Palace designed by Mexican baroque architect Francisco Guerrero y Torres & completed in the 1780s.
Citibanamex Culture Palace, Palacio de Iturbide in Los Reyes La Paz
Description
Nice and free place to see some art in the Centro
Only one ATM with cash plus a long line
Great museum and its free
The Palacio de Iturbide in and of itself is a work of art. The current exhibit (Sept 2022is Spanish colonial art and its definitely something I vibe with. Regardless of the exhibit, this palace is worth the visit for its architecture.
MoreBeautiful art in a gorgeous historical building. It has a fascinating history - this building was previously called The Palace of Iturbide (1779 to 1785and built as a replica of a royal palace in Palermo, Italy. Upon independence from Spain, the First Mexican Emperor was crowned here and took up residence. THEN for a couple of centuries it had a number of purposes, including housing the School of Mining (!).Now, the restored building houses a collection of art and has been renamed the Palacio de Cultura Banamex. It’s free entry and open for all of us to enjoy! How lovely.
MoreAmazing reinassance style paintings at the actual exhibition. . A most see!
Its an incredible experience! This Museum offers almost all FREE exhibits. (doesnt matter if you are a foreigner)Exhibits remain for 1 to 3 months. Some exhibits are also free guided, so ask in for a better experience. (but I recommend to give a Tip to guides [Most of them are students]). I dont know if they offer tour guidanses in different languages than Spanish, but you can ask.Tours here could last from 25 minutes up to 2 hours depending on the exhibit, some has few chambers open and others the whole Museum.Pls visit this places, you will learn more from our culture and traditions 🇲🇽.
MoreThe areas available to visitors are limited to the ground floor where the main exhibition is. There is security staff in all areas of the building.
MoreLooks great from the photos but the last day of the exhibition was 1st May 2022 - look at their website. I was unable to get a clear indication when the Palacio will reopen from the guard at the door.
MoreBeautiful building with Yvonne Domenga sculptures that are fantastic!
If youre in the Centro Histórico area (specifically, Madero Avenuethis is a great space to wander around for a bit. I was lucky enough to catch a guided tour of the current exhibition, and it was all around a great way to spend half an hour away from the noise and movement.
MoreFree art museum that shows a lot of awesome things.
The palace itself is worth 1,000 stars. The curation of the art exposed is impeccable, so it doesnt matter what expo is on, I can bet its worth your time. The only sad part is the service in general. All the workers I interacted with except one were rude and not friendly at all. If you can, dont try to talk to anyone and your visit will be more enjoyable.
MoreVery interesting and nice museum. Needs more English information to be displayed.
MoreA worthwhile free and quick stop to make within a lively shopping neighborhood, featuring a single nice exhibition from a current (or recentartist in a restored, classic architectural setting
MoreI hyghly recommend going here. The entrance is free. Even on a Saturday it didnt feel crowded. Currently there is an exposition from Yvonne Domenge that is stunning. She used geometrical 3-dimensial shapes. The rest of the museum is beautiful as well. If you go upstairs the (I guess permanentart tells you the history of Mexican independence. Its nice if you understand a bit of Spanish to be able to follow the explanation (or use another tool).
MoreI saw the Expo of Yvonne Domenge, she had created a lot with the topic of the sphere.
MoreProbably, my favorite place in all Mexico City. The building itself is a big treasure. In addition you will always find modern expositions. A first floor is a must with artisan expositions.
MoreFree entry and its sponsored by a local bank, very cool art pieces. The opening hours can be hit and miss
Morefantastic exhibition of contemporary mexican folk art and an exhibition of annoyingly arragont modern sculpture
MoreLoved the space and the show was impressive and relative to instrumental artist contributing to Mexican art legacy. Great find.
MoreA hidden gem - just the right size and location for a pleasant stopover when visiting el Centro. Constantly updated exhibitions by diverse national artists. Great for locals and tourists alike.
MoreI was only able to see the first floor, but there is more to the exhibit
An amazing show as always.
The Palace of Iturbide is a palatial residence and a free museum. Here you can wander galleries and enjoy rotating exhibits of artwork. The museum features many exhibits by Mexican City artists. Its a great place to visit in Mexico!
MoreOne of those unexpected museums you end up enjoying. And it is free! I was walking around and decided to give it a try. The moment I went they had an exhibition focused on artesanal Mexican culture: sculptures, rags, dresses ... beautiful. The museum, architecturally talking, is fantastic as well. Did I mention it is free? GO! Pics taken with Pixel 4 XL
MoreReally lovely contemporary Mexican folk art collection. Open on Mondays when most cultural institutions are closed.
MoreLoved it, so much variety in the art and craft of Mexico on display!
My favourite museum ever !
Exhibit of modern local art, near Zocalo.Wonderful artwork, specially the trees
Excellent display in an historic building, celebrating 20 years of "Grandes Maestros" of Mexican Folk Art. I originally saw this exhibit years ago in Oaxaca, so it was a pleasure to see the expanded display on 2 floors. All that was missing were the wonderful photographs of the artisans that the book accompanying the exhibit provides.
MoreIts a really beautiful place with a great variety of art to appreciate unfortunately most of the paintings lighting was kind of poorly placed either to much light on some paintings and then to dark in others
MoreIve been to this museum twice this year. My first time was during Q1 where they showcased the American Gauchos. And the 2nd time this Q2, and the showcased different types of art relating to dia de los muertos which was beautiful. The best part about it all is that this museum is absolutely free for everyone. So, if you are in CDMX by chance, and you have some time to spend, go here :)
MoreThis is a good museum with rotating exhibits. The current one on is an exhibition of black and white photography which was excellent. There is a small corner of the second floor that gives the history of the building. The one downside was that there werent any translations, so unless you read Spanish, that part of the exhibit will not make a lot of sense. Also, you cant take large bags into the gallery, but they do have secure storage.
MoreExcellent expo inside Palace Iturbide
An absolutely fantastic exhibition space right in the historic centre - not only is the building a gorgeous relic, the exhibitions are beautifully curated, thoughtfully displayed, accessible 7 days a week... and free!I have been twice, in 2016 & 2019 and both times I was blown away. Really worth a few hours of your time if you’re in Mexico City.
MoreI have been here for many exhibits. Always have enjoyed my time here. Highly recommend if you are in the area, plus its free!
MoreJust the view from the castle over looking Mexico.city is worth to pay a visitPalace add a bonus一
MoreLarge art gallery that was free when we went. It has a lot of photography art which depicts different regions of Mexico and also a small portion of photos depict some other international places. The gallery is inside a nice old building and there are two stories there. They also have an elevator and a bunch of staff that can help you or give you a guided tour.
MoreFirst of all it’s free entry, but I didn’t find a reason to enter there I didn’t find anything impressive so if you are walking by just have a look and don’t waste much of time there
MoreThere was a lot of gorgeous art. People were friendly and helpful tourists. Free admission as well. The topic was Dalis work which was fascinating and very complex trying to understand at the same time
MoreAlthough you arent allowed to stroll through the whole building, it is a free museum and they constantly change their art pieces, there is no wifi nor restrooms, at least no public restrooms, feel free to take pictures but no video (for some reasonand dont use flash.
MoreBeautiful building and exposicions are always amazing
Amazing museum, a most go in Mexico City, different exhibitions during the year.
A gem of a small museum in Mexico City. It has seasonal expositions that are always quite interesting and represent the best from Mexico. The picture is from the Winter of 2017 exposition.
MoreThey currently have a religious exhibition with wonderful pieces. Although its on the small side you can help but admire the abundance of colors.
MoreAmazing work display from National & international artists. Photographic work by Flor Garduño.💙 was amazing and inspiring. Always free. Beautiful historical building
MoreFree museum with rotating exhibits. The museum also offers free wifi .
Very nice Museum. There are several exhibitions throughout the year, and it is free!!!
MoreExcellent architecture. Excellent exhibition spaces. Great art expos. My favorite one was the fashion through Mexicos history.
