Open 24 hours on weekends, this deco diner & bar serves American comfort food & all-day breakfast.
This establishment offers pretty good food at reasonable prices. The staff have always been friendly to me and has always been willing to answer any of my questions. You should definitely hit this place up for a quick bite with a friend.
My GF and my favorite spot for late night dinners and a good time. Staff was friendly. Waitress made sure we were taken care of and food prepared and delivered within a reasonable amount of time. Overall great atmosphere
My elderly friends and I go here for breakfast every month. They are all so accommodating to our “old lady” speed and space needed and super friendly. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I would give ten stars if I could.
Our family has visited for brunch, lunch and dinner over 3 years, and have always had a good, reasonably priced meal. Service is friendly and attentive. Their dinner specials are a great deal, including soup/salad, entree, dessert and sides. Lots of comfort food choices and you can have breakfast all day long. Easy to get to, since its next to the Lombard Broad Street subway station.
Nice food at a fair city diner price. We got the cheesesteak fries as an appetizer and it was amazing albeit a salt and fat bomb. Wife got the gyro which honestly was quite underwhelming. I got the brunch burger which was quite good
A male officer came in, he was obviously a regular bc the workers in there knew him buy name. For some odd reason, the whole time he kept staring at me. He sat adjacent to my friend & I, who was sitting across from me, the officer was in the next booth behind him. A female officer came in probably no later than 10 minutes and sat with him. The vibe throughout the diner felt off. There were other customers but very few and even some started to leave. Eventually we got our food, ate and got out of there. In no way were we causing trouble. I just didnt like his stare, Im sorry. Overall, it is a great restaurant and our waiter was super nice. Id go back anytime!
It was ok, regular diner food for a premium diner price so I took off a star. Three people getting water as drinks and no appetizer shouldnt have to spend 60$ at a diner imo. However the fries were good, the people, were kinds, the atmosphere was nice, and it is in center City after all so I kinda get it. Not bad and Ill probably go again. If youre expecting anything other than a regular quality diner youll be quickly mistaken.
Really bad food, taste like sysco imitation. Service was not only bad, but strange. On 2 separate occasions the waitress explained to me that she made the kitchen mad. She mustve done something because my food was terrible. Also, Im pretty sure she was high.Skip this place, do yourself a favor. Would never go back.
Get your mimosa at 7am, Monday through Sunday... Need I say more? Despite what some of the other negative reviews say, the staff was friendly and attentive. The food is exactly what you would expect for a diner, and for the price. If you are an early bird, and maybe work the night shift and would like a drink after work, this is the place for you. Bar opens at 7am!!
The big windows made it good for people watching, and at about noon-2 the coloured glass fixtures on the side of the building gave the passing crowds of people an interesting hue.Good diner overall, had plenty of dishes to choose from and they had specialty cocktails like the Zombie in which I partook. I had the Chicken Pesto Panini, and the cheese was melted just right. Some juicy tomatoes in the center gave it a nice splash that brought out some oil from the pesto with it, giving my fries a delicious coating.
Saddest excuse for a diner service was slow and horrible the waitress had to be called by another person to come out and take the order the food came out about 25 30 minutes later saddest excuse for a spanish omelette suppose to be fresh tomatoes and vegetables was canned tomato sauce and canned mushrooms the salmon teriyaki plate was just as sad canned corn that look liked it was sitting all day. Took a bite of the omelette and left it ate some of the salmon and that was it paid the bill and will never return.
Jazz fest was on 15th n south, we came here and had dinner. The atmosphere was really nice , we was able to get a nice view of outside! Our server Briana was amazing !! Very attentive and has a great sense of humor ! Food and drinks were good! We picked the mini crab cakes and cheesesteak rolls. Excellent service! Def would recommend
The diner was mediocre in style and food choices. Service was also slow and there were not many customers in the diner to hinder quicker service. It perhaps deserves a second chance but not sure if I will go again. I ordered a salad that was very leafy and dry with items not cut to bite-size, yet, I have to say, the sandwiches did look good. Our waitress was cute and pleasant which was a plus for the diner.
Service was great and the food was good
Trendy but simple atmosphere with good food and friendly staff.
The food was good but our wait time was long and they were not busyIt also seems like they treat their waitresses poorly. The host was so negative.Pretty set up though.
If you love diner food and you want an adult beverage, this is the place! Good food, good portions, great staff. My server, Katie was super nice and attentive. Thanks for a great meal experience from this Philly visitor!
Our server for night at counter, Kaitlyn maybe, literally said she hated her job before taking our Togo order. Made us seem like an inconvenience to her. Normally we love this place. She needs to go! We only come to Philly 4 times a year. Her attitude sucked! Food was okay but I understand it was late at night. Rest of staff was awesome!
You go in to City Diner expecting a great late-night diner experience, for both food and service. The food, at best, is mediocre. And the servers just do not seem to be happy working at City Diner.
This place is a relative newcomer to the diner scene, but its a worthy addition. Situated on the corner of Broad and South, the location is ideal for folks looking for a bite to eat after church, the theater (walking distance from the Kimmel Center, the Wilma, the Merriam Theater and the Suzanne Roberts Theater); or after a day or night of studying (just below the University of the Arts campusor partying (South Street, of course). The place is clean, modern and comfy; the wait staff is friendly and the food is good and affordable.
Amazing black n white shake. Watched the female server use her bare hands to reach into cherry jar for the cherries she placed onto shake. We did not eat the cherries. I would’ve given 5 Stars if it weren’t for this bad food handling.
Great Food. Great Staff. Good Location. This diner is just steps away from one of the Philadelphia subway lines and just 20-30min walk away from the heart of the city (10min drive). The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. I appreciated the experience and if I was in the area again, I would for sure eat here again.
Good classic diner in Philly. Nice breakfast spot.
Friendly service, well appointed dinning room. Reasonably priced delicious food. The French onion soup is amazing!
City Diner and cocktail Bar was inexpensive for its location. My friends and I agreed that the food was flavorful. My server however made an offensive comment. About being able to afford a certain meal. Nonetheless, we ate l, drank, and had fun.
1st time customer on a Tuesday night and not crowded. My mother and I were seated promptly and the waitress came over and introduced herself with water and silverware. After that it was downhill. We ordered at 7:22p and our food came out at 8:09p. My panini was horrible and my mothers food had cold mixed veggies. The waitress only came over a total of three times...introduction, to bring the food and to bring the check. The only good thing is the manager took the bad sandwich off the check. Not interested in revisiting this diner.
Perfect place for an out of towner to rest from walking and seeing the sights. You can have everything from a bowl of soup to a full meal with full bar.By the way, the lovely server noted that Wednesday meant seniors got 10 percent off!! How nice of her.
Ive been here a couple of times for breakfast, but never for drinks yet.Good diner spot in the city, seems a bit too commercialized from the outside and design, but the food is great. If you want a classic diner meal with a side of homefries this is the spot!Really quick service, and super friendly staff. Will definitely continue to eat here. Great for a quick bite!
Good food nice service. Clean and neat. Clean and well kept bathrooms. Lisa is the best server, loved her.Nice mix of food, better quality than majority of the diners that Ive been in. They also serve alcohol for those that would like cocktail or beer.
Pricey for what is not-particularly-good diner food. Service was just so-so.
Amazing Spanish omelette, highly recommended that place!Latte was also good.
Absolutely the best diner around South Street. The hour are AMAZING, and perfect for after a night out. The food is SO good, a little pricey but def worth it.
Sat at the counter this evening and ordered a bunch of items because I was starving and haven’t grubbed on diner food in a while. I am lucky to be between two diners both about 7 blocks away. I’ve been to the one a few times and figured it’s time to try City Diner. A surprisingly warm greeting welcomed me as I walked in and asked if I’d like a table but I said I’d prefer the counter and the hostess began to walk me over and let me know my server would be right with me. A server greeted me and presented a menu plus a separate specials menu that included cocktails and let me know that my server would be right with me (nice teamwork). A minute later the server who took care of me from then on out was right over and greeted me and asked if I had any questions and let me know about their specials. I ordered way too much and she even cautioned me that the portions are a decent size, I should’ve listened. She at least staggered the food and it was all extremely hot when it came out and it was close to being on par with some of my favorite New Jersey diners (I actually think the City Diner is owner by the same people who own Lucien’s in Berlin but could be wrong). My only complaint would be the prices, almost $10 for mozzarella sticks that are nothing but frozen Sysco battered sticks served on a piece of lettuce, at least splurge for fresh breaded mozzarella. I get that restaurants have overhead especially in a big city with the amount they pay for rent and I have no issue paying $17 for my chicken parm instead of $12-13 in the burbs, plus it’s a nice healthy portion but $7 milkshakes and $10 frozen mozzarella sticks....The great service and big portions scored it 4 star but really the service especially was extremely surprising.
Service was great, very kind people. Food was OK, eggs not cooked as much as I like and bacon was kinda dry and crunchy I prefer chewy. Atmosphere was fairly calm.
Eggs Benedict with lox and spinach & feta cheese omelette were good.
A pleasant surprise. Stopped in on a whim after a concert and fund the diner to be comforting and cozy. I had the most amazing egg sandwich and some of the best coffee in town. Service was fantastic, my waitress never let my coffee cup get empty, a major plus for a diner in my book.
Its 3pm the day before Valentines Day, youre approaching Broad and South, and youre hungry for lunch but arent quite craving so-called "lunch food." What do you do? Go to a diner, of course, and not just ANY diner--City Diner! I had passed by this place multiple times in my travels and from the outside looking in, it looked a tad more upscale than the average diner. However, upon looking over the menu posted in the window, I noticed that they had a rather expansive menu and reasonably priced food. For me, Valentines Day is about self-love (in addition to love on the whole!so I decided to treat myself. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the friendly hostess who was quick to accommodate my request to sit somewhere with an outlet where I could charge my phone. Seeing as it was midday, the diner was fairly empty but I would think traffic picks up for dinner and evening drinks as there is a bar inside. I ordered the egg-dipped French toast and added on strawberries and cream--hit the spot! I didnt have to wait long for it either! Plus, they had a 90s/early 00s alternative Pandora playing so I struck up a conversation with the bartender about how much better music was back then (spoiler alert: it was.).Mom and Dad, I think Ive found our new Sunday brunch spot! I will definitely be back!
We love this diner! We usually order the pasta special. Not only does it taste great, but the price is awesome! Our favorite server is Samantha. She is sweet and extremely competent. Terrific experience!
The City Diner near South Street in Philadelphia was one of the best diners that I have ever been to in a long time! Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and professional. The establishment was clean and had great lighting, nice views of Broad Street, and the restrooms were satisfactory. My food was delicious and plentiful. The menu is extensive and everything was fresh and precise. I really look forward to dining here again! Highly recommended!
Are you looking for comfort food? Well look no further! They have a dish for every appetite. The husband and I stopped by for a late dinner after a movie on Monday night and were so glad we did. We wanted breakfast food and ordered omelettes. They were amazing! Came with fried sliced potatoes (kind of like hash browns and fries had a babyand toast. The service was great! Dawn took really good care of us. They have a full service espresso machine so they can crank out a delicious latte if youre in the mood for one. Atmosphere was lovely too!
service wasnt great & the food was disgusting. how can you mess up fettuccini Alfredo? oh let me count the ways, the pasta was not al dente, the sauce was bland as hell & the vegetables too hard....for an extra $11 I added shrimp which they left the tails on (not the type of dish Id leave tails on since nobody wants to go fishing through the sauce to pull them off not to mention the level of difficulty pulling tails off shrimp covered in Alfredo sauce& chicken which was so thin I shoulda only been charged half price.... even the garlic bread tasted nasty, bland but burnt at the same damn time....I had to put so much salt & pepper on the food it sent my blood pressure thru the roof ..... wont be returning or recommending
Very nice environment. Theyre only "24 hours" on weekends and close at 2 A.M. weekdays. Theyve only been open for about 10 months but its a good spot for a "comfort meal" or someplace to go and dine with friends. Its the classic Diner menu with an upscale approach conducive to the Avenue of the Arts. Service was friendly, attentive and professional.
Ate here on a Wed. early evening with the family. Not crowded and service was good. Its called a diner and thats what it is. If thats what youre expecting, youll be happy. Kids ordered the hot dog and mac n cheese from the kids menu. They liked it. Wife ordered a tuna melt and she liked it. I ordered a gyro and I liked it. Prices were decent. I would recommend this place to family and friends.
This has quickly become one of my favorite food stops in the city since opening. "Where should we go for dinner?" is no longer a half hour conversation. The staff is super friendly and the owner / manager has been there nearly every time Ive visited to make sure everyone is happy. The prices could be lower by a dollar or two but youll be very satisfied with your meal.
Happy hour is the best. The food was good. Only reason why i have it 4 stars and not 5 is because there were a million flys around my table
The general tso wings are amazeballs!! All the food here seems to be really fresh. I havent had any drinks or cocktails. I didnt like the potatoes they tasted freeze-dried but the pasta was really delicious and The Flounder was fresh. Its like the perfect mix of trendy bar in Diner now the service on the other hand leave something to be desired. Ive been here on two occasions and both times my waiter/ waitress seem to be high or under the influence. While everyone was really friendly the service is a little slow and lacking.
Walked in, counted about 8 workers. I was seated by a very courteous gentlemen only to sit for close to 10 mins before I myself got up and informed the staff that I had not been attended to. She promptly apologized only to go to the back and still return alone. I got fed up and left. Id understand if it was busy, but the place was almost empty. 10/10 would not return. Place was clean as a whistle though.
Went for breakfast their eggs and omelets are so good! Service was fast and great!.
My daughter and I visited your restaurant tonight for the first time before seeing a show at the Academy. The restaurant was very clean and lovely. Out waitress ( I believe her name was Samanthawas truly friendly and very accommodating. The menu had a good selection to meet everyones needs. The food was served quickly, hot, and it was delicious. Truly above any diner food. We will visit again!! Thank you
Good, fast service, plenty of seating and reasonably priced. The food is ok.
