Coco Ocean Resort & Spa in Banjul
Description
Cool hotel and the food is nice too.
Very beautiful hotel, restaurant perfect. However, room service not ok, garden not clean and no payment by credit card !!!!
MoreMy friends and I had a good time at their Sunday brunch. The staff are friendly and ready to help. You can also enjoy the beach and pool!!
MoreSadly a beautiful resort just left to deteriorate. Service is amazing and location is right on the beach. Just sad about the lack of care for the resort.
MoreI have actually never stayed at the hotel but have used the Spa, Pool and restaurants several times. A very nice and welcoming place with one of the best customer service in The Gambia which is hard to come by whether you visiting or live in the country.Food prices are a bit on the high side but comparable to other leading hotels in the area. Coco Ocean is also a very family friendly hotel for those traveling with young children.
MoreGreat dining and massage experience. The ambiance is exquisite
Beautiful the best in Gambia:::Had a great time for my birthday, place was clean and the employees were great, issues with Wi-Fi and water was out on two days we had to wait on repairs that should not happen at a high end hotel.. not many breakfast choices.. not a lot of info or brochures on tours and places to eat etc. I will visit next birthday to see the upgrades and changes made. I wish the restaurant had tasty meals as well.
MoreWonderful architecture and first class scenery
Lovely place, nice ambience. The staff are very thoughtful and polite. The beach is just behind the resort. Enjoyed my stay.
MoreHave been having our breakfast at Saffran(the fine dining restaurantgreat fruit and salad buffet. Freshly baked bread rolls and danish pastries. Followed by a freshly cooked breakfast of your choice and tea or coffee. Fresh fruit jucies, yoghurt and muesli also available. Try the local baobab juice which is also very good. Told by local friends that Sunday buffet usually great. Other eateries nearby so looking forward to trying these.
MoreVery old and run down hotel! We were extremely disappointed and shocked when we saw the hotel and the room. Huge investment in necessary. The food was nice but that’s about it. The beach dirty and the management appalling. Sunprime Tamala on the other hand was wonderful. Next time only there.
MoreWe visited Gambia for the very first time and stayed at Coco Ocean!Weve had an amazing experience and the hotel was first class. All staff were attentive, friendly and happy to assist with all our requests. The management team speak to all guests on a daily basis ensuring that everything is OK and that there are no issues.Exceptionally clean, lovely food, great selection of drinks, an all round fabulous hotel. We dont normally leave reviews but felt the hotel and staff warranted a great review. Will definitely be booking again.Wayne & Julie
MoreLovely resort, staff all outstanding~helpful, courteous and willing to do whatever it takes to make your stay enjoyable. Great food/wines and a wonderful environment to relax, be pampered & enjoy the sun! Having stayed elsewhere in The Gambia, we would definitely only return to Coco Ocean, as we were made to feel so special & had such a good time. Our thanks especially to Peter, Mariana, Francis, Shultman & Jayboy who spolit us….see you next year for sure!!
MoreAbsolutely amazing full body massage 🌟👌🏽 The staff were welcoming and attentive and the services provided were fabulous. A relaxing environment inside and enjoyed an extra bonus chilling outside on the beach. I highly recommend
MoreWe booked a spa visit prior arriving in The Gambia after seeing finding it online. You will not be disappointed. The place is beautiful. A calm and relaxing reception and main area with soft music playing, seating and pool.My wife booked us in for a Full body aromatherapy massage which did not disappoint. Felt absolutely amazing after and could of fell asleep. Will be re booking next year.
MoreWe stayed 2 nights while on our Senegal and The Gambia holiday excursion. From the ferry at Banjul to the hotel was about an hour in traffic.Resort is right on beach and is a large resort. It has 4 pools and was decorated nicely for Xmas. Staff was helpful and very friendly. We ate breakfast and dinner at the resort, thoroughly enjoying each and every meal. Next time we spend more time on-site instead of going on tour.
MoreOne if the best in The Gambia. Spacious rooms, good food, friendly staff. But the practice of guest having to order breakfast is time wasting. The practice of asking visitors to guests to leave their ID at the reception is archaic and too intrusive. It is supposed to be a 5star hotel but on arrival with my team, there was no staff to help us collect our bags from the entrance to the reception. Too strange for a 5star. Or is it for COVID? I can tell you No because I saw staff not wearing nose masks. Architecture is unique and the environment is refreshingly green
MoreSuch a lovely place and definitely the most beautiful hotel in the whole Senegambia and Bakau area! The Spa offers decent prices and the the service overall is really friendly and helpful. Always a pleasure staying at the nice pool!
MoreNever again. The food was disgusting, and the service was horrible. Definitely nothing in common with a 5 stars hotel. The waiter had no idea what was available from the menu so we had to change our order 3 times as nothing we wanted was available. The ladyfish they served us was smelling really bad and the meat ( tajinewas hard. But the worst was definitely the wine , soo bad quality. The one they served us it was not on the list, and it wasnt at all worthy the price we paid. Never ever again.
MoreNice pools , beautiful view, loved that this was yaya favorite hotel. But room was unkempt. Night manager was rude. Too many inexcusable non sense rules about not being able to walk around the resort at night. Will never come here again.
MoreRooms are wired, hot water isnt easy to get in the bathrooms.. Dont go there if you intend a longer stay
MoreCoco ocean is one of the best hotels/resorts in Gambia. The view is breathtaking and it’s located along the beach front. This hotel definitely has some of the best masseuses. The staff!! the breakfast spread!!! the rooms!!! Everything is top notch. Highly recommended as for honey mooners
MoreThe Room was beautiful the staff working working on the ground and catering fantastic, reception staff needs training in welcoming and hospitality, especially the assistant manager not the manager who book the room. I was badly insulted and spent the night crying in my room feeling anger that if I was white i would not of being insulted by this bold head black man letting me know that that the cost of my room was not right as it was a complementary discount, as I had my wedding book, and pair for 50 people 24 of whom fly from 🇬🇧 and I paid good money fro the beach wedding also the hall and this man made me feel worthless I had horse and carriage fir my usher and bridesmaids &usher can u imagine this man shouting at me and my Gambian Husband telling is there is a mistake, I ask him three time if he is trying to embarrass me and he looked into space as if I was not there, when I told my friend John Barnes he agreed that he would of never speak to a white woman like that. But apart from that Me. Borrows and his fantastic staff gave me a beautiful wedding day absolutely fabulous food and service. I am requesting that man be removed from dealing with customer, he’s giving the hotel a bad reputation. Wedding day was my birthday 26. February 2020
MoreWe stayed at the Coco ocean for a week. The Hotel is located on a very nice location and the exterior grounds are well maintained and very clean. We booked a royal suite with private terrace and private swimming pool, the suite was very large offering a small kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a very large living room with dining table and a nice bedroom.Overall the whole room and terrace / swimming pool really are in desperate need of a renovation / makeover (may other buildings as wellfor this daily rate I expect a way better room condition.-Many window locks are broken so the windows can be opened from the outside with ease-The small hotel safe was not bolted to anything so it could be carried away.-There are many cracks under the kitchen door, around the main door etc. a perfect entry for mosquitoes ( and we had many of them in the rooms)-The bed provides a mosquito-net but its not mosquito proof until we sprayed the whole thing with insect repellent.- Tiles on terrace are broken and have sharp edges , beware !- Sharp edges on the chairs , used down furniture.Privacy:We did book the suit for the private pool and terrace but during the whole day gardeners, cleaner and other staff are literally climbing around and over the building reducing privacy and rest to almost zero - and all want to help you - ( for a tip)Is it not possible to clean the pool and water the plants etc. within one or 2 hours a day ?The rooms cleaning staff was excellent ! Friendly and helpful when needed!Good service in the restaurant at the beach , great food but very often the white wine and beers are served warm, they will provide an ice-bucket on request but this is just a fix, it seems to happen a lot as aothers complained about warm beer as wel.Service at the breakfast was horrible , waiting a long time for service, twice the coffee was not available and we waited 45 mins for our egg dishes , the waiter apologized 3 times and it was not even a busy day, tables , glasses and plates are not really clean, mediocre buffet, cheese and meat options often not available and not refilled. NOT what i am used to at a 5 star hotel this must be improved !Very nice guest relations lady really made my birthday a success, however the reception lady never smilled at all and did not give you a welcome feeling.Car service provided is very chaotic. The cars where NEVER on time as booked and they made us share the car twice while still charging the full rate to both parties. So the hotel is certainly nice but a lot of work needs to be done to here to reach a 5 star standard again.
MoreBeautiful hotel lovely scenery but zafaran restaurant, near the fountain, was horrible, poor management and very bad service. We waited 45 mins for them to bring us the drinks menu and my sister and her husband contracted food poising after the meal.
MoreThis resort is paradise. Beach was beautiful. We had lunch out on the deck near the beach. Food and atmosphere was delicious. I definitely would love to go back to this little bit of heaven.
MoreHigh standard spa with a lovely team, that offers services such as 1 hour hammam and 1 hour Swedish massage for very reasonable prices (package at 45 euros). Beautiful natural space among palm trees and some monkeys. Restaurant in front of the sea. Nice hair saloon, where I could have a shampoo, brushing and straightening of my long hair for the equivalent of 12,50 euros only. A hotel that I highly recommend, where you feel welcome and peaceful :)Thanks for your quality services!
MoreOne of the very best chalet I have ever used. Also, well located by the beach. Very friendly hotel staff and a reasonably good menu. When lodging there, remember to bring along your mosquito repellant balm if you intend to stay outdoors in the evening.
MoreThis place has huge potential but so neglected. I put beautiful photos but beware of details in the rooms: smelly pillows had to ask for new ones that were still smelly, restaurant service almost inexisting , you better bring cash, the PoS doesnt work, the kitchen viewed from outside looks so dirty, they should invest in towels, what they give you is just so used and smelly. Yet, the view is amazing and the building impressive with an amazing garden.
MoreAmazing venue with friendly staff. Wouldnt recommend it for lunch as the dishes were pricy and not of great quality. The pool is very beautiful and the hotel has a private beach. Having lunch doesnt give access to the pool even when there are no other clients..
MoreBeautiful place and the artist there has talent. Lovely people, food and deco. A bit pricey to stay but the food is delicious and hygiene is 5star
MoreReally Nice place to stay. If you turn right on the beach you will find the monkey forest. And a local lady sellig fruits which are TOTALLY DELICIOUS. best mango ever!!
MoreAbsolutely beautiful hotel. Our room Was AMAZING !!! Staff wonderful beach beautiful.Very Morroccan themed. Wouldnt know you were in the Gambia.Very relaxed will definitely stay here again.
MoreCoco Ocean is a beautiful and quaint resort in The Gambia. Arguably the best hotel in the country. It lives up to the expectation with the spacious rooms, lots of amenities options, picturesque beach front and architecture, and very courteous and happy staff. I will definitely be visiting again soon. Keep in mind that the cost of meals can often times be pricey. However it is well cooked.
MoreThis hotel classes itself as a 5 star.... and is meant to be the best in the Gambia. Yes, the beach location is great although some of the rooms are a little tired, wifi very unreliable and the swimming pool set up unsatisfactory; But, most of the staff are very friendly and willing to help and an extremely positive element of the hotel facilities. However, due to the theft of eight items of clothing - seven dresses and one long jacket (some irreplaceable), from our locked hotel room on our last night, New Years Eve, and most importantly the disappointing and lethargic reaction of the hotel management and to some extent the tour operator, Gambia Experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. My experience was completely ruined. I reported the items missing on 7th January 2019 on our return to the UK but since then have been totally frustrated by the lack of interest expressed by the new hotel manager, Felix Von Bodman, who was appointed in October 2018 to improve the facilities and running of the place...... hmmmm, a long way to go I feel.Im not a complainer and dont like posting negative reviews unless really necessary but I have now waited six weeks for reassurance that the matter was being investigated by the hotel and the police. To be fair, Gambia Experience (owned by Serenity Holidaysdid initially respond and forwarded my emails (which included a fully descriptive list and some photos of the missing itemsto the hotel but have now suggested I communicate with the hotel direct. Which is all very well and good but troubleshooter Felix Von Bodman seems to have vanished. He doesnt respond to any of my emails asking for confirmation that an investigation is being/will be held and to inform me of the outcome.I requested a police report for insurance purposes and eventually received a document via Gambia Experience which said: "Items missing: one black jacket, I agry (?!?!chiffon and one white tie". Totally inaccurate and of no use as far as the insurance claim is concerned. Which Gambia Experience knew but has since taken no steps to rectify.I have warned Gambia Experience on numerous occasions that I will have no choice but to publicise my unfortunate experience on social media if I dont feel the matter is being taken seriously. But it seems nobody cares. Now my main aim is to ensure others dont have to go through what I did.So, if you decide to stay here, be very careful with your personal items because it seems the hotel doesnt give a damn. I notice another guest also posted (July 2018about a robbery from their room whilst they slept - with once again a very poor response from the hotel management. Its a shame because the hotels beautiful location is superb. The staff really try their best but due to lack of training and understaffing they struggle which means the service and standard of food is sometimes lacking. But the most upsetting element of this whole experience is that no-one seems to have done anything about trying to find out who stole my clothes. Or cares one jot that they seem to have a thief amongst their staff. I also feel that Gambia Experience, as the tour operator, is culpablebecause they recommend Coco in their brochure. They also have a local representative, Joyce, based in offices very close to the hotel so there is no reason why she could not have stepped in on behalf of Gambia Experience. But zilch from her either. So if youre thinking about booking at this hotel, think twice. Be prepared to be treated with little respect by hotel management; dont expect much customer service and most importantly, dont expect to go home with all your possessions!
MoreGreat spot for a day trip and beach time. My family visited the location twice during the holidays and loved the beach. The pools were nice, but we were not guest so we couldn’t go in. The food off the menu was good, we avoided the lunch buffet, but many people enjoyed it.
MorePlus:1good rooms2food is good3beach location great4Spa excellent5on site shop extremely basic6an incline to walk back from beach (could be problematic for someor healthy for othersMinus:1not a lot of entertainment2Not located near to nightlife e.g. main strip so you have to take taxis3higher price4turn down service staff can be a pain but you can get them to not do.
MoreWe came from the United states on a tour of the Gambia. The hotel had a nice breakfast, beach and scenery. HOWEVER.....we had bed bugs and got bit up. Our hot water did not work even after complaining. There was other unknown bugs in our room. The dinner was not that good either. Great customer service though
MoreBeautiful resort. Pretty gardens and chic rooms. The food in the 2 restaurants is of good quality. Things that dont work well are the bad credit card machines that dont work most of the time and the clients are forced to produce cash to settle their bills. And the Wi-Fi connection that is lousy.
MoreWonderful atmosphere, very natural. Warm people and very safe community. Just make certain to hold an insect repellent spray, trust me on this one..
MoreDefinitely the nicest hotel in The Gambia. The rooms were large and comfortable. The hotel has a great location overlooking the beach. There are two nice restaurants and plenty of pools. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Great place to stay.
MoreCoco Ocean is located in the Senegambia Area of Gambia - 30 minutes drive from Banjul/ 20 mins from the International Airport. One of the best hotels in The Gambia- lovely white Moroccan riad style structures, lovely Deco very classic hotel just by the beach. Perfect for a weekend getaway. Absolutely love the Spa Area - the Hammam Bath is really great and affordable. The only disappointment for me was the food, it appears that there has been a change in management and chefs- quality of the food is poor, advisable to go to the many restaurants in the Senegambia area... The WiFi was surprisingly good.. All in All, coco Ocean remains one of my best hotels in West Africa, I love the quiet serene environment and the attention from the staff, Beware of the monkeys and mosquitos tho 😁 Also make sure your keep your valuables safe, DO NOT LEAVE MONEY IN YOUR ROOM....
MoreTravel agency told that the one week stay would include a buffee breakfast. After all Coco Ocean hotel should be the fanciest hotel in Gambia. Instead there were very limited ala carte breakfast. Each day there where some shortage of the items on the menu, ie cold meats, fresh fruits, muffins. And what was the funniest thing one morning the waitress said that only two classes of juice are included. There were +34`C. Moreover the ordered foods were not even close to what they should have been. For example english muffing was round shape toast and continental breakfast included only bacon, potatoes and beans. Everything else was missing.Bed sheets were worn out and there was pencil markings on them. Pictures below. It was not a 5star hotel for us. Only ***
MoreTruly one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen or been on. Hotel room is quite comfortable although not very modern amenities (TV was not very clear), however most likely that wont be your number one reason for being there. Internet speeds are OK given that generally connectivity is not great in The Gambia. Pool was great too. Staff were very warm and friendly.Room service menu was a bit limited with not too many options. That was a big disappointment for me. Also, if you are paying with your credit card they charge 3% surcharge and the connection was very unstable failing at least 5 times in my 2 week stay. In check out had to resort to paying in cash.
Morethe coco ocean resort has the potential to be a great hotel to stay in but is very far from being a four or five star hotel. The quality of accommodation, service, food, excursions , cleanliness and general standards are inconsistent and vary according to whos dealing with it. I had a great meal in one of their restaurants one day and the next day the same meal was awful - their excuse was that it was a different chef. the wild life excursion to Senegal, costing over £70, where you are driven around in an open top jeep for hours, only to end up seeing a few animals. when we complained we were told we were lucky because some tourists had not seen any animals at all. I would like the hotel to do well but they have to pay attention to details and the complaints, of which there were many, and not just from my group. anyway, i have just got back and thought i get this off my chest
MoreOscar, the new chef from Spain, is perfect. He was generously taking shots with me and my friends. This place makes you feel like your in another country. Best food Ive had in Gambia. Only challenger is Ngala.
MoreVery enjoyable lunch and afternoon by the sea. Foil wrapped butter and absence of drink coasters rather detracted from an otherwise 5 star environment. Food and service excellent.
MoreThe best hotel in The Gambia famous for its prestige and luxury. I personally love the Moroccan suites with excellent interior decorations.
MoreThe best, most beautiful, relaxing hotel in the Gambia. The Standard rooms here feel like the Luxury rooms elsewhere and there are Chalet, Suites right up the the super luxury Presidential Suites. The grounds are a feast for the soul and the restaurants cater all your indulgences and the more. The day after the restaurants i would recommend being pampered at the Sauna, Hamam or just a workout at the Gym no review will do this place justice go see for yourself you will not regret one second of your stay apart from when you have to leave this place
MoreCoco Ocean is an amazingly beautiful, high class hotel right by the sea in the Gambia. I am lucky to be photographing weddings there for some really great Gambian, Sierra Leone and English brides and grooms. I particularly love the Royal Suite with its own private swimming pool and garden area. The food is great too. xx Elaine Reel Life Photos
