Welcoming atmosphere. You will encounter street salespeople. You will have to haggle. Prices for goods are more than you would pay in the market but still reasonable by USA standards. Great live music by street performers.
Parque Colon, or Columbus Park, is the central square of the Ciudad Colonial historic district of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In its Center stands a statue of Christopher Columbus, in whose honor the square was renamed in 1887. Previously the square was known as Plaza Mayor.Monuments bordering the square include the Catedral de Santa Maria la Menor, Santo Domingos Municipal Palace, and the Palacio Borgella, which once hosted the Dominican Republics Parliament. Calle del Conde, once the thriving commercial heart of Santo Domingo, starts from Parque Colon and runs to the Puerta del Conde. At the beginning of Calle del Conde is a bust of Bartholomew Columbus, Christophers brother and the founder of Santo Domingo.During the colonial period of the 15th century, various buildings were built on the island of Hispaniola, which were the first colonial houses in the entire American Continent. Within these residential constructions the Parque Colón was created, which was called by the name of Plaza Mayor de Santo Domingo, which dates back to 1506, and throughout the years to this day it has undergone various modifications. This was the main entertainment center for the inhabitants of the time, since it gave life and splendor to the town of La Isabela, and its surroundings. The name of Plaza Mayor was given in honor of the Major Commander of the order of Nicolás de Ovando, who arrived in Santo Domingo in 1502. It was named after him even more, since he was in charge of moving the city to the western part of the Ozama River.Previously it was called as Plaza de la Catedral, since a few meters from the square was the Catedral Primada de América. In the center of this park is the statue of Grand Admiral Christopher Columbus pointing north, and it was a creation of the French sculptor E. Gilbert. On February 27, 1887, it was officially inaugurated as Parque Colón, since there was the statue of Columbus.
Great time & many vendors selling goods. Plenty of places surrounding park to eat, take pictures & puck up souvenirs.
Good to visit on early mornings. It gets locked during the day.
Has alot of ption for food, come with money because its pricey, Lovelt landscape and historic things to see.
Beautiful... alot of beautiful people. Theres beautiful museums to explore but u must pay to enter museums
The Colonial Zone is best seen from the Choo Choo Train. The Columbus Park is were the train starts its journey. The park itself is full of history, traditional live music and food. Great place to spend a day in Dominican Republic!
A must if you visit Santo Domingo to get some of the rich culture of this beautiful country. Wear sneakers and comfortable clothes; and get ready to take a lot of amazing pictures. Ps: you can park on the street or find a paid parking lot, cause you will need to walk around.
This Park is like in the center of all, surrounded by beautiful colonial buildings, everything is close by, Calle El Conde is right there it borders one side of the Park , many adjacent restaurants around , entreteinment , good place to be with the family all day, at night is even better, youll have it all here, lodging is right all around this zone, convenient, you just step out of the hotel or wherever you are staying right at the action of all, love this place
This is one of the best place in RD. Full of people from several nations, lots of amusements and good places to find lot types of foods. Its also a historical place, there are also a lot of art and craft things, people doing performances like dancing, singing, even magic tricks, its a really beautiful and full place.
Much see tourist attractions
Beautiful park at the heart of the colonial area. Good restaurants, vibes, historical monuments, and it is always bustling with activities like dances and Music. Just walk around or sit down in one of the restaurants and gets some drinks. You can also take a Chu Chu Colonial train from here and explore the area if you want. It costs about $10/per person. The audio recording tour is in both English and Spanish and last about 45 minutes ride around the nearby streets in the colonial area. Great way to enjoy the city and learn some history.
Take time to explore some of the other historical sites in the area, have a meal at Tribu, food was excellent. There is a 18% govt tax and 10% service fee throughout Santo Domingo.
Beautiful park. We Dominicans call this park the pigeons park.Full of culture, cigars, music and restaurants and coffee shops full of authentic Dominican flavor.I love it! ❤️
Its a beautiful park but, its sad because Christopher Columbus shouldnt be there, he was a criminal, he killed all the locals back then (1492to steal the gold, its a shame for the 🇩🇴 corrupt Dominican government for keeping that criminal there. But anyways the government its just like him, CRIMINALS.
Beautiful place, a lot of history...
Definitely a place with two sides of beauty. By day very cultural and by night on Sundays the lights and tropical heat release to the sound of live local bands. Must go if your by Santo Domingo and in the mood for the real Dominican experience. Also it’s extremely safe thanks to the tourist police.
Pleasant plaza, full of activities and a warm local vibe. Well worth a visit.
The people are awesome and amazing. Always something new and exciting.
Historical place in Santo Domingo. Learned a lot about Christopher Columbus and his family while there. Lots of stores to buy memorabilia too
Great place to visit in Zona Colonia, Santo Domingo. Full of life, restaurants, shops, art galleries, and museums.
Love it. A lot fun
Such a lovely park full of life and music. There I felt all of the magic of being in the Domenican Republic, so many things happening, so much fun and love! People enjoy many events of their life in this park all together and in our short visit we came across many of these events, even a wedding proposal! Cant miss it!
Awesome Historical experience! Love colonial city of Santo Domingo!
Lovely place to go great building tons of people lights feels safe
I absolutely loved this park. Great vibes, scenery, restaurants and even a great statue of Columbus to boot. A must see place!
Beautiful iconic place to enjoy with the family. Historic place of the Dominican Republic. The pigeons make the experience even better. Many characters and talented people around. This place is recommended for tourists, locals, couples, and families with children.
Columbus Park is always bustling with activities. It is an excellent place for people watching.
The salmon was delicious and the french fries were crisp and lightly salted. The location is perfect and you can see in all directions.
Amazing Guides. He spoke English and Spanish. Very informative we loved it & the 3 kids enjoyed it. They are 6 years old..
Nice chilling place looked very historical on some parts, you can even feed the birds
It was a great experience, there is a historic church and Plaza along with the sculpture of Columbus. Lots of people, restaurants around. With bands playing traditional music.
This is definitely a magical place! The vibes and sounds take you back in time. You really get a feel how it mustve been back in the colonial times.I highly recommend visiting this park. Enjoy the sounds, the vibes, and even sit down and drink a cocktail.
Everything around closes early due to curfew. Nice restaurants across this building. We ate apps at the steakhouse at end.
If you love history this place is cool. I found it more interesting without the tour guides.

We had an excellent tour guide who showed us around the tourist zone. The city trains citizens on the history and then they are paid by giving people tours ($50 for Victor Galva Montero who I would recommend!). There are about 2000 cops within the zone because they want to keep tourists safe. We enjoyed our walk through the city with stops at museums, jewelry shops, food, and the chocolate factory!
Great place to be at night. Lots of bars, music, restaurants, very Caribbean lively. Dont miss Jalao, a typical place with local bites great to go with friends, live music across from the Cathedral.
This incredible monument has been completely restored! This place is a must see! Very historic and educational! The documentary film has English captions. There’s an art exhibit in the second floor that displays some really cool paintings.
Wonderful place,I was amazed by the church wish is considered the first church in the Americas, was not able to take a pic inside because it was closed, would have love to take a pic inside!!!
found a beautiful place that most of the stores around promotes Haitians culture that has no point to be promoted at THE FIRST CITY OF ALL AMERICA. Due to was destroyed after taken for more than two decades by HAITIANS Forces back in the day. QUISQUEYANOS are saying is time to stand up today for what is Wright.
I can not write enough about this amazing, so rich in history place! You will love it! If is simply to just walk around, or sit down and enjoy a beer. So much to see and learn. They have events throughout the week at the plaza, and yes there is a lot of panhandlers, and tour guys that will want your business... It is well worth it! But dont spend over $40. Also they WILL take you to stores to shop around in, be aware that they will charge you double the amount, just because your tour guy gets a cut for bringing you in. But other than that, Zona Colonial is a gorgeous place!!
Nice place to seat and have a drink, from there you can see the local people and them happiness and learn some history about American continent
This is definitely a tourist attraction. Nice scenery, plenty of street entertainment. The only downfall is the panhandlers. They want to be your personal tour guides so you can give them money. Being that its an exclusive tourist location security should regulate panhandlers. They had a lot of food, souvenirs and Happy Hour options. You can rent bikes, try samples of chocolate, lots of things to do.
Small park to sit and relax for a short time. Lots of people come for photos before and after birthdays or weddings. Notes Dame de I’incarnation is one of the oldest and very beautiful.
Its a nice public plaza where I like to go and hang in a nice evening. Best place to do some reading and take your affordable coffee from a vending machine in the Nacional Supermarket nearby and any thing else to bite.
Beautiful park with local vendors and musicians filling the air with culture and arts. Great historical area. Highly recommend parking and walking to get the full experience as you will not be able to access by vehicle. Great 24 hour restaurant on the corner at the hotel with a fast of Dominican food. The church at the square is the oldest in the Caribbean and has been visited by Pope John Paul II.
