some of the best indian food in London! delicious and flavourful butter chicken, and crispy naan. highly recommend!
MoreBrilliant food. We enjoyed most of what we had. Drinks were a slight let down. The biggest let down for us was the waiter’s attitude. I was taking a video of the interior with flash (I hadn’t taken any pictures/videos or used flash prior to this. There were no diners around me as we went during a weekday at a very quiet time. A waiter scolded me for using flash in the video. I wasn’t aware that I wasn’t allowed to use it and I’m fine being told not to, but his tone was very rude and slightly aggressive. Although we enjoyed the food, this kind of ruined the mood for us and I felt quite upset. Especially since he was blatantly telling another waiter why he told me off. We just felt very uncomfortable after that and just wanted to leave. So we ate our starters/grill food and left without ordering mains. The chicken off the grill and scallops were to die for! When it came to paying the bill we politely asked not to pay the service charge (I go to many high end restaurants and ALWAYS pay the service charge unless I’m unhappy with the service). Instead of just taking the service charge off, the waiter (a different one), said he will be back and left our table which was odd. He went to tell the manager about the service charge, which again just made us feel more uncomfortable. I don’t feel obligated to pay a service charge when I’m unhappy with the service. The manager decided to cut one of our dishes from the bill (the dish we didn’t eat much of). We appreciated the gesture, but at the same time we kind of just felt cheap. I would go there again because of the food, but this is one of the only times I’ve genuinely been upset by a waiter.
MoreChutney Marys is one of Londons oldest Indian restaurants it is located in the heart of Mayfair literally opposite St. James place. The restaurant is nicely dressed up especially around this type of year with the autumn colored flowers outside. The service was really good with us being seated straight away and our drinks order being taken.I had no faults with the food as well perfectly balanced tastes - only thing is the naan portion is quite small.A great place for great Indian food in London!
MoreAmazing Indian restaurant! The food is both delicious and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere inside is chic and classy. The staff is also very attentive from the moment you walk in (shoutout to the awesome doorman! We ending up trying the tasting menu and it was absolutely perfect. Each round was better than the last, and it was a surprisingly filling amount of food in the end. This was one of those meals you don’t forget! Can’t wait until my next trip to London as this will surely be my first stop!
MoreExcellently prepared food, tender and juicy with a brilliant balance of flavours. Its expensive for the portion sizes but the service quality make it worthy with an ambience that suits all groups.
MoreProbably the best Indian restaurant in London- the food was full of flavor and yet avoided being too heavy. Service was attentive, friendly, and thoughtful. We enjoyed the lamb kundan kaliya and the daab prawn curry the most, and also the lady green saag which was refreshing alongside the meats. Delicious with freshly baked naan. I love a place that’s comfortable to sit and enjoy the meal, has delicious food, and the treat of good service- this place has it all.
MoreInventive, delicious Indian dishes in a beautiful restaurant in the heart of St. James!
MoreGreat fusion indian food experience. Must try
We were here for a private work event, and the food as well as the service didn’t disappoint.Nitpicking, but the collection of drinks can be better, and the selection of food can be more exotic for the price. Having said that, the preparation of the food was amazing and the service was very good. This place was totally full and it is understandable.Recommended.
MoreThis restaurant is unique with its flavors, all the dishes we had where so good and different from other Indian cuisine.Full of aromatic spices , perfectly done. The Lamb Biryani was delicious and flavorful, the Lamb Curry is excellent. The starters we had ( Grilled Chicken Tikka , Venison Sumbosa is excellent. And ended with dessert (Gulab Jamun, must try , had this dessert many times in many places, this is the best one i had .Also, the people working there are kind & helpful.
MoreProbably the best indian food in the city, though it’s a bit pricey. The staff is amazing and you should also try their cocktails, anything with gin. The paneer and samosa appetizers melt in your mouth in a second. Try it!
MoreFabulous food and very attentive service - a touch pricey but worth it!
Beautiful restaurant, brilliant staff, the food was amazing, gutted I didnt take photos until pudding. The drinks though are superb 👌.
MoreBeautiful restaurant, amazing food. The corn ribs were so good I wanted to lick my plate, but given that it was an upscale restaurant, I restrained myself. All the food was fabulous. What a find!
MoreAuthentic pan-Indian cuisine as opposed to the watered-down, Punjabi-only fare that passes for "Indian" food in London. Well-informed wait staff, good interiors and great service. Tad expensive, even by Central London standards
MoreUnfortunately we had bad experience, they have not allowed us because of dress codes. We as tourists will wear something comfortable as jogger pants for men,, we were surprised that they didn’t allow us. Telling us to go back to the hotel and change !? Our hotel was one hour away!! The didn’t treat us professionally the way they told us to leave the place was cheap.
MoreIm a great fan of Indian dishes and very critical as well just for the fact that I really enjoy it.Chutney Marywas a great experience, a comfortable and elegant atmosphere, and very accommodating staff. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the food which were really high.I would say they serve excellent Ghosht Biryani, the mutton and rice were cooked perfectly, while the rice was not soggy at all. Another dish I tried the tandoori Seabass , which was exceptional I think its a dish that not many knows about it goes very well with rice.Definitely a great place to visit in London for an authentic Indian cuisine with high quality local ingredients.
MoreExcellent food and service. The food is traditional but really well made with an excellent balance of flavours and not too spicy - just as it should be. The Goan Green curry is addictive ! Service led by Ramni was exemplary.
MoreWhat a wonderful taste sensation experience. Lovely ambience, extremely courteous waiters. Subtle presence but still very attentive. The food was glorious right from that first mouthful to the last. I would thoroughly recommend dining here.
MoreFine dining at its best. Scrumptious & fingerlicking meal, served by STAR CHEF,,,,. Every dish you order is thoroughly explained to customer satisfaction.I was blown by the menu which had seasonal changes in menu considered. Atmosphere was amazing, had a great experience visiting with family and friends.
MoreVisited this place with a friend a while back. The food was ok, the presentation was good but the food lacked depth of flavour. It seemed liked the food had a facade of finesse but lacked depth. The service was not good and we kept waiting to get someone’s attention. The food was brought out at different times for three people so we couldn’t start together. The food was not bad but definitely not worth the price. The staff seemed prejudiced and almost ignored us. This was before covid so lack of staff was not an excuse.
MoreSome of the best Indian food you can get in London and by extension the UK. Beautiful restaurant, brilliant, attentive, well meaning service and a fantastic menu that stays true to Indian cooking whilst still being innovative and modern. Great vegetarian options and drinks menu, lovely ambiance. Highly recommend you go!
MoreBrilliant food, eat here frequently & It is always good - especially venison samosas . Even poppadoms are special here. Great location for St James, Mayfair,Picadilly. Great service. Pricey but worth it - good set taster menu
MoreMeat is very nicely cooked and tender in all the dishes. I absolutely loved the goa green curry. The flavours, the spices, the meat, it was all perfect! But the biryani wasnt as good unfortunately and it was missing some flavour. The afgani chicken for appetizer was very tender (though the portion was tiny). I didnt like desserts as much.As for prices, its a very expensive restaurant. The main dish portions are decent, but for appetizers they are very small.
MoreWe celebrated my Birthday there and we enjoyed it a lot.The best butter chicken I had in my whole life. Food was so good and the vibes are relaxing and great
MoreWent there with full excitement and desire to try it out. unfortunately, service was very bad. I sat and looked at the menu and then waited for about 15 minutes and no server came or even offered me a drink, and keep in mind the restaurant was relatively empty (only 3 tables were occupied). I walked out when I noticed that the waiters were ignoring my presence. In all honesty, the managers offered me an apology for what happened but I couldn’t get back to my table as I wasted my time at the beginning.
MoreBeautiful decor, top quality ingredients and cooking. Very tasty food. This is a modern new interpretation of Indian food. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because the service fell down in a couple of key areas. While most of the service staff were top notch, on two occasions a waiter barged in on our conversation and talked over us and tried to make small talk after my wife excused herself, clearly oblivious to what was going on. A little more training, sensitivity and refinement would he in order for some of the younger waiters.
MoreSuper friendly service, love the decorations, delicious food, it’s really deserve more than five stars
MoreBest Indian food we have ever had and a wonderful evening. Vegetable samosas, artichokes, chicken, lamb, and sea bass were all sublime. The atmosphere was lovely as well, and the restaurant was busy but still relatively quiet. Only shortcoming was our waiter, who had zero people skills. He addressed only my husband for most of the evening, explained all of the dishes to my husband in advance of our ordering, and asked my husband how everything tasted. Little eye contact with anyone else at the table. No smile or engagement, except when speaking to my husband.
MoreIt is a good but over rated place. Mainly used by tourist and local Europeans. The origin of the restaurant is very interesting for it was set up as replica of the famous Indian place chosen by the British when in India. Food is of variety but is not good value for money. I have tasted and tried many that would superceed Chutney Mary.Yet for an Indian experience it is good to visit. Staff is very helpful and dressed immaculately.
MoreTook the In laws for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to locate this hidden gym in Mayfair, who accommodated us last minute due to another restaurant not having wheelchair access. The decor was warm and inviting and the staff welcomed us with a smile.Service was swift and the recommendations were perfect. The crab cakes, goat buriani and fried potatoes were the stand out favourites for me but everything we tried was exceptional. They even gave my niece a mango lassy to cool her tongue due to a bit of spice in her butter chicken.Definitely better than benares in my opinion
MoreExcellent interiors, every detail has been managed carefully giving a very nice ambiance to the restaurant.Service is good a bit over priced but the taste sure is amongst the few best restaurants in London.Nice atmosphere welcoming staff and had a nice experience over a nice meal with family
MorePhenomenal dining experience. We were gobsmacked by this food. We had the chicken tikka and veg samosas which were both wonderful and then the lamb curry and butter chicken - the pilau rice was notable too, we loved the addition of peas and onions. 5* service, definitely dress up for coming here we did feel slightly underdressed.
MoreThe best part of my visit—it hasn’t changed! my first visit to London in 2 years and revisiting the restaurant felt like I had never left. The tokri chaat is still the same delectable mix of veggies and springlings of ‘sev’ long thin strands of gram flour deep fried and pomegranate seeds. The afghan chicken tikka beats the everyday chicken malai tikka you may be used to.The lamb kebab—cooked tender so that it melts in your mouth was a welcome addition to the appetizers. The fish curry felt simple and flavorful while the piece de resistance remained the goat biryani—cooked with the right amount of masala and the tenderness of the goat enough to leave the rice mixture in your mouth a medley of flavors, spices, meat juices and basmati silkiness…A solid 4.2 stars!
MoreMost authentic daal Makhani, Rogan ghost, butter chicken curry.. wonderful atmosphere and spacious hall to enjoy food with larger group..
MoreExcellent restaurant, service, ambience and food. George was our waiter and he was very pleasant and helpful. It’s our absolute favourite restaurant in London, and hands-down best Indian food I’ve ever tried. The lamb biryani and butter chicken were heavenly, and the venison samosas were out of this world. Always would come to this place when in London and definitely recommend 💯
MoreWithout question, Chutney Mary create the best Indian cuisine in the UK. Great location with friendly staff. The meal was delicious and well presented. About £170 for a meal for two. Great atmosphere. 5 out of 5!
MoreWe love visiting Chutney Mary.. if you are a paneer lover like myself, you have to try their paneer dishes. The food is so well made and presented. A must visit if place for a fine dining Indian restaurant.
MoreOverall Great experience, food was delicious, one of the top Indian restaurant in London, not easy to get in,
MoreVery tasty food but it’s geared toward the rich or the company card holder. There are other High end Indian restaurants that are geared toward more of a dinner experience with slightly better costs.
MoreBeautiful decor, lovely food beautifully presented and great service! Poppodom tray was a pretty, tasty way to start. Only thing that didnt impress were the non alcoholic beverages, hence 4 stars.
MoreWe have been here for a family dinner. Service was great. And from every single dishes, you can see, feel and taste how much thoughts chefs have put into each dish. Cozy place. I highly recommend it.Butter chicken, vegetable biryani and vegetables Sambosa is a must.
MoreLovely restuarant. Food good a tad pricey. But you know that when you go there. Staff attentive. Decor beautiful
MoreChutney Mary is phenomenal! We had the butter chicken main dish with butter naan and chili cheese naan. For the appetizer, we did the Jaipur lamb and afghani chicken tikka. The lamb and chicken were so tender, with excellent taste profile. Cooked perfectly. The butter chicken was very high quality - it was great, but we could use a bit more flavor. The chili cheese naan was much preferred to the regular butter naan. To finish, we had gold gulab jamun with vanilla ice cream, and it was absolutely perfect (coming from gulab jamun enthusiasts lol). The service and decor are high end and 5 star. Chicken and some lamb dishes are halal, as specifically marked on the menu.
MoreVery well presented, but needs some attention to details and replacing old and worn items. The staff are very friendly from the moment you walk in. The menue has good variety for vegetarian and none vegetarian food. Some items on the menue is Halal ( look for the H letter). Food was great but some dishes were extra spicy. Over all great experiences. With a high price tag the place was packed on a Wednesday.
MoreThe restaurant has a lovely ambience. Although the dress code is strictly smart casual, I am not sure how enforced it is as I saw a man in shorts and slippers dining two tables away. The fine dining Indian food cooked here is prepped well and tastes fine. If you are looking for a good food with a refined dining experience, it will not disappoint. As far as looking for Indian cuisine pushed to its highest levels of sublime taste and tantalising the senses, it never reaches those heights so that is why it is just okay for me. Lets just say it is fine dining at its average.
MoreFantastic Indian food and my favourite Indian restaurant. Beautifully decorated rooms with good bar and the excellent dishes include the chicken thighs, Golden Fried Prawns, Butter Chicken Curry, Hyderabadi Lamb Shank and kebab platter.Good set lunch menu and quieter than in the evening so good for a business lunch. It is pricey but the quality and presentation is outstanding.
MoreThe bar and lounge area is really good and creates a welcoming atmosphere. I loved the snacks tray which one can enjoy with drinks. The food is authentic and tasty great. It is perhaps the best Indian food I have had outside of India. Everything is up to speck and the staff is wonderful. The only reason I have not given a 5 star is that in the basement room where we had the private dinner, there was a bit of a leak in the roof and it was dripping, however they sorted it out after a while, which was a bit dampening experience. Otherwise the decor and everything else was just amazing.
MoreI am an European, open to explore different cultures. I tried Indian food in few places but this is the best Ive ever had so far. Delicious food, very well presented plates and excellent customers service.Great ambiance and very cosy place.I would also mention that the setting in the ladies wash room its really nice too.will definitely be back ❤YES! Its a 10 out of 10 👏🏼
MoreLikely the most posh Indian restaurant youll ever set foot in. Very nicely done interior from bar to bathroom, and dining area. Lots of spaces for groups that offer a bit of privacy. Food was very tasty though portions can be a bit on the smaller side. We did find the staff to be a bit unresponsive as the restaurant became busier. Recommended.
