33 King St, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8JD, Machinga
Modern French restaurant with notable wine list, flower-filled conservatory and log fire.
Outstanding food outstanding service! The portions are perfectly sized so you can reasonably eat a starter, main, and side per person or share a few starters for your table. I ordered the duck and it was perfectly cooked to medium as I ordered. The green beans were wonderfully crisp and complimented both of our meals nicely. The starters were delicious, I highly recommend the scallops and heirloom tomatoes. Certainly order a cocktail as well, the presentation is so fun and whimsical. Otherwise, the service was exceptional. Angelo did a wonderful job especially considering he was the only server in the upstairs room that evening. Request Angelo and enjoy a relaxing meal!
Five star restaurant from the moment you walk in. The vibe is romantic and gorgeous. The staff very welcoming and professional, shout out to Marcus! The food was exceptional!
This was a culinary experience first and foremost. The decor is very “Grammable” as are the dishes. I had the Cornish Stone Bass, Chorizo, Bell Pepper, Beurre Blanc followed by a dark chocolate dessert (Jivara Chocolate & Raspberry). Had a great sounding name but all I cared about was how it tasted. It tasted great. When people stop talking you know the food is good. It’s pricey but worth the tag, The staff are not just friendly, they’re attentive and entertaining. I recommend it if you really want to push the boat out and celebrate or want to impress the “other half”.
Great venue and setting. Went for my wife’s birthday and the food was excellent. Also have an extensive wine list and helpful staff to recommend wines. I’d recommend
Very nice experience at clos maggiore, i love the decoration inside. No matter the service, food quality and atmosphere all perfect.
My favourite Restaurant. Excellent food, great wine selection, super service with care and attention. Venue with ceiling white flowers makes it like entering a fantasy world.
Went to Clos Maggiore for its pre theatre menu as I had tickets for Dear Evan Hansen. Food was pretty good but what was truly stellar was its service. Camilo did a fantastic job tending to our table and gave us great recommendations. The room where we sat was beautiful. The only thing I would skip is coffee (for 6.90£ it wasn’t worth it).
Excellent service and lovely vibe. Food was delicious but unfortunately french cuisine gives small portions which can be underwhelming.
We had the set lunch menu. Unfortunately the rumb steak was nearly impossible to chew through. It was equally hard to cut through with the knife. When the waiter asked how it was, I told her this. She turned quiet as she had never had a negative feedback before and didnt know how to respond. She left and that was it. No apology. They even charged me extra for that steak which I sent partly back. That said, the other waiters, and the ambience in general was really nice. So was the dessert and starters. But the main course and the lack of response took away the joy. I just expected better from a place like this.I would not come back, and would recommend to go somewhere else as this is an expensive place (5.5£ for tap water in a bottleand Im sure there are better alternatives in the same price range.
So beautiful I almost cried a little! This is definitely a romantic destination restaurant for people who are looking for aesthetics and fine service. The venue was smaller than I expected (which made it more intimate), but every bit as stunning: the fairy light studded foliage, the mirrors and the sky lights... just a dreamy, ethereal space. And the staff went above and beyond to make sure our evening was special. The menu is limited, and the food, whilst fine quality haute cuisine, would not have earned a 5* from me on its own. Seriously good, but not culinary perfection - wouldnt be worth the price without the service and ambience. Plus the wine markup is brutal! However, as a romantic dining experience, I think youd struggle to top this in London. This is one is for a sparkly, luxurious experience rather than for hardcore foodies. Disclaimer: the food is in no way bad, very good in fact, but if thats what your primary concern is, there are other places that do it far better. Come here to propose, not for the tasting menu.
Stunning food in a romantic, relaxing environment that made for a perfect wedding anniversary. Wonderful service too.
We had a wonderful time celebrating our engagement with dinner at Clos Maggiore. We had been wanting to go for a long while and were waiting for a worthy occasion. The intimate setting and ambiance were befitting of its status as Londons most romantic destination restaurant. However, we weren’t expecting the spectacular venue to be eclipsed by the wonderful food, wine and service we experienced. All the dishes from starters to desert were sublime (the scallop starter and lobster main pictured were particularly memorable - exquisite dishes executed to perfection). The white wine recommended by our charming sommelier Natalia was truly unique with distinctive notes of coconut. Marco the polished maitre de was considerate and thoughtful- he understood our aspirations for the evening and went out of his way to offer a personalised dining experience. The other team members (Jules, Camillo and Celinawere all warm, welcoming, refined yet humorous. All in all a magical experience, so much so that we decided not to wait so long for our next visit and before leaving we booked to go again in a couple of weeks for a pre-theatre meal!
What a beautiful place in the middle of London! Amazing food and impeccable service. The steak tartare is a must have!Hands down, one of my best meals in the city this year.
We spent our anniversary here. The premises are beautiful, the waitresses are top notch. It should be taken into account that two people will not eat here for less than €200. The minus was that the waiter did not ask us if we would like a side dish with the main dish ☹️
The fabulous experience with delicious cuisine, amazing atmosphere, and great service! It’s also a good place to take some photos. Highly recommend people visit here.I and my friend had lunch set, ordering starters crabs radish and scallops, main dishes lamb, and dessert with something strawberry champagne soup as well as Vanilla Cream Brûlée.The scallops are fresh and the lamb is tender. Crabs and radish tastes refreshing. Desserts are good as well.
Wine list rivals War and Peace in length, great quality too. Food was great, and the atmosphere is unforgettable. I can recommend an evening here. And when I say evening, I mean it. Plan for the meal to last 2.5+hrs, which isn’t a negative - just saying, plan accordingly
Unfortunately was too late for the tasting menu as we had the last sitting at 9:45 ish….The a la carte menu did not disappointScallops were out of this worldThe chicken main was on another level !! I have never had chicken quite like it ! How chicken could be so flavoursome I do not know !!The dessert …. I can’t remember because I had one too many glasses of delicious wine !Impeccable formal service, amazing hard working teamThank youDefinitely recommend for a special occasionMake sure you have a table in the conservatory
Most romantic restaurant in London. The decor, ambiance and service were all on point. The meal itself was delicious too. They accommodated my vegetarian wife’s diet and she also loved her meal. Located in a trendy neighborhood that’s great to walk at before or after the meal.
Had a nice and lovely dinner here a month ago, service was really excellent! My husband and I were jetlagged and didn’t have much of an appetite so we ordered ala carte instead of the set menus and they very kindly split our main course for us without us even asking for it. Food was good, and my only gripe is that we were sat in a very cramped and awkward corner that barely fits the table and chairs despite already making the reservations weeks in advance. It’s pricey as well but it is obviously a special occasion place so just brace yourself for those prices
It was wonderful! The food was really good and staff were very friendly! I will definitely coming back!
In a word: Beautiful! Delicious food, beautifully cooked and presented, in a beautiful setting with beautiful service.Effortlessly classy and elegant, from the moment you step in you know youre in for a treat. As downstairs and the conservatory were fully booked, i was allocated a table upstairs. The room had wood panelling, white table clothing, very comfortable chairs and armchairs and a beautifully decorated ceiling, almost giving the impression of dining al fresco. Both white bread with onion seeds and brown bread with olives, as well as the butter, were really good. The beef tartare, chicken and chocolate dessert were delicious and beautifully presented. My waiter for the day, Nick, was superb as well as their sommelier Jules. Special mention to the truly amazing selection of wines. Extraordinary!A beautiful and romantic place well woth a visit.
Very romantic restaurant! The food, drinks, and service were amazing! The decor is beautiful. We did the pre-theater menu and had an amazing meal.
Lovely! Lovely! Lovely! This place is amazing, the welcome greeting very accommodating, the decor is absolutely beautiful with courtyard perfect for this season. Would highly recommend to my guests. Delicious food and decent menu option. Fantastic!! Pictures speaks themselves.
Excellent food and service, truly a great place to celebrate. Lovely ambience in the room. I’ve been to a few higher priced restaurants in London but Clos Maggiore is one of the best. My partner and I loved it so much, we will come back. The mushroom risotto is to die for
I love their wine selection. The food was great. I specifically love the scallops and their mashed potato side dish. The staff were friendly, wonderful experience when visiting London.
had the central table in the flower room which made the whole experience much better.really good food, especially beef tartaredefinitely would recommend
Having read about Clos Maggiore and the various accolades it’s been awarded over the years, this is the first time I’ve actually eaten here. The restaurant is situated in Covent Garden and looks deceivingly small from the outside. Staff are warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable about the menu, as they should be. I requested a table in the conservatory, undoubtably the place you’ll want to be as it’s probably one of the most instagrammed dining areas in London, and with good reason. The menu is varied, while not extensive, but what they do, they do very well. I started with the Scallops which were excellent, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of truffle so as not to overpower the fish. My partner had the Goats cheese and beetroot salad which, I’m told, was also very good (although she did have a little food envy when she tasted mine). We then followed with the beef short rib, served with red wine jus and bone marrow, which I couldn’t fault and the chicken breast with mousseline, with side orders of the truffle mash potato (heavenlyand the broccoli with sesame seeds. To finish we opted for the Valrhona chocolate dessert, a delicate chocolate and coffee mousse dish which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Service is quick and polite, never intrusive. The only thing I can fault is the difficulty I had in contacting the restaurant to confirm our booking, several calls that went unanswered and a voicemail left that wasn’t returned. Apart from this, highly recommended
celebrated valentine’s day here; can confirm it’s the most romantic restaurant in london!it was honestly one of the best dining experiences i’ve had. food and drinks were both superb, and the interiors were just wow.
Only my second visit to this wonderful restaurant and I left wondering why. The lunch menu is great value, we particularly enjoyed the salmon starter, a wonderfully fresh and imaginative dish. Superb food and service in a wonderful space, myself and my girlfriend had a fabulous time here. Thank you
Went here after an engagement proposal and the food and everything in-between was perfect. The staff catered for everything and explained anything which was unfamiliar to us. We will certainly return one day.
One of the best restaurants I been... The service is impeccable.... Amazing food and care for the particular... The price is pretty high but is adequate for the great quality...
Michelin standard service and stunning dishes. We really enjoy our lunch and thanks so much to the team, to offer us great experience!
Ive been looking to visit your restaurant for a long time, but for one reason or another, it never happened. Finally, my boyfriend managed to surprise me with a table for my birthday! The whole venue is stunning, definitely very impressive and elegant but cozy and comfortable at the same time.We decided to go for the tasting menu which was absolutely a great choice. The food was delicious, my favourite was the scallop and the lamb!I also want to thank Silard, our sommelier who advised us with the best choice of wine!Thank you everyone for made by birthday special!
My wife and I visited the restaurant as part of our honeymoon trip to London.I have to say from the moment we opened the door to the moment we said goodbye our experience was utterly flawless. The service was second to none and the food was exceptional - thank you all for making our visit so memorable. We will be back and next time with friends.Joseph and Georgia.
This place had been on my date night list for a while and we finally made it last night. Our table was in the ‘flower’ room. It was so beautiful, cosy and romantic all at the same time. Staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely. Food was absolutely divine - we went for the tasting menu. The chef combined the fish options from the ‘meat’ one and the veggie options from the vegetarian one for us. It was easily one of the best meals I’ve had. My partner felt the same. Would definitely recommend!
Lovely restaurant with lovely staff. The food is exceptional (I had the asparagus soup and the chicken breast and they were both really good. In terms of deserts, if you’re not lactose intolerant I’d definitely recommend you skip the sweets and go for the charcuterie board - it’s divine. And do you know the best part? It was our anniversary and not only did they take into account our ask to stay near the fireplace but also offered us a celebratory cupcake. Thank you for being kind and for making us feel so welcomed. We’ll be definitely return.P.S.: they don’t serve the tasting menu after 9:30pm so bear that in mind if you would like to go for it.
My partner booked Clos Maggiore as a surprise - we had been planning to visit for over a year, and honestly, the wait was worth it! We both ordered the vegetarian tasting menu, and it was nothing but a delight. The food was delicious and the service was superb; there was even a sommelier who helped us pick the perfect wine with our meal. The atmosphere was fantastic and gorgeous, classy and romantic. We would definitely come here again.
Lovely 5-course tasting menu , together with classic wine pairing. Wonderful food presentation, like the scottish scallops most , the mustard seed for the lamb I s a bit too strong to my taste. A Great place for anniversary celebration. Good table distance and staff observe covid guidelines and all wear masks , makes us feel safe dining in this beautiful place . Can consider providing steamed hot towels or hand sanitiser to disinfect hands.Had to wait like 10 mins before staff came to the table and take order. Also , when consuming the second course , staff informed us that they ran out of the dessert ( apple for the tasting menu . During the 4th course , when I asked , they said the chef has replenished the apple dessert , only when I had the last course , they said the apple dessert ran out again and gave us the chocolate ones. A bit of confusion. Otherwise, service was really good and the staff helped take a lot of beautiful pictures .Reserve in advance .
That was love at first sight. Pre theater set was 40 was the best. Tartar, risotto, desserts. Beautiful place with great service. Coming back!
Absolutely exquisite. Beautiful decor, fantastic food and wonderful service. One of the nicest experiences I’ve had in London. We enjoyed the Lunch set menu which is definitely worth it.
The environment and food was impeccable!Went to Clos maggiore for my Aunts birthday 2 weeks ago and I have nothing but praises for the restaurant! The food was delicious, the ambience of the whole restaurant was amazing. The staff was helpful and polite but the staff that went above and beyond was Meli! He was outstanding with his excellent customer service skills and was very informative when it came to selecting our meals. Could have not asked for a better waiter.Definitely recommend this restaurant!
We had a fab dinner. The food was delicious with a special mention to the dessert. Service was also very good and the place is very beautiful, great for a romantic night.
I spent two months booking for this lovey conservatory room and I can say definitely worth it. I believe this is one of the best spots in the restaurant. The service level is phenomenal, you will have a really polite and professional team serving you. Chicken is a bit salty for me but perfectly cooked, the wine list is beyond expectations, and the dessert is a harmonious combination of apple and berries. Nothing too sweat. Really refreshing. The environment is nothing but Wow…no wonder it is well-known for being romantic. Everything is perfectly presented. The room is warm enough for you to enjoy and relax and there is cloakroom avail for ladies.
Amazing restaurant, beautiful interior (we sat in the conservatory which was just wow!!and the food was delicious. I had the lamb for mains with a side of veg and mash and let me tell you, it was the most creamiest mash I’ve ever had!!!I’ve given 4 stars as it was my partners birthday, and the restaurant assured me they would provide a cake for him as part of the celebrations. Unfortunately this did not happen, which was disappointing as well as surprising given how reputable this restaurant is. Still a lovely experience overall. Highly recommend.
Only dampener to the evening came from the sommelier team, which didnt seem to be in sync with the food that arrived and poor attitude beyond greetings afterwards on certain individuals.I was served a glass of rioja which had sediments and/or residue in the glass- which was sent back. Only to have the same issue served the second time to no real correction. Rather indicative of the bottle that was being served with no attention or care. The desert wine pairing with the valrhona chocolate, milk and coffee did not arrive together with the dessert and had bits of cork floating in the glass as well. For a second time to have issue with serving, this is very disappointing coming from a michelin restuarant. This was such a shame, as it did not help elevate the wonderful food that was served and curated by the chef. The experience was sullied and could have gone better and certainly did not encourage to order a bottle of wine in the end if this was the level of care provided.Perhaps also an attitude issue with the new sommelier team. It is rather rude after all when the customer can hear your staff being dismissive and unconcerned. A kind reminder to maybe consider that we can hear you in the quiet ambience of the restaurant near the bar.
Food was superb! From starter to main and dessert… we loved every bit! Really great atmosphere with the friendliest of services. Staff really helpful and extremely nice. A night to remember! Cannot recommend enough ✅
We had a great meal here for my boyfriend’s birthday! Laurent was a fabulous waiter and he made us feel very welcome. I was impressed they remembered that it was his birthday given I’d booked so far in advance! I was worried it would be a bit gimmicky given the cherry blossom but the food was top notch on top of the beautiful atmosphere. Try the truffle mash 😋
Absolutely brilliant place to go to, nice vibe, really friendly staff and amazing food. Love the signature cocktail. Will definitely come back again.
The restaurant is very intimate and is a great place for date night, the food was nice but not the best french food I’ve had. I think what made this place were the staff they were lovely, and it was nice to see that the team were very diverse from different backgrounds etc which stood out to me, I loved this❤️ (cocktails were good to).
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited in London. Its romantic, the food is amazing and the service is impeccable. All the dishes we have ordered were absolutely delicious, with desserts being an absolute top class. The place is cozy and welcoming, perfect for a romantic restaurant. We had the pleasure of sitting in the conservatory, so we might have been less delighted if sat elsewhere, as some of the tables doesnt seem to have the same atmosphere, especially with the top floor being closed (at least when we have visited). The only downside was the wine that we were offered, as it wasnt quite what we expected and didnt like it very much, but got offered a replacement, which really saved our evening and made us very happy. We will definitely be returning and have already booked a Table for September. I cannot wait to be back. If you havent visited this place yet, you definitely should!
