were OK. Over done in my opinion. Had rack of roasted lamb for dinner and at $32.00 it was well worth it. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable laid back atmosphere with good brews and amazing food.
This is an outstanding bar & restaurant. I ate here twice over a weekend I spent in Lander and would go out of my way to come here again.Cocktails were excellent. They stock a nice variety of gins and other spirits. They have Wyoming whiskey, popular in these parts, and the bartender knew how to add flavors to an old fashioned to make it palatable. Between Denver and Jackson, you wont find a better cocktail bar. Maybe even between Denver and Calgary. The food was also outstanding. You cant really expect to find all locally sourced ingredients in central Wyoming, but the menu at Cowfish is thoughtful, with local twists on familiar dishes. I was happy with the fish tacos, the seared dumplings and the Cobb salad.Service was also excellent. Servers were friendly but also knew what they were serving, where it came from and how it was prepared. I was with a small group that managed to ask a lot of questions, none of which phased the staff.Overall, this is an outstanding place, well worth a visit.
