Coney Island Hot Dogs in La Crosse

I will start by saying that I have enjoyed coney island for a number of years dating back to my childhood. Unfortunately today will be my last visit. I witnessed something that was so egregious from a customer service standpoint that I still cant believe what I heard. You would think something like this would come from a teenager behind the counter but it was actually the owner. An elderly couple came in at 6:50 and the restaurant closes at 7:00. Understandably if anyone has worked in the restaurant business you can understand the frustration, however the way he was treated was appalling. Most of us understand that you cant order past the closing time but that wasnt the case. He was belittling to this gentleman. I finished my dinner and as I was walking by I said to him that I was sorry for the way he was treated. At that point the owner engaged me and said thank you for consoling him. I told him I thought he was out of line and then he got heated with me and kicked me out. He stated that just because your old doesnt mean your right. I dont know about anyone else but our elderly deserve better than that. I know everyone has a bad day-me included but I cant ever imagine speaking to a customer the way he did-especially the elderly. Im sure Coney Island will go on but it will be without a middle aged woman and an elderly couple.

If you like skinny hotdogs with ample toppings, and skinny French fries, this is the place. Great service, good prices. Love it!

Update your info on Google. Drive from St Croix Falls only to find this restaurant closed despite the Google info saying it was open. So we went to the brew pub next door and had terrific sandwiches instead. 😭

Says open until 3 but just stopped by and they arent open. What gives? Its 1:07pm right now.

SO good! Frequented this place whenever visiting my daughter at UW-L! If you love a good coney dog, this place is for you! They will even ship the dogs and fixings to you! Great gift idea!

My fist time here and last.. guess short staffed but me and a friend were passed up when ordering.. money was touched then my food with no gloves only table available is next to what seems to be an employees dirty shoes.... His sweatshirt sleeve dragged in food then counter and back in food again.

I like the 70s style decor, but nothing is exactly clean. I avoid eating in because the tables and chairs are always greasy. Its cheap, it tastes ok, but its not exactly a classy place.

In the mood for a real coney island treat? This is the place to go.

Couldnt go to La Crosse without getting 2 double dogs

This is one classic / great place to stop in a hurry, or looking for an inexpensive meal. Their dogs are excellent, and the fries are always made as you order them. They can be the best fries money can buy, if they dont pull them too early (or the heat is set right, etcand they end up a little undercooked. They have other options, but sticking to the chili dog / dry combos has been our forte.

This place is somehow ensconced in a Time Vortex where it is perpetually 1973. Such a cool old school vibe and the french fries are fantastic!

Ive been coming to Coney for nearly 70 years. Still love the hot dogs and fries. Will keep stopping in every week or two.

They say they open at 9 am. The doors are open, but you cant get anything until 10:30. Either change the time shown here or, even crazier, have food available when you say your open.

I have walked in there many of times and the employees are standing there wipe a table down its always dirty. The plate I received was dirty I had to ask for foam container. I also heard that many people go there to sell drugs. Cause its not hardly busy and they close so Early. The manager is also rude

My 5--stars refer to this place back in the 50s and 60s and 70s when the hot dogs were from specialty meat and specially made skinny for matching skinny buns. Their fame arose from their "secret sauce" which was used on the dogs. It was "fast food" service even back then. Yes, even back then the place was kinda dumpy but no one cared because the "dogs" were cheap and good! Its kinda sad to hear the dogs have no doubt morphed into something that isnt a specialty anymore.

Its dirty. Locals love it, everyone else avoids it. Buy cheap hot dogs from Wal-Mart, and save yourself the trip.

best chili dogs on earth

I always want to like Coney Island, but honestly their hotdogs are identical to store bought ones. I could buy my own oscar meyers and canned chili and replicate this place.
