Coonawarra Cabins - in Penola, Australia
Quite spectacular location and lifestyle. Tents good, can get cold. If the fireplaces were lower they would’ve been warmer. Also a dog ate some of our food in the night. Me hungry now.
Absolutely wonderful location with super friendly staff. Amenities are spotless and there is a great camp kitchen. We stayed at the unpowered site at the rear of the property and it was great. Quiet location with plenty of space for all. Fantastic 3km bush walk where we spotted a few wallabies. Plus try the great wine available. Lovely drop. Well be back.
We had a great getaway staying in one of the hex bubbles. Campfire and a bbq, fantastic night!
Good place and location. Close to Narractota, wine region and Mount Gambier. I been two times.
We love this place, totally laid back camp. Lovely staff, immaculate bathrooms and great camp kitchen. Big comfy beds and a nice fire over looking the vines. Wake up to the kookaburra morning chorus and a visit from victor the camp pooch 👍
Absolutely fantastic. Very friendly staff. Extremely comfortable accommodation. Beautiful views
Beautiful caravan park with super clean amenities & awesome fire barrels. Great 3km circuit bushwalk, saw wallabies & emus en route. Really helpful & good value taxi service to/from vineyards, thanks very much Tina!
Stayed here for 1 night in the hex bubble! Awesome experience to see the sky at dusk and dawn. Staff were super friendly and the animals are so cute. The bush walk trail was also great to pass time. Although the hex bubble is air conditioned, I’d recommend coming in the cooler months as it does get quite hot and stuffy.
Stayed in the hex bubble for something different which was pretty cool but definitely wouldn’t recommend it when it’s warmer as the bubble gets very hot very quickly! The cooler doesn’t do much in the bubble and the beds weren’t overly comfortable. The facilities are well maintained and cleaned. The land itself is also nice! Overall I would go back but would try the glamping tents or something else as the bubble wasn’t as good as I expected.
It really is a very cool place, the staff treated us very well, the bathrooms are always clean, they have everything in the kitchen including an Airfryer and two fridges.I stayed in a transparent dome, I recommend not going in summer or on very hot days because during the day it is very hot inside because it is made of plastic, even if the air conditioning is on and the fan is not enough. At night its cool to see stars if you have a telescope take it and dont forget your glasses like me. From the dome it is not very good to see because it is very dirty, which is a suggestion for the staff to clean them outside to enjoy more the experience of seeing the stars from there.
Its a great park.We were initially wanting to come her for a true vineyard type camping experience, and while there are vines on site, there is no cellar door etc.Staff were super nice and accommodating.Facilities were clean. There is a nice lake in the centre and a walking track which is good to have on site.We stayed in our caravan, however, there looked like they had plenty of accommodation options.Animal friendly. Not too far from narracote caves and many, many other vineyards in the Coonawarra. Thanks team.
Cheap and clean bush accommodation.Super clean toilets and shower room.Free bikes, bush trail.Only kitchen need to improve a little bit.
Fantastic place, perfect getaway for peace and serenity. Kitchen facilities pro udes which is awesome. Stayed a night in the Hex bubble, enjoyed the night. The place and the experience was amazing. Went for cycling nxt morning which was another grt experience as cycles were available for free. If you are a travel enthusiast and a photographer, u must visit the place! Trust me, ul love it like I did.🤟
Pretty nice except the dam was empty so no Marron! A great Bushwalk behind the park. Tents were huge as were the king size bed. Fire pits are a bonus .
We stayed in one of the igloos / Hex domes and was a unique experience. I think just one night is all you need. They heat up a lot so try and pick a colder month. The sunsets and sun rise is amazing from the dome. You can pay $55 extra for breakfast, firewood and a bottle of wine. The cab sauv is great. The hosts are great and very friendly, they even gave us a free wine tasting
Many thanks to Marianne, Peter, Heather and John for accommodating our family this very busy Easter weekend. Family friendly, safe, clean amenities; easy access to Stawell and adventures in the Grampians!
Spent last Friday 19 Mar here & found it an awesome little spot, nestled up next to a lovely vineyard. Amenities very modern & clean. The best equipped camp kitchen this side of Cape York lolOwner Steve is a top fella. Even went to the trouble of putting up a projector screen outside for the footy (AFL& his wraps with his own smoked brisket were the best 👍All of the terrific staff were very helpful & even took time out to come back after work for what was a great night all round.. Enjoyed the relaxed surroundings so much that I’m calling in again tomorrow 25 Mar for couple more days. Cheers 🍻 😁👍
We loved it!! Everyone is so friendly and they go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. We stayed in one of the standard glamping site with an infant and a child. The bed was comfy. We had everything we need in our room. Its our first glamping experience and we will definitely return. The tent is clean and toilet is clean too. We were there when the temperature was 40 and they offer to turn on the fan, kept it running the whole day to keep our room cool. No Wifi in our tent but its good for us and the kids to not use technology for a few days. We ordered the deluxe package - breakfast was reasonable serve (enough for us 4), wine was good and due to fire ban, we cant set up fire so they gave us refund in cash. Very honest. There is no negative about this place. We had such a good time. Thank you.PS: Thank you Steve for taking my boy in the army car.
We arrived to the hex bubbles with mixed expectations given the temperature of 35.Over our stay within our room we encountered;- strip lighting that didnt work due to a melted remote- no refilled drinking water container- power sockets dangerously close to the mentioned water (which was later provided on asking- our hex then deflated within an hour of arrival, while this was rectified, it had begun to deflate again by morning. While these issues did not seem to occur at other hexs it made our stay frustrating, particularly given we were provided with hex 4 after booking hex 3Overall this was a cool concept that falls well short due to poor execution. Fundamentally also just not being up to standard for the price point. The toilets were Incredibly unhygienic and we chose not to use these and close the door, our hex was also on a slight hill which made the bed even more uncomfortable than it was. The tents were generally just not presented well or well kept. We would not stay again and fundamentally this should not be priced competitively with glamping. Worth $100/night in truth at best.
Lovely experience sleeping in a bubble tent. Well equipped with all necessities; en suite, water dispenser, heater, AC, fire pit, fire wood and outdoor seating. My family loved it.
The web sites is the best part of the park, to which I would say needs amendments as some things are clearly non existent. As we walk around there is rubbish and junk all over, stale smoke smell fills the corridor to the shower/ toilets, from long time smoking in and around that area, the hydroponic garden is by no means a garden or even maintained, the "king size bed" was two singles pushed together that were different thicknesses of mattresses, creating a nice inch and a half high Ridge and where hard as a rock, the floor to our glamping tent got so damp after turning on the(supplied)heater it was like something had been spilt, but for some reason was also slightly sticky. Extension cords run along the ground to power the tents and bubbles which really are a nice trip hazard and its probably lucky no bodys been electrocuted due to rain or frost. And should probably be in conduit ran under ground from the power supply straight to the tents.Just because it shines like a Diamond doesnt mean it is a Diamond, as having Glamping style tents doesnt make it glamping. Lessons learnt read reviews before you book. And to top it of there are signs asking you to take your rubbish into the closest town and use the council bin unless you Really have to use the bin provided i could understand if this was free camping in a National Park, but its not. If you decide to ever go there the best thing you could do is pull up on the side of the road out the front and sleep in your car.
The marketing and website are the best bit about the park.Realistically, it’s a field, with an empty dam and “glamping” tents on top of each other. The bubble tents leave 0 privacy. The Deluxe upgrade doesn’t exist - many amenities have been removed and the website has not been updated to reflect this.Mould growing on “glamping” tents, sheets filthy.Would not recommend under any circumstance.
Not very good initial experience. I called three days ago and Andrew answered. He said he would call me back in 15 minutes but he didnt so I texted to remind him and still no reply. My husband called today again and Andrew answered again. The same thing happened but unfortunately no one returned the call until now.Hi guys honestly you can tell the customers if you are fully booked or whatever reason so it wont waste anyones time. Thank you for your understanding! Good luck with your business.
What can I say, the manager Andrew is a top bloke! Despite the bad weather in our short visit, we were able to enjoy it because Andrew went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The hex tent is spacious and the camp site is vast. Wi-fi is not so good but youre not going there to surf the web so its not really an issue. The nights are gorgeous and sleeping is even better: the king size bed is so comfortable! Ill definitely come back some other time!
Very friendly, cosy , clean. The manager Andrew went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and hassle free. We will definitely come back as soon as possible.
Was a horrible place to stay, we booked the large tents but were given the wrong tent with no refund very hot and no cooling. The tent had old tissues inside if it and was not a pleasant visit altogether would not recommend at all.
Gorgeous place to stay and the eco tents where very well set up. Lovely bathrooms and the camp kitchen had everything you could need. Dog friendly as well. The walking trail is stunning!
We stayed in the bubble tent at Coonawarra. Our experience was so disappointing and a waste of our money and time to get there. The tent we stayed in was not the tent advertised on their site. We arrived quite late and paid the extra for the late check in. When we got to the bubble tent the first thing I noticed was the door had been left open. So we walked in to a room absoloutely full of bugs. We had to ask for a can of bug spray to kill them all. There was no complimentary wine or chocolate, when we asked the guy assumed that we werent in the bubble tent even though he had just shown us to the bubble tent. The privacy curtains around the bed didnt close they gave us a couple of clothes pegs to close them, didnt give us enough so we had to ask for another one and were told we had to get it off of their clothes line ourselves. We had to put up the door to the toilet ourselves. There was a half empty glass of water sitting on the water filter yet we had been told that no one had stayed in the tent before us. The tent was so dirty we could barely see out of it yet when we said this to him he said "its not dirty its brand new". The door on the front hadnt been put on properly and fell off during the night. The lights to the tent didnt work. On the website it says that the tent is climate controlled, it is not. When we told them in casual conversation it was hot in the tent we were told "yeah people should only go in there between 6:30 and 7pm" we should be able to go in their comfortably at all times if its climate controlled. Also says on the site that it was a king sized bed it was not. They did not care about any of our complaints they only cared about sitting back and drinking. Anyway waste of $400 will not recommend to anyone.
Really enjoyed our stay here, owners/staff were very friendly and helpful. My wife recently lost the ability to walk and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to make her stay easier. We stayed in one of the en suite cabins, and it was very good, nice and clean and very roomy. It’s location is super and very quiet and relaxing. Overall a great place to stay and would recommended staying here if you’re ever travelling past Coonawarra
Friendly helpful staff, fully serviced cabins, great open camping areas with fire pits, powered bell tents and caravan sites with all amenities, fully equipped camp kitchen, wine tasting tours, free wifi and theyre pet friendly! Highly recommended...
Fabulous place. Super fun camping out in a Bell Tent. Comfy beds, electric lights and blankets 😊Had the campfire lit for us and sat down to a starry sky, Red Cacao chocolate and Coonawara wine 🍷Thanks for a great stay Steve (Managerand for caring for the wildlife. Pictured here is a rescued baby wombat.🌳
Excellent bathroom and laundry facilities. Large shared kitchen area with local wines available. We camped overnight and the sandy soil made pitching the tents easy. Its located beside a vineyard and theres a nice bush walk out the back. The manager, Steve, is friendly and helpful, even showing us the herb garden which made for a tastier dinner.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were incredibly warm in our bell tent, despite it being the middle of winter. A great location with clean and well stocked amenities. Highly recommend purchasing the deluxe pack for an added bit of luxury.
Very relaxed with spa ious caravan parks and good shower facilities. At only $25 per night price cannot be beatenWake to magpie song, not traffic noise.Perfect place from which to explore the beautiful Coonawarra. We stayed longer than intended because it was so peaceful.
The booking process was extremely simple. I had sent an sms message to ask a question and it was answered immediately. The park is roomy, well cared for, the amenities are clean and well stocked. It was very quiet at night and you could see the millions of stars in the sky. The park supplies a fire pit for each site which we used and enjoyed. Overall i would highly recommend this park, there seems to have been a lot of work done and more in progress to maintain their standard they have set for themselves.
A very beautiful park close to the vineyards. Nice camping kitchen and very new and clean amenities. Highly recommended. We stayed on 12th.May,2019 at their Powered-sites.
We were staying 3 nights in the ‘cabin room’. The staff is friendly and they have a nice greenhouse where they grow vegetables you can freely pick and eat or use for cooking. Lack of cleanliness and poor equipment/facilities are the big issue of this place. The kitchen is the worst. Filthy fridge with dead cockroaches and other various insects, dirty shabby bbqs, not enough plates, cutleries, rough, dirty floor (rough = hard to mopetc. Our room had a dusty lamp I cleaned first thing, shabby free standing plastic drawers, old net in the window with holes did not prevent smaller insects entering, one double bed and one single bed. Nothing else would fit in. Sheets were reasonably clean and so were towels. Combined showers and toilets in bathrooms with filthy mops used to dry the floor (doesn’t work muchand lack of ventilation (no windows or vents). The main ‘building’ needs maintanance and solid everyday cleaning. Maybe the self contained cabins are decent. They looked very nice from outside. Can’t meaningfully comment on the tents. Given the price and pictures/descriptions we expected basic accommodation and facilities but clean and in better condition. Overall, a 2 star experience.
We had a wonderful time at Coonawarra Bush Holiday Park. Stayed in the glamping tents for 4 nights. Tents are comfortable, toilets and amenities have been kept very clean and very close to the tents. Andrew was very friendly and accommodating and was kind to fix our gazebo that got toppled over by the wind while we were away. We visited Robe, Beachport and Millicent while staying at the park. Would love to come back!
Liked their settings and arrangements for guests. Though its not a real boutique hotel (as the owner told in airbnb), still has very thoughtful interior decoration. Recommended for camping or quick getaway with family. You can stay in their ready tent which is quite nice to be near the vineyard and winery. Overall satisfied with their service👍
What a beautiful spot - we stayed in a glamping tent and it was lovely. The staff are all so friendly and helpful and the whole park is really well maintained. The bathrooms are the cleanest I’ve ever seen in a campground! Don’t miss the bush walks leading from the camp, or the wine tasting. Also highly recommended is the winery shuttle that leaves and drops off from the park - we had a beautiful day wine tasting just 10 minutes away on the wine walking trail. Thanks so much!
Great Place, Great PeopleIf you are looking for a park that has easy going, friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, then you’ve come to the right place. If you are looking for a park that has heaps of space, clean and tidy, pet friendly, great facilities then you’ve definitely come to the right place. BYO caravan/tent, or hire the glamping tents (which looked great), or even a self contained cabin. We loved everything about the place. When we arrived, were met in the driveway with a friendly and welcoming smile (thanks Andrew). We chose our powered caravan site and while setting up, Andrew delivered the firepit and wood and then even came back later to start it for us. We were there to visit various wineries, which we did, but truly enjoyed the simplicity of the park, the great nature walks at the property (saw a lot of wallabies on our walk), walks through the vineyards right next door, facilities and hospitality. We had a 3 night stay in May 2018, but could have stayed much longer. Thanks Andrew for your outstanding service, and making us feel very welcomed, thanks Steve for your hospitality and putting on a great park.
We had our third stay here in September 2018 and it was perfect. Lots of work has been done and the new amenities block was a bonus. Great place to get away for a few nights. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed our stay in the glamping bell tent! The tent was beautiful, the beds comfortable (and warm thanks to the electric blanket and heater!), and the wine superb. The camp kitchen was very well equipped, the bathrooms (and the whole place actuallywere spotless. The staff were all lovely, and we look forward to our next stay!
One of our favourite parks. The staff were so helpful and the Bush setting was beautiful. Fire wood was brought to our site for a fee. And lit for us to enjoy. Wine tasting also was available in the evening. 👍
Great bush camp. Spent 2 nights non- powered site at the back of the Park. Fantastic quiet place. Amenities are absolutely brilliant. Would definitely stay again.
My partner and I stayed here in a glamping bell tent for one night in January, it was perfect stopover on a road trip through Coonawarra. The tent itself was clean, comfortable and spacious and the amenities were very clean and accessible. All in all a great experience.
Very relaxing environment and accommodating hosts. Amenities were a very high standard for caravan / camping grounds. Would happily recommend to friends and family.
Great country setting. Good facility to begin your winery tours of the Coonawarra.Glamping tents warm and cosy even in adverse weather conditions.Good place to have a campfire in season.
Great place -- very highly recommend-- sites good power / water -- amenities block highest order
Great location and the facilities were all good, clean, modern, nothing was too much trouble.
