A spiral staircase climbs the inside of this 76m-high baroque bell tower, offering city-wide views.
Amazing views from tower. A must see for every Porto visitor.
I went late and was the only one there for a while. Up and down goes thru same tight stairs. Nice views.
Tower from 1750 with beautiful chapel inside. There was a separate ticket of 6 euros to go to the top of the tower. Stairs to the top is very narrow but had several windows to steal the views of the city. There are couple of levels at the top which gives sweeping view of the city. Entry and exit were smooth. At exit, there is a souvenir shop if you are interested in buying the souvenirs
Pleasant self guided tour prior to going to the tower. Ticket also includes entry for the church. Plenty of art and artifacts, as well as history of other buildings in the area. Stairway to the top is winding and narrow with traffic going both ways. People taking turns letting others pass before continuing in their direction. There are two levels of observation decks. Both offer terrific 360 views of the city on their circular balconies. Well worth the time.
Lovely church and a fairly large museum above it. Highlight is, of course, the tower. Easy steps (no circular staircase thankfullyso not too big of a challenge to get to the top.
So beautiful square and place for rest and have Nice moments . Amazing
Magical, some great pieces of art, and topped off with fantastic 360 views of the city
Great views over the entire city. Its really great around sunset. Unfortunetly its extremly busy and very cramped both on the platform and in the staircase. Its way to little space to move or relax, yes the view is great but if you want to really enjoy it, go somewhere else, still recommended if you have time to spare in porto and dont care about the other people and lack space
walking up the stairs is cramped so I don’t recommend it for people who feel claustrophobic or are very large when are a lot of visitors. You should check out the laser show! It does get a bit repetitive but it’s still worth checking out.
Since it’s the middle of October it’s simple to just walk up pay your six euros per person and head on through the tower. There are several floors and exhibits dating back to the early 1700s. Keep making your way around and eventually you’ll start climbing up the steep one-way staircase. There will be people coming down as you’re going up so it’s sometimes difficult. Once you get up top you’ll have excellent views of Porto expanding all the way across the river. There are landmarks and buildings pointed out on the railing of which direction they are and you could see them in the distance. Definitely worth a visit and a good healthy way to get to the top
Very cool 360 degree City view. I would imagine it’s crazy cramped if it’s super busy, but we had a smaller day so it was okay. If you’re interested in the museum/church part, take your time before the tower, because you can’t go back later to the church part after the tower. Good rainy day activity.
This is a MUST-TO-GO place to see entire city. And very nice place to take pictures but be careful of the strong wind. :)
A popular church with some displays about the church and Christianity at the bottom floors, and a narrow tower at the top with good views over Porto. Of course the tower wasnt designed for tourism and much of the staircase is narrow and with people going both up and down at the same time makes it a little difficult to have smoothly flowing traffic. The stairs to go up to the top may be a little strenuous for some with some people looking a little puffed out, but most people managed without a problem as its not that tall a tower and due to the narrowness its quite a slow paced climb. The views from the top are worth going up for. Its again a narrow platform that gets crowded when busy, but it spans 360 degrees so people will keep moving around to see the different views. It can get a little windy up there too so be careful that nothing you bring up flies away. Its €6 to go up the tower, but they also have a timed light show available that can be purchased separately or combined with the tower visit for cheaper than buying them individually.
We came here on a Monday, bought our timed tickets onsite and waited for 30 minutes. I didn’t realize that on the way up each level was made into a museum so you get to learn about the church and the history of the structure.Be prepared to walk up a ton of stairs in a very narrow staircases. Also, there were times that we had to wait in the stairwell for people to come downstairs one at a time. That part took a while so bring your patience with you. Once we made it at the top the view was pretty neat and worth it.
Very historic building in Porto. Some very nice art and architecture and amazing views from the tower.
Steps, steps and more steps... What an experience climbing up to the top of tower the way they did back in the day. Tight passages and flights of stairs. The church was having a baptism while we were inside which was cool. I would highly recommend this be on your list of places to see while in Porto.
Amazing views of Porto for the low low price of 6 Euro. You are given a timeslot and asked to come back at the allotted time. 255 ish stairs but it feels less its quite broken up and you tend to have to stop to let folks coming down pass by. The staircase is very narrow so be aware that you may have to squeeze into a corner and hold in the belly to let people by 😄 well worth it for the views though?
Well worth a visit, fantastic views from the top and you get to see the church on your way up. The main queue is to buy tickets for a timed visit, so dont expect to go straight up. It is tight going up and down the stairs but everyone is so patient and polite it wasnt a problem.
Must visit attraction is you are in Porto at least for a half day. There are tickets to buy with set time. They may be available online, but we bought them on spot and waited 15 minutes - we spent it walking around the church (free of charge)
Fantastic views of Porto! I booked at 19:30 (earlier in the dayto be there for sunset and the platform was packed but still got a space. The stairs are narrow so take your time. It’s a EURO cheaper if you go after 7pm and the toilets are closed when the museum is closed. When you’re on the deck there’s information about various buildings all over the world.
Beautiful tower, and good views from the top, next to miradouro da victoria
Incredible view from tower but make sure to book online as you skip long queue!Only bad thing is lack of organisation with moving up and down the stairs which are narrow. Therefore you had to wait quite a lot for people to move byIf your scared of heights this is not the one!
As a person with asthma I wasnt looking forward to the climb but mostly the views. The climb in the end wasnt all that bad and the views were amazing. Loved the details on top of other famous buildings in Porto and spotting said buildings. I thought the comparisons between towers in other places was a lovely touch as well.
Really great view of the city from the top of the tower. Its definitely worth the few euros to see the church/museum and climb the stairs.
Very nice park next to it to chill. At 12:00 and 18:00 it plays various tunes with its bells. The clock on the tower shows time a bit delayed.
Mandatory visit if you pass through Porto. The views from the top are worth it after the endless steps of the towers narrow stairs. It is advisable to avoid rush hours, as there is usually quite a queue to get tickets.
This is one of the most visited places in Porto. My suggestion would be to visit either early, as soon as it opens or towards the evening. Important thing to note is, when you purchase the tour, its for Clergios Tower and the church so plan for at least 2 hours. The church is exquisite and the view that is a part of the tour is just amazing. After the church there is another exhibit of artifacts. It is very informative and requires about 45 minutes to complete thoroughly.Once you start the climb the most important thing is, the stairs are the only way up there, that means, when you are going up, a bunch of people are coming down as well. The width of the staircase is not enough for 2 people to pass each other. The team there regulates the number of people on the staircase but its not enough, best way is to call out at each turn to let someone on the other side know that you are coming up.Finally, once at the top, the view is just breathtaking. It is worth all the hassle to get up there. Refer to the photos for the view. In addition to that, there is a little game of sorts up there. They have marked all the historic buildings that you can see from each side on the railing. You can spend some time mapping them, if so inclined.Exit is through the gift shop and as is the case with all such shops, they have some amazing and unique items on offer at a fair price. This is a must visit place when visiting Porto.
Amazing to see all the exhibitions and then get right up to the top for a 360° view!
75-meter-tall bell tower, the Torre dos Clérigos is most famous bell tower in the city. When you climb it, you have a great view of the city.
A must visit in Porto! 360 view from the top of the tower (€6 ticket, €4 students). They now have a lights show which is simply amazing! If you visit the tower is €10 the entrance and it last 30 minutes.
Great atmosphere with beautiful city views. Stairs are steep and narrow as to be expected.
Really worth the 6 euros of entry ticket. Careful they have limited number of visitors by time slot so if you didnt book you may be asked to buy your ticket for later in the day. There are 3 floors of exhibitions and then a long stair bringing to the top where you ll have a 360° view of the city. Ticket counter is at first floor. Toilet available at floor 2 and 4. A church is accessible for free from the ground.
€6 per person. Great views of the city from the top but a very narrow climb. €1 water bottles for sale in vending machine within the museum at the bottom of the tower.
Excellent attraction to visit. Worth booking a ticket to see the complete over the top indulgent lavish opulence of the church and also climb the tower to soak in the panoramic views over Porto. It gets busy but it is well organised with numbers limited in the tower at any one time.
Church looked nice, however, 6 euros to climb a tower yourself is quite steep.
Beautiful church with a breathtaking panoramic view on the city. You can see everything from up there! However, good luck to get there if the place is full... The stairs are very hard to engage and too thin for crossing people!! It was a challenge
The view is amazing!6€ you can pay at the entrelace i think it’s cheaper than buying online.
I went around 10am on a Wednesday and it was not every crowded. Entrance ticket is 6€, I do think it’s worth it. It’s mentioned there’s around 200 stairs to climb, it was ok. Not that tiring :the path is quite narrow though. But the views on the top make it worth the effort. The church itself is very beautiful, marble all around. On your path to the tower there are certain exhibitions you can stop and check out.
Tip : book in advance for the 1830 viewing. We went on a busy weekend and shared the platform with two other groups. Much better experience. It also meant we got to go to the museum the day after as it’s closed at 6pm. This worked well for us.Great views of the city from this tower - please note there is no elevator and about 500 steps to climb.
Its worth it. There is a museum going up. You can pass through without looking, if its too much...those torture scenes. You have to like that. Very explicit and gruesome crucifixion sculptures. Historically interesting though. The view is, of course lovely.
A point of interest to visit with history. The ticket price per adult is 6 euros, but it is worth it. Besides visiting the tower with a 360° view of the city of Porto, you can also visit a small museum of religious wood sculptures and the church through balconies. The view from the top of the tower is spectacular, but wear a jacket because is cold and windy. As you go up the tower the stairs get narrower until only fit one person.
The tower is one of the best places to get a view of the beautiful city of Porto. The only drawback is, I was forced to go through the museum to climb the stairs, which I wasn’t really amused with.
A unique historic monument in the heart of Porto.... and the views of the whole city just amazing!!!!! It us a must place to visit if you are not afraid of heights.!!!!
Great experience. The view when you finally get to the top of the tower is beautiful. They really make an effort to keep this place in perfect condition for you to enjoy the tour.
Would definitely recommend for good views of the city. There are a good few steps and they are quite narrow and are used for people going up and down. There also is not a lot of space to move around at the top. None of this stuff bothered me but might for some people. 6 euro for a ticket including some displays and to see the church as well.
The visit of the church is free, and its great.Abut the tower, its maybe the best tower of the city, but if you dont look for a good moment to make the queue to get the ticket, youll waste a lot of time.My advice: do not wait if the queue exits the building.
The journey to the top tests your limits, I ended up with sore thighs and legs after visiting the tower because the stairs are very steep. However the view at the top is great! Price to get in 3 euros with student discount
What a view!It was €6/person for admission, which seamed a fair price to pay to tour the church, let alone go up in the tower.Beautiful inside with an incredible story to go along with it — plenty to learn and see before even ascending the tower. That said, the highlight was definitely the view from the top — not sure how many steps total, but well worth the effort as the views spectacular!Would definitely recommend to anyone bouncing around Porto for the day with an hour or so to spend soaking in some local history!
Its 6€ what doesnt seem expansive BUT, before reaching the top of the tower you will pass a quite creepy museum full of emages of Christ in different poses (I guess to make you feel like its well spend moneyand to reach the top you will pass by very small stairs and theres none controlling who goes up or down so sometimes gets very claustrophobic at that point. However you get very nice views
An inexpensive self-guided tour of the Clérigos should definitely be on your to-do list in Porto. The views are stunning from the top and the walk up is like exploring a church and a castle! There are a number of steps which may be challenging for some, and a lift to take you about a third of the way up.Entry queues can take a long time although you can buy a ticket for a later time that better suits.Be aware, there are open windows, arrow slots and gaps between balusters that are large enough for small and large children/adults to get through and you may also have to go backwards to allow people to pass.
