Clayton’s Public House in North Glendale

Visited October 2019. Great atmosphere with a lively crowd. The night we visited just happened to be the same night as a Harry Potter pub crawl. The feature drinks looked really interesting but proved to slow down the bar tremendously. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our beers.

An homage to the Victorian days on Bunker Hill which is situated just a few blocks away. Those mansions are long and gone( some where actually relocated to heritage square museum. Check it out). Definitely a pub/restaurant atmosphere. I just wish it was more lively at times.

Great place for happy and hearty food options. I thoroughly enjoyed the lamb shepards pie that came with a nice side salad. Servers were very nice and attentive. I am not a fan of its location in dtla but there were plenty of parking garages near by.

There was no host to welcome us. Finally when we were standing awkwardly just waiting for someone to seat us, we walked to the bar to ask if someone was going to take us to our seat. The bar tender said just go and sit anywhere and we will send a server. We waited and waited and no showed up. So we left !

I love this place. Claytons Public House in the Spring Arcade Building has a very old school British feel to it. The dark wood and the interesting décor definitely sets the mood. As for the drinks...its good. Their cocktail program gets updated once in a while but the quality of the drinks is still up there. I am a little upset that they got rid of a couple of my favorites like the Modesto Avila but I heard that they have another Mezcal drink that is pretty tasty. As for their beers...theyre all craft and imported beers. Tony (one of the ownersdoes an excellent job curating the beer selection. As for the food...all pretty damn good. The menu has also gone through some changes but the Fish n Chips is still delicious as is the fried chicken bites (mango habanero for the win). The deviled egg is good but I do miss the Scottish Egg.Clayton really does feel more like a local bar...not at all pretentious and the staff is nice.

The food is good. Ive come here for fish and chips, shepherds pie, or just to have a few beers. This is an English style pub, and central downtown needed one. This one is pretty authentic.My only complaint is that since my brother was covering the tab, i needed to cover the tip. I gave the waitress a 20, asked for change, and only got 15 back. This makes me angry, because I always tip 20%, and apparently this was not enough. The waitress felt it necessary to short change me an extra 5.

Nice Oasis in hectic downtown L.A. My new favorite spot for business lunch meetings.I had the Crab Louie today. It’s been a long time since I’ve had real lump crab. a pleasant surprise.

For drinks and a bite with a small group its probably okay. In fact, the food was good. But my party of 8 seemed to confuse the kitchen and waitstaff. The ticket-time was long and food did not come out together. Some apps came after dinner. They ultimately corrected the check, but the experience was more work than it should have been.

Love, love, love this place. I dont even drink, I come for the amazing food, awesome ambiance, wonderful mix of clientele, super friendly staff! Great location, perfect cozy size ... and for those who do drink, superb drink variety!

The decor and environment was pleasant and I liked most of the music. It had a vintage vibe, which is what I’m into. The drinks weren’t that great, but still enjoyable.

Food was decent. Service was not good. Waiter came out with an appetizer right as we were asking for our check. They are if we wanted it boxed... And when we said we didnt want it at all because we were done with our dinner, they were offended. They also never put in my dinner order. Fortunately, I had them cancel that before they charged Me because the rest of my group was already done with the food. Not impressed. Bar was good.

This place is so funky and cool! The food is eclectic and delicious. Sitting at the bar and having a few drinks and appetizers before our night out was perfect!

Very nice bar. Great interior design. Very tall cellings. Right across the way from Guisados, which is always a good idea, but the food offered at Claytons is pretty damn good.

Eric was the sweetest bartender (i think that was his nameand i met the owner and she was a doll! Love the decor and vibe here the food looked delish but I didnt eat. Will be back!

Went here for the first time and cant wait to go back. Ive already recommended this place to my friends for their delicious food and great portions for the price. Cannot wait to come back. Also they have a really great happy hour as well

Great food, extremely friendly service. Not very expensive compared to other spots around town, but I wouldnt say its cheap.Please bring back the old fish and chips! You guys changed the fish and its still good, but not as good as it used to be! And bring back brunch!I highly recommend the beet salad. Im not joking, its great.

I was skeptical of British food in LA until I came here, an absolute hidden gem downtown with fun decor, great drinks and great food! All the food was spectacularly executed, from freshness to talent, Ill absolutely be back!

Let’s talk about the fish & chips and how it’s the most inconsistent menu item at a restaurant I’ve ever encountered. I live across the street. I’ve had the fish & chips three times. The first time, it was a spectacularly delicious, well seasoned filet. The second time, when I paid the extra four dollars for an extra piece of fish, they just gave me a bigger, single piece, rather than a second filet, though the menu explicitly says, “add $4 for a second piece.” And the dreaded third time last night in which I received an inedible frozen fish sticks variety of fish & Chips. It was disgusting and was nothing like the filet version I had my first time there. It was so bad, I walked back across the street, and demanded my money back. They complied but all around bad situation. Menu items should be consistent. I shouldn’t get a different meal every time I order the same meal. Sadly, there won’t be a fourth fish & chips experience. Rip to the first fish & chips they had. I was so happy at the thought of having a go to fish & chips experience 😔

Im in LA for work, tonight was comfort activity night. So after finding a knitting group to hang out with, and perusing a book store, I ended up here for dinner. I was drawn by the decor and music.It has a very classy feel. I felt welcome when I walked in the door. Sat at the bar and was immediately greeted. I ended up ordering the crab linguine and love it. Although a piece of crusty bread would have helped. The nuts were fabulous. Warm and freshly prepared. I had the Harry Johnson to drink. It did not disappoint.Overall a warm welcoming experience, fairly priced for the area, and bar service at 10pm on a Wednesday was impeccable. Id love to come again with friends.

Excellent service at the bar! Deviled eggs are good enough to trade your soul for! Mezcal cocktails and chic bits are yummy!

Cool vibe. Impossible burger is so good. Pretty much the only thing I order. Lots of bottles to choose from. Nice selection of Irish whiskeys (my favouriteas well as many others. Did I mention its a cool vibe?

It was my first time here on a Saturday night and the place was popping! We had to wait a little for a table which was fine, we entertained ourselves looking around the really cool bar and had a beer (White Rascal). Unfortunately the food was pretty bland. The brussel sprouts and chicken bites needed more seasoning, and the cheese plate was disappointing.The Mac and cheese was pretty good though!

Great selections of beers from local micro breweries to German classics you will find some amazing brews here! I believe they have around 30 taps! Food is amazing as well, great happy hour that starts at 3 pm

Great new spot in Downtown LA, to have a beer and decent food. With lots of cool style. Service was really good too.

Wow! Awesome food! The fries were incredible, and the Impossible Burger blew me away! Great choice of wine by the glass as well!

Such an amazingly kind and caring staff, makes me want to come back each time just for them. Especially the hostess and the guy who checks your ID! Great food too and the atmosphere / decor is wonderful.

Excellent relaxed vibe, great decor (Haunted Mansion without the creep). Their Mac n cheese is one of the best Ive tasted. Scotch egg legit but the yolk was dry.

Its a large open space with high ceilings and a long bar. A decent selection of tasty beers. The fish and chips used to be stellar, light, flaky and flavorful. The last couple times I have been there, something has changed. I was there a couple days ago to give them another chance and again I got a generous portion of heavily battered oily fish layed on top of a large plate of fries. The magical seasoning they once used was missing. The portions were generous but I definitely enjoyed the old fish and chips more.

The place is well decorated. Got here with friends for some drinks. Waiters are fiendly and service is ok. But the Smelllll! from the kitchen is something outstanding. After 1 hour sitting inside I got nausea smelling "deep fryed cooking smoke, like in cheap chineese cafe. In restrums its even more severe.Left the bar in 2 hrs and feel all my hair and cloth now smells like smoked fish. So sad.Wont return again...

Came here for dinner on new years eve before hitting the night. The place seemed pretty cool. It has an old timey feel. The decor was cool with pictures surrounding the entire space. Once we were seated we were greeted by our waiter. He was friendly and took our drink orders right away. We also ordered the chicken bites appetizer. When the rest of our party arrived, we got down to the nitty gritty and ordered our food. I got the vegetarian curry, my bf got the burger, 2 others got the fish and chips, the fried chicken sandwich, more chicken bites and the mac and cheese.It actually took awhile for the food to come out. Not to mention that we never even got our original appetizer order. Once the food finally arrived... we still had to wait a bit cause not everyone got their food at the same time. The fried chicken sandwich was the last to arrive. By the time that came out the rest of us were half way through our meal. Apparently it wasnt cooked properly so they had to fry it up some more.... at least thats what they told us.The curry was bland! No flavor and waaaaay over priced at $21. Totally not worth it. The fish and chips were a nice serving size. A huge piece of fish and plenty of fries. The fried chicken sandwich had a thin piece of chicken. So how they undercooked it the first time is beyond me. The burger was good. But when is a burger bad? Our friend that got the mac and cheese didnt like it and ended up sending it back at the end of the meal since the waiter never came by to check on us once the food was brought out.I understand New Years Eve is a busy time.... but thats why I would have expected better service. This place is a definite skip for me.

The service was unacceptably slow. A plate of raw veggies took 25 minutes. It somehow was ready after Mac and cheese. Worst, the bouncer wouldnt let a young black woman in to use the restroom even after she offered to buy a drink until my group of white friends insisted that he let her in with us. Not a good look.

Loved the staff nice and friendly. Loved loved loved the way it is set up. I also like that they display their menu outside, so people like my friend and I who had never been there we can get an idea of what they serve and also if it is within your price range incase youre on a budget you avoid the discomforts of asking those type of questions like how much is it or oh snap too pricy we got to go type of situation.I loved the drinks and loved how dark it was and just the right amount of lighting. I am a big harry potter fan and it just gave me that vibe like i was there in the movie lol loved the restrooms and that the sink is motion sensored so i dont need to touch once im done. But do NOT place your purse down on it because it will turn on, happened to my friend and her purse had a mini flood in it lol. Great place really clean and awesome. Not the best pics but will be going back and snapping a few more and will post.

Came with a small group for a friends birthday. It was pretty dead and service was slow. They were out of a few drinks we ordered. Ended up staying for one drink. Most likely wouldnt return.

Even late at night on a Friday, OUTSTANDING SERVICE!!Beautiful artwork and decor that was collected and designed with heart by the owners, I was told by the amazing waiter Sept. 28th (I wish I remembered his namethe story if this restaurant should be told more to customers, it was a treat to hear about it.Menu had a good selection of both drinks and eats. The burger I got was lovely with the paired beer. I hope to be back again soon, mucho satisfied!

The only negative aspect was the host attitude. When approaching, the host and server were extremely negative and wouldve dissuaded me from going in but Im glad I looked past it because I was met with the super sweet hajar who is a bartender there. She was amazing. She took care of me and my boyfriend so well. She is the reason Im giving 5 stars and will be back. I will simply just walk right past the host and on to great food and great drinks and great ambience.

Knew this local when it was radio/electronics store. Love the decor.Menu is limited but good. Wish they had more choices. Good service. They respond.Parking is not good.Just a little bit overpriced but I can deal.Great bar.

Claytons is a beautiful vintage style dark wood bar and restaurant with great drinks and good food. Located at the Spring Street end of the newly renovated Arcade Building, Claytons is a welcome addition. The food is quite good. We ordered the vegetable crudite which had an absolutely yummy green goddess dip for the veggies... the hummus is also delicious as a starter - garlicly and authentic... the half roasted chicken is perfectly prepared with a crispy skin. I also recommend the grilled asparagus with what i believe is a romescu sauce. Definitely a place i will be coming back to again and again.

Excellent beer selection, great cocktails, fantastic upscale food, good prices, and a fun oldtimey decor. We were *very* happy with all our food and drink choices. I will definitely be returning.

I love this place❤ Great cocktails & good selection of craft beers. So far everything I have ordered from the menu is great. Been there 6 times to eat & drink. The service at the bar & at a table was great for me & my guests.Love the way it looks.....a lot of work went into the interior decor and they nailed. Love the use of daylight in the space.

Place was awesome. Grayson my bartender was GREAT!!! He made a house special drink and after that I asked him to make me something he was good with because hes the pro. Gave me options to choose from and made an awesome cocktail and gave me some educational tips behind the drink. Very cool. Atmosphere was very relaxed.

5 stars is not enough, this is an amazing and much needed gem in DTLA. From start to finish it was stellar. Drinks are worth every penny of their purchase price ($14-$15), these are expertly crafted artisanal drinks, pairs perfectly with the equally impressive menu. Even the moderately priced appetizers ($9were sharing size. If you want a classic experience in the modern world give them a try.

This bar has so much personality! From the moment you step through the solid front door, you are inundated with portraits of fascinating people from yesteryear. Magicians, scientists, circus performers. Then the highly attentive and server comes by (dont remember his name but he had facial hairand hangs out at your table to tell you a bit about the history of the place and the photograph you were looking at. He convinced me to try an interesting sounding drink that has you pour the liquid over a sort of merengue (veganand watch as it has a chemical reaction before you take in the floral aroma and subtly sweet and distinctly unique flavors. The chicken bites were the best Ive ever has, juicy and flavorful enough that you dont even need sauce. The mac n cheese was delicious and my dad was very pleased with the fish nchips. Definitely frequenting this place in the future!

I was so excited for Claytons to finally open being a local resident after so many months of build out. My favorite first time there I went with my husband and a friend of ours. There were less than 30 patrons several servers on staff and two bartenders. After being seated we were ignored for almost 1/2 hour before we finally left to patronize another business. Most likely will not be coming back. Sadly disappointed.

Very cool place. So happy it finally opened. Been 4 times already. Food is great. Drinks decent. Loses one star for charging $3 each for soda water from the gun. Seriously?

Claytons is a new addition to the Downtown LA area. The decor is stunning with plenty of table and chairs as well as an amazing bar with comfortable seating. Forrest was the bar tender and he, as well as the rest of the staff, was very friendly and attentive. The food and drink were outstanding, large portions at very fair prices. I will recommend Claytons to anyone and will be going back very soon.
