Cottonwood Grille in Boise
Description
Privilege
Took our two grand-daughterss for lunch. They loved sitting on the patio and watching the malard pair feeding in the pond!
MoreI wanted to try their Chicken Caesar salad for lunch. The menu described it as a wedge salad and Im not a fan of a wedge salad so I asked if the could chop it for me and they did and it was pretty good. Pretty setting, I went at 1:30 and the lunch crowd was thinning out, great service. I will be going back to try other dishes in the future.
MoreExcellent place, the chef is from the Basque country and uses local ingredients to make local and Basque dishes. We had the croquetas, the French onion soup and the Basque chorizo and bean stew for appetizers, everything was excellent. For the entree we had the "The chicken and mushroom" and the "Sauteed Idaho Trout" and both were excellent. The portions are generous.
MoreWe stopped here for lunch on the patio. This is a beautiful restaurant inside & out.The food is reasonably priced and presented with eye appeal. In addition, it was very tasty. The service was prompt as well.
MoreHad a great experience at Cottonwood Grille. We had a large party, so our reservation was necessary. We sat in an alcove that allowed for conversation among people in the party and across tables. Wait staff were friendly and courteous and had helpful suggestions. I ordered the elk, and it was outstanding. I would recommend Cottonwood for anyone looking for a nice dinner.
MoreSuch a beautiful place and the menu is extensive, so many choices its hard to choose. Guess I will have to go back and try other choices. Waitstaff is amazing and know how to do their job well. I will definitely return, it is high on my favorite list
MoreThis is a hard review to write because I mostly rewrite good or bad. Food was great, atmosphere was like a country club, drinks were good, but the bartender I had made everyone rush and was not personable at all. Had the trout and it was amazing. Just wish this bartender would slow down and give each customer a second.
MoreWent to Cottonwood Grill for appetizers and drinks. This is a place you dont want to miss. We had a party of 5 and several appetizers. The food was over the top and the staff was absolutely wonderful.
MoreWe had a surprise birthday luncheon and the servers were very attentive, even knowing the nest of the birthday lady and the attendees. Allowed us to show up early to decorate. The event went so well, and the food and portions were great. Would definitely go here for lunch or dinner.
MoreDelicious food, friendly and professional service. Peaceful patio - large, shaded and close to the water. So glad we stopped!
MoreMost recently, the staff of Cottonwood made the celebration of my Mothers 70th Birthday extra special. Sat at the best table on the patio, enjoyed incredible food and had an absolutely wonderful waiter! Cant wait to return 😊
MoreGreat place for a nice dress up dinner...shorts and a nice shirt or nice jeans and a top. Food was great but the service was a bit lacking. All the other tables got bread without asking but we had to ask for everything. Bread, water, refills...ect
MoreWonderful food, great service. Thanks for the beautiful afternoon with my friends. Sorry I forgot our servers name. She was more concerned with our experience than her own. Thanks again.
MoreThe food was okay. I have to share, had bathroom issues for 2 days after eating here! I, as well as my party that I took for a special occasion, will not be visiting again. The staff arent as friendly as they should be for an upscale place. I will definitely stick to Chandlers for a more elegant and upscale experience and way better food!
MoreVery nice Dinner down town next to the green belt. Fresh fish & prime rib had a great dinner with my family.
MoreIt was a huge disappointment that we chose this place for our anniversary dinner. Not romantic at all.I chose a $40 elk steak that came sliced up alreay😔 I ordered it medium and it was completely well done and very dry. I think it was microwaved before it came out because it was very Hot.The service was excellent, but the chef needs to step up.
MoreDelicious and the service was spot on.
Fantastic happy hour with great deals on drinks and appetizers. I recommend the Calimari and the Croquettes. Great beer and wine selection as well.
MoreCame for lunch and was underwhelmed. The steak sandwich was just okay. The fried scallops were good but the plate itself came with only 4 of them, and 4 pieces of asparagus. Would not come here again.
MoreCottonwood Grille was once a stand-by for family get togethers where we could get consistent quality in service and food, if not a fine dining experience. This time, my husband and I waited 20 minutes for waters before asking the hostess to notify our waiter. The food all tasted similarly over-salted and both my husband and I began to feel ill before eating even half our entrees. The waiter denied that MSG was any longer used in the recipes, but we felt like we had been poisoned nonetheless.
MoreOn July 5th we visited for the first time with friends and were seated on the patio near the river walk. It was a beautiful day, warm, light breeze, and a mother Mallard with six small ducklings. My wife and I split a Cobb Salad and then a berry cobbler with French vanilla ice cream - all for less than $30. Lukenna was our server, a delightful Basque lady, who was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. It was a very relaxing day and we shall return soon.
MoreService was incredible! Our server Grace was very professional and never left us waiting. Good was okay. Very old school, very little flavor. Great place to visit for wine and appetizers.
MoreIm going to start off by commenting on the salad. Many places you go to, the dressing is this run-of-the-mill sharp tangy bite of flavoring. Not Cottonwood. I tried the Raspberry vinegrette, and at first I thought it looked like ranch dressing with some raspberry syrup? But nope, it was astounding. On the side of a yogurt base with sweet and oh so mildly sour, no detraction at all of the raspberry by any means whatsoever, that lends the crisp, sharp lettuce a softness Ive never tasted in any restaurant Ive ever been to before. You cant get that from a store, that Ive ever found. The salmon with horseradish crisp? Wonderful, in any language.Interior decor is not so bright to daunt the eyes, air conditioning was very comfortable, the wood a soft yet energizing contrast.Ive seen a few of the reviews, talking about expensive? This is great quality cuisine at a nicely affordable price.I think those saying Cottonwood to be expensive are either competitors, or McDonalds workers. That raspberry vinegrette, though. As Ozzie Man Reviews would say: Thats the stuff of Legends.
MoreHad our anniversary brunch on the patio with a view of the Boise river and green belt. Great food, reasonable prices and friendly service Couldnt have asked for more.Brunch followed by a stroll along the green belt.
MoreI went for lunch and got the the Grilled Salmon Melt with sweet potato fries and french onion soup. Sweet potato fries and french onion soup were excellent; Ive gotten the french onion soup here since I was a kid its always great. The Salmon Melt is usually good and a lot of my family members always order it. However today it was really bland and dry; nothing like what we had in the past. The three of us who ordered it all thought the same thing. Hopefully it was just an off day, but something to keep in mind.Others in our group got the fish a chips, steak salad, stroganoff, and club sandwich which they all loved. So you may be rolling the dice with the grilled salmon melt, but everything else was solid, as was the service!
MoreReally great! The others got some Clams and French Fries and I got Lemon Roasted Chicken!! Great service as well!!!! The only downside is that my chicken was a bit salty and the green beans (my sidewas kinda hard to chew. Overall was $90!
MoreMediocre food, fast service. A safe choice for placid palates. The view is nice and the staff is doing well despite the food and size of the place. The crab cakes are unattractive pucks that likely came out of a freezer. The salad seemed to come out of a bag and had large rings of onion draped across it. The cod was the thinnest portion of the fish and over seasoned. The rice was perfectly done yet uninteresting. The pulled pork sandwich looked dry and the person I was with who had it said it was difficult to finish.
MoreWonderful experience as usual. Waitress kept our water glass filled even after we paid our bill. Many restaurants stop filling your water glass after you finish eating.
MoreConsistently good service and food. The only place in Boise that knows how to cook Halibut. Every other upscale restaurant downtown overcooks it and dry and tasteless.Afternoon salads are great.Nice atmosphere and views.
MoreBeautiful location, inside and outside. In addition to the regular high end menu items they offer a Game section including Elk and Muscovy duck, these were our selections. The Peppercorn sauce on the elk is delicious, reminded be of a bernaise, it doesnt hide the elk but really heightened the flavor. You have to experience it. The lingonberry Cabernet sauce on the duck was very delicate and mild maybe too mild for me. The duck was perfect. Our wait staff was very good. Our waiter was excellent. He was knowledgeable about all of the offerings, provided informed recommendations, and always seemed to anticipate our needs. We sat outside on the patio. It was a beautiful evening watching people stroll by on the river walk, as we enjoyed excellent service and very good food and drink. Highly recommend!
MoreExcellent main dish (beef stroganoff), however the house salad was a bit wilted. Our dessert was not as described on the menu...perhaps supply chain issue not able to get the cookie on the ice cream? Charming environment right on greenbelt near the river. Most of the staff was great as expected, however one of our waiters was not into working that night - seemed preoccupied and snappy. We became hesitant to ask for anything for fear of the reaction.
MoreBeautiful setting. The food was very good and prices not bad.We were seated right next to a very chatty table even though there was space throughout the restaurant. No server came so we moved. Eventually we were served, but his plate was served at another table accidentally, my side salad was forgotten and then when brought, dressing was forgotten. So today, it seemed like a staff/service problem that they will resolve soon. Our entrees were excellent.
MoreCottonwood Grille is one of the iconic dining destinations in Boise. Great location next to the Boise River. If the weather permits the outdoor patio is a must, but even in the colder months the ambiance is top tier with a 12 wide hearths fire warming the entire dining area. The food is also consistently good. This place wont blow your mind but you will rarely be disappointed.
MoreThis is my first time going to this restaurant and I am seriously impressed! The lemon zest chicken was the best chicken I have eaten, the sides complimented the chicken well!! The service was on point!! I recommend this place! Reservations were made. I am looking forward to summer so I can sit outside on the deck over looking the greenbelt and river.
MoreWe came here to enjoy the patio and have a glass of wine and ‘apps’ at happy hour. We had heard they have a nice selection for the happy hour. Indeed the selection was very nice and the setting on the green belt was very peaceful. What really impressed us was the beautiful and very tasteful decor on the inside of the restaurant. This would be a great place for ‘date nights’ or those special occasions.
MoreThe atmosphere was nice, and the decor was very nice. However, I think it would be better if there was a bit more privacy. Most of the seating is in one giant room. The food was okay. I ordered the Buffalo and my wife ordered the Halibut. Mine was supposed to be medium rare but was pretty rare and the sauce to me tasted just like home made gravy. My wifes was nice and light which suits her tastes. The waitress was nice and friendly with no complaints there. Though for the price of the food, I would expect a bit more for it to not be as plain.
MoreA treat for all the senses rewarded with oh so good food ~ visiting from out of town; and, we went for the elk on the menu, which was probably the best weve had. Everything was just superb, but, the Stars of the evening were the huge fire and, the before dinner cocktails: again, my whiskey sour was the best ever. Cant wait to go back!!
MoreAbsolutely overpriced, terribly overrated. The hostesses forgot to seat us a half hour after our reservation time. The waiter couldnt open the wine and it was a screw-top bottle! I almost suggested having my wife help her. They leave the tails on the shrimp in a white sauce three-cheese ravioli. This is ridiculous. The "toast points" of their toasted brie appetizer are thick chunks of sour dough bread. Ummm, you kidding me?!?!Im so disappointed in what this restaurant has sunk to. I would consider this nothing more than a Red Robin with table cloths, however Red Robin is far better for and superior service. Red Robin also can open a wine bottle!Highly suggest passing on this place.
MoreIve eaten here once before and had an enjoyable experience both times. This time we went for a wedding reception. Unfortunately, there was a big fiasco in that the reservation was canceled the morning of the wedding and no one knew until we got there. The wedding party confirmed the reservation multiple times but for some reason it was still canceled. BUT the manager on duty was great and the staff were able to accommodate us because they still had the banquet room available. We just had to wait for them to set up. It made for an interesting experience for all. The food and drinks were delicious and everyone had a good time despite the mishap. Kudos to the staff that were available and served us!
MoreGreat place to have brunch on a Sunday bicycle ride along the Boise River Trail.
The patio and service is superb! The escargot was delish, the elk was equally as good. Unfortunately the carbonara was a complete flop, completely void of seasoning or flavor. The patio would bring me back .. Id never order the pasta again.
MoreIve heard good things, but we had a terrible experience there for our anniversary. It took 20 min after our reservation time to be seated. Another 15 minutes before we were acknowledged by our waiter (and only after I called him over). We got our food an hour and a half after our reservation time. When my husbands steak came out (he had ordered it medium wellit was literally RAW. We had to take it home to cook it.
MoreThe server and host were very nice and very friendly. The appetizer was the best part. However, the bread had a weird softness that I have never experienced before so I’m not sure if it had bad ingredients to make it that way. The drink was good. Overall, I thought it was overpriced for the quality of food and presentation. And the pasta had so much oil in it I didn’t even want to eat it. The scallops were good but way overpriced. And again a lot of oil. I wouldn’t come back here.
MoreWe were very happy with our dining experience here. They are one of the few fine dining restaurants that serve GAME. Great staff, and indoor and outdoor seating. Wife had Ceasar Salad, Halibut Onati with a Lemon butter cream sauce. Added a Lobsters Tail. I had the North Atlantic Sea Scallops served on a bed of spinach with capellini in a creamy saffron sauce. We finished with a shared Blueberry Cobbler and Vanilla Bean Ice cream and a Cappuccino.
MoreCottonwood Grille ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Cottonwood Grille is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. The food and service is always excellent, and they have one of the best patios in the entire Treasure Valley. MW and I visited on 4/15/21.I ordered Beef Stroganov ($23- Tender morsels of beef slow cooked with onions and Cremini mushrooms in a rich sour cream sauce, served over fettuccine. This is a dish that is not always on the menu. I ordered it once years before and it was served with Elk instead of beef. Both times, it was the best beef stroganoff I have ever had. It’s a generous portion that made two meals for me. Everything about this dish was perfection. There were generous portions of tender, well-seasoned meat. The noodles were perfectly cooked. There was just the right amount of sour cream.MW ordered North Atlantic Sea Scallops ($31- Fresh sea scallops, panseared golden, served on braised spinach with cappellini pasta in a creamy Saffron sauce. This was a little bland until MW asked for more Saffron sauce, which made all the difference. Both entrées came with soup or salad. Soup options that day were Tomato Basil, French Onion or Red Bean Chorizo. The owner/chef is Basque so the latter is always on the menu. The salad options were Mixed Green or Wedge Caesar. We both chose the Mixed Green with house-made Blue Cheese dressing, which came with blue cheese crumbles in it. The salads were outstanding! The bread that was served with dinner was Basque bread that was made in the house. It was delicious. The Cottonwood Grille is one of the only restaurants in town that has a pastry chef. They had six desserts on the menu with three additional ones that were specials. By that time of the evening, we were both so focused on our conversation that I neglected to take photos until we had already partially demolished our desserts. I ordered the Mixed Berry Cobbler ($7). MW ordered the Crème Brûlée ($7.Both were among the best versions of those desserts that we’ve ever had.I forgot to take a picture of the dessert menu, but the rest of the menus are posted. The Cottonwood Grille has a menu that changes seasonally but there are some dishes that are so loved that they are always on the menu, including one of my all-time favorites and the first entree I ever ordered here, the Chicken Gorgonzola Tortellini. The Cottonwood Grille also has one of the nicest wine by the glass menus in the area.Highly Recommended!!!
MoreBrought my parents here for their 50th Anniversary. The food was amazing, Sea bass, Steak. Chicken all of it. Loved the French onion soup and the creme brule..The appetizers were good, but the crackers seemed pretty generic. It could have used more meat and cheeses. Besides that it was great. Loved the atmosphere.
MoreTo be fair, we only ordered dessert. The staff was attentive and friendly. The bread pudding was ok. It seemed a little dry on top. The bottom was delicious and moist. The berry cobbler was good but more cobbler crust was desired.
MoreThe restaurant is beautiful and romantic. I love the huge stone fire place! We were there Valentines weekend and saw a proposal. As for the food, I wasnt impressed. This was our first time there and I did not enjoy my meal. I had the halibut and it was very greasy and I couldnt even finish it. My husband tasted it and said it was awful too. He, on the other hand, had the lamb shank and loved it. Id be willing to try the restaurant again but I would definitely order something different.
MoreGreat food and atmosphere! The Steamers (appetizeris enough for a meal and well worth ordering. Had lemon salmon ravioli (delish!and brownie with ice cream for dessert and walked away a happy camper!
MoreGreat place for date night or nice dinner with family/friends. Food is very tasty. Went tonight for the first time in a very long time for a rare night out with my husband. We had oysters Rockefeller for starters and they were delicious! Great French onion soup and Caesar salad. For our entrees he had the buffalo and I had the lamb shank, I was so stuffed from all the good food and bread, I had to take my lamb home. The meat for both entrees was cooked perfectly and the sauces were nice and rich. Will definitely make it a point to get down here more often.
