Costa Rica Beer Factory - Bar & grill in Cartago, Costa Rica
A very good local Brewery with a funky museum of beer bottles from around the world. Phone the beer is pretty good and the mixed drinks are absolutely delicious.
Amazing food!!!! Cocktail could improve, dont recommend asking for the Moscow mule its terrible
Good craft beer on tap and the food is good too (if a bit pricey but still worth it). We live in Costa Rica and really like this place. However, if we could make one suggestion, it would be to be very clear about what you order. Due to some sort of confusion that could have been easily avoided with better communication about what we were ordering and prices, we got the more costly and fancy milkshake instead of the one we were sure we had ordered. It was good but thats not the point. It was not what we had ordered and we felt like it was upsold without being clear about what we had actually ordered. Unfortunately, this sort of thing of not being clear about pricing, especially when adding on to orders happens with some frequency in Costa Rica (I have lived here for many years and have frequented many restaurants on my own and with tourist groups). If visiting the Beer Factory (and any other place for that matter), make sure to be very clear about what you order and to know the price beforehand. I know, sounds like common sense but trust me, be careful about that or you will definitely end up feeling like you were taken advantage of at any number of places.
The Costa Rica Beer Factory is a must go for us everytime we‘re in San José.The food is good quality bar food and the beer is amazing. What makes the place so loveable for us it the warm and welcoming feeling you get when you enter the restaurant. The stagf is super mindful and friendly. We love their energy. The staff is so amazing a lot of restaurant in Costa Rica can only wonder at!
We were very excited about the craft beer, we ordered the Lager from the tap, the beer was dead no carbonisation at all, we asked if its the right way and they were telling us thats how it should be... As we didnt drink the beer at all, they didnt charged it, what was nice. As food we had the Pretzel Bites which are just small rolls with a cheese sauce... All in all it was not a very good experience ... Place sounds overrated to me
Very trendy place - wenn der very good choice of international and local brewed beer. The food was also very delicious!
Very nice bar with local beer brewery that won local beer prizes. We had the lager, the Irish ale and beer made from cocos which were all quite impressive. The price is (as is reasonable for local breweryon the higher side of the spectrum. Service was mega friendly and food (which we did not have apart from pretzel breadlooked very good too! Would definitely visit again and i believe this beer will make reputation in the future.
Really nice restaurant with excellent service! Although a bit on the pricier side for Costa Rica.
Good beer. Food is good. Music is a bit loud but overall a nice place to have a meal and some brews.
My server, Natalia, did a great job of explaining the beers on tap. The beer sampler is value priced and allows you to make the best decision. Fantastic service. Wish they had more souvenirs available like coasters or beer koozies. Music in the background was tasteful. Extremely happy.
Great place to take in some few different types of beers. The food , staff was really good.
Highly recommend this place - amazing service and great food! Their Keto food is amazing too! Will definitely be back!
I like this place for afternoon beers and food. The food is good but do not order the chicken wings are not their speciality, the attention is outstanding and the staff is friendly Their crafted beers are worth trying them all!I personally like the Tortuguero and the Escalante.Cheers!
Exceptional, exceptional customer service. America is wonderful and really knows her role. The food is delicious and the beer options are outstanding. AND…they have great range of Keto dishes and drinks!!!
The most delicious food and a really fun time.
The Tropical Ceviche is to die for! Absolutely a sensational treat for the taste buds. Makes a great pairing with their Tortuguero. Aromatic and citrious flavor IPA in house craft beer!
This a very nice place, they brew their own beer and they are quite tasty, also food in here is great and lots of variety, the place also is beautiful lots of room, the catch is that this place is pricey but you get great quality though.
Excellent spot to try the fruited beer, coffee stout with Costa Rican coffee, and a nice DDH ipa. The ipa was surprisingly smooth and not as bitter as I’m used to, prices were amazing, $20 for 2 flights + 2 pints
Nice craft beer. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. We tried the home brewed fruit lager and sweet stout. Both were great.
Best location in whole San José as also the best service in whole Costa Rica! Take your time and try all of their hand crafted beers which are super tasty and diverse. Also the food is great so that I can only recommend to anyone who travels San José to take a stop here, really a must!
The owners clearly invested a lot of money into this place. The attention to detail is really admirable. There are a lot of cool details and they really created a very cool space. I thought the staff were swell too. But, man, the beer. I think maybe someone hasn’t been paying attention to quality control or something, because I tried a pint of the lager and a tasting flight and that was one of the most brutal tasting experiences I’ve ever had. Aside from being out of the IPA, their beer was all noticeably flat, and much of it was oddly warm. That aside, I think they really need to get back to basics and focus on their beer. My impression is they’re more interested in creating a slick spot that can profit off of the craft beer craze than in actually creating great beer. I was really excited to try this place and sadly I was pretty disappointed. I think they have the potential to be a great spot and I hope one day they are.
We had a great time at this place. Came on a Tuesday night while in San Jose because the reviews looked good and the pictures looked cool. We weren’t disappointed. We didn’t eat here but had some beers and they were delicious. The staff was very friendly. The place is huge with indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend
The best craft beer in San Jose! Excellent, attentive staff even when short staffed. Have to try the bacon cheese sticks. Avacodo / Pork Belly pizza... say no more 👍. Great vibe and atmosphere! Muchas Gracias!
Pricey spot that should have better beer considering. But in a reallyGreat neighborhood. They have WiFi and the password is “beertime” if you need it. Atmosphere is OK but there’s better ones nearby. Thanks for having us guys, still 4 stars considering.
This place was great. The decor was so cool and we loved the general vibe. We stopped here for drinks and apps on the way to another restaurant but we could have easily stayed here. The menu and drink option were extensive and everything was delicious. The pina colada was more like a milkshake and i could not have been happier.
Amazing menu variety for both drinks and food. And keto options! Lots of them. I got the fresada to drink - almond milk with chia seeds and fresh strawberries. Also got some cheese stuffed sautéed mushrooms and the patacones. They have beer from Costa Rica, as well as across the americas (north, south, and central), and European also. Great spot to sit on the patio and car (and peoplewatch. Great vibe.
I loved this place! The inside was gorgeous. The outside is lovely. The food is incredible, and they have a massive beer selection!
Sad, but true. Waiters took the orders wrong twice as there’s no structured management. After 45 minutes of waiting for my (very basicfood, I got again disappointed as the meat was dry, the taste plain and the price incredibly high for what you get.I don’t say that often, but try to avoid that place for your own sake of happiness.
They only have a set number of sampler glasses so the table had to take turns getting samplers. Cool vibe, will probably go back.
It had a nice setting. The restaurant tries to bring in modern concepts to cuisine and dining with a vibe of a pub. Food was OK, dont enjoy so much the food in a piece of rock.
Nice food, interesting beer selection, they had just 2 options for their in house brewed beers. The desserts were the highest point in our visit, both the Sreawberry Cheese Cake with beer sauce and the Merengon were a delightful surprise.
Good beers (lots of options), very good nachos vegetarianos and awesome homemade salsas (spicy- you can buy the bottles. In a neighborhood with active nightlife. Recommended!
The beer selection is amazing, the staff is highly trained and knowledgeable about their product. The place is nicely decorated, an experience on its own. Am not so impressed with the food, but the other aspects easily overcome the just OK sampler plate... must visit this place is you are around.
Nice place, Instagram worthy decoration and friendly staff. Good to get you fix of craft beers, but a bit pricey
Great placeGreat serviceGreat vibesGreat beerFood can be much more better (burger too garlicky, bun too dry, crème brûlée missing textures and flavours)
Amazing service (super kind and attentive, even ordered a taxi for us!Interesting decor of the place and pleasant to spend time. The food is not amazing, but ok quality and they have interesting beer. A bit overpriced.
Really good beer and food. The place is not cheap compared to Costa Rica prices. But a burger and a beer go for a $18 combo in general. I had the Ollon which was a home made bread caserole stuffed with chicken and bacon. Super good and beer were on point. The IPA and irish red ale were the best.
very eclectic atmosphere, great selection of craft or bottled beers. we had the pretzel nuggets and both types of ceviche, one made in a beer sauce the other in a tropical fruit mixture, both were very tasty. the neighborhood this restaurant is located is very hip and trendy with many different restaurants and bars to chose from.
We had a great time trying out some of the local brews and finger food. Our waiter, Eduardo, was probably one of the nicest waiters we have had the pleasure of being served by. Very highly recommended!
Beer was good, food not so much. Service is pretty slow too.
Cool place, highly recommend. Great beer, food and service...do it!
Very cozy place with friendly staff and the beer tour was interesting! Highly recommend Dota Fruit Beer, it was soooo good (im not a beer person). The food was great too! Just a short delay on my friends food but on overall it was a wonderful experience for us.
Lovely spacious venue! Fondue wasnt the top but I like staying there anyway. Staff seems like not speaking english
This is such a cool building - a great place to hang out. The extensive craft beer menu set my expectations high. But when theyre out of most of the selections that interested me the most, thats kind of a letdown. The server didnt seemed to know his stuff beer-wise (he didnt realize that half pints were on the menu, tried to get me to order fruit beers after the IPAs I wanted were out). On the other hand, the food was solid: bacon-wrapped, chorizo-stuffed dates for the wife and me, chicken fingers and fries for the little person. So go for the food and the atmosphere ... and hope they sort their beer problems out before your visit.
This place has the potential for being an awesome bar, great menu with lots of options, a selection of beers beyond your imagination, trendy decoration and good location, however the staff seems to be very uninterested in improving your experience. When I went to the place, what we ordered often came different than it was supposed to be or incomplete. What came though, was still delicious.
Potential to be an awesome bar, great outdoor area, obviously trying to appeal to English clientele with mostly tourist visitors but staff are fairly neglectful and uninterested. Good range of bottle beers, games and food but no draft beers and they kinda miss the point when it comes to good craft beer. Friendlier staff would make a huge difference.
Costa Rica s main craft brewery. CRBF is exquisitely decorated both on the inside and outside with beer caps and bottles. Its a cool-looking place!! The beer itself is not that impressive. Their Escalante red ale and Malacrianza Scottish ale is probably the best of the lot. CRBF is located in a lovely part of Costa Rica called Escalante where a lot of the houses have been converted into gastro pubs and restaurants. You are spoilt for choice in this part of the town!
Excellent place to have a wonderful time with friends! Really nice staff and the artesanal beer that taste like apples is really good if you are not a fan of beer! Try the drink(no remember the namethat has coconut cream and Ron its like taste heaven!
Went here for drinks and food. Loved the drinks here especially the tequila sunrise and green jungle. Highly recommend that. The food was okay, we had the burgers, since we dont eat red meat, they had fewer chicken options. Overall, the service and ambience is good.
Costa Rica Beer Factory is my favorite restaurant in Costa Rica, home if the Escalante Beer, a homebrew beer that is famous in San José. Is a delicious beer and you cannot go here and not try it. They have been making new beer lately that are really good too but you should try the original.Lets talk about food. The Hamburgers are amazing, and I recommend the Escalante and the Umami, those are my favorite. Also try the Panzada (as seen in the pictureas an entry and (if they have, because most of the time they dontthe Budweiser dessert. (as seen in the picture)
