The history of the Canadian air force is told at this museum with a collection of old aircraft.
First rate museum! Very nicely set up, the staff were excellent. Highly, highly recommend!
No entrance fee or tickets - solely donations. Very knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. Well planned, cohesive layout and interesting, even if you are not an enthusiast. Lovely souvenirs fairly priced. We spent ± 1 hour inside and ± 45 minutes outside.
Very informative about the Canadian Air Force history ! Worth the visit.
It was so interesting to see fighter planes from long ago.
History. Wow awesome place. Well laid out .very friendly staff.
A well put together archive museum of the Comox based Canadian Air Force Museum.
Super cool displays and tons of history. Indoor space was nice with friendly staff and lots of info about planes, missions, engines, weapons, and the people that made it all run. Local stories are a nice touch and the field of planes was great too, theyre pretty darn big up close!
Excellent museum!Wonderful displays and lots of intimate information regarding Canadas contribution to the skies!Highly recommended 👍
Great artifacts and history!! Enjoyed reading the history and clearly it is updated with recent dates.
Brought back a lot of memories of my growing up in pmq on the base
Lots of interesting stuff here. Worth the visit!
So much to see and read. Run by great hosts - volunteers included.
Ive visited this museum dozens of times since April 2010, and have volunteered there multiple times...so Im not unbiased here. BUT...despite its small size, it has a LOT of fantastic information packed into it. I love it!!!
Canadian history at its best, features a lot of actual artifacts from the second world war from the Canadian side and other political issues happening during the period. An excellent look into the start of aviation in Canada in military aspects
Very interesting museum. I pray this history is never repeated!
So much stuff to see! Loved how you walk through it chronologically and it gives recognition to each part played in our Airforce history. Recognizes local heros and gives their stories.
The Air Force museum is a really good place to see so many aircraft parts and the history of many things, and the best part, it’s free! In the museum there are many aircraft parts and engines, with also an old atc tower control which you can touch and see everything in it too. The visit was amazing so overall it’s a 10/10.
An excellent and very informative museum.I always recommend new people to the valley or visitors to check it out.
What an incredibly educational place. So well laid out and comprehensive starting from WWI on. I was instantly in tears reading about the daring and courageous First World War Canadian pilots, like Billy Bishop, in their relatively recently-invented airplanes. There are several model planes hung overhead. Also uniforms, weapons, medals, maps and history.Plus the hosts are knowledgeable and welcoming. A friendly must see.
Amazing history of planes, helicopters, our involvement in the war. Host is an older gentleman that is so knowledgeable. Great models of aircraft, t-shirts and hats at very fair prices.
An amazing window to the past as seen through the history of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the important role they played in training and of the defence of Canadas west coast.
This is a must visit if you come to Comox! Staff were super friendly and the place gave you the appreciation to our Canadian armed force.Admission by donation and have great selection of little gifts and t shirts too. Great for all ages
Was a great place to learn a bit about our air force and some of the missions our country has been a part of!
So much interesting history! They weave together the big stories of WW1 to today into how Comox played key roles in those events. Very interesting, very well done.
I should have allowed more time and consequently would recommend at least 2 hrs for the museum portion alone. The staff are very friendly, Ill be going back.
My favorite place in the Valley. The history of the WarThe name " Aurora" is my Mother Aurora Bu°lquirin Billiones Naylor De LeonA true unhidden artifacts of every reason about the War.Mt. Washington U. S. A.Love: Prophet Ramona
We have found that every museum has a single piece of treasure that makes it unique in the world. This museum is such a place. I’m not going to tell you what they have but lets say a movie was made about it. I never expected to find it in a little Comox Museum.
Please take the time to look at the Canadian Air Force museum. They start at the beginning and end up with the current aircraft. The staff are more than willing to help out. The admission is by donation. They also have great merch.
Drive and park the car.. get out and stare at the planes and use your imagination to fly away. Great views of the mountains and not far to get to. Great place to chill !!
Amazing little museum. One of the best museums of any kind in British Columbia! Great, informative display with many pictures, artifacts and models.
A must see. Staff is very friendly. Entrance is by donation. They have such interesting pieces of history. You can also check out the planes and jets just down the roads. Kids will love it!
Excellent selection of displays, historicphotos, many going back to WW1 and 2. The museum is staffed by volunteers and is funded by individual donations at the entrance. Of particular interest to someone living on Vancouver Island. There are photos indicating various bases on the west coast in WW 2.
Nice place if you love Air Force and interested in history
Very informative. Brought back memories of my brother who was in RCAF for over 30+ years. :)
Amazing! Very well curated and maintained! Highly recommended for all Canadians and tourists. My young kids loved it!
Enjoyed the visit to the airbase and museum. Friendly staff and lots of great information. There is certainly hours of things to learn inside and lots of interesting tidbits. I had no idea that Canada had been bombed by the Japanese on WWII. What!? The walk through the planes on exhibit was also neat. Really enjoyed our time. Thank you.
Excellent little museum! Great stories and displays of Canadian aviation history on the west coast and CFB Comox. Has a very good aviation and military history library and an operating movie theater that still shows old war movies. Highly recommended!
Enjoyed this gem of a museum. There are fascinating models, real example pieces from different eras, and great information about the birth and development of military aviation in Canada. Wish I could have spent several hours there! Payment by donation, and a nice little gift shop where I picked up a mug and purchased another as a gift for a friend. Informative, well laid out, and a good spot to visit in Comox. We stopped to get photos in the ejection seat from a CF-101 Voodoo. I had never heard of the Japanese balloons bombs before, and though I knew about Billy Bishop (who shot down the Red BaronI was unfamiliar with our other ace pilots...who you can learn about at this great museum!
Excellent museum. If war time and/or flight history is of interest to you then you will enjoy this place. By donation. Front desk gentleman was extremely friendly and helpful. He was more than happy to answer all of my questions. There is also an extensive research library there. Plus various cool aircraft to view outside on the museum grounds and just down the road at the hangar.
So worth stopping in to see this museum! So much to see.
Fantastic, in depth, history of Canada, the RCAF, and Comox. Very well laid out and maintained and deserving of more than just one visit.Friendly and knowledgable volunteers who are happy to help.
Interesting place...Only saw the outside planes, which are free to have a look at...Try It :o)
A very nice small museum packed with stuff to see. Friendly staff with limited parking. There is more parking across the street at the canex. This museum is also part of the planes park 500metres down the road go to the museum first. The staff will tell you about the other park.
This was a great little visit that shows the history of the RCAF from its inception in First World War to its present day activities. The staff are lovely and they also have a great selection of memorabilia to take home. Good stop in a location that has great historical significance.Pro Tip: Check their opening and closing hours!
Real military stuff inside. Old, but educational. They even allow you to wear a helmet and turn on miniature airport lights and runways.I found lots of information about Canadian air force, aviation, missions, equipment, etc. If it is not enough, they have tiny library there. And they offer flight simulator game to children and (if you nice enoughadults. You could also buy some memorabilia in a little shop.
Very well done! The volunteers are friendly and welcoming. There were some very interesting pieces of history here including the journal of a POW and a picture book of a nurse who had her patients write her something or draw her a picture. We spent a fair amount of time here and it was very interesting!
Its a wonderful place to spend a few hours browsing, friendly volunteer staff, interesting displays, even a library with packed with books on aviation history. Entrance fee is donations. Excellent selection of aviation related gifts at the gift shop. Hope to visit it again soon.
I was surprised by the exceptionally high quality of this museum, and wish that I would have had much more time there. The 2 staff members that I talked to were extremely helpful - obviously passionate about what they do. Parking is tight, but I was able to easily park my motorhome a couple of blocks away.
Wonderful museum about the RAF, SAR, and RCAF, with friendly staff, I loved it
Learn more about Canadas aviation history in a fun-family-oriented environment. Great volunteers staff this Comox treasure.
