Conturce Hostel - in San Juan, Puerto Rico
The only thing I’d recommend is to provide an option where you would house females separately from the males if they chose to. Some young ladies were put in a room with all men and they seemed a little uncomfortable. If it were my daughter I would have told her not to stay there for that reason alone
Wonderful stay! The place is very clean, instructions, and rules are clear. And the staff is helpful. The rooftop is a great area to hangout and even admire the shore from up there.
Two days before check in, someone in my party fell sick with COVID. Management refused to issue a refund. Finally, after fighting with them, management agreed to a refund and then went back on their word stating that they had a no refund policy.I totally understand that policy, but COVID should be treated as an exception... especially because we were supposed to be staying in a shared room. I thought I was doing the right thing by informing the hostel of the positive status, but they have made getting a refund an absolute nightmare.Do not recommend this place at all due to the sketchy nature of management.
Great location. Great customer service. Great energy from staff and guest. It would’ve been 5 stars but I was disturbed by how dirty it was under the bed (dust and trash). The wall was also dirty with random stains.
Queen Room with Bathroom is a good price. Receptionist very nice. Very Cold AC! It was moderately clean. The bed could be more comfy. Great price. Other than that, Great room. No TV, Get out and enjoy PR! Good enjoyable Rooftop views. Awesome location close to everything you need! I really enjoyed my stay.
I will definitely return to this hostel on my next visit to Puerto Rico. Its very close to the beach. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. Its very safe. I walked around at night by myself and felt completely safe. Lastly, the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable.
This was my first time staying in a hostel and my experience was very good. The rooms and the hostel was clean and I felt like a VIP. My room was directly in front of the hotel receptionist lol . I have to admit, When I first arrived, I thought i was at the wrong place because the outside looks totally different then the inside (which turned out to be a good thing). The inside feels like house instead of a hotel which was a very unique feeling. I had my own room and bathroom. The only thing I had a problem with was the lighting in the room. At night the lighting was very dim in my room and I couldnt open the window shade because the string was missing. These are just minor things that shouldnt bother you. Also the location is great. There is a 24 hour full grocery store, Starbuck, Denny and Burger Fi all on the corner. Also, there is a bus stop (Route T2that takes you directly to and from the airport for 75 cents. you can not beat that. Next time I visit Puerto Rico, I definitely book my stay here.
We booked this place halfway through our trip and were very pleasantly surprised with how clean and cute the building was from top to bottom. 10/10 would recommend/stay again!
Best Hostel in San Juan. I cannot say this enough, it was one of the best hostel experiences I have had. Ive stayed in probably over 25-30 hostels in my life and the hospitality and social atmosphere of this place is hard to find. Ricardo (the manageris the homie, and helped me in every way he could. Even small issues that arose during my time such as WIFI issues while I was working, Ricardo made sure to resolve the problem within minutes. I cannot thank him enough for the hospitality he gave us. The amenities on the property are top notch, capped off by an awesome rooftop that promotes a social atmosphere. Ill be back soon, and would recommend this place to any traveler looking for an awesome SJ experience.
Really nice staff, prime location, 5min. walk to the beach, awesome rooftop, clean, people are friendly, and it is secure, great place to stay!
I will start by saying the hostel is clean, well located walking distance to a beach, a nice super market where you can find all the essentials, la Placita is a 10 min walk and 10 min Uber ride to old San Juan. However, we had MAJOR issues with the noise level, the room we got the double deluxe is right off the street and the window serve no purpose at all to drown out the noise from outside. In addition the room was right under the terrasse and people would party and drag the chairs at all hours of the night until late (quiet hours start at 1am but with no one on sight it’s difficult to maintain). I luckily had ear plugs and was able to have some rest however my friend did not and she did not sleep well at all. I’d strongly recommend getting ear plugs if you’re going to stay in one of the rooms. Also note front desk has limited hours of operation ensure that you have all the information you need for you to access the place if you’re arriving late. Overall it was alright it may not have been the best value for our money due to us not really sleeping well! If you’re a heavy sleeper and or don’t mind the noise then by allMeans!
Easy check in and check out, great rooms and amenities, awesome rooftop balcony with outdoor showers (in addition to the ones for each room), overall everything you need in a hostel.
Great hostel! There was clear communication on how to enter the location upon arrival. I was immediately greeted by an employee who helped me find my room, even after hours. The other guests staying in the hostel were kind, helpful, and respectful. I felt safe the entire time, and felt like I was given the info I needed to have a great night in the local area. I spent most of the night on the awesome rooftop hangout, chatting with other guests. When I made it to bed, it was clean and comfortable. 10/10 recommend for solo or a few travelers!
I love this place but room extremely cold but the location is the best bus stop right at the door take you all over supermarket around the corner food is great also the price by the way open 24 hours I couldnt ask for more the roof top is awesome to relax
dorm rooms are pretty basic (but they do have AC that they let you control). other facilities are nice but the hostel doesn’t feel very social- isn’t much of a vibe there. was generally pretty empty with lots of people just staying one night. staff were nice but didn’t really give off much of a hostel vibe if that makes sense..
We stayed in room 5 over the weekend. Very nice hostel. Our room had a fridge and large private bathroom. Rooftop patio was beautiful. Service was great! Location perfect..close to beaches and food.. Would definately stay there again.
I was so pleasantly surprised at how great this place is. The staff has been exceptionally kind and helpful. We mess up our reservation and they helped us out with getting another place. The shower in our room was so roomy and amazing. Upstairs on the roof there are 2 soaking tubs, and placed to lounge, eat and relax. I will definitely recommend to everyone I know.
A great place to stay at. Very clean, staff is super friendly. Close to the beach. Lots of restaurants around the area. And across Starbucks if thats your thing.
First time staying at hostel and it was not as bad as I thought. Experience is definitely determined by the kind of roomate you have so I hope you get a considerate people in your room. The stay was really nice and clean, just like living back in college. If your flying in on a red eye flight and don’t wanna to spend hundreds of dollars, this would be the place to go for shelter. Great stay and helpful staff! Cute rooftop too
The overall experience was not great. We had a passive aggressive drunk annoying roommate, also had no running water for an entire day. It is a great location because many restaurants, beach, and nightlife is nearby. There is no overnight staff, so if after 5/6pm you have an issue youre basically on your own. The bathroom needs a new shower curtain, the rooms need some upkeep for sure, and some of the lockers are broken, causing a lot of noise when opening/closing, the lighting in the room is terrible so good luck if you want to apply some make-up, the beds are not super uncomfortable, but the bed sheets are super thin, so if you easily get cold, I suggest bringing something extra for yourself.
Staff was amazing. Interior was very clean and updated. Would definitely stay here again. Less than 10 minute walk to beach and couple minute walk to restaurants. The hotel doesnt have parking so we took Uber and didnt have to worry about trying to find a place to park.
I couldnt have asked for anything better! Between the great staff, friendly guests, easy access to the beach, central location and roof top deck, Ill definitely be returning in the near future. Thank you Contruce!
Great hostel experience, staff and guests all very relaxed and a nice rooftop with a bbq you can bring your own beers to drink. Very close to the beach and nightlife areas.
The stay was great!!!! The staff very friendly and helpful plus it was up to date on the cleanliness. The room was cozy. However the bathrooms aren’t in your room but you do get a private bathroom. The overall stay was amazing and recommend it. Great for work remote work and school which is what I did. Walking distance from the night life, great food and just overall enjoyment.
I had the best stay at Conturce. This was my first hostel stay and Ricardo took care of all of my needs. He’s truly wonderful! Everything was clean and a great location!
This is a unique hotel in a great location - the rooms were very nice and the common area/kitchen was very convenient. We did not use the work spaces, but they seemed like a great option, especially for folks taking advantage of flexible "work from anywhere" policies.
I stayed at Conturce for a little less than one month as a solo traveler, and this was my first time staying at a hostel. I am so glad I picked Conturce for so many reasons: it’s clean; the rooftop terrace is a great place to hang out and meet new people; it’s located on the bustling Calle Loíza and is a 5 minute walk from the beach; and the staff are absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t be more pleased with my choice to stay here and grateful to the staff and management for being so accommodating and helpful whenever I needed it. If I ever need to stay in San Juan on a budget I will certainly be returning to Conturce.
1st hostel experience was a positive one. Assisted with car rental, gracious after my flight was canceled. Staff should have waited to tear down the beds until after we left(5mins). Electronic door problematic; quick demo at check in would remedy that. Rooftop setting splendid. 24 hr convenience store a +++. 1 bathroom per guest ratio isnt great. Thanks for everything, Ricardo and Jose/Jorge I think.
I couldn’t ask for anything more at this hostel - clean rooms & bathrooms, comfy sheets, awesome rooftop. I was lucky enough to meet a lively group of people during my stay as a solo traveler and we did beach hangouts & rainforest excursions together. Being so close to the beach is everything as well. I stayed at another hostel during my stay in SJ and Conturce was the superior choice. I’d stay here again!
Good location. There’s a nice roof top terrace. There is a kitchen with a cooking hob and microwave but there isn’t any spoons and limited forks/ knifes which was annoying. Also the hostel is very quiet, so wasn’t much going on and difficult to make friends when solo traveling. Place was clean. I nearly had to sleep on the couch on the first night as I was given the wrong code for my room and difficult to speak to anyone after 8pm to get the correct code. Luckily someone in my room happened to come back and I was let in and told the correct key code.
I had a private room here, so cannot say about the shared ones. But the private one was great, it was very clean, blankets and pillows were very comfortable. AC was very strong.
My first time staying in a hostel and couldn’t be more satisfied. Accommodations and staff are top shelf. The airlines caused a couple of reservation changes and staff was more than willing to work with me. The 2min. walk to the beach was a big plus.
I volunteered at Conturce Hostel for over a month in exchange of stay. I had an overall amazing experience staying there.First of all this Hostel has AMAZING location. Located in Calle Loiza, the hostel is walking distance from bars, clubs, restaurants, bus stop, convenience stores and the beach. A cheap and short Uber ride to must see PR areas such as Viejo San Juan. It is a very safe area to walk around during the day and night. This is also a great place to work remotely if youre a digital nomad. The Hostel is cute and very clean. As part of the Conturce Team, I was able to see for myself how cleaning is done and how much the employees and owners care about their guests. Everyone is so friendly and willing to get out of their way to help you. The Hostel has great aesthetics, and has a unique Rooftop where youre able to meet many of the guests who are also staying at the hostel. As a volunteer I also highly recommend Conturce Hostel. Being part of their team was an amazing experience. Not a toxic work environment! Every single person was super nice and willing to help me whenever I needed to solve an issue or had questions. Great communication from staff as well as management. Jesmar (the managerwas always ready to assist you, very professional and communicative even prior to my arrival. The work itself was fairly easy, working between 20-26 hours per week, 8 hours shift but most weeks Id have 3 or 4 days off, where I was able to explore the Island, go to the beach or hang out with the guests. The work is a combination of Front Desk and cleaning duties.Conturce Team made me feel part of the family and will always have them in my heart.I highly recommend this Hostel to anyone vacationing in Puerto Rico or wanting to volunteer. 10/10 I will come back here to either stay or volunteer again.
The room was clean. The lights werent working on the second set of lights for the room. Nice upfront. Third floor was poppin. Maybe a little more of something 3rd floor would be nice. Quiet hours start at 11pm when the party is getting started.
Beautiful cozy little hostel. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. The facilities are eccentric and colorful. Amazing rooftop to watch sunsets and sunrises alike. The only hiccup I had was with the bed in our room but with the help of staff it got resolved very quickly.Stayed for 3 days, 2 nights. Would recommend for anyone who doesnt mind a community based hotel. The Santurce area has a lot of restaurants to explore.
This is the best hostel in San Juan when it comes to the location and the positive vibration. Staff couldnt be more amazing. A special than you to Jasmar who works relentlessly to ensure everyones comfort and for doing extra by guiding us through the city. Will definitely come back and will recommend this place to any of my family or friends visiting PR.
It exceeded my expectations. They are clean, bathroom, shower, toilet, and rooms. They are very friendly and also bilingual. Never had a problem with someone not being at the service desk. And the peice is cheap. This was my first trip to puerto rico and i dont know much spanish so it was a big relief being able to communicate. Also the location is near stores, transportation, and the beach a walk away.
Travel 7/22-25/2021I will like say that it was a different experience; different people from different places in one room 4 bunkbeds male and female. I had a great time and will stay again their is a locker for every guess in the room that the Hostel provides towel not include, but with a fee you will get one, Bathroom in the room is shared. The front desk person Patrick is an awesome respectful and understanding down to earth person. My suggestion is that all females should be in one room and male in another. That will make this place a 5 star all the way.
This hostel is located 5 minutes from the beach walking distance. Restaurants are everywhere you must eat at Bebos amazing food. The rooftop is amazing I met nice people from all over the world. Patrick was amazing and very welcoming. The staff was very friendly and professional. As a female solo traveler I highly recommend this place. I will be back soon.
We came here as last minute planners and luckily we found this gem of a place. The personal was exceptional and the room clean. Great attention is taken to make sure your stay is as comfortable as can be.
The hostel and the rooms were very clean, the common kitchen seemed quite clean too. It is in a nice neighbourhood and the proximity to the beach was nice. The price also seems very reasonable, especially for the location and the cleanliness. The only reason for the 4 stars is that we were provided an emergency phone number for after hours, however no one answered the call when we called around 10 pm. The stay itself was very great and we would stay there again.
This was an absolutely wonderful hostel for our family to crash at while in Puerto Rico. We were looking for a budget friendly stay and this place was exactly that. We got a private room with two comfortable beds and a private bath but we also got to mix it up with fellow travelers in the common areas. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Had we known we would’ve liked this spot this much we would’ve booked more nights here instead of an Airbnb. The owners are also locals which is nice. Support local.
I had a great time in San Juan and some of the best moments were at the Conturce Hostel. Its a really friendly atmosphere and you will meet plenty of nice, interesting people. The staff were kind and helpful, the 8-bed dorm room was sufficiently air-conditioned, and you can look forward to a party on the roof most nights. The location is very convenient with a supermarket almost across the street, plenty of restaurants, stores, and laundry facilities within a 15 minute walk, and the beach is only 3-4 blocks away. The downside of the location is the noise. Calle Luiza has plenty of noisy vehicles driving down it most hours of the day. Aside from that, I enjoyed my stay at the Conturce Hostel and would stay there again.
We enjoyed our stay, the staff was helpful and me the room was clean. It is also a short walk to the beach! Internet was pretty slow so don’t count on it. It’s in the Santurce neighborhood, and there was lots of cool street art, but it’s not walkable to Old San Juan.
I didnt have a good time. When I arrived it took 30 min for someone to open the door and let us in. When someone arrived we were told to wait because our room wasnt ready, so we waited for a couple hours more to get out room. We were offered beer as an apology for the wait and it never arrived. We reserved a room that said it had a bathroom, yet the key for the bathroom didnt work, so we had to use the comunal bathroom which made me mad because I paid extra money expecting a private bathroom. At night, i was with my partner in the lobby alone and we heard someone mumbling. We noticed that it was a drunk person and once he saw us, he started to make us feel uncomfortable. He started cussing and getting aggresive. My partner tried to calm him down, and in the conversation this person said he wasnt even staying here. That he was in the Hilton hotel, which is near from the hostel. I wondered how the hell he entered because to enter the hostel you have to enter a code in the gate and climb the stairs. Like I said, there was NO ONE in the lobby. I knew that there were guest staying in the rooftop, but he kept blocking the staircase so we couldnt look for help. It occured to me to call the number and no one anserwerd. I DMed them through instagram and nothing happened. When someone finally came down from the stairs, that person handled the situation, but it looked like a guest. In the morning, which was the same day we left, I finally saw someone in the reception desk. The employee that I dont remember her name, but she was a puertorican with red hair. She scolded me and my partner because we parked our parking inside the lot when that was prohibited. It wasnt our intention to cause disturbance, but we asked the employees about the parking and they didnt answer us, there was no sign that said there is no parking inside the lot, there is one but it didnt say dont park here, there was nothing in social media nor their website... Its their fault for not giving their employees proper training or having a message clarifying the doubt. Talking to her, she seemed to know that there were problems with the staff. The owner should improve these things. She told us that those "employees" were voluntary gringos that in exhange of staying for free in the hostel, they had to work. When she told me that, it made so much sense that the person who basically kicked out the drunk person at night, technically worked there. I dont think there is nothing wrong with having voluntary people staying at a hostel, i mean its a hostel, but they have to get proper training, or not let just anyone stay. My experience wasnt what i expected at all. If this rating had a negative, I would give one.
Disclaimer for posterity: I stayed here right as PR had relaxed travel restriction and had a huge influx of people but was still struggling with workforce shortages.I stayed here for 10 days in the 8-beds room. This was my first hostel experience.-Location: Close enough to Condado for all the fancier places but distant enough that you can find less expensive places to eat or hang out within walking distance. Super convenient access to multiple beach fronts. Theres a supermarket, minimart and gas station nearby.-Cost: Fair, no complaints.-Cleanliness: Place gets cleaned every day. Cleaning is well done. Most other guests did their part in keeping the place clean.-Comfort: Rooms AC was a bit on the cold side. The terrace has plenty of both sun, shade and breeze.-Amenities: the website says fully equipped kitchen. Although you can find something to get things done I wouldnt call it fully equipped. If I were an owner/partner I would add an on-site filtered water fountain, a rice cooker and a new countertop burner (the one on site is rusted). It should help keep the guests hydrated and for those looking to stay long term save on dinners well fed.-Staff: 5 star team. Jesmar and her crew (Paola, Kay, Dainaare all VERY hard working, super polite... you name it. Luxury hotel talent in a hostel!Message to the owners: The place definitely needs 2 staff members on site at a time. The had to run the front desk and servicing the rooms and guests requests and power outages and this and that... Its only a matter of time before they get burnt out.Rating: Why 4 and not 5? We had two false fire alarms over night. Not actual danger but being woken up at 1am by a super loud fire alarm is not what you want to experience during your vacation. There was no staff for the night shift and I had to call the Fire Dpt and get some pointers on silencing the thing. The next morning we were given an emergency phone # but we didnt had one from the beginning.Closing statements:-I would encourage anyone looking for a hostel experience to stay at Conturce.-I would stay at Conturce again.-Next time I travel, to PR or elsewhere, I will explore hostels as a place to stay. great way to interact with very interesting people for many different places.
Me and my family enjoyed the stay. When we first arrived we seen a lot of people outside but we later learned that those where tourists. Everyone was minding their business enjoying San Juan and taking pictures! The host was very nice and responsive to all calls and text! This place is spacious we had more than enough room and the roof top is definitely a plus!!
Definitely a must book. Place is Clean The atmosphere is quiet yet friendly. I only wish the air was turned down a bit at nite. Restful sleep was difficult. Perhaps a private room Would have allowed comfortable sleep. I would book a private room next time.
Im torn about this hostile/hotel. We arrived about 3 hrs early, the room I booked was a 6 bed dorm but we were persuaded into a double bed room which was perfectly fine.I felt weird not know who worked at the hostile, I asked 3 people if the worked for conturce and their responses were "not really", they all still helped me with my request though. I can tell that a lot of the guest were long term and family like. It was odd seeing people do coke but hey, its their party and this is community living. The rooftop was cute but there was no yoga, no movie and no liquor, just an empty bar and 2 working rooftop showers. The room had been cleaned by the front desk attendant, great, smelled disinfected BUT the shower didnt have a shower head. So basically I showered with a water hose attached to the wall. The walls are paper thin but I heard nothing once I fell asleep. The air conditioning worked great! Immediate location looks very urban but doable for one night, the beach was about a 10 minute walk and a grocery store is about 5.
I always wanted to stay at a hostel when I was young, but I was too busy working. So, I took a chance and booked a trip. I am really enjoying the place, very accommodating staff, very clean, very spacious. I am a rather private person, so probably wont return but if you can handle bunks and want to meet people check it out. There is a cool little free library across the street too!
