City of David - Historical place museum in Rosh Ha‘Ayin, Israel
Very very cool tour. Highly recommend. Definitely dont skip Hezekiah’s Tunnel!
Amazing must stop to visit this place on your visit to Jerusalem! Great views of the East Jerusalem side and many parts of the complex don’t cost anything to visit. It’s just a short 5 minute walk to the Kotel from here.
This is a must see when visiting Jerusalem and includes Hezekiahs tunnel. It is amazing to see and go through the tunnel.
Beautiful place n they gave a corner of tables in the shade where there is harp music. Feels very peaceful. The walking of the gihon tunnel was one of my highlights. Be prepared to be wet up above the knee n bring water shoes. The acoustic in the tunnel was fantastic. We sang n worshipped along the tunnel n I felt it sounded like heaven!!
The Holy Land Tours piloted the tour to Israel from every aspect. Their professional staff and guides Jad and Chaddi became our family. They showed every form of hospitality, safety of utmost concern. Sometimes you felt like a chick under momma hen, very well protected and secure. Their dedication to detail made my experience precious for a lifetime. In my heart forever.
Once in a lifetime experience to essentially crawl through the tight hezekiahs tunnel. A frightening but well worth it experience that gives you a new appreciation for what ancient civilization was able to accomplish. You just have to not think about the small spaces and the idea that the water is flowing beneath you
You have to stop here. But be aware the wet tunnel is about 20 minutes long in the complete darkness in a foot of water. Don’t go in if you are claustrophobic 😅😅😅 but it was amazing. An absolute must see if you are in Jerusalem. Worth every penny. Incredible to see David’s tombs and the original city of David.
Everything in Israel is beautiful and a sight to behold if you appreciate ancient history and seeing the Bible come to life before your eyes. The well maintained structures and artifacts are singing to behold. The city of David is very well maintained but make sure you have your mask for dust if you have allergies or asthma like me. I occasionally when its windy there may be dust. Also dress cool if traveling in summer through October it is very hot and the sun there will definitely find you unless you’re lucky to be under a nice shade from the trees.
What a beautiful experience! I have been to Israel 5 times but not been to this place!A spectacular view of the actual site and we walked towards the “back” to see the fire and water show! It showed the history of the city !!Not to be missed !!I will bring friends again!!
A must in Jerusalem. Here everything begun.Sounds and light. At night.
Cool historical spot! I highly recommend a guide as the significance of the place is lost without one.
Definitely visit. Experience the bible alive. And absolutely take the tour. Its worth it! Nathan Adler was an amazing guide.
I took the tour of biblical Jerusalem which took about 2 and a half hours to finish. The tour was divided into two parts: first we had a guided tour which included explanation about the place and all the history within, next we walked in a complete water track.I learned alot of things and enjoyed my time there 😌.
Flashlight a must. BYO or buy from them. Amazing hike, water up to knees at most even children. Fascinating history
We so much enjoyed this walk through the City of David...and the tunnel! What a great experience for us. A must to see when in Jerusalem!
One of the most special places in the world. Where it all started... weather you worship the Bible or are simply interested in ancient history, this place is absolutely mesmerizing in its content, beauty, and still active, daily discoveries. The water tunnel is a must!
The place is great and the instructor was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended historical place. The water tunnel is very narrow one way, so once you decide to go inside there is pretty much no way back.
Super great night light show, a must see!
Very interesting although this can be done as a self guided tour a guide is recommended to explain what you are looking at.The tunnels are fun but not recommended you are claustrophobic
Really great archeological tour. This gives you a great overview of some of the early history of Jerusalem. It was super cool to walk through the wet tunnel (just over thigh deepand then back up the old drainage tunnel beneath ancient paving stones.
I went to City of David as part of a class I am taking, so as I write, know that I dont have information on entry fees or tour guides or things like that. Also, from what I understand, it was an uncommonly quiet day on the day I went, so apparently it is typically pretty crowded. What I will say is that the site is wonderfully preserved and well kept up. It is amazing to see these iron age remains amdist the hills of the Jerusalem area. Also, while youre there, dont miss out on Hezekiahs tunnel. Its a little cramped and youll get wet, but you can walk through a truly remarkable piece of ancient civil engineering.
Enlightening tour which thought us a lot about the ancient times of the kingdom of David
Must be in good physical condition. Going through the tunnels is not easy, especially if you are tall.
It contains lots of holy history. The Hezekiah tunnel is a must do. It has the area where king Solomon was anointed. It is amazing how this tunnel was made to save Israel. Also, at the end of the tunnel you find the spot where the blind man recovered his sight by a miracle performed by Jesus Christ.
Very nice view, you can see the round roofs from close range.
Gorgeous little area with a gift store, a small terrace area, and the dig site itself! A great spot for tourists and it makes a wonderful day trip.
Jerusalem is our capital, capital of free jewish people! The City of David is best historical attraction in Jerusalem, proof of thousands of years, who built Jerusalem. My Recommendation!
Interesting archeological were objects confirming the link if the Jewish people ti Jerusalem were found
probably one of the more beutifull ancient places in israel.just go dont think.continue later to the old city district.
Great place to visit. Mostly shaded, so its great for the summer. We were there with the kids (6 & 9), they had a great time
History and archaeology. King david and the house of david, bible and much more. Make sure you go under ground to the Shiloach and make sure you have shoes to walk in water.
This museum contains the entire history of Jerusalem from start to finish. If you’re looking to experience history first hand, this is one of the best museums to go to. A lot of walking, but it’s worth it.
If you wish to understand and see in your own eyes how the Bible and the Jewish history are connected to Jerusalem - this has to be at the top of your wish list! And every time I visit, I learn new things they have just discovered in the most recent archeological excavations! And dont forget the beautiful wet track you can take to Jerusalems most important water resource of biblical days: Hagihon Spring.
After months of Enhanced Community Quarantine at last we visited Jerusalem.First stop- City of David, we did the tour of Biblical Jerusalem, it was Amazing, we choosed to finished the wet route that last approximately for 20 minutes and dont forget to bring your water shoes and flashlights, the kids enjoyed a lot. Thanks to our friendly and good tour guide Ronnie 👍💕. After our tour we visited the Western Wall for prayers. As we had planned we stayed for Shabbath at the newly opened City of David s Urban Camping at the Peace Forest. It was nice, secured and clean campground and have all the camping facilities that campers needed and also to Shabbath observers. Thanks to the nice and helpful campground worker Noam 💕. We had fun and historical weekend🙂.
The vision of this guy... wow. The magnificent of the City of David structures is amazing. I actually prayed to have a wisdom and courage to follow through on my vision. A place to visit...
The City of David is an archaeological site which you can visit and see remains from settlement during the Canaanite period. At the site you can go underground to Hezekiah’s Tunnel (maybe not if you’re claustrophobic), Warren’s Shaft, the Pool of Siloam). We’d recommend a guided tour so you know what you’re looking at. There’s lots of walking and stairs and hills so you need to be physically fit.Enter via the Dung Gate and head to the visitor centre. There are bathrooms, kiosk and a shop.
Biblical Jerusalem being uncovered as we watch! A wonderful site to visit in Jerusalem. The foundations of the original Fortress of Zion (Metzudat Tziyonand all..If you can join a tour (offered in Hebrew and English and perhaps more), that is recommended. (The movie option, on the other hand, adds 15 shekels pp, and is not a big loss if you miss it.)For Hezekiahs Tunnel: Bring footwear for walking in water and a good flashlight, since it is an adventure you wont want to miss. But for those who dont want to, there is a dry tunnel too.Older people need to watch footing at some points.. That could be improved. Also, the actual shaft King David is said to have climbed up (the Tsinor, aka Warrens Shaftis not really labeled as such when you actually come to it.. A missed opportunity to impart some of the drama to those who havent been paying attention. Also, close to the beginning of the trail, be on the lookout for Kever Bat Paroh, the First-Temple period "Tomb of Pharaohs Daughter", just across the valley.. No sign indicating it.(Despite rumors: There are still Arab homes in and around the park area, and the part of Siloam Pool at the end of Hezekiahs Tunnel is still run by the Islamic Waqf with an antiquities shop and music school.. The place has not been ethnically cleansed as some say.)Last note: general entry is free for Israel park pass (Matmonholders! The site is completely within the Parks Authority repertoire, despite the private donations, etc. In short, some of the rumors surrounding the place are unfair. Just visit with an open mind and enjoy
If you want to see Bible stories comes to live - where did King David lived, how he conquered the city, how did the city which is on a mountain, got water from the streams below - this is the place.A lot of stairs to go down (full guided tour took about 3 hours), but you can take a ride back to the begging (cost 5 shekels per person)
This may be an “ancient“ city but it for sure has a lot of vibe. The sounds and smells of modern cars and throngs of people from diverse backgrounds squeezing through the narrow cobblestone streets with its smalls shops makes visiting an adventure.
Its worth it to pay for the full admission ticket to explore the entire place. From the top ledges you can look straight down into the various archeological digs that are currently happening. Theres no shortage of places to explore here, but you really should be wearing good shoes. Some of the climbing inside the tower can be treacherous, but overall its just a lot of uphill regular walking. Theres a short film at the entrance which is excruciatingly outdated, so skip that and go straight to the grounds.
This place is incredible, a true timw machine that will take you back in time and leave you with a better understanding of the earlier times of this historical place. The museum offers different tours that all worthed. Opening hours, from 8 am to 5 pm (winterand 8 am to 7 pm(summer). I took the water system tour wich I highly recomend.
I loved this place. It is outside of the old city walls. It is really well layed out, you can clearly see where they are still working and what they have cleared. There is look out with a fantastic view down the valley. From where they say David house was you can see the houses below down the hill but noone bathing on any roofs. There is also a gift shop there but very expensive.
Seeing the different historical steps, cities built ontop of cities, and the parts of the Bible where David conquered the city...gives context to everything youve read, but havent seen.Definitely take time to go through the Tunnels (Hezekiah & Davidsbut be aware that Davids tunnels are about waist high water & no easy feat. But theyre incredible!
Great site, very interesting and part of this citys history. You do need to walk, some routes are quite narrow. Theres an option for wet route also. Worth the time!
The City of David National Park is a place with a very interesting story which is beautifully told by the art of archaeological architecture. They dug the place out and rebuilt it into a very interesting visitor’s center. Take a guided tour and walk through the ages in the ancient city above the ground and the original tunnels that runs underneath it. It’s the closest thing in Jerusalem for feeling like Indiana Jones.
No words can describe to be at the same spot as King David sat so long ago! My mind cant fathom that it was all here! Great guide, Olga, who showed us everything and explained so passionately! Amazing how much they have found to prove so much history!
Great place to visit. So much history, tunnels under the city that lead to the temple. A note of warning, this location requires a bunch of walking often up and down steep stairs so make sure you wear good shoes. A tour of this location is the best bang for your buck in the city.
It was the best tour with the greatest guide (thanks Yaacov! The information was amazing, most places were shaded, but bring a hat and the water was freezing, but perfect for a hot summer day! It looks like they have really been working on making it a beautiful place to learn out the History of King David and the Jewish People! Thanks so much! Dont forget to have cash to take the bus back at the end of the tour!
Such a neat area to see after thousands of years since David lived there. The excavations are incredible. We also went through Hezekiahs tunnel (water at ankles or higherwith water shoes and flashlights. Its incredible to see these structures and tunnels today knowing that all was constructed by hand.
If you with kids, or love unusual tours, visit the Hezekiah tunnel in the city of David. You go deep under ground through the more than 2700 year old watertunnel, which king Hezekiah built to bring water in the city for protection. In the beginning the water is 70 cm deep but only for very short time. After that ca. 30 cm deep. You need water shoes and flashlights, short pans or skirt. You will get wet and need a change. Stop in the middle, close your flashlights, and feel for a moment the absolute darkness and listen to the noise of the water. It takes around 30 min to get through the tunnel. And all the people I was guiding had lots of fun! Kids who were tiered will get exited in an instant. Be aware that it is not for claustrophobic and very tall people with backproblems. Sometimes you need to bend down for a while and it is narrow. At the end you reach the Siloam pool where in Christian tradition Jesus headed the blind. From there you can take a shuttle for 5 Shekels to the entrance of the city of David or you walk up on roads build 2000 years ago and in an ancient sewage system. It was the last hiding place of the Jewish people from the Roman soldiers, when they destroyed the second temple in 70 BCE untill they were also there discovered. You can get out at Gilati, once an parkingplace but now an amazing archeological site, were they also found a big treasure and much more. Or you continue underground untill you come out at the western side of the wall of the Templemount. There is a other archiological site. The so called Wallstreet of ancient times, were pilgrims bought there sacrifices, changed money..look for the ancient ritual bath, the stone of the place of trumpet which the Romans throw down, so the big rocks who still are witnesses of the destruction of the temple, look for the Umayad palace and its toilet they used, the ancient stairs who led to the temple. And before you do this all go first to the lookout at entrance of the city of David and see the 3D movie to get an idea how hard it was to attack the city of David in ancient times. The city of David has a good website about options and entrance price and opening times. This is the real Beginn of Jerusalem. In Summer to walk there could be hot. So bring water and sun protection. There are all over description in English and Hebrew about the archeological places.Look at the photos. Sorry for my English. It is not perfect. I usually write and guide in German, but you get the idea! It is fun! Especially the water!
