Drinks made with local spirits are paired with Northwest-inspired small plates at this swank lounge.
We were excited to try this place despite some of the negative reviews. The drinks were just ok. Definitely not worth the price tag. Plus, our server wasnt very friendly which killed what little it had going as far as atmosphere.
Was here a while back. Nice vibe about $25 per beverage. Overall experience not a wow but cool to check out and grab a quick drink or be semi social.
Asked for a well mule and was charged for a premium drink. It was bad too. Waited 40 min after being seated for 2 drinks. Never coming again
No real care for the drinks served. Slow and inattentive service. Food portions are giant. The order of fries is more of a bucket of fries. I appreciate the extras from the chef - mushrooms tasted great, but defeats the purpose of stopping by for drinks & snacks before dinner.
Drinks were pretty good, staff... pretentious and unjustified.
Our first time in. Drinks off the menu were great. Asked the bartender to make me something whiskey forward and it was awesome. Will definitely be coming back. I felt that the prices were spot on for what we got and the great service.
Went for a friends birthday, the two bartenders we had were awesome. Was definitely a great time.
So I love a good speakeasy so I was so excited to try this place. The vast amount of whiskey options were great and the old fashion was good. My red sangria was too tart and the vibe was lackluster. I fully understand Bellevue is an expensive location and dont mind the price for a nice night out, however I dont like hidden fees. Also by the wording I dont understand if the service charge is kept by the company and not given to the bartender which makes it feel like youre paying a 20% service fee and then expected to pay 20% tip. Just raise your price and be upfront.
Definitely a cool atmosphere, but the cost of a drink quickly sobers the mood. A “speakeasy” like place. Would return for one drink… Cheers
This may well be the best cocktail bar I’ve ever been to. New York, Paris, Barcelona etc. The vibe is cool and the bartenders are super legit. Jut perfectly executed drinks.
The very racist bouncer said they stop seating 2 hours before closing time and let 2 white people go after us. And of course the restaurant will say they had a reservation.
This is one of my favorite bars in the area, so I decided to rent out the back lounge to host my 40th birthday. I had a group of around 35-40 people and we all fit in there very comfortable. They have a special menu of appetizers to choose from that all sounded amazing, but I picked several of them that sounded the best or most interesting. The food, as expected of Chef Jason Wilson, was all amazing. I typically will try a couple of the specialty cocktails on the menu, but I mostly like to order some standard classic cocktails. All of the cocktails were well crafted and the bar staff was very helpful. All of my guests seemed to have a great time. I would definitely recommend the place for hosting your events.
Enjoyed a well-made vodka martini here. The ambiance reminds me of New York - it’s narrow and intimate and cozy. I really enjoyed it.We also ordered the calamari and another appetizer I’m blanking on. Both were tasty.Prices are in line for Bellevue.
It was my birthday and my ID was in my car. Instead of telling me I need to get it, the ‘manager’ told me I could go somewhere else instead. This is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been to some genuinely terrible places, but I have never been treated this poorly at an establishment. The management at this place needs to learn how to treat people. Just because you pay rent in Bellevue, does not mean that you can treat people so embarrassingly. ‘Management’ implies at least some bare minimum skill in dealing with folks. The individual tonight, was one of the worst I have dealt with. My experience spans many countries and contexts — I have never been treated like this. Maybe you don’t care about my individual experience, but you need to do better. This establishment truly makes this whole city look bad.
We’ve dined at The Lakehouse a few times and were very excited to try their sister spot, Civility and Unrest. We finally went last night and didn’t have a reservation. Told the wait was 15 minutes, but a table was ready for us before that which was nice. However, our experience there was much less than ideal. I don’t mind slow service because I understand that servers are busy with other customers. However, what I do mind is being treated as a second-class patron. We only saw our server three times the entire night, while the table of 8 next to us were treated like kings. They had gotten three rounds of drinks before our first had even arrived. We ordered two tequila shots after our first round, but waited over twenty minutes just for them to arrive while the table next to us continued to get VIP treatment. We decided to leave after that because we were so disappointed in our experience. Definitely will not be coming back as long as the staff continues to treat paying customers differently.
The atmosphere is intimate. It is small bar so it does get a little noisy which is fine. For being a cocktail bar their menu is very limited. The drinks themselves were okay...they had great flavor on the front but it quickly faded into nothing on the back.
This place is a ton of fun with a great atmosphere. Ask to be seated in the back, because it has a nice speakeasy mood there. Our bartender, Jason, was amazing and absolutely makes the difference! His attitude and care towards customers makes you feel like youre long time friends or family finally coming back for a reunion. 11/10 will recommend.
This has remained my favorite spot in the Seattle metro area for nearly five years, now. The staff put their heart into the cocktails, and are happy to help you explore the dizzying array of flavors available. I cant recommend this place enough.COVID Update: The back bar is still a work in progress, but the staff are happy to make you just about anything you can dream of. I have it on good authority that a back bar menu is imminent, and I would say the quality of the drinks has not decreased, so my original review stands. Come vaxed, with ID, and thirsty, and you will be taken care of.
Place is great but i always take issue with places that dont tell you about the 20% auto gratuity. Seems sneaky like youre trying to rip me off. 5 stars otherwise.
This is a really classy bar however, the best attribute of this bar is the service by the bartender Raul!! He was awesome during our visit. He made us feel welcome from the first moment. He is a great mixologist, he prepared our drinks the way we wanted and used the spirits that we liked. Awesome service Raul! We’ll be back to visit you again!
THEY ARE BACK OPEN!!! I love this place, best smoked whiskeys! If you have anyone visiting or looking for a great spot for a drink. This is the spot! 😍
C&U is good, but its definitely quirky. When you sit down you feel like youre in an elegant bar that definitely feels like a speakeasy. After a few minutes though, you begin to notice that theres more to the story. Its almost like they couldnt decide what kind of atmosphere they wanted. Elegant decor, rock music playing, with 2 projectors randomly displaying a live camera view of a Maui beach? The service and drinks were good, but $16 per (smalldrink plus a mandatory 20% gratuity made it a little pricey for what you got.Overall, it was a decent date night spot, but probably wouldnt make it a regular trip.
The cocktails here are excellent. The bartenders are knowledgeable, and they have an interest in not just making a drink youll like, but helping you learn why you like it, and finding new cocktails you may have never considered based on that. Highly recommended.
This place is quaint, and the bar staff is smart when it comes to making sure you have a drink youd enjoy. This is what small business is about.
A vintage speak easy in down town that offers the best drinks in the Pacific Northwest. Try the back room for a unique experience and grab a sampling of all the Absinthe they offer as it is a unique experience. Talking with the amazing staff will let you know the insane variety of amazing things they offer above and beyond your usual cocktail options. Go for the experience and go often, there is no better place to hang out and relax in the PNW than Civility & Unrest in my opinion!
Truly superb cocktails, arguably the best in Bellevue. The food is lacking but that is not why you should come here, and if youre really interested/desperate, they will cater the menu from the restaurant upstairs, which is pretty superb and something of which not many patrons seem aware. There is always something special on the cocktail menu and they are flexible and creative when given loose or creative instructions or points of inspiration. We come here regularly when in the mood and are always pleasantly served. Our best memory was having the team help us select our wedding cocktails. It was a collaborative process, and we went with a lavender French 75 and a special Last Word with lavender essence, notice a theme there ;-Oh, and did I mention the back room and private party area are superiorly posh and actually seem special for the area. Dont get fooled by the flashy club scene of the W upstairs, albeit fun the staff at the W cant make a sophisticated cocktail to save their life, seriously. So, if you like real cocktails and you live East Side, there is no reason for you not to come and try Civility and Unrest for yourself. Your taste buds, and your date, will assuredly be happy.
Always a good cocktail. Service is consistently excellent. Tots are good with the blue cheese sauce (on request). Nice charcuterie plate. $$$
Ridiculously good cocktails. Super cozy spot with a great atmosphere. Be sure to ask the mixologist if you dont know what to order, they will not steer you wrong!
Their drinks are creative and typically quite good! The food is okay, but my perception is the service is consistently lacking. The people who work there are pleasant, but overall the experience is lengthy and a little disappointing every time I have gone.
I was hanging out with my cool friend Bizzy, and her brother. We decided we should check out this spot. I had heard about Civility & Unrest from some beverage industry friends, and Bizz had been here before. There is 2 sides to this bar, Civility out front, and Unrest in the back. Bizz said Unrest was the cool side, so we went back there. I am typically not a cocktail kinda guy, but I do enjoy one now and then. I typically dont spend $20 bucks on a drink, but hanging in downtown Bellevue is not a typical night for me. The bartender was knowledgeable, an excellent conversationalist, and entertaining. I spotted the Grasshopper cocktail on the menu. It sounded tasty except for the fact that it was garnished with a dried cricket. When the cocktail arrived, it really hit the spot. The flavours all complemented, and balanced each other. When I got to the cricket it was not that creepy. The texture was crunchy and the flavour was grain and nuts. I will definitely come back here if I want to pretend to be fancy for an evening.
The service is great, food super yummy and they really know how to put on a show when making some of these Craft Cocktails. Love it!Joe D. the bar manager is on another level..super talented. It’s my favorite spot on the eastside!
Really good drinks but in tiny glasses. Like bizarrely disproportionate to other similar/higher class bars. Food was tasty but the Brussels sprouts came out cold. Service was incredibly bad, with us waiting 20-30 minutes after the drink was empty before we would be forced to wave someone over.On top of it, a 20% service charge which is retained by the restaurant to the already inanely priced drinks. Bad service and a high service charge? Great. Won’t be coming back.
The bartenders are excellent! They know their stuff and recommend great drinks. I had a Vesper, which is something I wouldn’t have even dared to do usually. I feel like the theme was dark side and light side. I really liked the darker end of the bar. The light side wasn’t my feel. Its sort of a speakeasy, and very hipster-esk. I recommend this place to friends all the time.
The best bartenders in Bellevue. The drinks are fantastic. I never order from the menu, I just ask for whatever they want to make me, and its always delicious and creative. Civility has spoiled me for so many other places, its that good.
My wife and I spent a few hours at Civility & Unrest as part of our wedding anniversary weekend, we had a seat at the bar and we had the best service and drink creations from the bartender, Angelo. He is a definite master at his craft and with just a few questions he will create you a drink that is exactly what you are looking for!! This place is definitely a must visit during your next time in Bellevue!!
Music is horrible - all heavy metal rock.Server was rude and there is a 20% service charge automatically added to your bill that is not deserved at all. Drinks are mediocre at best. Our bill was $65 for just 3 drinks. I will not come back and do not recommend.I never rate any business this poorly, its really bad experience
Cons: They dont split the tab ever and they have a 20% automatic gratituity but the service did not deserve that. Our waitress was inattentive and unfriendly. My friend ended up paying $20 for one virgin drink and they charged SOMEONE ELSES $50 drink on our tab. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BILL HERE.Pros: The busser was more helpful than our waitress. The drinks are unique and tasty.I never rate businesses this poorly but this was warranted. We expect better service if there is automatic gratuity and we are spending over $300.
Wants to be like a speakeasy? Not even. Just hipsterish and way overpriced. Our server just kind of forgot us once we got in. Waited a solid 5 minutes to order. We ordered then waited 10 more minutes for the cocktail. There were only 8 people in the bar. And 3 bartenders. Cmon.I had a A Day In Giverny, which was good. Teeny drink. My wifes margarita and mine added up to $42 dollars. Uh, no.They charge a 20% service fee Absurd. Makes me feel obligated to tip 20% and almost be late for our dinner a block away? We had an hour to get a drink before dinner, and we barely made it.I dont want to go back.
Nice cocktail bar in Bellevue, has fun drinks and a cool vibe and made some nice off the menu orders.Mandatory 20% gratuity though was a bit of a surprise.Cocktails were 16$ a piece.
Not what it used to be. Been here a few times and its changed from a Speakeasy atmosphere to a high priced regular bar. This last time I had one of their special drinks for $22. We each took a sip (3 of usand agreed how awful it was. The server saw the full drink at the table and said “didn’t like it?” I said no it was pretty bad. She said “yeah” and took it away. Yet she still kept it on the bill. Most places would’ve either offered an alternative or removed it from the bill. Poor service + poor drinks = lost me as a customer.
Great place to get cocktails and drinks. Good selection of craft beers on tap and any type of drink you can imagine they can make. The place has a good vibe, and is in such a location that it feels like a speakeasy. Check it out, they have pretty good happy hour specials.
If youre trying to avoid the lines for speakeasy type of bars in Seattle, civility & unrest is the way to go. Especially if you work around Bellevue, this is a very convenient place to stop by for a quick drink, or for some company. My plus one and I had dinner at Japonessa and just walked across the sky bridge and went downstairs in the W hotel to get here. It is a splurge, but you do get a quality beverage to make up for the price. Civility & unrest are not shy with the alcohol content and I am not mad about (; .On a Wednesday night, the bar was fairly empty so we had the full bartenders attention. She was very attentive and gave us good drink suggestions. We sat at the bar, so we were able to witness her process well. The drinks were made unique and one of the drinks that we got tasted smoky and had some BBQ scent. Which was something I have never tasted before. (Sorry, cant remember the drink menu name!Nonetheless, great experience and I will definitely be returning back. The ambiance is great and I can imagine couples would want to be here for their first date or for any occasions!
Ive been here a couple of times for happy hour and its always been a cute spot, but not many people. Finally went on a Friday during a date night and it was SO busy (in a good wayand I loved they had happy hour until 7pm. Ive always gotten wine (which is a solid choice), but decided to try the cocktails and boy was I impressed. Cant remember the name, but one had passionfruit and coconut (was almost like a smoothie textureand the other had grapefruit and sparkling wine. Ill be back and will probably stick to cocktails from now on!
Overall loved this spot..the cocktails+appetizers were very tasty and the environment felt elegant in a fun way!! Service was excellent. 👍🏼Only thing I would change is the smell upon entering, can’t put my finger on what it is..maybe it was just the day I went on?
My wife and I had a wonderful time! We were seated immediately (8pm, Satand our orders were taken really quick. The menu was great, with fun twists on the classics as well as a few house originals. The food menu was great as well, traditional American fare. The drinks, food, and atmosphere were top level and well definitely be going again!Pro Tip: If youre not adverse to dairy, order the tater totchos, you will not regret it.
Super cute speakeasy in the W hotel in bellvue.Come see Angelio he’s not only good looking but can make you a wicked drink!!Totally recommend this place.
I cannot say enough amazing things about this place! I had a private corporate event here in the Unrest portion, and the team went above & beyond for us. They created a specialty cocktail for our company, made us feel incredibly welcome, and accommodated all of our special requests. The food and drinks were beyond delicious. Joe is not just a bartender, he’s an artist! Is there something more than 5 stars?Whitney, Joe, and their staff were phenomenal! We will definitely be back for more corporate events, happy hours, and social occasions. You should too!
My friends and I had an absolutely amazing experience in the back bar at Civility and Unrest. Definitely get a seat at the bar and dont be afraid to try something new! All our drinks were spectacular and definitely something I want to have again. A great start to my husband and I celebrating our honeymoon weekend.
Make sure you make it to the back bar. Not sure how that works, they have to seat you, but we got back there after and round of drinks and being up front for a bit.The bartender Joe makes a lot of fancy drinks with liquid nitrogen and fire, etc, etc. Its not just for show either, we were happy with what was served to us.Understand that this is not a place to go for your "usual", and the prices match that. Appreciate the art, take your time, and sip.PS, to the owners, please change the music. Some low key jazz and blues would be more appropriate than 3rd Eye Blind and other late 90s, early 2000s alternative-pop hits.
0 friends10 reviews2.0 star rating 7/29/2017I was excited to go check out the new speak-easy bar so we decided to stop in for a drink last night. The bar is beautiful and the hidden element is fun. However when we sat down at the back bar, the bartender with the "man bun" was patronizing, condescending, did not engage at all and made two of the smallest pour cocktails I have ever seen. And for each of these "3oz"cocktails- they come at a price of $16 each. Our bill for 2 "drinks" came to $36.00 before tip.We are locals and love food and wine and have no problems spending money on great food, drinks and service. But- If this place wants to have repeat customers at $16 a drink then they need to create a craft cocktail experience, and engage their customers- not have their bartenders be so arrogant and rude. And re-think their price tags for 3 oz drinks. I did speak to the bar manager Erick and he did apologize for the bartender. We might give this place another try- and hopefully they will add a little more "craft" to their expensive cocktail list.
