Chill coffeehouse for single-origin coffee, tea & drinking chocolate with outdoor seating.
I want to give them a higher rating, but my lattes are very inconsistent every time I come. The first time I came I got this vanilla cinnamon type latte and it was absolutely delicious. Every single time I’ve come after that it’s tasted different not the same and not sweet enough to the point where I don’t even drink it, I keep giving them a chance, but keep getting disappointed. Great customer service though and nice outdoor seating.
Get staple of the community, bags of coffee starting at $16 to more treat yourself types. Great selection and customer service too, theyve always graciously answered any of my home espresso making questions. Also a focus on people driven products from bean to cup is really refreshing in a business.
The fact that a 20% tip is added without any type of warning or consent is absolutely mind boggling. As someone who has worked in coffee shops and restaurants for years, I completely understand the importance of tips and I think that people should tip if they had a positive experience but it should never be forced. The fact that they don’t even think people deserve to know that a 20% tip will be added is incredibly rude, shady, and unprofessional. I would’ve never known why my coffee was so expensive if it wasn’t for other reviews. If you’re gonna take 20% tip at least make eye contact with the customers.
Quality coffee but EXPENSIVE af.... $4.14 for a single shot of espresso❗
Cannot say Ill ever be back here again.
This space has a nice area to sit outside, especially if youre trying to do work or catch up with friends. I love that its Latina/woman owned, independent coffee shop! They have drink specials which are unique (and tastycombinations, and delicious coffee.
The tastiest mocha latte Ive had. The barrita did an excellent job and added a heart design (was better before I took the photo). The richness of the chocolate and the taste of the Cinnamon is delicious. I had to really control myself because I just wanted to drink the whole thing quickly it was good. They have some tables outside that you can sit at. Inside is small with a few stools and standing area where you can drink inside. I think most order to-go.
Great coffee, 20% auto tip would be fine if it were clear/ disclosed. I didn’t know until I got the receipt.
Popped in to get an afternoon cortado. Passing through but my drink was good. Plenty of seating options next time by Ill aim to sit and enjoy it.
Always a great spot. Great for dates, working remote, reading a book, or a quick pick me up. Great chocolate, coffee, tea, pastries, and everything in between.
Wonderful cafe near the heart of downtown Durham. Its one is one of three locations in the area, each with its own unique vibe and flavor. My visit was on a lazy, warm July afternoon. It was quiet with only about two or three other patrons scattered about. There was very little seating available inside. However, the large and shaded patio area have plenty of places perch. They did a lovely work to make this area inviting and cozy: expansive views of the Durham skyline in the distance and the beautiful blooming patio sunflowers are awesome. What made this visit extra special was the barista. He went out of his way to accommodating and friendly; taking the time to explain the menu and make suggestions. And since I was fairly new to the area, he spent time filling me on on the city particulars (weather, events, etc.).Its stellar service like this that makes loyal customers. I am definitely putting Cocoa Cinnamon my "must comeback" list...fabulous place.
House-made artisan chocolate decaf mocha! The equal of the best mochas anywhere.Accessible, with a restroom available to customers.Lots of seating in the shade outside. I’m a weenie so I stood at a high top table inside with the air conditioning.
One of my favorite coffee shops! My partner got a DURM fog with macadamia nut milk, and thought it was really tasty. I really liked the orange blossom in it was amazing from the sip I had - if you like London fogs you’ll definitely love this version. I got an iced Dr. Durham latte with double espresso and oat milk and I really enjoyed it! The house made vanilla bean syrup is really good and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the ginger and black lava salt tasted with it.The prices are fair and you definitely get your money’s worth, plus you get to support an independent latina owned coffee shop instead of a big corporate chain. I ordered on their app and my order was ready by the time I got there.
Great place. Great service. Great coffee!
I absolutely love this coffee spot. Super friendly staff and excellent drinks and pastries. The outdoor seating is great and I loved the speciality drinks.
Prime location and authentic coffee shop.
Went here for a afternoon pick me up. They have a pretty good selection. They sell coffee bags, but I think only jay z can afford them. They were $35 a bag.I’d recommend going for just a to go.Good cofffee for sure
I absolutely loved this place! I was passing through town and decided to stop after a friend who grew up in the area told me about it. The baristas were extremely friendly and the coffee was perfect. I got an iced Dr. Durham which had the right (imomilk to espresso ratio and wasn’t too sweet! I’m seeing a lot of comments about how they dislike this place because they add 20% gratuity, but as someone who works in service as well please understand that this is what pays their bills. Most service industry jobs aren’t remotely close to being a livable wage, so before you trek out and get your favorite local coffee only to complain that a 20% tip was added, just keep in that in mind! Service workers are heros. In regards to the vibe, they had so many outdoor seating options either in the shade or in the sun. It made studying a lot less miserable. I wish I lived closer, this place rocks!
Horrible customer service, and ridiculous 20% FORCED tip, on top of asking you for an additional top. The owner has addressed this issue with a pretty poor explanation for it. There are many solutions to the issues small businesses have during a pandemic rather than forcing customers to pay 20% for non-service (it’s a coffee stand you order at similar to the process at Starbucks). The customer service is also horrible.
I just randomly stopped by today— just now. I know nothing about coffee except black straight up it’s intimidating to order coffee when you don’t know anything about it. The two girls behind the bar were great they surprised me with the coffee shops signature coffee. It was fabulous my only regret is I wish I had gotten a bigger one. This will be a regular stop on my way home to Apex maybe one day I will be able to sit and enjoy the outside at one of there bistro tables, thanks girls!!
Coffee is ok, however they add AUTOMATICALLY 20% gratuity. If we want to add a tip, it should NOT be done automatically for customers.
Ordered two specialty lattes (harvest and mocha somethingand cinnamon pull-apart bread! Yum! Atmosphere inside was amazingly cozy. Outdoor area was rustic and pet friendly with tons of sitting room to enjoy weather on a sunny day.
I’m going with 4 stars. The drinks that we got we did not enjoy but I think that was because we got things we had not tried before. I think if I would have just stuck with a latte or something it would’ve been great.
Decent coffee, cool atmosphere, parking available as well with outdoor seating. Be careful when purchasing, I found out afterwards that they automatically select gratuity options on your behalf during purchasing which was shocking; I’m not sure why.. I would go back to try a chai which they didn’t have in stock
Coffee was great and the outdoor seating was perfect for a sunny day. Staff is very friendly, definitely coming back.
I had a great experience at Cocoa Cinnamon. I came from Raleigh to purchase some Little Waves coffee beans, which my husband and I just discovered and LOVE. I grabbed a drink (or twowhile I was there. Savannah took my order and even stepped around the counter to give me advice on which coffee beans to buy. They were very friendly and helpful and definitely made my experience more enjoyable.
I tried this place after hearing many good things about it but unfortunately the coffee and the overall experience didn’t live up to the hype. The Americano I ordered was mediocre at best but my biggest point of contention was the 20% “automatic gratuity” that was included in the order. There was no signage indicating this and it was only mentioned as the cashier mumbled it under their breath as they spun the screen around for me to sign for the purchase. Dishonest and questionable to say the least.
One of my favorite coffee shops! The Wonder Menu is delicious - the La Frida is AMAZING - and the snacks available are very good. The staff is very friendly and helpful, including helping me get my coffee out to the table when Im carting my enormous baby around! Right now, they have outside seating with real cups, which is very pleasant. I like the planters as well. The only thing I wish theyd change is not adding a charge for milk substitutes. I know its usual for coffee shops, but it penalizes people for being unable to digest dairy, which seems a bit against their ethos. Bean Traders down in south Durham does not add a fee for non-dairy milks, and it is very much appreciated.
I do not understand why this place was so highly rated, we had a frustrating experience. Waited in line for 10 minutes standing directly at the register with no one taking our order. I understand they may be busy with online orders but the four employees bustling around in front of us didn’t even acknowledge our existence for an uncomfortably long time. After ordering two separate hot chocolates for $15 (WOW EXPENSIVEwe waited another 30 minutes for our order. When we finally got the order it was cold and it wasn’t even made correctly. The staff offered to remake it but we didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes just to ultimately be disappointed. Tasted mediocre at best. I would not come back here and I would not recommend it to anyone else. Also, point of contention, they automatically add 20% gratuity AND have a tip jar AND ask you to add a tip on your card at the register. What exactly am I tipping for when the service is not friendly, not fast, and the product is not made well?
The best espresso I have had in Durham, no, NC, no east coast... it is fan freaking tastic. I dont know why some people complain about the staff, they were great. As friendly as required for the job. Looking forward to buying some freshly roasted, award winng beans once my supply runs low.I assume if you complain about customer service right now, you are probably an entitled Karen. Go to a coffee shop for the coffee, not the undying adoration of the staff.
Lovely coffee shop with a diverse selection of beverages. Used to chill out here a few times before the pandemic.
Sweet spot for coffee or tea. Lots of outdoor seating with shade and fans, so okay on the hottest day. I loved my hibiscus iced tea and everyone else enjoyed iced coffee.
Tastes just as good as mentors u moved away and came back. Loving thats theres 3 locations now. I highly recommend a dirty chai with oat milk.
Great local coffee shop with light fare, open for takeout during corona. Also sells whole bean coffee too! They always have really interesting roasts and teas.
Happy to support a Latina co-owned and woman-forward coffee shop on my visit to Durham! ✊🏾I loved my iced amuleto latte and my sister said her non-diary caramelo was delicious!
I love Cocoa Cinnamon and have since Bike Coffee! Their Durham locations are creative, fun spaces for coffee, snacks and meeting friends or reading a book or just people watching. Their Little Waves Coffee Roasters coffee is delicious (and sustainable). I also love and appreciate how thoughtful they are with all aspects of their business - from the locations, buildings, artwork, staffing, public communications, and products!
Nice place for coffee. The cafe is bit small, but they have nice tables outside too :- We ordered mocha-ish latte and ice cold brew which were really good. The mocha-ish latte could have been bit sweeter.. I expected more chocolate after reading their description.Since they have other branches in durham and chapel hill, I would definetely like to check out those too.I also thought their enamel pins were cute :-)
Amazing place to just chill around, working on your laptop (free WiFi btw), or even meet up with friends. I love the Guadalajara -hot cocoa w/ an optional, slightly chilled whipped cream- perfect for a cold morning.
Top notch coffee, rump cake, vibes & people watching. I love this place. Plenteous indoor & outdoor seating options. Best sipping chocolate I’ve ever had outside Paris. Rich seasonal menu.Once we shared a table with two sweet ladies that ended up coming to our wedding! Thanks, CC for attracting quality humans.
Great coffee with a cute and comfortable atmosphere. Parking is tough at busy times with all the nightlife places nearby. There isnt much seating inside but its comfortable and there are a few work surfaces. The covered outdoor seating is very pleasant when the weather cooperates. Great little coffee shop!
The inside of this coffee shop is much bigger than its outside would suggest. The decor is really interesting and it had a lively vibe as opposed to some shops that are more quiet than a library. The baristas were quick, fast, friendly, and very helpful. I got a latte and you can tell that the vanilla syrup is homemade. I would highly suggest this place!
I fell in love with this place while on vacation to NC. They are very quirky and friendly and they have amazing drinks! I got the thing I can’t pronounce with the lavender in it!!! So good!!! And they put my logo on it ;)
I am a coffee shop lover through and through! Every trip I make, I hunt out unique and local ones to the area! I absolutely loved Cocoa Cinnamon! An amazing indoor and outdoor area! The customer service was excellent as well as my menu choices, which were the Al Mokha and the Mound, which is this amazing ball of deliciousness - granola, coconut, chocolate chips, all mixed into this awesome little ball of greatness! Stop through this sweet spot! You wont regret it!
Good coffee and good vibes, a cozy environment where even if you don’t know anyone it’s nice being packed in with a bunch of strangers. One of my treat coffee shops since I’ve lived in durham. Staff is generally friendly but today my service was poor- woman at the register was abrupt, condescending and rude. Not what I’m used to here!
An older remodeled auto shop turned in to a coffee shop on the corner, pretty neat set up. The coffee I ordered was great, Would Definitely go back when Im in the area
Delicious cozy little coffee shop. I love the atmosphere in there. I cant remember now exactly which latte I got, but it was fantastic. They also have a very entertaining sign about the table sizes.
We were visiting NC for a few days ! We stopped by.The cashier was so rude and impolite ! There were few chocolate croissants she took them all from the shelf then I asked if she is gonna put more ! She said my boss asked me to save them for her!!!!!! Not a simple apology?!Interestingly the supervisor ignored us and her behavior! We asked for forks and knife, she threw a few to us and was like we don’t have enough!!!It was the first time I have ever seen this horrible customer service. She was trying to add caramel to my coffee, she squeeze half of it on the counter! We got our pastries in a broken plate too! Nice!Isn’t it hazardous?! Safety issues!I didn’t expect all of that !We didn’t feel welcome at all !
Very nice place! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I love that they are VEGAN FRIENDLY, and the fact that they REDUCE WASTE!! (My Iced Quad Espresso came with no lid or straw! ... Save our Planet and Save the Sea TurtlesCheck out their Community Coffee program!
Stopped by right before Hurricane Floyds brought all the rain in. Had been eyeing this place for awhile and loved the ambiance! It was bright and cheerful with a helpful staff. I ordered a unique drink and cant wait to try more on the menu (also going to try the famous churros next time as well). Prices were a little high, but the usual as any cafe would be. Love supporting local shops like this!!
This is by far my favorite coffee shop in Durham, let alone North Carolina. Not only is the ambiance welcoming and original, but the baristas know what theyre doing and the drinks are top-notch.If you want, they offer the baseline coffee and espresso drinks, but on top of that have a variety of hand pour coffees and a slew of original espresso and chocolate beverages. They seem to have spent a lot of time researching and experimenting with spices, because they offer some drinks that work amazingly that most people would never think to try.As far as the establishment goes, they have both individual and communal seating as well as a lot of outdoor seating. If I ever think seating is going to be an issue (it can get a bit crowded indoors on cold daysI go to their other location on Chapel Hill Rd.
