Commonwealth Restaurant in Glendale
Description
Privilege
Amazing restaurant that is probably my only 10/10 restaurant. Went there for my post civil ceremony wedding dinner and other celebrations in the past. So sad that they might be closing for good and I wouldve definitely gone there more if I had known
MoreWent back to Commonwealth again tonight and was blown away, again! Every dish, Amazing! Such a complex combination of flavors! Had the roasted cauliflower and arugula salad, hanger steak, shrimp dumplings, lamb chops, lobster bites, butterscotch pudding. Every choice was excellent. Service was great. Our main server, Taylor, was helpful and knowlegable. The other servers fill in as needed. An awesome dining experience!
MoreOur favorite intimate date night spot in Burbank with delicious shareable plates! Our all time fave (we almost always order twois the Brussels with Octopus...and the mussels are soo good that youll need extra bread to sop up the sauce! Great ambiance and service too!
MoreI paired oysters with sangria wine, both the red and white sangrias were delicious. The oysters were on the small side (I think normal for the typebut very tasty and fresh, the sauce is amazing. All the sauces for the daily special oysters are made in house. Food was fantastic.
MoreExcellent small plates restaurant. Eggplant burrata and duck confit were fantastic.Small place, so make sure to make reservations. Can bring own wine, $20 corkage fee as of March 2020.
MoreEveryone is our 7 dishes was right on point. What a wonderful place for a date night or just a great meal. Worst part was trying to choose which dish we wanted to order becuse we likes so many of the options. The butterscotch pudding was to die for!
MoreThis place never disappoints its probably the most underrated restaurant in burbank. You can drive by it a 100 times and still not notice it (I kinda like it that way in a selfish waythey truly care about quality and service. You can taste the love they put into each dish. My only complaint is they dont change the menu as much as I would like. Ive had everything there and its all amazing the only reason I dont go more often is Ive had everything they serve. But definitely give them a try. You wont be disappointed
MoreWeve been coming to Commonwealth for a few years and it never disappoints. Cozy, neighborhood spot that serves up food beyond what a 5-star restaurant produces on a nightly basis. This truly is the best kept secret in L.A.
MoreWhat a neighborhood gem! We passed this small place numerous times on walks before stopping in on a whim for date night. The ambiance is intimate but festive because there are communal tables and all the diners are there for the amazing food and drinks. We ordered the octopus with brussel sprouts and it was one of the most delicious dishes Ive had in recent memory! The whiskey drink was strong and tasty. The salad and French onion soup were good but Ill be thinking about that octopus for the next several months. If youre anywhere near Burbank, do it!
MoreMy daughter and I went here on a whim. We were visiting from Seattle which has an amazing food scene and this place did not disappoint. Their muscles were to die for! We also shared the mushroom risotto which was creamy and decadent and if I wanted to be 300 pounds I would have ordered another. We also shared their special for the night which was a filet, cubed and topped with fried spinach leaves, sitting in most delicious sauce. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and we are sad it’s not in SEATTLE!
MoreQuiet and quaint good place for a date. Whiskey selection is very good. Like the small pates they serve. Waiting staff and kitchen staff are definitely very and attentive.
MoreThe staff here were brilliant, friendly without being obtrusive. The wine was great and recommended by the staff. The meals were Devine ! When I go out I want something I cant make at home . I certainly got that here. The setting was also nice, cosy without being claustrophobic. Well done. Next time I am in LA I will definitely be going back. Excellent food. Absolutely the best in the area. Crowd can be kind of annoying but thats typical here. But for sure worth trying
Moreamazing food, small intimate location. real foody food. I had pork belly on grits, that was amazing and the passion fruit sunny side up for desert. it looked like a real egg, but tasted unique and yummy. I highly recommend this restaurant.
MoreWe had reservations at 6:00 and wines and dined until 8:00. We enjoyed all our food.. the beet salad and the lamb were some of the favorites. We had 10 different plates all very tasty. The restaurant is small, quaint but full of energy and good vibes. Delicious food, great service and overall a wonderful evening! Visited on a Tuesday night with family (6 in total). Shared a wide variety of small plates, sometimes doubling up and sometimes splitting so all had a bite. Complemented with a couple of nice bottles of wine. Food was great, service attentive without being overbearing despite a full house. Only two sittings a night, and plan for a full two hours. Only reservation is no coffee or hot drinks!
MoreGreat local food, good flavors. I got the mussels and the cauliflower, very good. portion size is small plates. You pic 2-3 entries.restaurant is small, get a reservation and doesnt look inviting from the outside. well worth it.
MoreOur favorite place to eat in Burbank. Doesnt hurt that its within a mile of our house but wed happily drive across town for Commonwealths excellent offerings. The menu is comprised of small plates drawn from many different cuisines, their flavor profiles are out of sight, they play with textural contrast and unexpected combinations. I mean, would you have come up with grilled octopus, brussels sprouts, Thai vinaigrette, mint, and chili? (My favorite thing, btw - I fall just a little short of licking the bowl)When they first opened they were limited to beer and wine but have since acquired a liquor license and offer a full bar and cocktails. The staff have always been marvelously attentive and friendly. Honestly cannot recommend this place enough. Its a Burbank gem.Oh, also. Its set seating times so be sure to call ahead and get the scoop.
MoreI was skeptical at first, but the service was great and the food was delicious. I have a pretty simple pallet, but that didnt stop me from really appreciating the complex flavors brought together for their menu. Highly recommend giving this place a shot when you have the chance.
MoreSome of the most delicious food youll ever taste, made by some of the nicest restauranteurs youll ever meet. Everything on the menu is a delight for your taste buds, from the salads to the shrimp dumplings, from the mushroom risotto to the butterscotch pudding. Also a great bar with a nice wine selection. Definitely check it out.
MoreTheyre open 4 hours a day, no joke. Make that reservation and get on over here for some delicious food. Its a cute and cozy restaurant, with friendly servers and great service. Im not sure if reservations are required, but theyre highly recommended considering theyre open a few hours a day. While the plates are small, the food is fantastic. Id love to dine here again soon. Unfortunately Burbank doesnt work well for me with LA traffic. We ordered several items to share between the 2 of us. We had the Rainbow Beets Salad, Half Dozen of the Daily Oysters, Grilled Octopus, CW Fried Chicken, and the Smoked Pork Belly. Everything was delicious, but the Grilled Octopus was perfection. I wouldnt be upset if anyone ordered exactly what we did. If I had to choose a least favorite, it would be the oysters. The Oysters are very small, and even with the different sauces offered... theyre hardly satisfying. Rainbow Beets and the Fried Chicken are a couple of the must order items if and when you make it to CW for dinner. The servers were fast and friendly. Plates were cleared as soon as we finished an items, and new plates were brought to the table. The downside is lack of parking on the same side of the street. The sign on the window states that parking is across the street.Id love to bring a friend here sometime for a birthday or other special celebration.
MoreThis place became one of my favorite restaurants in LA very quickly. I could say right from the very first visit. The owners and the Staff are amazing people with fantastic customer service skills. Aside from all that, its the food that gets everyone there. The kitchen here is an artwork. Carefully picked and paired. Miss ya guys, ill see you soon!!
MoreCourse #5. The Lamb. Started with the beet salad. Moved in to octopus then mussels. Divine! Excellent, thoughtful service. Don’t come here unless you love to dine!
MoreFor Burbank, one of the premier restaurants in town. Its tapas so, its over priced of course, but good food. Octopus is one of my favorites but Im partial to any sweet chili type of sauce.
MoreA perfect dining experience in Burbank. The food is elevated but pleasingly unpretentious. The service is the same. We shared the roasted cauliflower salad, lobster croquettes, mussels and skirt steak and butterscotch pudding. All were delicious and I cant choose a favorite. We will return any time were in the area!
MoreI came here 3 years ago and the food was unforgettably delicious but Unfortunately I now returned to a dreadful experience. The risotto was so salty and inconsistent in texture and the chicken was drenched in so much ginger sauce that it was the only ingredient I was able to taste. The butterscotch dessert which is why I had returned, was topped with prosciutto that taste like it had been cooked in old oil, and it was not crunchy (soggy..😖 However the service was pleasant But as far as the food goes the food is Far from Good. I was so disappointed 😔
MoreFantastic every time. Weve been here many times and have tried just about everything on the menu. Delicious always. The friendly staff make you feel like family. Try the shrimp dumplings.
MoreSmall, intimate setting, creative, tasty food, and attentive service. The menu is designed for sharing, so plates are small. They were very well staged, so we had plenty of time to enjoy each dish. I would make reservations. We had a party of four, without reservations. They were able to seat us but were a bit distressed. Once we settled in, though, the service was awesome.
MoreCame here on business and wow, excellent place for dinner. Great ood and great atmosphere. Its small with a great menu and wonderful service. The food was amazing. The octopus was perfectly cooked and the best eggplant ever!!
MoreSmall, intimate space with creative, delicious dishes that will leave you wanting more .. I cannot wait to come back.
MoreThis restaurant is a "FIND"! A friend referred me, and I am forever indebted. The food is exceptional, and never disappoints. The staff is attentive and plates are changed with each course. All presentations are like fine art. Reservations are advisable because it is packed with foodies.
MoreExcellent all around. The food is sophisticated with subtle, unique and delightful combinations for the palate. Favorites: all small plates- octopus and Brussel sprouts; lamb chops; lobster croquettes; fried chicken; and butter scotch pudding with prosciutto for dessert - amazing!! The service is equally good and attentive; and the ambiance comfortable, intimate and easy. Highly recommend
MoreA great find in Burbank: A small restaurant that serves unique dishes. Small plates are their specialty so choose several and enjoy sharing. The place gets busy so reservations recommended.Ordered the Mussels entree to share. Large, Canadian mussels cooked in a thicker wine reduction with chilis, garlic and butter. Not spicy, very flavorful. Only about 10 mussels but they were so scrumptiously good -- so we ordered it again! The bread was grilled and buttered, the perfect accompaniment.Cauliflower and Arugula salad. Delicious salad with light green goddess dressing and warmth of cumin.Grilled chopped salad. You will definitely taste the grill char. Very good. The Chef sent over an amuse-bouche of a cold soup. Light and delicious.
MoreWhat an amazing experience for my birthday dinner. I only wished I had a bigger stomach so I couldve tried everything in the menu. Every dish was a hit! We tried the Grilled eggplant burrata, Seafood rissotto, Grilled octopus and brussels, Steamed mussels, Grilled new zealand lamb chops, Pan seared duck foie gras, Smoked pork belly, Maine lobster and truffle croquettes. The grilled octopus and brussel sprouts were the perfect balance of smoky and sour. Their steamed mussels though were one of my favorites. I have never had a softer or fluffier mussel than their steamed mussels. The delicate mouth feel only added to the flavor explosion of the broth and the mussels. The pan seared duck foie gras is exactly how you expect an expertly prepared foie gras to taste like. Its beauty is its simplicity. If I had one slight gripe, it was the lighting. We sat right in the middle of the restaurant, underneath the chandelier. Unfortunately, it was so dark under there that we could barely see the the food that the chef so beautifully presented, but it was not a deal breaker.Overall, I think this has the makings of being one of my favorite restaurants. I will definitely be back to revisit my favorite dishes and try some new ones. This is a definite must visit for tapas lovers!
MoreAMAZING! Fairly expensive but well worth it. The food was delicious. The restaurant is very small and I highly recommend you make a reservation. Get ready to be elbow to elbow. Nonetheless, this has become one of our favorite go-to restaurant.
MoreGreat variety of food and awesome service!
Hard to describe small plate perfection.... Seriously the best food ever. Crazy flavors that are so natural they extremely hard difficult to categorize in a food type. Go, I promise you will be delighted!
MoreI was in town for work and staying down the street. My dad recommended I check Commonwealth out and it did not disappoint. I had the sashimi which was excellent and extremely fresh and the grilled eggplant which was also great - a fresher and lighter take on eggplant Parmesan. Wine was amazing - something on the list for everyone. Service was great. Love the feel and atmosphere of this place. Will be back.
MoreIt was a classic place to visit for first timers in LA. We had the avocado salad which was your basic salad, nothing inventive. We also had the linguine and clams which were delicious. It was a generous portion of pasta and clams. Finally we shared a bottle of Decoy wine.
MoreGrilled salad? Dont ask questions, just order it and thank me later. Easily the best salad I have ever had. The Carpaccio is refreshing and delicious. I prefer scallops with a lighter sear, but the flavors were excellent.
MoreMy buddy took me here. We were looking for a cheap, light lunch. Small place, parking on site. Very good selection of hot dogs and brauts. Im a traditionalist, so I dont like a lot of stuff on my hot dog. I was able to build my own instead of picking one from their menu. Very good hot dog...and BIG....
MoreFun to visit the original Bobs from 1949. Was a little disappointed with my salad, but then again theyre known for bugers. They have photos/memorabilia on the walls from movie scenese shot on location. A live drummer was playing right outside which added to the fun feel. Although our server was very pleasant, service was pretty slow.
MoreThis is my favorite Mexican place to take out. Ingredients are always fresh. They have a great menu. Very friendly and fast service. Line is long during lunch hour but well worth the wait. Great options for vegetarians. You can also have the tostada salad without the fried shell.
More“THE BEST OF MEMORIES”We love going here with our OLD friends. When we were dating 50 years ago this was the place to go. Our group of friends will all get together and go down memory lane. The food is just as good as it was 50 years ago. They even have a large back booth that the Beatles sat in. We thoroughly...
MoreInteresting fusion of flavors for some dishes. Unsure of what direction they are aiming for in terms of cuisine style. Wine selection was mediocre. Employee seemed reluctant to seat party of 2 when it was a bit more than an hour before closing.
More3.5 StarsAcross the board, each dish either hit the mark or missedPersimmon and Asparagus Salad - refreshing, delicate, sweet, balancedRoasted Cauliflower and Arugula Salad - flat in flavor, cauliflower presence was lackingGrilled Octopus and Brussels - while separately they were fine together they felt disjointed and didnt harmonize wellMaine Lobster and Truffle Croquettes - no highs or lows, felt caviar wasnt neededShrimp Dumplings - shrimp was juicy and flavorful, well-made dumpling but the sauce was far too salty and richPork Belly - tender, nice pops of acidity and heatFried Chicken - while cooked well, the flavors were one note and the sauce was far too sweet and sourNueske Bacon and Burrata - a nice hit of smoke, burrata was decent but not as creamy as I would have preferredPan Seared Duck Foie Gras - foie gras was done well but the sweet wasabi soy was a huge miss. It was far too salty, far too much of it on the plate to the point where it drowned the bok choy and rendered them inedible salt blocks. Also, there was no trace of the wasabi nor was it "sweet"Butterscotch Pudding with Prosciutto - a unique pairing that works but in moderation. After a few spoonfuls, I was doneService was friendly and food rotated at a good pace, you never felt rushed and they would wait before firing the next itemOverall ThoughtsWhile the creativity and technique are there, the balance of flavors is lacking
MoreShow up for your seating, order a bunch of tasty dishes, and then just add cocktails. The wait staff is professional, attentive and knowledgeable. Drinks were great, food was awesome and the scene is interesting. If you dont like this place it probably means youre one of those Illuminati joining Reptilians from space that I keep reading about on the internet. If you dont like this place but also dont remember being a Reptilian then its probably because youve been reprogrammed to blend in and infiltrate our society.
Morei could be surprised. here food makes them feel even more delicious wine.the fresh oyster, Tender shrimp dumplings, grilled lamb chop.Thank you owner! Your recommendation was excellent! This is an amazing place to burbank!Next week I will visit again. ;)
MoreThe owner was awesome. He hooked me up with a huge bag of wine corks for my Pinterest projects. You sir are cool. This restaurant is tiny. Probably the smallest restaurant Ive seen. Also its super loud up in there. The acoustics of this place arent the best, and peeps be getting turnt and rowdy. The food was interesting. Some dishes stood out, and some were just okay. I really enjoyed the smoked hamachi belly. It reminded me of a sophisticated tuna salad cracker lunch pack. The eggplant burrata was delicious, the foie gras was awesome.I think the lobster croquettes were alllightt, the pork belly wasnt great, and the lamb chop was downright dullsville. The butterscotch pudding was awesome, and the moms cake was surprisingly moist. All in all a great meal with a great friend. I always discount Burbank as a place to eat, but Im interested in what else it has to offer other than Ikea swedish meatballs. :)
MoreThis place belongs in Beverly Hills, not Burbank!!!!!!!!!!! The food and service are outstanding. Their small dishes work well for foodies who want to try a bit of everything. The place is charming, meaning small, so you better reserve a table. Keep up the good work!
MoreI am apprehensive about reviewing this place in fear that it will be overrun by the masses once everyone finds out how AMAZING this place is.....And theres a legitimate reason for this fear. This place is really small, its elegantly decorated but it may be able to fit about 25-30 guests. HIGHLY recommend reservations if you want a seat or you can opt for bar seats or a really neat communal dining table. My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday around opening time (7pmand it was already packed. We sat at the bar area which wasnt as bad as I imagined. The service at the bar was prompt and friendly. They serve small plates so its certainly recommended to share and get tons to mix and match. What we tried:1st dish- Arugula and Roasted Cauliflower with an arugula pesto, Parmesan and pine nuts. SOOOO yummy. The cauliflower was perfectly roasted and crunchy, the pesto provided the perfect amount of zest to the dish. Great for vegetarians.2nd dish- Grilled Octopus and Brussels in a Thai vinaigrette, fresh mint and chili. An absolute must try! The octopus was crispy and salty which made for a great counter texture to the Brussels. LOVED the Thai vinaigrette and you have to make sure the entire dish is covered in it. ONE OF MY FAVS3rd dish- New Caledonia "soft shell" prawns grilled to perfection with garlic butter and lemon. Simplistic but so sophisticated. Every part of the prawn is edible (even the eyes). The shell is soft enough to consume but still crunchy and tasty with the lemon and butter flavors. It was heavenly once I got over the fact that I was chomping on eye balls. And they give you a heaping amount more than enough to share and combined with the other plates became quite filling.Overall, a gorgeous quaint little place with some truly tasty eats. Might be a little crowded but make sure to make reservations. They also have some tasty sangrias. Would recommend for a date night or if you are craving so artisan nibbles.Parking is free and ample across the street at some auto center. I just parked on the street near the gas station and walked. Both were easy to find and convenient
MoreAbsolutely wonderful experience. Fabulous food and excellent service every time we go. I cannot make a suggestion on which dishes to try, because it would imply that I like some more than others. There is no wrong choice to make from the menu.by sure and try the Prosciutto Pudding for dessert, however. incredible mixture of sweet and salty.
