Cleveland Museum of Natural History in East Cleveland
Description
Privilege
Probably one of the best natural history museums Ive been to.I havent been to that many, but if youre taking a trip to Cleveland, youll want to stop here. Tickets are a little pricey for adults, but the contents inside the museum are worth it.Theres the fossil exhibit, mineral exhibit, the jewel/jewelery exhibit, space exhibit and the mini zoo at the end with a botanical garden in the middle. Its worth the trip.
MoreWe went and we loved it, you have to buy tickets before. BUT THEY HAVE A QR CODE OUTSIDE THE DOOR! made it very easy to buy tickets, our other plans got cancelled so we went here! And Im very happy I did. It was fun to see the live animals and the different displays. Its a lot bigger then I thought it was! Worth the money great for kids
MoreI had such a great time here. I can’t wait to come back when the construction is done.A staff member kindly let us know why we can’t take our drinks in the reserve and then she let us watch her feed the red fox. That was a 10/10 experience in itself.
MoreSomething for everyone to enjoy. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Nice presentation of snapping turtle. Good displays of artifacts. Outdoor area is a must to see. Animals all looked healthy, well cared for in their environments.Handicapped accessibility for at least 99% of visitor areas. Attached parking garage is conveniently located. Looking forward to returning when construction is finished!
MoreSelf guided museum. Lots of hands on displays. Scavenger hunt for the kids. The Live animal exhibit was our favorite part.
MoreA cool museum! Great for kids or adult who are in love with Dinosaurs and the history. A newer museum with lots of interactive stations for the kids! Once done with inside you will get to visit some animals and birds outside. I think it’s a very fun experience for the little ones.
MoreA small but awesome museum. There is even a exhibition of the history of the museum itself, very interesting. Like the wildlife part best, which is like a tiny zoo. Part of it is currently under construction and not open to public, I will come again when its done
MoreI love that this museum is a combo of a natural *history* museum, but then it also has *living* animals in really neat habitats.
MoreSuch a fun place to take your kids. We will definitely be back. All the staff were so nice, but Anastasia went above and beyond her job. She helped us get tickets reserved and also taught me alot about the museum before we even arrived.
MoreCool museum! I loved the dinosaurs and being able to see the real Lucy. The only thing is it was a lot smaller than I expected. The exhibits were so informative and interesting, I wish it continued on for longer!
MoreAbsolutely loved it - Had a great exhibit of Live animals as well
Great time!! Granddaughter, family and friends started birthday at Museum. Lots to see and do... kids had a blast and the outside area was an unexpected treat. Staff was friendly and helpful.
MoreAbsolutely fantastic! So many interesting specimens and learning opportunities! Very clean and the staff is so friendly!
MoreReally enjoyed my time there. Got through it little less than two hours looking at everything. Has a little bit of everything. Some parts are dated, but its enjoyable! Order your tickets online beforehand. No mask needed after noon.
MoreWhat a great way to spend the day! We had such a fantastic time here. The amount of fascinating exhibits took me by surprise. There was so much to learn as well as being mesmerized by your surroundings. We took our time and spent about 3 hours absorbing all the museum had to offer. From the dinosaurs, to the gemstones we were blown away. Cant wait to come back and do it again! We visited on MLK day and entry was free.
MoreVery interesting and engaging museum! The stones and jewels section especially stood out for me. Also the giant rotating Earth is awesome if youre obsessed with geography/globes like I am!
MoreSummer 2022: It was pretty lame. Not surprising this museum would be unaligned with our religious beliefs. The museum is forcing mandatory masks for two hours out of tne day 🤷🏻♂️… As soon as you walk in the exhibits on the left begin with the evolution garbage. No mention of creation whatsoever. As soon as we saw this we knew the museum was a mistake. Some of the exhibits were informative but the evolution ideology took the cake. The museum layout was confusing and the kids only liked the live owl display. The outdoor area was pretty much a wash. Most of the animals were sleeping and/or hiding. The gem display was probably the best.
MoreLots of cool exhibits. Under a bit of construction, so some exhibits are closed. My favorites were the exhibit with Bolto in it, and the other was the crystal and precious gemstone exhibit. They even have a live animal area. The owls were very fun to watch. As well as the coyotes. Cant wait to see what else they add!
MoreWe visited here about 20 years ago, and came back again. We spent about two hours here, and it was time well spent. The fossil and dinosaur exhibits are excellent, and the mineral and gems were very interesting. We were surprised by the rescued animals attached to the museum and enjoyed them immensely. The Peregrine falcon was quite active! We arrived at opening time, and it was not crowded at all.
MoreReally great museum! They have a lot of educational and interesting things for children. The wild life park was my kids favorite part seeing the animals they have even though a lot of them were sleeping it still was an amazing experience for them. My favorite part was the courtyard which was so beautiful and relaxing sitting by the waterfall and had room for the kids to run around and play seeing there was no one else out there at the time. The fact that you can currently go on Sunday for free if youre a resident is amazing, just pay for parking which is very affordable. Excellent experience!!!
MoreReally love the history to be learned here. The dinosaur displays are really nice. The Perkins wildlife center very nice as well lots ramps to walk and wheelchair accessible.
MoreThis was my first time back since I was a kiddo. Boy, have they upgraded..The wildlife area was my favorite part and my daughter absolutely loved the dino exhibits. Masks were required for the first 2 hours after the opened but nit required after noon.
MoreWent with my wife and kids and they had an absolute blast. The remodel is really impressive though it somehow made the museum feel really tiny. Not sure why but that museum is starting to feel like the halls are getting more and more narrow.Regardless the place was awesome and my kids actually seemed excited to learn about the things on display. Good times.
MoreAbsolutely stunning museum. My family and I were absolutely in awe of the exhibits. Originally I was worried about how engaged my kids would be but wow; it had so many opportunities for them to interact. This was the highlight of our spring break trip. If were ever visiting Cleveland again, well return.
MoreGrandsons loved the museum. A lot of the live animals were out even though it was pretty cold. The otters were fun. They always love the first room with the dinosaur bones.
MoreMy family really enjoyed our time at the Natural History Museum. My favorite part was the mining area! It was really neat to see what different elements look like. I also enjoyed seeing all of the animals. The reason why this is a 4 star and not a 5 is due to the layout of the museum. It was not very intuitive and we had to do a lot of backtracking in order to make sure that we didn’t miss any of the exhibits. I’m hoping when the new museum opens that it will have a better layout. All in all though, it was a great experience and I look forward to returning! The most fun thing I learned is that the T-Rex was actually just a big chicken! 🦖 = 🐓 (refer to photos!)PS: the gift shop here is amazing and benefits ongoing programs at the museum!
MoreThe natural History museum is a gem of Cleveland. Such beautiful enrichment for children is Paramount. They do an exceptional job from the staff to even the volunteers that go out of their way to teach kids as much as they possibly can, in a fun and exciting way.
MoreMy family loves to visit the Natural History Museum when we go to Cleaveland. There is a large variety of science/history exhibits to see. Our favorites are the outdoor animals and the dinosaur bones. Staff are helpful and friendly.
MoreWe had an absolutely delightful experience at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History! They have a wide variety of fascinating exhibits! They have added an outdoor animal viewing area, which we really enjoyed! Its a great place for the whole family!
MoreFamily friendly place. It was fun and educational. Theres a few animal exhibits outside, even in the 20-degree weather (we had no idea!!We spent 3 hours at the museum and brought our 1 and a half year old (he did sleep about half the timehowever he enjoyed walking around. OH YEA!!!! MAKE SURE YOU SCREEN SHOT THE SCAN BAR OF YOUR ONLINE PURCHASE OF TICKETS, THE PHONE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE by the front desk.
MoreSmall museum that packs a lot of punch with a lot of different objects to learn and explore. Meet Lucy, one of the oldest recreations of an ancient fossil and learn about the origins of humans. Check out the dinosaurs. Theres even a baby T-rex!Other exhibits include geology and gemstones, the earth and its environment, the solar system and what makes up particles of the soil on other planets and moons. Check out an actual fragment of moon rock on display in the gems exhibit.Scattered throughout the museum are hands on exhibits as well as a mini earthquake experience. Take a look at the inside of a cavern or in an mining car. Theres so much to discover! If youre scavenger hunt ready youll find cheeseburgers in various places such as in a sharks mouth.Whats nice is that it is all on one floor! Dont forget to checkout the outdoor wildlife preserve where you can see foxes, coyotes, otters, and even a bald eagle! The planetarium is currently being refurbished. Entry is only through the garage parking at this point. Tickets must be reserved in advance on line and purchased. Masks are required throughout your visit. Finally, take the time to explore the exhibit on how the museum evolved itself over the years. Meet Balto, a taxidermy dog that paved the way for the Iditarod in Alaska. This is a great family friendly place to go and explore the wonders of science and nature.
MoreLove this place to take my kids. I cant wait until the planetarium is open again, that is my favorite part. The outdoor animal exhibit is great. Overall a great weekend activity for kids.
MoreHad a great day! Outdoor exhibit and animals were awesome. Our 4 year old loved the dinosaurs and interactive exhibits.
MoreThis is an absolutely wonderful place to visit even on a sunny day! Its free, but based on the quality content and wonderful curating youd never guess. I really enjoyed walking through the different themed galleries and seeing the amazing artwork. If you need a break, the open and spacious atrium will help you relax as well with its grove of natural trees.
MoreSmall natural history museum with exhibits all on one level; I expected more. General admission price is not appropriate to the size. It only took about 90 minutes to walk through and back to main entrance. Signage and displays are easy to read and understand. The outdoor wildlife enclosures are appropriate sizes for the animals. The animals themselves are rescues or transfers from other places. Museum store is minimal, and there is a Cafe with basic food.
MoreMy children really enjoy the museum. Great staff and security. There are educators carrying out demonstrations in a few exhibits. The kids really enjoy the presentation giving on the wildlife rescue animals which will soon be released into the wild. The building seems to always be under construction though; causing some sections to be closed. Overall the price was not bad. We paid 100 bucks for the family pack membership, good for a year. Perfect for us; being 2 adults and 4 kids. Im expecting next years price to increase with the completion of construction and new exhibits but Im OK with it if it does. Wouldve received 5 stars if all exhibits are open. Oh and the Otters are a real treat. We could sit and observe them forever if we can.
MoreA gem! If youre in the area I would aay this is a must-see. Excited to go back in 2024 when all the improvements are completed. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor animals. They appeared to be very well cared for, happy and healthy.
MoreHavent been here since the outside animal habitats were added. That area is very well done. The planetarium was closed, but we were still charged the full admission price.
MoreSmall but nice museum. Good for a few hours. I thought the outdoor native wildlife part was pretty neat!
MoreThe museum makes for a great day trip and we easily spent hours even without seeing everything. It had great interactivity for young groups, but plenty for older groups to appreciate as well. The variety of exhibits was nice as well ranging from archeology, to geology, to ecology, as well as live animal exhibits. Would definitely recommend as part of your trip if youre considering it.
MoreWell detailed descriptions of their displays and even though a huge part of the museum is under construction the displays they had were fantastic furthermore i cant wait to go back once the remodeling is finished they are making it i wanna say 3 times the size!
MoreTook our granddaughters out for a girls day and they enjoyed seeing all the fossils, gemstones and animals... They loved the souvenir shop and so did I! Everything was very reasonably priced... It was a fun learning day
MoreHad very enjoyable afternoon. Got there and found 1/3 of it (insects/bugswas closed and found out another 1/3 (planetarium and another sectionwould close the next day until 2024. If the price lowers due to so much being unavailable it would definitely be worth it. Excellent outdoor exhibit with many cool animals. Kind of like a miini zoo.
MoreA fun experience for all ages. The exhibits are fun and the planetarium is awe inspiring! Very knowledgeable staff, friendly prices, and good shows!
MoreAmazing experience as always. I loved the fact they added wildlife. Clean restrooms, friendly staff. You do need to purchase tickets for the planetarium. We purchased ours in advance. Its a great place for kids to learn and have adventure.
MoreIncredible!!! Great for a date, family trip or educational trip! You can see it all in about two hours but I would suggest taking more time to visit. Meter and parking garage with great access to entrance. Very safe feeling parking garage. Balto resides here so if you would like to see where his remains rest this would be an excellent place to visit. Close to other attractions like the botanical garden! Tickets are very fair priced, unfortunately the planetarium was closed so we will be back again.
MoreIts been over a year since my wife and I could experience enjoying one of our favorite pastimes. While we are accustomed to the size of the Field Museum, this was a great facility. Lots of cool things to see. I recommend visiting.
MoreI took the family here Saturday to enjoy an educational day. There is a lot to see. We attended an animal show too, which was a surprise for them. The dinosaur skeletons were absolutely awesome. Well worth it. FYI you do have to pay to park.
More100% worth checking out! The price isn’t bad at all for what you get. We saw a lot of great exhibits, a live animal show, and live animals outside as well. It’s a great way to kill a few hours and learn a lot in the process!
MoreWhat a great idea to get out & visit this amazing Museum & Perkins Wildlife Rescue Center ( part of the Museumto get up close & personal with local wildlife! Very, VERY clean & masks required & worn! & distancing was not a problem either. Staff running around cleaning all & maintaining sanitation stations & working hard to provide this great place to enjoy 💟Thank you to All!
