Cinema Bar 1950 - Puerto Rican restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Cinema Bar 1950 in San Juan
Description
Privilege
By far my favorite place to eat anytime I visit PR. Highly recommend!!! Must try chicharron de pollo y mojitos
MoreNov 2021 Visit the restaurant after the fire, it was still a pretty cool place to visit! Wish I could of seen/ visit while it was still running but I do hope they get to create anyone Resturant similar or re build for sure. Awesome details and beautiful art work everywhere! Be respectful if you visit
MoreMust have fish tacos
The service by the waitress was terrible. She forgot one of our orders and acted as if she did not care. The only thing we enjoyed were the appetizers!
MoreExcellent vide and super cool staff. Found the drinks to be a good price (great mimosa specialand great quality drinks/selection of beer
MoreVery cute place. Service was pleasant and very helpful in us making our meal choices. We had a family member who does not eat meat so our waiter was great in making suggestions. Drinks were delicious and the environment was calm and nice.
MoreThe interior was awesome, old building with lots of Murals and old movie props, it was really cool. Had a great experience, the food is pricey but good.
MoreWe were the only diners inside around 2:30pm. Food was good, large portions & freshly made.
MoreBit of a tourist trap but a great view of the sunset. Come there for that and a happy hour 2 for 1 mojito. Food not good (had a shrimp salad and pork dish)
MoreI’m usually not one to leave a bad review but we came for a quick bite and drink and it took 40 minutes just for our Calamari. It wasn’t busy at the time we were there. The bartender didn’t mention anything about the wait time for our appetizer, he seemed pretty oblivious. The calamari was good when it arrived.
MoreGood food and service. Ate outside, they have 4 tables outside. Gorgeous view.Drinks are good, my Pina Colada was great. If parking across the street is full is very hard to find parking so you probably have to park downhill and walk up to the restaurant. Nice walk after eating. Full bar, a bit small place inside, I havent seen any if the movies yet.
MoreFirst time here came in for a quick bite (literallyI asked what was already done in the kitchen ready to go i was told croquetas and arroz y habichuelas had no wait time so thats exactly what i ordered I patiently waited over 25 minutes and when i asked if it was almost ready I was told no. I patiently waited more and then asked 15 minutes later and the other waitress came outside to tell us that they never even put the order in....
MoreWhen I first got here it was 5 stars then everything started going bad except for the food and drinks. Our server came right up to us which was great! Mojitos are amazing! On Wednesday’s and Thursday’s it’s BOGO free coconut mojitos so we got that. Refreshing and real ingredients. My husband and I ordered steak burgers which were huge and lots of veggies on the burger and it came with fries. We then ordered watermelon mojitos which were amazing! Our server never came to check on us until we were completely done with our meal and waiting for the check as we watched him B.S. with the bartender. What I thought was weird was instead of going to a computer inside he went outside and came back inside with someone else and they both looked at our table and the other person brought us the check instead of our server. We looked at the bill and noticed it was a little higher than we expected, it’s because they added 15% gratuity. I don’t know if they did this because we were tourists or they do it to every table but I feel like it’s because we looked like we kids who weren’t going to tip. Which we actually planned on tipping 20%. We then waited a while for someone to come grab our card so we can pay and leave. No one said thank you, have a great day, etc. The bathroom is outside the restaurant, up the stairs to the left. Kind of a far walk and only 2/4 working toilets. IF we come back, we will only be back for the mojitos.
MoreBy far the best restaurant we went to in Old San Juan. Both the hostess and our waitress were super sweet, gave excellent recommendations and made us feel so welcome and at home. The cocktails are delicious and strong and the food was sooo good!! The only bad thing is that we came on a Sunday and planned to have dinner there the next few nights but they’re closed on Monday and Tuesday and we leave Wednesday. We will definitely be back next time we come to PR though!
MoreTried the kiwi and the passion fruit mojitos. They were so good. Also the stuffed tostones with camarones 😋 Delicious!!!
MoreWe stopped for a quick drink to rest up for walking around old San Juan. Our quick drink was almost 2 hours, service was absolutely terrible. At least the drinks were good.
MoreThis was a great great great place! The food was AMAZING!! VIEW!! AMAZING! STAFF AMAZING! MUST GO BACK!! The dish i had and posted was soooo delicious!!! Omg missing it now!! Go for great food wont be disappointed!!
MoreDon’t waste your time. The wait staff is slow. They have ingredients in the salads that are not written on the menu. My table finished their food before I finally got my plate. Not worth it. Everyone here has been waiting for their food for too long.
MoreFood is good, have visited a few times. Had a coupon that expired, called to check if it had been extended, and was told it was subject to "availability" and if the Manager "approved" it at that time. Why would I go there for a chance at being granted something I paid for. So dumb.
MoreI excepted more of this place due to its privilege location in old San Juan. Service was not good , employees (waitersneed to be more attentive, dynamic and joyful. Food was ok, but not that great for the location and prices. Waiters did not presented recommendations or options to consume. After trying one appetizer we decided not to order main plates due to poor quality of services. Mojito was ok but expected more. No Bathroom on site and have to walk a bit further and bathroom was dirty and old. I hope this place would take note of Poor start ratings and try to improve the service as It got a great location.
MoreBest ceviche ever! I also highly recommend the Yunque Burger, it was so juicy and flavourful. The location is perfect for taking a break from exploring Viejo San Juan /El Morro and I didnt find the prices to be too outrageous for being in a major touristy area.
MoreDidnt like the food. Service was ok, but definitely I expected more from a place located in Old San Juan and in front of El Morro. Excellent location but will not return.
MoreIts a cool little place with lots of memorabilia for those who like vintage photography. There is a theater where comedy sketches and shows take place where you can also order food and drinks. There is also indoor and outdoor seating. The bathrooms are in the attached courtyard. Try the coconut mojito!! It was delicious!
MoreThought I discovered a gem, but was a bit disappointed. The concept and ambiance is unique and fun. You can choose to eat within or bistro style. There are 2 movie theaters within, where you can enjoy watching a movie while you eat. Food was tasty and varied PR menu. Low rating comes from over an hours wait for 2 appetizers and hostess was not very experienced. I wonder what its like on a day when the restaurant is full of customers. All in all, if youve been walking around Old San Juan and looking for a spot to relax by the sea, or want to catch an Indie film, are willing to wait for food while enjoying beers, etc., then check it out.
MoreThe best mojito in Old San Juan. Nice decor and concept. The house cocktails are amazing too. If you sit outside, they have a beautiful view of the fort and ocean.
MoreThis is such a cozy- feel good place! For starters, the food is amazingly good; I recommend the big sampler. I tried the Mojitos, and frankly, they are sooo good I havent tried other drinks. Definitely go to watch a play. I watched Venus en Piel and found it to be amazingly good and well acted. It was really great, to be honest! Go and enjoy!
MoreWow! Iconic restaurant and must for great food while you see the memorabilia from a time not too long ago. The fish tacos are extraordinary!
MoreI liked the style, food was delicious. We had some calamari and burger. The burger was big.
MoreGreat food, great drinks, mango mojito our hint of the day, the movie theater it’s a most for a great evening with great company. The bar looks like clasic Boston Cheers bar, I love it, natural juice for the drinks it’s normal business here. Really want to repeat it for another evening with another foreign movie !!
MoreNice restaurant, the food was ok, the ambiance was great, it is right next to touristy landmarks and historic places which makes for a perfect afternoon plans. Its a nice place to kick off a Puerto Rico vacation.
MoreGreat food at a valuable price. Beautiful place and view. The service is horrible, from the host to all the waiters. They look lost as if they are on another place. They are slow, careless without any kind of compromise with the clients or their job...the perfect recipe to bring a good place to bankruptcy. We have to look for our own seat cause the hostess was busy with the napkins. All the waiters went to all the tables asking who was their waiter. Our order was taken after 50 minutes. When we finish nobody asked if we need something else and the check was never given.Message to the owners please look for more help to the excellent cook you already have and bring to work people that want to give your business a good name.
MoreWe went friday evening to taste the food and it was great. The parking lot closest to this place is opened 24hrs.
MoreDelicious food brought to you while watching movies at a 1950s inspired cinema. Go watch a comedy seated in velvet seats, a small table lamp away from your date. Drink mojitos and eat shrimp taquitos while immersed in movie lovers heaven. Perfect date night in old San Juan.
MoreAfter 23 years away from PR went there the same day we arrived. All was delicious: bolitas de mofongo, chorizos en salsa de papaya, arroz mampostiau.
MoreGood food, excellent service and good music. Love this place
Awesome mojitos!! Be sure and see Eugenia. She from Venezuela and so cute and friendly. A wonderful person. I would go back to this bar just to see her and her mojitos of course. She loves to make them. Amazing!! Sorry, I sws too busy drinking them to take pictures. Ill have my daughter add them later.
MoreStopped in here after a busy morning walking around town and touring the fort. It was honestly the best meal we had all day. We loved everything we got which including multiple appetizers so that we could sample a little of this & that. We LOVED every piece we ordered. The staff was very friendly & next time we come back to San Juan we will for sure eat here again.
MoreThe food was delicious! We had the Kan Kan Chuleta and the Churrasco. Both had really good flavor with a few details to make it unique and delicious. I would suggest it for small children that get antsy but definitely an option for date night. The prices are average for Old San Juan around $20 for dinner plates.
MoreSolid choice if youre near El Morro or wandering by. Food portions are intense! They love garlic, so know that.
MoreWent the other day with my wife as a date night, without the kids, and we had a great time. The local is cozzy but nice . They were featuring a movie from Spain so we had a nice movie and dinner in one. Great price on the food which was delicious and great amount of food for the money. Recommend it
MoreTasty coconut mojito! Staff was very catering, and there wasnt a crumb left on my trifongo with veggies plate!
MoreFor all clients: receipt pending. On March 29, 2018 at 5:49 p.m. I went to eat at the restaurant. The waiter was Pedro. I can not eat fried food, so Pedro offered me an octopus cocktail as an appetizer.I liked it, since I did not find anything else that would please me on the menu, I asked him to give me the same thing again, and an additional vegetable service. That is, I would load two cocktails and additional octopus vegetables. When I went to pay my bill, I charge two plates of octopus salad at 19.95 each plus the vegetables to part.If he had charged me a cocktail and an octopus salad service, it was fine, but I did not try to be smarter.I tried to tell him what he thought about the receipt and the waiter told me that was what he had eaten.Client who reads me, I do not write because I do not want to pay an account, if I do not write because it bothers me that even if I told him what he did to me, he told me that he was right and even looked at me seriously.I was responsible for paying my ticket where other things were ordered and I left his tip.I write so everyone is aware of these waiters who like to charge more than necessary. And they also drink liquor during work hours, then this is allowed and so actitides how are you.
MoreExcellent restaurant with strong emphasis on "tapas". The ambiance and motif is 1950s Puerto Rico, with photos Puerto Rican actors, movie stars and personalities of the era. It has a screening room/movie theater where classic and foreign films are showed. Film enthusiasts can order appetizers and drinks prior to the movie and have them served during the screening. (I suggest the "longa sliders"). Usually, there is no cover charge for the movie. Those preferring a sidewalk cafe experience can sit outside in the late afternoon and enjoy a breathtaking view of El Morro Spanish fortress with the Atlantic as its backdrop.Prices are reasonable and there is an underground garage across the street.
MoreGreat spot for drinks and a show. Need to improve the food menu since the options are limited and most of them are fried. Also waiters service can do better...
MoreWe had some Mojitos and burgers called El Yunque. The whole thing was delicious. Definitely going back.
MoreFood was good. I had Seviche and fried plantains. However serving size was not very filling. A larger side is necessary to make it a complete meal.
MoreOne of my favorite places, the food, the vibes, all the dining experience options, this place is sublime... 5 star cuz it deserves the love for all the details in your experience, alittle pricey kind of $$ to $$$, but its a premium places, employees shows you the whole place... Highlight: it got a independent movies 🎥 Cinema 🎦...
MoreFood was atrocious. Fish was inedible. Mojitos were just ok. Only saving grace was our server was great and the decor is very unique.
MoreWe only have a sampler and a couple of drinks. The place has a great atmosphere and it has outside tables. But the prices are very steep considering the food. The staff was very kind, theres no parking btw
MoreGreat location, but food and service was not great. The main course was brought out before appetizers. The biggest issue was the skirt steak, which clearly was meat that was going off. They replaced it with a New York strip that was really good, but the damage was done.
